MnTe layers of high crystalline quality were successfully grown on Si(100) : B and Si(111) substrates by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE). Under tellurium-rich condition and the substrate temperature around $400^{\circ}C$, a layer thickness of $700{\AA}$ could be easily obtained with the growth rate of $1.1 {\AA}/s$. We investigated the structural, magnetic and transport properties of MnTe layers by using x-ray diffraction (XRD), superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) magnetometry, and physical properties measurement system (PPMS). Characterization of MnTe layers on Si(100) : B and Si(111) substrates by XRD revealed a hexagonal structure of polycrystals with lattice parameters, ${\alpha}=4.143{\pm}0.001{\AA}\;and\;c=6.707{\pm}0.001{\AA}$. Investigation of magnetic and transport properties of MnTe films showed anomalies unlike antiferromagnetic powder MnTe. The temperature dependence of the magnetization data taken in zero-field-tooling (ZFC) and field-cooling (FC) conditions indicates three magnetic transitions at around 21, 49, and 210 K as well as the great irreversibility between ZFC and FC magnetization in the films. These anomalies are attributable to a magnetic-elastic coupling in the films. Magnetization measurements indicate ferromagnetic behaviour with hysteresis loops at 5 and 300 K for MnTe polycrystalline film. The coercivity ($H_c$) values at 5 and 300 K are 55 and 44 Oe, respectively. In electro-transport measurements, the temperature dependence of resistivity revealed a noticeable semiconducting behaviours and showed conduction via Mott variable range hopping at low temperatures.

In recent years there have been many studies of InGaN/GaN based light emitting diodes (LEDs) in order to progress the performance of luminescence. Many previous literatures showed the performance of LEDs by changing the LED structures and substrates. However, the studies carried out by the researchers so far were very complicated and sometimes difficult to apply in practice. Therefore, we propose one simple method of changing the thickness and the numbers of multiple quantum wells (MQWs) in order to optimize their effects. In our research, we investigated electrical and optical properties by changing the well thickness and the number of quantum well (QW) pair in LED structures by growing the structure -inch Si (111) wafer. We defined the samples from LED_1 to LED_3 according to MQW structure. Samples LED_1, LED_2 and LED_3 consist of 5-pair InGaN/GaN (3.5 nm/ 4.5 nm), 5-pair InGaN/GaN (3 nm/4.5 nm) and 7-pair InGaN/GaN (3.5 nm/4.5 nm), respectively. We characterized electrical and optical properties by using electroluminescence (EL) measurement. Also, Efficiency droop was analyzed by calculating external quantum efficiency (EQE) with varying injection current. The EL spectra of three samples show different emission wavelength peaks, FWHM and the blueshift of wavelength caused by screening the internal electric field because of the effect of different MQW structure. The results of optical properties show that the LED_2 sample reduce the internal electric field in QW than LED_1 from EL spectra. the increase in the number of QW pairs reduces the strain and increase the In composition in MQW. And, the points of efficiency droop's peak show different trend from LED_1 to LED_3. It is related with the carrier density in active region. Thus, from the results of experiments, we are able to achieve high performance LEDs and a reduction of efficiency droop and emission wavelength blueshift by optimizing MQWs structure.
To investigate the possibility of the $ZrO_2$ buffer layer as the insulator for the Metal-Ferroelectric-Insulator-semiconductor (MFIS) structure, $ZrO_2$ and $SrBi_2Ta_2O_9$ (SBT) thin films were deposited on the P-type Si(111) wafer by the R.F. magnetron-sputtering method. According to the process with and without the post-annealing of the $ZrO_2$ buffer layer and SBT thin film, the diffusion amount of Sr, Bi, Ta elements show slight difference through the Glow Discharge Spectrometer (GDS) analysis. From X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) results, we could confirm that the post-annealing process affects the chemical binding condition of the interface between the $ZrO_2$ thin film and the Si substrate. Compared to the MFIS structure without the post-annealing of the $ZrO_2$ buffer layer, memory window value of MFlS structure with post-annealing of the $ZrO_2$ buffer layer were considerably improved. The window memory of the Pt/SBT (260 nm, $800^{\circ}C)/ZrO_2$ (20 nm) structure increases from 0.75 to 2.2 V under the applied voltage of 9 V after post-annealing.
A bacterial leaching was conducted for pyrite with Thiobacillus ferrooxidans(ATcC 19859) and Thiobacillus KY isolated from acid mine water around Kwangyang area to characterize the surface of substrate as reaction progress at the optimum condition under 9K medium for 3- days. It was found that the surface crystallinity changes referred to hkl plane was observed for 20 days leached by T. ferrooxidans similar changes also observed for 10 days leached pyrite by Thiobacillus KY. Based on he results of SEM-EDS the atomic ratios of Fe, S and Si on the surface were changed to sulfur rich phase but exposed Si ratio decreased from 16.94% to 4.85% during 30days mainly due to reprecipitating of Fe and S as a mixed compound.
The characteristic of negative differential resistance(NDR) is decreased current when the applied voltage is increased. The NDR is potentially very useful in molecular electronics device schemes. Here, we investigated the NDR property of self-assembled 4,4- Di(ethynylphenyl)-2'-nitro-1-(thioacetyl)benzene, which has been well known as a conducting molecule. Self-assembly monolayers(SAMs) were prepared on Au(111), which had been thermally deposited onto pre-treatment$(H_2SO_4:H_2O_2=3:1)$ Si. The Au substrate was exposed to a 1mM/l solution of 1-dodecanethiol in ethanol for 24 hours to form a monolayer. After thorough rinsing the sample, it was exposed to a $0.1{\mu}M/l$ solution of 4,4-Di(ethynylphenyl)-2'-nitro-1-(thioacetyl)benzene in dimethylformamide(DMF) for 30 min and kept in the dark during immersion to avoid photo-oxidation. After the assembly, the samples were removed from the solutions, rinsed thoroughly with methanol, acetone, and $CH_2Cl_2$, and finally blown dry with $N_2$. Under these conditions, we measured electrical properties of self-assembly monolayers(SAMs) using ultra high vacuum scanning tunneling microscopy(UHV-STM). The applied voltages were from -2V to +2V with 299K temperature. The vacuum condition is $6{\times}10^{-8}$ Torr. As a result, we found the NDR voltage of the nitro-benzene is $-1.61{\pm}0.26$ V(negative region) and $1.84{\pm}0.33$ (positive region), respectively.
We have carried out copper MOCVD(metalorganic chemical vapor deposition) onto the reactive sputtered PVD-TiN and rapid thermal converted RTP-TiN substrates using direct liquid injection for effective delivery of the (hfac)Cu(vtmos) [$C_{10}H_{13}O_{5}CuF_{6}$Si: 1,1,1,5,5,5-hexafluoro-2,4- pentadionato (vinyltrimethoxysilane) copper (I)] precursor. Especially, the influences of deposition conditions and the substrate type on growth rate, crystal structure, microstructure, and electrical resistivity of copper deposits have been discussed. It is found that the film growth with 0.2ccm precursor flow rate become mass-transfer controlled up to Ar flow rate of 200sccm and pick-up rate controlled at a vaporizer above 1.0Torr reactor pressure. The surface-reaction controlled region from 155 to 225$^{\circ}C$ at 0.6Torr reactor pressure results in the apparent activation energies of 12.7~14.1kcal/mol, and above 224$^{\circ}C$ the growth rate with $H_2$ addition could be improved compared to the pure Ar carrier. The Cu/RTP-TiN structures which have high copper nucleation density in initial stage of growth show more pronounced (111) preferred orientations and lower electrical resistivities than those on PVD-TiN. The variation of electrical resistivity with substrate temperature reflects the three types of film microstructure changes, showing the lowest value for the deposit at 165$^{\circ}C$ with small grains of good contacts.

PLZT ferroelectric thin films were deposited on Pt/Ti/$SiO_2$/Si substrate with $TiO_2$ buffer layer in between by rf magnetron sputtering method. In order to investigate the effect of Ar/$O_2$ partial pressure ratio on the ferroelectric properties of PLZT thin films, PLZT thin films were deposited at various Ar/$O_2$ partial pressure ratio ; 27/1.5 seem, 23/5.5 seem, 21/7.5 seem and 19/9.5 seem. The crystallinities of PLZT thin films were analyzed by XRD. The surface morphology was observed using FE-SEM. The P-E hysteresis loops, the remanent polarization characteristics and the leakage current characteristics were obtained using a Precision LC. The crystallinity and elaborateness of PLZT thin films were decreased as increasing the oxygen partial pressure ratio. And preferred orientation of PLZT thin films changed from (110) plane to (111) plane. The oxygen partial pressure ratio affects the thin film surface morphology and the ferroelectric properties.

This paper presents a process optimization of antireflection (AR) coating on crystalline Si solar cells. Theoretical and experimental investigations were performed on a double-layer AR(DLAR) coating of MgFe$_2$/GeO$_2$. We investigated GeO$_2$ films as an AR layer because they have a proper refractive index of 2.46 and demonstrate the same lattice constant as Si substrate. RF sputter grown GeO$_2$ film showed deposition temperature strong dependence. The GeO$_2$ at 400$\^{C}$ exhibited a strong (111) preferred orientation and the lowest surface roughness of 6.87 $\AA$. Refractive index of MgFe$_2$film was measured as 1.386 for the most of growth temperature. An optimized DLAR coating showed a reflectance as low as 2.04% in the wavelengths ranged from 0.4 ㎛ to 1.1 ㎛. Solar cells with a structure of MgFe$_2$/GeO$_2$/Ag/N$\^$+//p-type Si/P$\^$+//Al were investigated with the without DLAR coatings. We achieved the efficiency of solar cells greater than 15% with 3.12% improvement with DLAR coatings. Further details about MgFe$_2$,GeO$_2$ films, and cell fabrication parameters are presented in this paper.
Heteroepitaxial $Y_2O_3$ films were grown on a Si(111) substrate by ionized cluster beam deposition(ICBD) in ultra high vacuum, and its qualities such as crystllitnity, film stress, and morphological characteristics were investigated using the various measurement methods. The crystallinity was investigated by x-ray diffraction (XRD) and reflection high energy electron diffraction (RHEED). Interface crystallinity was also examined by Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy(RBS) channeling, transmission electron microscopy(TEM). The stress of the films was measured by RBS channeling and XRD. Surface and interface morphological characteristics were investigated by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and x-ray scattering method. Comparing the interface with the surface characteristics, we can conclude that many defects at the interface region were generated by interface reaction between the yttrium metal and SiO2 layer and by ion beam characteristic such as shallow implantation, so that they influenced the film qualities. The film quality was dominantly depended on the characteristic temperature range. In the temperature range from $500^{\circ}C$ to $600^{\circ}C$, the crystallinity was mainly improved and the surface roughness was drastically decreased. On the other hand, in the temperature range from $600^{\circ}C$ to $700^{\circ}C$, the compressive stress and film density were dominantly increased, and the island size was more decreased. Also the surface morphological shape was transformed from elliptical shape to triangular. The film stress existed dominantly at the interface region due to the defects generation.

Titanium boride ($\textrn{TiB}_{x}$) films were deposited on (100) silicon substrates at the substrate temperature of $500^{\circ}C$ by means of the co-evaporation of titanium and boron evaporants during deposition. The co-evaporation method makes it possible to deposit the non-stoichiometric films with different boron-to-titanium ratio($0{\le}B/Ti \le 2.5$). The resistivity increases linearly as the boron-to-titanium ratio in the as-deposited films is increased. The surface roughness of $\textrn{TiB}_{x}$ films is changed as a function of the boron-to-titanium ratio. The XRD spectrum for pure titanium film shows a highly (002) preferred orientation. For B/Ti=0.59 ratio only a single TiB phase that shows a (111) preferred orientation is observed. However, the $\textrn{TiB}_{x}$ phase with the hexagonal structure of the $AlB_2$(C32) type appears as the boron concentration increase, and only a single $\textrn{TiB}_{x}$ phase is observed for $B/Ti \ge 2.0$ ratio. The $\textrn{TiB}_{x}$/Si samples reveal a tensile stress (3~$20{\times}^9$dyn/$\textrm{cm}^2$) in the overall composition of the films, although the magnitude of the residual stresses is depended on the nominal B/Ti ratio.
