  • This paper, described on the maneuverabilities of M.S. Cheju 402, the stern trawler (159 G.T.), training ship of Cheju National University which carried out the turning circle tests at helm angle 35$^{\circ}$ and 10$^{\circ}$, 20$^{\circ}$, 30$^{\circ}$Ztests of her. The results obtained were as follows; 1. The advances of the starboard and port turning circles were 79.1m, about 2.6 times of the length of the ship, and 81.4m, about 2.7 times of it, respectively. 2. The rates of speed reduction were about 0.49 together, and mean values of turning angular velocity of her at helm angle 35$^{\circ}$ into the starboard and port sides were 4.3$^{\circ}$/sec and 4$^{\circ}$/sec during the turning movement. 3. Overshoot angles of starboard side werelarger than those of port side at all Z tests, and mean values of them of the starboard and port sides at 10$^{\circ}$, 20$^{\circ}$, 30$^{\circ}$Z tests were 110.5$^{\circ}$ 20.5$^{\circ}$, 28.5$^{\circ}$ respectively. 4. The maneuvering indices K and T of experimental ship at 10$^{\circ}$, 20$^{\circ}$, 30$^{\circ}$, Z tests were 0.755 and 3.468, 0.566, and 1.621, and 0.481 and 1.547 respectively. Consequently, the experimental ship showed that her turning ability was more in effective as the helm angle was becomed larger and her obeying ability was more effective as it was becomed larger.

  • Doppler log and current meter are based on the measurment of the doppler effect. Ship's speed over the ground measured by means of doppler log effect of underwater ultrasonic intends to get infulence by the difference of sound velocity, the ship's course, the sea bottom inclination, the trim and tranducer installation etc. This paper investigated on the error of speed over the ground by change of the trim comparing the real speed obtained by the mile post with the speed of single beam type doppler log on the trainning ship Kyeongyangho. The results are as follows ; 1. Indicating speed of doppler log is very much greatly influenced on variation of trim, but the real speed is less affected variation by trim. 2. The range of variation and error of speed over ground are smallest when ship's trim is 2.15m trim by the stern.

  • In this study, we propose a method for evaluating the risk of collision between ships to support determination on the risk of collision in a situation in which ships encounter each other and to prevent collision accidents. Because several uncertainties are involved in the navigation of a ship, must be considered when evaluating the risk of collision. We apply the Dempster-Shafer theory to manage this uncertainty and evaluate the collision risk of each target vessel in real time. The distance at the closest point approach (DCPA), time to the closest point approach (TCPA), distance from another vessel, relative bearing, and velocity ratio are used as evaluation factors for ship collision risk. The basic probability assignments (BPAs) calculated by membership functions for each evaluation factor are fused through the combination rule of the Dempster-Shafer theory. As a result of the experiment using automatic identification system (AIS) data collected in situations where ships actually encounter each other, the suitability of evaluation was verified. By evaluating the risk of collision in real time in encounter situations between ships, collision accidents caused by human errora can be prevented. This is expected to be used for vessel traffic service systems and collision avoidance systems for autonomous ships.

  • In this paper a new dc-link type wind turbine generator system using a shaft generator system, which is widely used for power sources in a ship, is proposed. The basic configuration of the proposed wind turbine generating system is first explained. And the equations expressing the system are derived. Then the steady-state characteristics of the generating system are discussed. We use an experimental system that can simulate the characteristics of a wind turbine in this study, because it is hard to operate an actual wind turbine in a laboratory. In addition, the transient responses of this system are investigated when the velocity of the wind is changed. It is shown that experimental results were very close to the simulated ones, supporting the usefulness of the theory.

  • This study are development results of solar hot water system for anchovy proceeding. The heat amounts of boiling vessel are calculated 292.66W at forward and backward direction, and surface direction are calculated 373.14W. The polyenoic rate of anchovy are measured lower as high temperature, but monoenoic and polyacid are higher. Then the others. The maximum radiation of anchovy fishing grounds are shown $350kcal/m^2h$ at pm. 13:00, Chungdo in CHINA. Distributions of Velocity and temperature in boiling vessel are calculation. Solar collector and boiling vessel for anchovy proceeding ship are developed to automatic control system.

  • Molecular dynamics simulation is used to study the binary collisions of nanometer-sized droplets of argon in the presence of a surrounding gas. By systematically varying the droplet size, the impact parameter and the velocity of collision, the outcome of such collisions were examined and they can be classified into coalescence, separation and shattering. If one of the colliding droplets is half or less than the other in diameter, a shattering is not possible to occur. The threshold of impact parameter for a given separation was studied by adjusting the Weber number. Overall nanoscale droplets were more likely to coalesce than the macroscopic sized ones due to their high surface-to-volume ratio.

  • Corrosion is never avoided in the use of materials with various environments. The underwater hull is normally protected against rusting by several coatings of anti-corrosive paint. The purpose of ICCP(Impressed Current Cathodic protection) system is to eliminate the rusting or corrosion, which occurs on metal immersed in seawater. The anode of ICCP system is controlled by an external DC source with converter. The function of anode is to conduct the protective current into seawater. The proposed algorithm includes the harmonic suppression control strategy and the optimum protection strategy and has tried to test the requirement current density for protection, the influence of voltage, the protection potential. This paper was studied the variation of potential and current density with environment factors, time and velocity, and the experimental results will be explained.

  • Hydroelastic slamming against the wetdeck of a multihull vessel is studied numerically and experimentally. The beam equations and a two-dimensional flow model are used to find the dynamic stresses in longitudinal stiffeners between two transverse stiffeners. The largest stresses in the structure occur in the time scale of the lowest wet natural period of the beam. A simple relation between the maximum stress, the local geometry and the impact velocity of the wetdeck is established. The stresses in the wetdeck are neither sensitive to the radius of curvature of the waves nor where the waves initially hit the wetdeck. It is concluded that the maximum impact pressure should not be used to find maximum bending stresses during wetdeck slamming.

  • In solving the unsteady potential flow problem of the ship in waves with the panel method, in general one can consider the basic flow as the free stream or double body solution. For the double body solution, the body boundary condition has the 2nd derivatives of the velocity potential. Low order panel methods are known to suffer from the significant error in the 2nd derivatives computed at the body surface. This paper analyzes the numerical error in the 2nd derivatives for a 2-D cylinder and a 3-D sphere problem, and an extrapolation method to obtain the correct derivatives on the body surface is suggested.
