  • In this paper, we extract the parasitic elements of the metal-insulate-metal(MIM) capacitor using short-open calibration (SOC). The scattering matrixes of short, open, and MIM structures in strip lines are measured by full electro-magnetic (EM) simulator and vector network analyser. The full EM simulations are performed by finite element method (FEM) that was fitted three dimensional structure analysis. The electro-magnetic effects of MIM capacitor laminated in the multi-layered structures are proposed the II equivalent circuit with lumped elements, and the relations between the measured scattering parameters of the MIM structures and lumped elements in the circuits are shown by performing 2 port network analysis. The extracted lumped elements using the proposed SOC method are independent to frequencies.

  • In this paper, we extract the parasitic elements of the transmission line with the defected ground structure(DGS) and the short-circuited comb line section using the Short-Open Calibration(SOC). The scattering matrixes of short, open and the distributed elements in microstrip line are measured by full electro-magnetic(EM) simulator and Vector Network Analyser(VNA). The electro-magnetic effects of the proposed structures are considered by the II and T equivalent circuits with frequency independent elements, and the relations between the measured scattering parameters and the elements in the circuits are shown by performing 2 port network analysis. Moreover, to design the 2.4 GHz bandpass filter with second order butterworth prototype, the proposed methods are applied. As results, the measured $S_{11}$ and $S_{21}$ indicate -20 dB and -1.3 dB at center frequency, and these are shown within 5 % error compare to the predicted results at $0.5{\sim}5\;GHz$.

  • SOL (Short, Open and Load) calibration based on iterative error sensitivity is proposed in this paper. With advanced SOL calibration, unknown parasitic parameters at on-chip terminations are accurately estimated up to 20 GHz. Artificial terminations are designed on printed circuit board (PCB) to experiment the proposed method. On-chip SHORT, OPEN and LOAD fabricated inside silicon shows the accuracy of proposed calibration method through the comparison with known fixture S-parameter after de-embedding.

  • In this paper, we propose a horizontal/vertical calibration kit for calibrating a vector network analyzer(VNA) to measure the vertical connector pin. If the conventional calibration kit is used, we should change the arm for a probe or need an assistant device and it takes a long time. In addition there is a risk of precision degradation caused by the position change of the probe tip sensitive to the surroundings. We suggest a 4-port vertical calibration kit to make up for the aforementioned shortcomings. The calibration kit was manufactured for the SOLT calibration method. 'Short', 'Open', and 'Load' are available in the horizontal plane, 'Thru' is available not only in the horizontal plane on the two planes of a PCB, but in the vertical plane between the two planes according to the positions of the probes. We complemented the conventional calibration kit to make a vertical calibration kit to be used for the vertical measurement method. We compared and analysed their reflection/transfer characteristics of the SOLT calibration standards of the proposed calibration kit and conventional one, we get a ${\pm}0.1$ dB differences of transfer characteristics in the range from 300 kHz to 8.5 GHz. In order to demonstrate usefulness, and we performed a case study for horizontal and vertical cases, and compared the results of the proposed calibration kit and conventional one.

  • In this paper, an air-suspension type RF MEMS inductor is fabricated, and an appropriate de-embedding scheme for 3-dimenstional MEMS structure is applied and verified with inductance calculation algorithm. With the presented de-embedding method, parasitics from contanct pads and feeding lines are effectively and accurately de-embedded using open and short calibration procedure, and only spiral and posts can be characterized as a high-Q inductor structure. The validity of the de-embedding method is verified by the comparison of the measured and calculated inductances of two 1.5 and 2.5 turn square spiral inductors. The open-short de-embedded inductance error is below 5% each case in comparison with the calculated value based on H.M. Greenhouse's algorithm.

  • In this paper, we present a equivalent circuit considered parasitic elements about LTCC multi-layer BPF structure that was studied previously and a process of extraction of the element value using SOC technique. By applying extracted element values to equivalent circuit, 2th LTCC filter was designed and fabricated that was applied to satellite DMB. The filter was fabricated of Dupont951 substrate with relative permittivity of 7.8, the dimension of the fabricated filter is $2.4{\times}3.8{\times}0.378mm^3$. The measurement results indicate 1.4 dB of insertion loss and 32.3 dB of return loss, which are in good agreement with simulated ones.

  • In this paper, the complex permittivity of various dielectrics such as powder(sugar and flour) and solid(teflon and acrvl) are measured by using an open ended coaxial-line probe, which is self designed and manufactured, The probe is connected to a vector network analyzer(VNA) through a coaxial cable, The end of the cable is corrected by using an OSL(open, short, and load) calibration kit, The phase difference, which is produced by inserting the probe at the end of the line. is compensated by using the numerically calculated reflection coefficient of distilled water, The complex permittivity is reconstructed by inserting the measured reflection coefficient, which is produced at the interface between the probe and measuring material, into ,an virtual conical cable conversion model. Over a wide frequency range from 30 MHz to 3 GHz, the measured complex permittivitis of various powder and solid using the our method are compared with the results, which are measured by using an transmission-line method of the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science(KRISS).

  • Static load tests were performed for open-ended piles, closed-ended piles, piles with grouted toe, and base-grouted piles by using calibration chamber. Then vertical bearing capacities determined from load tests were compared with each other. The stability of base-grouted pile during a simulated seaquake was investigated by changing the penetration depth. Also, static load tests and seaquake tests for 2-piles and 4-piles group were performed. The bearing capacity of the pile grouted inside the toe was 11.2~30.8% less than that of open-ended pile because of reduction of base resistance due to disturbance of base soil under pile toe. The bearing capacity of a base-grouted pile was 23.8~33.9% more than that of an open-ended pile and was similar to that of a closed-ended pile. The bearing capacity of base-grouted group pile was increased ; the bearing capacity of base-grouted 2-piles group increased 14.6~31.8% compared to that of open-ended 2-piles group, and that of base-grouted 4-piles group increased 15.3~22.4% compared to that of open-ended 4-piles group. During the simulated seaquake in deep sea, stability of base-grouted pile was found to be dependent on the pile penetration depth. During seaquake motion, single long base-grouted pile longer than 20m was stable and short base-grouted pile shorter than 12m failed. But relatively long base-grouted pile longer than 12m kept mobility state. Bearing capacity of base-grouted group pile with penetration depth less than 7m was degraded a little bit ; so, base-grouted group pile could maintain mobility condition.

  • The purpose of this study is to show the possibility of 3-dimensional modeling of open-pit limestone mine by using a rotary-wing unmanned aerial vehicle, a drone, and to estimate the amount of mining before and after mining of limestone by explosive blasting. Analysis of the image duplication of the mine has shown that it is possible to achieve high image quality. Analysis of each axis error at the shooting position after analyzing the distortions through camera calibration was shown the allowable range. As a result of estimating the amount of mining before and after explosive blasting, it was possible to estimate the amount of mining of a wide range quickly and accurately in a relatively short time. In conclusion, it is considered that the drone of a rotary-wing unmanned aerial vehicle can be usefully used for the monitoring of open-pit limestone mines and the estimation of the amount of mining. Furthermore, it is expected that this method will be utilized for periodic monitoring of construction sites and road slopes as well as open-pit mines in the future.
