  • The application of appropriate rehabilitation methods can improve the efficiency of clogged wells and extend their life. In this paper, we study the feasibility of well cleaning using high-voltage pulsed discharge, in which electrical energy is used to produce impulsive pressure in water, in contrast to conventional methods that employ chemical or pneumatic energy sources. This technique utilizes the compressive shock wave generated by the expansive force of hot, dense plasma that is produced during a pulsed discharge in the gap between electrodes immersed in water. Compared with conventional techniques, this method is simple, and easy to handle and control. Using a capacitive pulsed power system with an electrical energy of 200 J, an impulsive pressure of 10.7 MPa is achieved at the position 6 cm away from the discharge gap. The amplitude of the impulsive pressure was easily controlled by adjusting the charging voltage of the capacitor and was almost linearly proportional to peak discharge current. The technique achieved good results in cleaning feasibility tests with mock-up specimens similar to clogged well screens.

  • The expansion of the physical road in response to changes in social conditions and policy of the country has reached the limit. In order to alleviate congestion on the existing road to reconsider the effectiveness of this method should be asking. Currently, how to collect traffic information for management of the intersection is limited to point detection systems. Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) was the traffic information collection system of point detection method such as through video and loop detector in the past. However, intelligent transportation systems of the next generation(C-ITS) has evolved rapidly in real time interval detection system of collecting various systems between the pedestrian, road, and car. Therefore, this study is designed to evaluate the development of an algorithm for queue length based real-time traffic signal control methodology. Four coordinates estimate on time-space diagram using the travel time each individual vehicle collected via the interval detector. Using the coordinate value estimated during the cycle for estimating the velocity of the shock wave the queue is created. Using the queue length is estimated, and determine the signal timing the total queue length is minimized at intersection. Therefore, in this study, it was confirmed that the calculation of the signal timing of the intersection queue is minimized.

  • Existing real-time signal control system was brought up typical problems which are supersaturated condition, point detection system and loop detection system. For that reason, the next generation signal control system of advanced form is required. Following thesis aimed at calculating queue length for the next generation signal control system to utilize basic parameter of signal control in crossing queue instead of the volume of real-time through traffic. Overflow saturated condition which was appeared as limit of existing system was focused to set-up range. Real-time location information of individual vehicle which is collected by GPS data. It converted into the coordinate to apply shock wave model with an linear equation that is extracted by regression model applied by a least square. Through the calculated queue length and link length by contrast, If queue length exceed the link, queue of downstream intersection is included as queue length that upstream queue vehicle is judeged as affecting downstream intersection. In result of operating correlation analysis among link travel time to judge confidence of extracted queue length, Both of links were shown over 0.9 values. It is appeared that both of links are highly correlated. Following research is significant using real-time data to calculate queue length and contributing to signal control system.

  • Sialolithiasis is the formation of calcific concretions within the ductal system of major or minor salivary glands. The submandibular gland is most involved because of its high viscosity of the saliva and the long, curved duct. It may occur at any age but, it is most common in middle-aged adults and rare in childhood. Clinical symptoms in sialolithiasis are variable but, swelling is the most common, followed by the pain. Clinical examination and radiographic examination(panoramic and mandibular occlusal radiographs, sialography, intraoral-, extraoral- ultrasound, CT scan, MRI and sialoendoscopy) can help to confirm a diagnosis and localize a stone. The treatment is surgical intervention, either removal of the sialolith or sialoadenectomy. However, non-invasive techniques including shock-wave lithotripsy, $CO_2$ laser and endoscopic treatment used in selected cases. A 5-Year-old girl referred from private practice for evaluation of a yellowish mass on the floor of the mouth. She complained that it had became three times bigger than four months ago when it was found for the first time and she had some pain on submandibular gland area occasionally. On physical examination, a firm and yellowish mass could be seen at the orifice of the submandibular duct. Diagnosis is the submandibular sialolithiasis in the anterior Wharton`s duct. Under local anesthesia, stone was removed.

  • The ubiquitous transportation system environments make it possible to collect each vehicle's position and velocity data and to perform more sophisticated traffic flow management at individual vehicle or platoon level through V2V and V2I communication. It is necessary to develop a new traffic management paradigm to take advantage of the ubiquitous transportation system environments. This paper proposed a preventive congestion management algorithm for uninterrupted flow, whose goal is to minimize the incident potential and maximize the productivity by maintaining traffic flow stability. The algorithm includes the following steps: Processing the raw data to produce the 3-dimension speed/flow/density profile and to produce the platoon profile and the shock wave profile, Determining the traffic state and the flow stability based on the processed data, Deciding the desirable speed the according the traffic flow state, and finally Providing the desirable speed information. It remains as further work to perform field experiments and calibrate the algorithm parameters.

  • Purpose: The use of implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) to prevent sudden cardiac death is increasing in children and adolescents. This study investigated the use of ICDs in children with congenital heart disease. Methods: This retrospective study was conducted on the clinical characteristics and effectiveness of ICD implantation at the department of pediatrics of a single tertiary center between 2007 and 2011. Results: Fifteen patients underwent ICD implantation. Their mean age at the time of implantation was $14.5{\pm}5.4$ years (range, 2 to 22 years). The follow-up duration was $28.9{\pm}20.4$ months. The cause of ICD implantation was cardiac arrest in 7, sustained ventricular tachycardia in 6, and syncope in 2 patients. The underlying disorders were as follows: ionic channelopathy in 6 patients (long QT type 3 in 4, catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia [CPVT] in 1, and J wave syndrome in 1), cardiomyopathy in 5 patients, and postoperative congenital heart disease in 4 patients. ICD coils were implanted in the pericardial space in 2 children (ages 2 and 6 years). Five patients received appropriate ICD shock therapy, and 2 patients received inappropriate shocks due to supraventricular tachycardia. During follow-up, 2 patients required lead dysfunction-related revision. One patient with CPVT suffered from an ICD storm that was resolved using sympathetic denervation surgery. Conclusion: The overall ICD outcome was acceptable in most pediatric patients. Early diagnosis and timely ICD implantation are recommended for preventing sudden death in high-risk children and patients with congenital heart disease.

  • Due to the climate change, torrential rain downpours unprecedentedly, and urban areas repeatedly suffer from the inundation damages, which cause miserable loss of property and life by flooding. Two major reasons of urban flooding are river inundation and inland submergence. However, most of previous studies ignored the comprehensive mechanism of those two factors, and showed discrepancy and inadequacy due to the linear summation of each analysis result. In this study, river inundation and inland flooding were analyzed at the same time. Petrov-stabilizing scheme was adopted to capture the shock wave accurately by which river inundation can be modularized. In addition, flux-blocking alrotithm was introduced to handle the wet and dry phenomena. Sink/source terms with EGR (Exponentially Growth Rate) concept were incorporated to the shallow water equations to consider inland flooding. Comprehensive simulation implementing inland flooding and river inundation at the same time produced satisfactory results because it can reflect the counterbalancing and superposition effects, which provided accurate prediction in flooding analysis.

  • This study presents an analysis of infrasonic signals from two accidental explosions in Gwangyang city, Jeonnam Province, Korea, on December 24, 2019, recorded at 12 infrasound stations located 151-435 km away. Infrasound propagation refracted at an altitude of ~40 km owing to higher stratospheric wind in the NNW direction, resulting in favorable detection at stations in that direction. However, tropospheric phases were observed at stations located in the NE and E directions from the explosion site because of the strong west wind jet formed at ~10 km. The transmission losses on the propagation path were calculated using the effective sound velocity structure and parabolic equation modeling. Based on the losses, the observed signal amplitudes were corrected, and overpressures were estimated at the reference distance. From the overpressures, the source energy was evaluated through the overpressure-explosive charge relationship. The two explosions were found to have energies equivalent to 14 and 65 kg TNT, respectively. At the first explosion, a flying fragment forced by an explosive shock wave was observed in the air. The energy causing the flying fragment was estimated to be equivalent to 49 kg or less of TNT, obtained from the relationship between the fragment motion and overpressure. Our infrasound propagation modeling is available to constrain the source energy for remote explosions. To enhance the confidence in energy estimations, further studies are required to reflect the uncertainty of the atmospheric structure models on the estimations and to verify the relationships by various ground truth explosions.

  • The fundamental experiments for measuring soft x-ray characteristics from the vacuum capillary are described. These experiments were primarily performed in order to generate line spectra such as x-ray lasers. The generator consists of a high-voltage power supply, a polarity-inversion ignitron pulse generator, a turbo-molecular pump, and a radiation tube with a capillary. A high-voltage condenser of 200 nF in the pulse generator is charged up to 20 kV by the power supply, and the electric charges in the condenser are discharged to the capillary in the tube after closing the ignitron. During the discharge, weakly ionized plasma forms on the inner and outer sides of a capillary. In the present work, the pump evacuates air from the tube with a pressure of about 1 mPa, and a demountable capillary was developed in order to measure x-ray spectra according to changes in the capillary length. In this capillary, the anode (target) and cathode elements can be changed corresponding to the objectives. The capillary diameter is 2.0 mm, and the length is adjusted from 1 to 50 mm. When a capillary with aluminum anode and cathode electrodes was employed, both the cathode voltage and the discharge current almost displayed damped oscillations. The peak values of the voltage and current increased when the charging voltage was increased, and their maximum values were -10.8 kV and 4.7 kA, respectively. The x-ray durations observed by a 1.6 ${\mu}$m aluminum filter were less than 30 ${\mu}$s, and we detected the aluminum characteristic x-ray intensity using a 6.8 ${\mu}$m aluminum filter. In the spectrum measurement, two sets of aluminum and titanium electrodes were employed, and we observed multi-line spectra. The line photon energies seldom varied according to changes in the condenser charging voltage and to changes in the electrode element. In the case where the titanium electrode was employed, the line number decreased with corresponding decreases in the capillary length. Compared with incoherent visible light, these rays from the capillary were diffracted and diffused greatly after passing through two slits.
