SYNDETIC SEQUENCES AND DYNAMICS OF OPERATORS

  • In the present paper, we show that a continuous linear operator T on a Frechet space satisfies the Hypercyclic Criterion with respect to a syndetic sequence must satisfy the Kitai Criterion. On the other hand, an operator, hereditarily hypercyclic with respect to a syndetic sequence must be mixing. We also construct weighted shift operators satisfying the Hypercyclicity Criterion which do not satisfy the Kitai Criterion. In other words, hereditarily hypercyclic operators without being mixing.

CFD를 이용한 용융탄산염 연료전지 스택의 수치모사 (Numerical Analysis of Molten Carbonate Fuel Cell Stack Using Computational Fluid Dynamics)

  • 상용 CFD 프로그램인 FLUENT v5.3을 이용하여 용융탄산염 연료전지 스택의 수치 모사를 행하였다. FLUENT에 포함되어 있는 보존식들을 이용하면서, 사용자 정의함수를 이용하여 포함시킨 코드를 통해 전기화학적 반응과 부반응인 수성가스전이반응에 의한 질량과 가스 조성 변화 및 열이동을 고려하여 정확한 계산 결과를 얻고자 하였다. 모사에 사용된 스택은 6kW급과 25kW급 스택으로 각각 20개와 40개의 단위전지를 수직으로 적층한 형태이며 스택내로 주입되는 가스는 coflow형태로 각각의 채널을 흘러가게 설계되어 있다. 모사를 통해 알아본 스택 내 압력분포는 가스 흐름방향으로 압력강하가 일어나며 anode 채널보다 cathode 채널에서의 압력차가 더 크게 나타났다. 채널 내 속도분포는 전극 반응에 의한 질량 및 부피변화로 인해 anode 채널에서는 가스흐름 방향으로 속도가 증가하는 반면 cathode 채널에서는 속도가 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 스택 내 온도분포는 가스 흐름방향으로 증가하는 경향을 보였고, 계산결과와 실험결과가 대체로 일치함을 확인할 수 있었다. 수성가스전이반응을 포함한 모델과 그렇지 않은 모델을 비교한 결과 가스의 주입구 부분에서는 수성가스전이반응에 의해 흡열 반응이, 출구 부분에서는 발열반응이 일어나고, 이로 인해 입구와 출구의 온도차가 더 커짐을 확인하였다. 따라서 상용화 스택인 수백 kW급 이상의 대형 스택을 모사하기 위해서는 수성가스전이반응을 고려해야할 것으로 생각된다.

  • Water gas shift reaction(WGSR)이 일어나는 파이럿 규모 고온반응기에서의 거동 및 성능을 예측하기 위하여 수학적 모델을 수립하고 모사를 수행하였다. 반응기의 형상, 유체 및 열 이동에 대해 상세한 모델링이 가능한 전산유체역학 기법과 공정시스템 공학에서 사용되는 공정모사 기법을 함께 사용한 multiscale 모델링 및 모사를 수행하였으며, 그 결과를 일반 공정모사와 비교하였다. Multiscale 모사를 통해 CO의 전환율은 최고 0.85, 발열반응으로 인해 충전층의 온도는 약 720 K까지 오름을 알 수 있었다. 또한 동적모사를 통해 시간에 따른 반응기내에서의 온도분포, 전환율 분포 등의 주요한 변수 및 성능들의 시간에 따른 변화를 예측할 수 있었다. Multiscale 모사 기법은 파이럿 규모의 반응기뿐 아니라 상업규모의 공정에 대해 실제 상황을 상세히 반영하여 정확한 예측이 가능하므로, 상업공정 설계에 주요한 기술로 사용될 수 있다.

Wave energy conversion utilizing vertical motion of water in the array of water chambers aligned in the direction of wave propagation

  • As a new technical approach, wave energy converter by using vertical motion of water in the multiple water chambers were developed to realize actual wave power generation as eco-environmental renewable energy. And practical use of wave energy converter was actually to require the following conditions: (1) setting up of the relevant device and its application to wave power generation in case that severe wave loading is avoided; (2) workability in installation and maintenance operations; (3) high energy conversion potential; and (4) low cost. In this system, neither the wall(s) of the chambers nor the energy conversion device(s) are exposed to the impulsive load due to water wave. Also since this system is profitable when set along the jetty or along a long floating body, installation and maintenance are done without difficulty and the cost is reduced. In this paper, we describe the system which consists of a float, a shaft connected with another shaft, a rack and pinion arrangement, a ratchet mechanism, and rotary type generator(s). Then, we present the dynamics model for evaluating the output electric power, and the results of numerical calculation including the effect of the phase shift of up/down motion of the water in the array of water chambers aligned along the direction of wave propagation.

  • The housing market is divided into several sub-markets that operate independently. One of them is the distinction between rental and sales markets. Simultaneously, since the housing is a commodity as well as an asset, it has a close relationship between the rental market and the sales market. Due to the unique structure of Korea, it is difficult to apply the general method to analyze the housing market. This means there is a great deal of concern about side effects from the policy. Actually, the government's subsequent regulation of speculative demand in the future may be necessary to prevent market overheating, but at the same time, there is a fear that the rent will rise. Although changes in policy direction may be inevitable due to changes in market conditions, frequent and sudden changes in policy cause confusion in market participants, causing unrest in the housing market. This study aims to derive main factors and correlation with other housing market factor. These factors will be a base of qualitative housing market model to analyze the market effect of the demand-supply shift. Modeling is based on the system dynamics methodology, which is useful for identifying interactions between variables reflecting various variables in the housing market. The model discussed in this study is expected to provide integrated insight into the key variables of the housing market, away from the monopolistic thinking. It can also be useful as a means of assessing the effectiveness of policies.

Dynamics of pre-shift and post-shift lung function parameters among wood workers in Ghana

  • Background: Diseases affecting the lungs and airways contribute significantly to the global burden of disease. The problem in low- and middle-income countries appears to be exacerbated by a shift in global manufacturing base to these countries and inadequate enforcement of environmental and safety standards. In Ghana, the potential adverse effects on respiratory function associated with occupational wood dust exposure have not been thoroughly investigated. Methods: Sixty-four male sawmill workers and 64 non-woodworkers participated in this study. The concentration of wood dust exposure, prevalence and likelihood of association of respiratory symptoms with wood dust exposure and changes in pulmonary function test (PFT) parameters in association with wood dust exposure were determined from dust concentration measurements, symptoms questionnaire and lung function test parameters. Results: Sawmill workers were exposed to inhalable dust concentration of 3.09 ± 0.04 mg/m3 but did not use respirators and engaged in personal grooming habits that are known to increase dust inhalation. The sawmill operators also showed higher prevalence and likelihoods of association with respiratory symptoms, a significant cross-shift decline in some PFT parameters and a shift towards a restrictive pattern of lung dysfunction by end of daily shift. The before-shift PFT parameters of woodworkers were comparable to those of non-woodworkers, indicating a lack of chronic effects of wood dust exposure. Conclusions: Wood dust exposure at the study site was associated with acute respiratory symptoms and acute changes in some PFT parameters. This calls for institution and enforcement of workplace and environmental safety policies to minimise exposure at sawmill operating sites, and ultimately, decrease the burden of respiratory diseases.

낙동강 유역 환경개선 투자 효과 분석을 위한 시스템다이내믹스 모델 (A System Dynamics Model to Analyze the Effects of Investments for Improvement of Environmental Conditions in Nak-Dong River Basin)

  • In this paper a concept of the paradigm shift in the operations of Water and Wastewater systems regarding the production and usage of water was introduced. Based on this concept the interrelationships between the water quality in the upper basin of NakDong River relative to Busan and the degree of satisfaction of the customers on the water supply service in Busan were modeled using the System Dynamics modeling methodology. SamRangJin basin area was determined as the upper basin of Busan after analyzing the relationships between the water quality of MoolGeum water intake point and water quality data of various mid- and upper water intake points along NakDong River. The amount of contaminants generated in SamRangJin basin was modeled using the Gross Regional Domestic Product in the area and the treated amount was calculated using the efficiency of wastewater treatment and the degree of improvement of environmental condition per investment. The water quality at MoolGeum water intake point was modeled to take the effects of the remaining amount of contaminants after treatment and the non-point source contaminants in SamRangJin basin. Using the developed System Dynamics model the effects of the investment for the improvement of environmental condition in SamRangJin basin were compared to the case of alternate water source development for Busan in terms of the degree of satisfaction of the customers on the water supply service in Busan.

  • Most of tractors in the world have manual gear transmission, and some of small tractors have hydrostatic trans-mission(HST). Since the HST is expensive and has low power efficiency, it is being used for only small garden tractors. The continuously variable transmission(CVT) is an alternative to the HST or power-shift gear transmissions. The driver of the CVT tractor doesn't have to operate a shift lever since the CVT controller automatically controls the speed of tractor. Thus, it is much easier to operate the CVT tractor. For the easy and stable control of the CVT tractor, an appropriate control algorithm should be developed and the dynamic modeling should be carried out before making the prototype of CVT controller. This study was conducted to develop a simulation model of the CVT control system needed to develop a PID control algorithm. The simulation model consisted of variator dynamics, hydraulic system and control computer. And the simulation model was verified by experiment. The results obtained in this study can be utilized in the design of CVT tractors for practical use, but a lot of field tests and improvement of softwares would be necessary.

[ $^{11}B$ ] Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Study of Spin Structures in Terbium Tetraboride

  • [ $^{11}B$ ] nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements were performed on the single crystals of $TbB_4$ to investigate local electronic structure and 4f spin dynamics. $^{11}B$ NMR spectrum, Knight shift, spin-lattice and spin-spin relaxation rates were measured down to 4K at 8T. $^{11}B$ NMR shift and linewidth are huge and strongly temperature dependent due to the 4f moments. In addition, both are proportional to magnetic susceptibility, indicating that the hyperfine field at the boron site originates from the 4f spins of Tb. Below $T_N$, the single broad resonance peak of $^{11}B$ NMR splits into several peaks reflecting the local magnetic fields due to antiferromagnetic spin arrangements. The longitudinal and the transverse relaxation rates, $1/T_1\;and\;1/T_2$, independent of temperature above $T_N$, decreases tremendously confirming huge suppression of spin fluctuation below $T_N$.

Water Gas Shift Reaction을 위한 Multi-tubular Reactor 모델링 및 모사 (Rigorous Modeling and Simulation of Multi-tubular Reactor for Water Gas Shift Reaction)

  • 공정변수의 변화와 반응기의 성능을 정확하게 예측하기 위하여 Water Gas Shift Reaction(WGSR)을 위한 Multi-Tubular Reactor (MTR)의 상세 multiscale 모델링과 모사를 수행하였다. MTR은 비 균일 고체 촉매로 충진 된 4개의 관형반응기와 냉각을 위해 주변을 싸고 있는 shell side로 구성되어 있다. 유체의 흐름과 반응 kinetics가 반응기 성능에 큰 영향을 주고 있는 점을 고려할 때, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)기법과 공정모델링 기법을 포함한 multiscale 방법론의 채택은 자연스럽고 필수 불가결한 일이다. $345^{\circ}C$로 관형반응기 부분으로 유입된 반응물은 반응의 결과 $390^{\circ}C$$45^{\circ}C$가량 온도가 증가하였으며, CO의 전환율은 0.89에 이르렀다. 쉘 사이드로 $190^{\circ}C$로 유입된 유체는 쉘 출구에서 $240^{\circ}C$로 약 $50^{\circ}C$ 가량의 온도 증가를 보였으며 이를 통하여 에너지 절감효과를 가져 올 수 있었으며 높은 전환율을 얻기 위해 반응기 부분의 온도를 적절히 제어할 수 있었다. 모사의 결과는 여러 문헌에 보고된 실험 결과와 매우 근접한 값을 나타내 본 연구를 통해 제시된 모델과 모사의 결과가 정확함을 알 수 있었다.
