Although set accelerating agents are used generally in New Austrian Tunneling Method, the standards for test methods and quality of set accelerating agents are not prescribed domestically. In this study, the proprieties of the various standards and the characteristics of set accelerating agents for shotcrete were evaluated. The alkali contents of set accelerating agents based on silicate, aluminate and cement were higher than those of alkali-free ones. From the result, it is thought that the quality control of aggregate should be enhanced and that the number of test cycle of alkali-aggregate reaction should be increased. The setting times of cement paste with set accelerating agents based on silicate and alkali-free ones were different largely with mixing methods. Compressive strength of mortar with set accelerating agents based on silicate, aluminate and cement at one day satisfied the specifications of Korea Concrete Institute. However, the strength ratio compared to control mix at 28 days showed as $50{\~}65\%$ except for the alkali-free set accelerating agents. As a results of setting time and strength test, the establishment of domestic standards that can reflect the characteristics of materials and construction methods of tunnels and that can increase quality of set accelerating agents is required immediately.
A three-dimensional panel system, which was offered as a new method for construction in Jordan using relatively high strength modular panels for walls and ceilings, is investigated in this paper. The panel consists of two steel meshes on both sides of an expanded polystyrene core and connected together with a truss wire to provide a 3D system. The top face of the ceiling panel was pored with regular concrete mix, while the bottom face and both faces of the wall panels were cast by shotcreting (dry process). To investigate the structural performance of this system, an extensive experimental testing program for ceiling and wall panels subjected to static and dynamic loadings was conducted. The load-deflection curves were obtained for beam and shear wall elements and wall elements under transverse and axial loads, respectively. Static and dynamic analyses were conducted, and the performance of the proposed structural system was evaluated and compared with a typical three dimensional reinforced concrete frame system for buildings of the same floor areas and number of floors. Compressive strength capacity of a ceiling panel is determined for gravity loads, while flexural capacity is determined under the effect of wind and seismic loading. It was found that, the strength and serviceability requirements could be easily satisfied for buildings constructed using the three-dimensional panel system. The 3D panel system is superior to that of conventional frame system in its dynamic performance, due to its high stiffness to mass ratio.

For initial stability of the tunnel, the primary support, Shotcrete and rockbolt shall be placed in the most appropriate time. This is because the role of such support plays a vital role in long-term and short-term tunnel stability. In this study, the rock bolt is an important supporting system that receives the external pressure generated by the stress relaxation during tunnel excavation as axial force and transmits it to the shotcrete on the tunnel excavation surface. Until now, most of the materials of rock bolts have been used in the field, but there have been many problems such as uncertain quality of Chinese materials entering the market, poor packing due to falling down of rock bolts when filled with mortar, and corrosion due to water. Therefore, in this study, we have developed a high strength steel pipe rock bolt using Autobeam material to solve and improve various problems of existing rock bolts. In order to evaluate the performance of the developed bolt, field tests were carried out and the existing mortar filler in order to improve the performance of the rock bolt, the design and construction criteria were studied and the results were included in this paper.

In this study, it was analyzed how the pore pressure behind a subsea tunnel influences on the stability of the tunnel. The tunnel is located in the soft rock layer, and a soft sandy layer and weathered soil layer are located on the top of it. Coupled numerical analyses are performed for both drained and undrained condition with varying coefficients of lateral earth pressure. In the case of undrained conditions, the stability of the tunnel was analyzed with different thicknesses of shotcrete. On the other hand, a sensitivity analysis was performed with different hydraulic conductivities and porosities of the shotcrete for the drained conditions. The stability of a subsea tunnel was evaluated in terms of safety factor suggested by You et al.(2000, 2001, 2005) based on the shear strength reduction technique. In this paper, the safety factor of a tunnel was calculated under steady state flow condition during hydro-mechanical coupled analysis. As a result, it was found that the stability of a subsea tunnel could be rather increased by allowing a proper amount of groundwater inflow into a subsea tunnel.
This study was carried out to investigate and analyse the influence of maximum size of coarse aggregate and quality control of aggregate on the properties of shotcrete through the laboratory and field test. From the results of the test, as the maximum size of coarse aggregate decreased from 13 mm to 8 mm, plasticity property declined and compressive strength and dynamic modulus of elasticity of hardened concrete increased remarkably, so it was found that the aggregate size 8 mm was superior to 13, 10 mm in fluidity, constructability and durability. Therefore, it was advisable for well maximum size of coarse aggregate to apply to the 8mm aggregates through the Ready-mixed Method for quality control and minimum segregation.
Shotcrete, rockbolt, and steel rib are installed to support ground after tunnel was excavated. These are important supports for NATM applied tunnels. Recently, lattice girder is increasingly used because it is easily installed. In this study, we developed a new lattice girder by increasing contacting area between spider and rod. To verify the effect of the new lattice girder, the 3-point and 4-point flexural strength tests were carried out for LG-$50{\times}20{\times}30$, LG-$70{\times}20{\times}30$, LG-$95{\times}22{\times}32$. As a result, in case of contacting area, strength of new SGS lattice girder is 17.95% higher than that of original lattice girder. In case of weakness point, strength of new SGS lattice girder is 19.37% higher than that of original lattice girder.
PURPOSES : The purpose of the study was to examine dynamic features of concrete after mixing a little macro fiber with small aspect ratio and long length utilized for bridge, tunnel and shotcrete for tensile performance and crack control in domestic/overseas countries with cement concrete pavement mix. METHODS : Coarse aggregates with small aspect ratio and macro fibers with maximum length of approximately 32 mm are introduced in small quantities in the mix proportions of concrete pavement so as to prevent loss of the workability. Then, this study intends to evaluate the applicability of macro fibers in the mix proportions of concrete pavement by examining the basic construction performance, as well as the change of toughness, the equivalent bending strength and the flexural toughness index caused by compression, bending, tension and the flexural stress-displacement curve. RESULTS : As the results, in each kind of macro fiber, polyvinyl alcohol fiber and steel fiber displayed a good performance. CONCLUSIONS : In 0.2 and 0.3% of fiber contents, it is appeared that polyvinyl alcohol fiber has a large effect on improvement of tensile performance and steel fiber on improvement of deforming performance of bending stress.

In Korea, there are recently many attempts to expand a temporary soil nailing system into a permanent soil nailing system since the first construction in 1993. In the downtown area, it is important that the relaxation of the ground is minimized in the ground excavation works. Due to these problems, soil nailing systems are often used the flexible facing such as shotcrete rather than the rigid facing such as SCW, CIP, and jet grout types in Korea. The soil nailing systems with rigid facings are used greatly however it is insufficient researches for design and analysis of soil nailing systems with rigid facings. In this study, various laboratory model tests are carried out to examining the influence the rigidity of facings on the global safety of soil nailing system, failure loads, displacement behaviour, axial force acting on the nails, and distribution of earth pressure. Also, the parametric studies are carried out for the typical section of soil nailed walls according to thickness of concrete facings and internal friction angle of soil using the numerical technique as shear strength reduction technique.
A rockbolt is one of the most important reinforcement of on-site soil, as with the shotcrete and steel rib. The rockbolt by setting within the tunnel can prevent the deformation of the ground profile; furthermore it improves the structural behavior of soil and rock. In general, the rockbolt is mainly used with reinforced steel. However, steel pipe or the materials with the same strength can be used depending on the soil conditions, ground water outflow condition, and the surrounding of applying location. In Korea, most tunnel construction sites have used cement mortar or resin for steel reinforcement on the rock. Due to the ground water outflow in the construction site, the usability of steel reinforcement is poor and it requires curing time especially after installation. To improve exist above problems, this study introduces the development of a swelled steel pipe rockbolt, as well as presents the field testing and performance results.
