  • The objective of this paper is to investigate the length change of high performance concrete using expansive additives to reduce autogenous shrinkage and drying shrinkage. The kinds and the contents of expansive additives are varied. The expansive additives are used made from Japan(CSA type;JEA), China(CSA type;CEA) and Korea(gypsum type; KEA), respectively. According to results, remarkable variations of the properties at fresh concrete are not found with dosage of expansive additives. For compressive strength, it decreases about 6-10% with expansive additives of 10%. Autogenous shrinkage decreases about 32%, and drying shrinkage does about 35%, respectively, with expansive additives of 5%, and about 68% and about 55%, with expansive additives of 10%. Accordingly, expansive additives demand requires 10% by cement weight in order to reduce shrinkage of high performance concrete more effectively in the sphere of this study, and JEA shows the best shrinkage reducing performance among the tested expansive additives.

  • Drying shrinkage cracking which may be caused by the relatively large specific surface is a matter of grave concern for latex modified concrete(LMC) overlay and rapid-setting cement latex modified concrete(RSLMC) overlay. Therefore, the purpose of this dissertation was to study the drying shrinkage properties of LMC and RSLMC with the main experimental variables such as cement types(ordinary portland cement, rapid setting cement), latex contents(0, 5, 10, 15, 20%), W-C ratios, and curing days at a same controlled environment of 60% of relative humidity and $20^{\circ}C$ of temperature. Test results revealed that the drying shrinkage of latex modified concrete(LMC), rapid-setting cement latex modified concrete(RSLMC) was considerably lower than that of ordinary portland cement concrete(OPC), rapid-setting cement concrete(RSC), respectively. This may be attributed to the interlocking of hydrated cement and aggregates by a film of latex particles, water retention due to hydrophobic and colloidal properties of the latexes, resulting in reduced water evaporation.

  • Drying shrinkage cracking which may be caused by the relatively large specific surface IS a matter of grave concern for latex modified concrete(LMC) overlay and rapid-setting cement latex modified concrete(RSLMC) overlay. LMC and RSLMC were studied for field applications very actively in terms of strength and durability in Korea. However, there were no considerations in drying shrinkage. Therefore, the purpose of this dissertation was to study the drying shrinkage properties of LMC and RSLMC with the main experimental variables such as cement types(ordinary portland cement, rapid setting cement), water-cement ratios and curing days at a same controlled environment of 60% of relative humidity and $20^{\circ}C$ of temperature The drying shrinkage for specimens was measured with a digital dial gauge of Demec. The test results showed that the drying shrinkage of LMC and RSLMC were considerably lower with low water-cement ratio, respectively This might be attributed to the interlocking of hydrated cement and aggregates by a film of latex particles, water retention due to hydrophobic, and colloidal properties of the latexes resulting in reduced water evaporation.

  • This study surveys the physical properties of ATY produced with FDY and POY. ATY is made with 70d Nylon FDY and 80d Nylon POY using AIKI air jet texturing machines, respectively. The processing parameters such as air pressure and yam speed are varied, and air pressure is varied ranging with 8.5bar, l0.5bar and 1l.5bar, and yarn speed is varied ranging with 400m/mim, 450m/mim, and 500m/min. The various physical properties of ATY made by POY and FDY denier, wet shrinkage, dry shrinkage, tensile properties, thermal stress and instability are measured and discussed with air pressure and yam speed. The shrinkage simulation of ATY is performed for analysing the process shrinkage on the dyeing and finishing processes.

  • PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to compare the linear sintering behavior of presintered zirconia blocks of various densities. The mechanical properties of the resulting sintered zirconia blocks were then analyzed. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Three experimental groups of dental zirconia blocks, with a different presintering density each, were designed in the present study. Kavo $Everest^{(R)}$ ZS blanks (Kavo, Biberach, Germany) were used as a control group. The experimental group blocks were fabricated from commercial yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia powder (KZ-3YF (SD) Type A, KCM. Corporation, Nagoya, Japan). The biaxial flexural strengths, microhardnesses, and microstructures of the sintered blocks were then investigated. The linear sintering shrinkages of blocks were calculated and compared. RESULTS. Despite their different presintered densities, the sintered blocks of the control and experimental groups showed similar mechanical properties. However, the sintered block had different linear sintering shrinkage rate depending on the density of the presintered block. As the density of the presintered block increased, the linear sintering shrinkage decreased. In the experimental blocks, the three sectioned pieces of each block showed the different linear shrinkage depending on the area. The tops of the experimental blocks showed the lowest linear sintering shrinkage, whereas the bottoms of the experimental blocks showed the highest linear sintering shrinkage. CONCLUSION. Within the limitations of this study, the density difference of the presintered zirconia block did not affect the mechanical properties of the sintered zirconia block, but affected the linear sintering shrinkage of the zirconia block.

  • Cracks in reinforced concrete structures reduce overall durability by allowing the penetration of water and aggressive agents, thereby accelerating the deterioration of the reinforcing steel. Highway pavement and bridge decks are especially susceptible to this type of deterioration since these structures exhibit high rates of shrinkage and are frequently exposed to aggressive environmental conditions. The objectives of this investigation included the development of experimental procedures for assessing shrinkage cracking potential of recycled aggregate concrete, the evaluation of mix composition on shrinkage cracking potential, and the development of theoretical models to simulate early-age cracking behavior. Specifically, the influences of shrinkage-reducing admixture(SRA) and recycled aggregate concrete were investigated. The shrinkage-reducing admixture substantially reduces free shrinkage and restrains shrinkage cracking while providing similar mechanical properties. A fracture mechanics modeling approach was developed to predict the behavior of a variety of restrained concrete specimens. This modeling approach was used to successfully explain experimental results from a variety of mixture compositions. The model was used to demonstrate the influence of material and structural properties on the potential for cracking.

  • Prepackaged system consists out of a dry mix which contains cement, sand, redispersible polymer powder and admixtures in the right proportions. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the quality of prepackaged-type polymer-modified mortar products using redispersible poly(ethylene-vinyl acetate)(EVA) powder. Polymer-modified mortars using the redispersible polymer powder with powdered with powdered shrinkage-reducing agent were prepared with cellulose fiber contents of 0, 0.5, 1.0% and shrinkage-reducing agent contents of 0, 4%, and tested for drying shrinkage, strength, adhesion in tension, water absorption. From the test results, the prepackaged-type polymer-modified mortar products with 4% of shrinkage-reducing agent content give good properties. and that their properties largely depends on the shrinkage-reducing agent content rather than the cellulose fiber contents.

  • A drying paper strives to shrink due to the shrinkage of the individual paper fibres. Laboratory results show that a reduction of the shrinkage or an imposed stretch leads to a large increase in tensile stiffness and a large decrease in strain at break. In c cylinder drying section the water in the web is repeatedly heated on the drying cylinder and evaporated in the free draw. To evaluate the drying process regarding influence on paper properties these sub-processes, or drying phases, have to be studied separately. The effect of the conditions on the drying cylinder and on the VacRoll is investigated in pilot trails. Both the fabric tension on the drying cylinder and on the VacRoll reduces the shrinkage of the paper. The laboratory results are used as input to a numerical simulation of the conditions in the free draw. If the web width is increased or the length of the free draw is reduced the mean shrinkage of the paper web is reduced . However, the difference in shrinkage between the middle and the edge of the web is increased.
