서해상에 발생하는 Cloud Streets에 동반된 2003년 1월 4일 강설의 레이더관측사례 분석 (Characteristics of Snowfall Event with Radar Analyses over Honam District and Gwangju Occurred by Cloud Streets over Yellow Sea for 04 Jan. 2003)

  • The formation and development conditions of the cloud streets over the yellow sea by the Cold Surge of Siberian Anticyclone Expansion which produce the heavy snowfall events over the southwestern coast, Honam District of the Korean peninsula, has been investigated through analyses of the three dimensional snow cloud structures by using the CAPPI, RHI, VAD and VVP data of X-band Radar at Muan Weather Observatory and S-band Radar at Jindo Weather Station. The data to be used are obtained from January 04, 2003, when heavy snow storm hits on Gwangju and Honam District. The PPI Radar images show that the cloud bands distribute in perpendicular to the expansion direction of the high pressure and that the radius of cloud cells is about 5~8 km with 20~30 dBz and distance between each cell is about 10 km. And but the vertical Radar images show that the cloud street is a small scale convective type cloud within height of about 3 km where a stable layer exists. From the VVP images, the time period of the high pressure expansion, the moving direction and development stages of the system are delineated. Finally, the vertical distribution of wind direction is fairly constants, while the wind speed sheer increases with altitude to 3 km.

하구역 퇴적물의 대자율 변화와 기후변화의 연관성 (The Relationship between Climate Change and Magnetic Susceptibility of Estuarine Sediments)

  • 이 연구에서는 하구역내 간석지 퇴적물의 주상시료로부터 얻어진 대자율의 변화가 지니는 의미를 기후변화와의 연관성을 통해 설명하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 간석지 퇴적물을 대상으로 OSL연대와 대자율 자료를 구축하였고, 다양한 기후변화자료들과 비교하였다. 홀로세 중기 이후 하구역 간석지 퇴적물의 대자율은 과거 강수량의 변화와 하천 유량의 변화를 지시하는 것으로 판단된다. 대자율이 높게 나타나는 시기는 시베리아기단이 약화되고 아시안 여름몬순이 강화되는 시기로, 강수량과 하천유량이 증가하여 하구역으로 하천퇴적물의 유입이 늘어난 것으로 판단된다. 한편 홀로세 전기에서 중기의 대자율 자료는 기후변화 자료와 큰 연관성을 보이지 않는데, 이는 해수면 상승에 따른 해안 퇴적물의 대량 유입과 이후 홀로세 중기동안 이루어졌을 것으로 판단되는 토양화 습지화작용에 의해 대자율이 많은 영향을 받았기 때문이라고 판단된다. 이 연구는 비교적 손쉽게 측정할 수 있는 대자율의 장점과 광범위하게 분포하는 서해안 하구역 간석지의 장점을 연결시켜 서해안의 고환경 복원을 명료하게 하는데 도움이 될 것이다.

유라시아 이니셔티브와 환동해권 전략 (Eurasia Initiative and East Sea Rim Maritime Community)

  • In September 2013, President Park Geun-hye announced her controversial "Look North" policy, of which the most salient aspect is the "Eurasia Initiative". This comprises various proposals designed to overcome existing constraints by developing new markets and creating new economic partners in continental areas from which South Korea has been alienated since the end of World War II, and this dovetails nicely with China's One Belt, One Road Initiative. The concepts of the "Silk Road Rail Express (SRX)" and the "East Sea Rim Maritime Community (ESRMC)" have also been discussed. SRX is at present a purely symbolic railroad project intended to encourage individual, cultural, trade and diplomatic exchanges. ESRMC is a model for establishing an ad hoc community to promote regional economic cooperation around the East Sea. President Park's Eurasia Initiative will provide South Korean investment for the Northeast to complement Russian plans, like the "Northern Energy Road" being built by Gazprom, and Chinese plans, like the Chang-Ji-Tu Development Plan for the North Korean port of Rajin. China's trade, as well as its energy and food supplies, pass through the Strait of Malacca and the Indian Ocean, and are thus vulnerable to interdiction by India or the US. China is therefore trying to reduce its exposure geopolitical risk by establishing a network of corridors between the Belt and the Road to provide alternative paths. The "China-Pakistan Economic Corridor" and the "China-Myanmar Economic Corridor" provide such connections, and South Korea hopes that SRX and ESRMC can become part of a "China-South Korea Economic Corridor". This concept could do much to revitalize the underdeveloped northern provinces of China and Russia's Far East, not to mention North Korea. By linking up the Trans-Siberian Railway, the Trans-China Railway, the Trans-Mongolian Railway and the Trans-Korean Railway all these Asian countries will be connected to one another, and ultimately to Europe. An interim connection between China and South Korea using a rail-ferry has also been proposed.

Comparison of Helminth Infection among the Native Populations of the Arctic and Subarctic Areas in Western Siberia Throughout History: Parasitological Researches on Contemporary and the Archaeological Resources

  • The aim of this parasitological study is examining contemporary (the late 20th century) specimens of the arctic or subarctic areas in Western Siberia and comparing them with the information acquired from archaeological samples from the same area. In the contemporary specimens, we observed the parasite eggs of 3 different species: Opisthochis felineus, Ascaris lumbricoides, and Enterobius vermicularis. Meanwhile, in archaeoparasitological results of Vesakoyakha, Kikki-Akki, and Nyamboyto I burial grounds, the eggs of Diphyllobothrium and Taenia spp. were found while no nematode (soil-transmitted) eggs were observed in the same samples. In this study, we concluded helminth infection pattern among the arctic and subarctic peoples of Western Siberia throughout history as follows: the raw fish-eating tradition did not undergo radical change in the area at least since the 18th century; and A. lumbricoides or E. vermicularis did not infect the inhabitants of this area before 20th century. With respect to the Western Siberia, we caught glimpse of the parasite infection pattern prevalent therein via investigations on contemporary and archaeoparasitological specimens.

러시아의 정치 엘리트 충원 방식과 연방제 구조의 성격 (A Study on the Supplement of Political Elite and the Characteristics of Federalism Structure in Russia : focusing on the Comparison with B.Yeltsin and V.Putin)

  • 연방제는 중앙과 지방 사이에 권한이 적절히 분배되는 주권공유 원칙이 적용되는 정치 체제를 말한다. 연방제는 국가의 통일성을 유지하면서도, 지역간 차이를 고려하여 균등한 발전을 기하고, 인종 또는 지역간 차별성과 문화적 다양성을 조화시키려는 목적을 갖고 있다. 연방제 목적은 연방 구성 주체가 자신의 정치 엘리트를 충원하는 방식이 자율성을 지니고, 선택된 정치 엘리트들이 중앙으로부터 독립된 정책을 수행할 수 있을 때 보다 자유롭게 실현된다. 옐친에서 푸틴에 이르는 기간 동안 중앙 및 지방의 정치 엘리트 충원 방식이 중앙 정부의 정치적 목적에 따라 수정되면서, 러시아 연방제의 성격이 변화되었다. 임명되어진 정치 엘리트들이 지역의 이익에 기초된 정책 수행을 강행할 수 없게 되었다. 이러한 현상은 연방제의 고유한 의미를 퇴색시킬 수밖에 없다. 중앙 정부에 의해 임명된 지방의 정치 엘리트들이 지방의 이익이 아니라, 중앙 정부의 이익에 기초된 지방자치로 무게 중심을 이동시키기 때문이다. 본 논고는 러시아의 대통령 및 양원의 국회의원, 주지사 및 지방의회 의원들이 어떻게 충원되고 있으며, 이러한 충원 방식이 러시아 연방제의 성격을 어떻게 변화시키고 있는가의 문제를 다룬다.

SARAL/Altika 해표면 고도 위성에 의한 동해 북부 연안 해류 (Observation of Along-shore Current in the Northern East Sea by SARAL/AltiKa Sea Level Data)

  • 연안에서 해표면고도를 정확하게 측정하도록 특별히 설계된 SARAL/Altika위성에 의해 관측된 해류를 비교 검정하기 위해 2015년 3월부터 2년간 위성추적 뜰개가 동해 북부 해상에 투하되었다. 해표면 고도 측정 위치에서 반경 20 km 이내에 위치한 뜰개(30분 간격으로 GPS로 위치 관측)와 비교한 결과, 수심 200 m 보다 얕은 해역에서 외해와 유사하게 높은 상관관계를 가진 것으로 나타나, 해류의 직접 관측이 어려운 동해 북부의 연안류의 시간 변동을 관측할 수 있게 되었다. 리만 해류는 일년 년중 시베리아 연안을 따라 남하하는 해류로 관측되었으며, 북한 한류는 여름철에만 남향하는 해류를 보였다. 북한 한류는 무수단곶 이남에서는 주로 남향류를, 무수단곶 이북에서는 무수단곶 근해에서의 에디 존재 유무에 의해 방향이 결정되는 것으로 연구되었다.

두 층 관측 기상인자의 주성분-다중회귀분석으로 도출되는 고농도 미세먼지의 부산-서울 지역차이 해석 (Interpretation and Comparison of High PM2.5 Characteristics in Seoul and Busan based on the PCA/MLR Statistics from Two Level Meteorological Observations)

  • In this study, two-step statistical approach including Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) was employed, and main meteorological factors explaining the high-PM2.5 episodes were identified in two regions: Seoul and Busan. We first performed PCA to isolate the Principal Component (PC) that is linear combination of the meteorological variables observed at two levels: surface and 850 hPa level. The employed variables at surface are: temperature (T2m), wind speed, sea level pressure, south-north and west-east wind component and those at 850 hPa upper level variables are: south-north (v850) and west-east (u850) wind component and vertical stability. Secondly we carried out MLR analysis and verified the relationships between PM2.5 daily mean concentration and meteorological PCs. Our two-step statistical approach revealed that in Seoul, dominant factors for influencing the high PM2.5 days are mainly composed of upper wind characteristics in winter including positive u850 and negative v850, indicating that continental (or Siberian) anticyclone had a strong influence. In Busan, however, the dominant factors in explanaining in high PM2.5 concentrations were associated with high T2m and negative u850 in summer. This is suggesting that marine anticyclone had a considerable effect on Busan's high PM2.5 with high temperature which is relevant to the vigorous photochemical secondary generation. Our results of both differences and similarities between two regions derived from only statistical approaches imply the high-PM2.5 episodes in Korea show their own unique characteristics and seasonality which are mostly explainable by two layer (surface and upper) mesoscale meteorological variables.

Diel and seasonal activity pattern of alien sika deer with sympatric mammalian species from Muljangori-oreum wetland of Hallasan National Park, South Korean

  • Background: Sika deer, Cervus nippon, were originally introduced to South Korea from Japan and Taiwan for commercial farming purposes. Unfortunately, they were released into the wild during religious events and have since begun to impact the native ecosystem and species endemic to South Korea. The study of activity patterns can improve our understanding of the environmental impact of non-native species and their association with sympatric species. Using camera traps, we studied the diel and seasonal activity patterns of non-native sika deer and quantified the temporal overlap with sympatric mammalian species in the Muljangori-oreum wetlands of Hallasan National Park, South Korea. Results: A total of 970 trap events were recorded for five mammalian species from nine locations during the camera-trap survey. Siberian roe deer (Capreolus pygargus tianschanicus) had the highest number of recorded events (72.0%), followed by sika deer (Cervus nippon) (16.2%), wild boar (Sus scrofa) (5.0%), Asian badger (Meles leucurus) (4.5%), and the Jeju weasel (Mustela sibirica quelpartis) (2.0%). Sika deer had bimodal activity patterns throughout the year, with peaks throughout the spring-autumn twilight, and day and night time throughout the winter. Relating the daily activity of sika deer with other mammalian species, roe deer expressed the highest degree of overlap (Δ4 = 0.80) while the Asian badger demonstrated the lowest overlap (Δ4 = 0.37). Conclusions: Our data show that sika deer are a crepuscular species with seasonal variations in daily activity patterns. Additionally, we identified the temporal differences in activity peaks between different mammals in the Muljangori-oreum wetlands and found higher degree of overlap between sika deer and roe deer during twilight hours.

환경 DNA 메타바코딩을 활용한 멧돼지 및 육상 포유류 출현 모니터링 - 경기도 양평군 일대를 중심으로 - (Monitoring the presence of wild boar and land mammals using environmental DNA metabarcoding - Case study in Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do -)

  • This study aims to estimate location of land mammals habitat by analyzing spatial data and investigate how to apply environmental DNA monitoring methodology to lotic system in Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do. Environmental DNA sampling points are selected through spatial analysis with QGIS open source program by overlaying Kernel density of wild boar(Sus scrofa), elevation, slope and land-cover map, and 81 samples are collected. After 240 mL of water was filtered in each sample, metabarcoding technique using MiMammal universal primer was applied in order to get a whole list of mammal species whose DNA particles contained in filtered water. 8 and 22 samples showed DNA of wild boar and water deer, respectively. DNA of raccoon dog, Eurasian otter, and Siberian weasel are also detected through metabarcoding analysis. This study is valuable that conducted in outdoor lotic system. The study suggests a new wildlife monitoring methodology integrating overlayed geographic data and environmental DNA.

SrAl2Si2O8 ceramic matrices for 90Sr immobilization obtained via spark plasma sintering-reactive synthesis

  • In the present study, an original spark plasma sintering-reactive synthesis (SPS-RS) method for minerallike ceramic materials based on SrAl2Si2O8 feldspar-like skeleton structure was used for the first time, promising solid-state matrices for reliable immobilization of high-energy 90Sr. The method is based on the "in-situ" reaction of a mixture of SrO, Al2O3 and SiO2 oxides when heated by a unipolar pulsed current under compacting pressure. The phase and elemental composition structure were studied. The dynamics of the consolidation of the reaction mixture of oxides was studied in the range of 900-1200 ℃. The study found the temperature of the high-speed (minutes) SPS-RS formation of single-phase SrAl2Si2O8 composition ceramic in the absence of intermediate reaction products with a relative density of up to 99.2% and compressive strength up to 145 MPa and a strontium leaching rate of 10-4g/cm2·day.
