  • The purposes of this studs were 1) to identify web navigation values and classify consumers based on these values and 2) to determine differences between consumer groups and between types of shopping mall in evaluation of website attributes when shopping apparel. The data were collected via a self-administered questionnaire from 204 male and female students who experienced shopping at the website, living in Cheju and analyzed by factor analysis, cluster analysis and t-test. Two factors of navigation value were found and labeled as; information value and entertainment value. Two groups were identified based on navigation value; users of information value (53%) and users of entertainment value (47%). Significant differences between two groups were found in evaluating website attributes selling products of various types regarding apparel products and processes for information search, order and payment. However, for shopping mall website selling only apparel products, differences between two groups were not significant in evaluating most attributes except for two items to evaluate apparel products. Differences between shopping mall types (shopping malls selling products of various types and selling only apparel product) were significant in evaluation of internet users of information value regarding attributes of apparel products while differences between shopping mall types were not significant in evaluation of users of entertainment value regarding all attributes. Internet users of information value showed favor to shopping mall website of department store type chi e internet users of entertainment value showed favor to shopping mall website selling only apparel products.

  • Domestic competition of Internet shopping malls is becoming more intense everyday. Users prefer an convenient and reliable shopping mall. Thus the design of Internet shopping malls with a strengthened convenience in usage will not only increase the desire of users to purchase, but will also encourage the users to revisit to the website, and it will increase the competitive power of the shopping mall. In this paper, I examined the interface design which users can use conveniently to purchase products, and proposed a design for an Internet shopping mall in which product information is conveniently provided to the user and the convenience in usage for guiding product selection and purchase is strengthened. The results of this study show that the navigation designs which allowed users to conveniently find products on Internet shopping malls included a roll-over menu in which a subdirectory was presented with a large area. If the navigation that guides products to users were designed more conveniently, users would be able to find and purchase products more easily. Since a web interface design with strengthened convenience in usage helps users to satisfactorily select and purchase products on an Internet shopping mall, it would increase the reliability of the shopping mall.

Design characteristics are divided into three aspects such as structural, visual, and customer service, and the results are as follow. First, from the structural perspective, the main navigation area and global navigation area of most shopping malls are arranged at the top center, and below them, the main image, the banner area, and the content area are arranged in order. Looking at the visual aspect, the logo is mostly written in a black text, the colors used on the main page were only one or two colors such as pink-based, gray-based, and red. Finally, from the customer service aspect, most shopping malls were encouraging buyers to place celebrity sponsorship, videos using products, self made products, and best products in the banner area. • This study investigated the factors in evaluating internet shopping mall sites, and developed a self-report evaluation scale of such sites, This article identifies factors to determine criteria for evaluating the sites from the consumers' viewpoint. Eighty three items were extracted initially, which were then categorized as follows: \circled1 Type of business, \circled2 Navigation ease, \circled3 Technological level, \circled4 Design of sites, \circled5 Communication ease, \circled6 Information available, \circled7 Ease of access, and \circled8 Site security, Overall reliability coefficients were high in the individual domains ($\alpha$=.86 to $\alpha$=.95). Face validity and contents validity were demonstrated to be good, There were significant differences in the means of these categories. The results also show that the technological level is the most important in shopping mall sites evaluation. These results may be used not only as a tool to evaluate shopping mall sites but also as a guideline to improve the quality of a shopping mall site that is under development.

  • Designing effective navigation aids for customer interfaces is critical for the success of cyber shopping malls. Navigation aids can be classified into either basic ones which are based on the structure of the malls or add-ons which are not. Add-on navigation aids provide various short-cuts to promote efficient traversal in the cyber shopping malls, but too many of them would increase the complexity of the customer interface. Metaphors have been used widely for the design of add-on navigation aids, but little research evaluates their impact on the processes and outcomes of customers behavior in cyber shopping malls. This paper presents an empirical study that investigates the navigation process of customers and the subjective evaluation of their shopping experience. This research implemented two versions of a test-bed cyber shopping mall according to different metaphors used; one based on a spatial metaphor, and the other based on a non spatial metaphor. The results of the experiment indicate that navigation aids based on the spatial metaphor were used more frequently, which resulted in better understanding about the entire structure of the cyber shopping malls, which in turn led to an increased ease of finding target items and also a more pleasant shopping experience. The benefits of navigation aids based on the spatial metaphor became more evident when customers were looking for ad-hoc category items rather than common items. This paper presents plausible explanations for the results and implications to the design of navigation aids for cyber shopping malls.
