The possibility of new GMAW process using economic shielding gases including CO$_{2}$ gas was investigated on the effect of shielding gas on weldabilty. In the optimum welding condition using 600A power source, FCAW process showed low depositions rate, 114 g/min at 300A, but new GMAW using other mixed shielding gases exhibited high deposition rate, 208-224 g/min at 450A. TIME gas, Ar+CO$_{2}$ gas and Ar+CO$_{2}$+O$_{2}$ gas as a shielding gas were able to be used to the very high welding current(450A), moreover TIME gas and Ar+CO$_{2}$ gas showed the highest arc stability among shielding gases studied in this experiments. The weld penetration was performed by axial spray transfer mode of weld droplet. On the basis of workability, weldability and economic point of view, Ar mixture (80%Ar+20%CO$_{2}$) gas was recommended as a shielding gas for the development and application of new GMAW process. This shielding gas showed the low spatter, good weld quality, stable arc and low cost at the region of high welding current.
Laser-gas metal arc hybrid welding has been considered as an alternative process of gas metal arc welding for offshore pipe laying. Fiber delivered high power lasers which enable deep penetration welding were recently developed but high power welding characteristics were not fully understood yet. In this study, the influence of shielding gas composition on welding phenomena in high power laser welding was investigated. Bead shapes, melt ejection and dropping were observed after autogenous laser welding with 100% Ar, Ar-20% $CO_2$, Ar-50% $CO_2$, and 100% $CO_2$ shielding gas. Process parameter window was widest with Ar-50% $CO_2$ shielding gas and the penetration was deepest with 100% $CO_2$ shielding gas. The melt dropping was not observed when Ar-50% $CO_2$ or 100% $CO_2$ shielding gas was supplied.

In order to improve the electromagnetic shielding rate of Carbon Fiber (CF), it was produced using the nickel nano-powder impregnating method. Using two types of nickel powder having thicknesses of 50 ㎛ and 100 ㎛, and a thermoplastic elastomer resin, a compound containing 10-20% nickel content was mixed and then manufactured through an extruder. The CF coated with the compound was woven and manufactured using a 1-ply specimen. The final nickel content of the specimen was verified using TGA and the distribution of nickel powder on the CF surface was verified using SEM. The metal shows a high shielding rate in the low-frequency band, but the shielding rate decreases at higher-frequency bands. The CF improves at the higher frequency band, and metals reflect electromagnetic waves while carbon absorbs electromagnetic waves. The study of shielding materials, which are stronger and lighter than metal, by using CF lighter than metal and enabling the shielding rate from low-frequency band to high-frequency band, confirmed that the larger the area coated with nickel nano-powder, the better the electromagnetic shielding performance. In particular, CF coated with a thickness of 100 ㎛ has a shielding rate similar to that of copper and can also be used for EV/HEV automotive cables and other applications in the future.
Recently, radiation shielding sheets made of eco-friendly materials have been widely used in medical institutions. The shielding sheet is processed into a solid form by thermoforming by mixing a shielding material with a polymer material. The base is resin-based and has a limit in tensile strength, and for this purpose, fibers such as non-woven fabrics are used on the surface. The shielding sheet process technology has a problem in that the tensile strength rapidly decreases when the content of the shielding material is increased to increase the shielding performance. In order to improve this, this study intends to compare and evaluate the method of laminating and coating the fibers in the sheet process. In comparison of the three types of sheets, there was no difference in shielding performance between the fiber-coated sheet and the compression sheet, but there was a large difference in tensile strength.

A military shelter for communication and information is necessary to optimize the integrated combat ability of weapon systems in the network centric warfare. Therefore, the military shelter is required for EMI shielding performance. This study examines the stable measurement points for EMI shielding effectiveness of a military shelter for communication and information. The measurement points were found by analyzing the EMI shielding effectiveness measurement data with data mining technique and process capability analysis. First, a support vector machine was used to separate the measurement point that has stable EMI shielding effectiveness according to set condition. Second, this process was conducted with process capability analysis. Finally, the results of data mining technique were compared with those of process capability analysis. As a result, 24 measurement points with stable EMI shielding effectiveness were found.

The welds tent to be weakened if it is exposed to the air during the welding process. In titanium welding with Gas Tungsten Arc Welding, inappropriate colors of the welds, such as purple/red, blue, yellow, gray, white and pink represents that it is contaminated by oxygen and nitrogen in the air. Shielding gases can be used to protect welds from the contamination. In addition, Weld metal and heat affected zone (HAZ) are also shielded from the air when it is cooled down to the room temperature. In this paper, appropriate shielding gases for the shape and form of Trailing Shielding Jig and torch shielding ($13{\sim}20{\ell}/min$), after shielding ($22{\sim}30{\ell}/min$), and back shielding ($25{\sim}30{\ell}/min$) are studied.

This study investigated electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness (SE) of hybrid conductive fabrics. The coaxial transmission line method was used to measure the EMI Shielding effectiveness of the conductive fabrics. We designed and constructed a measuring system, consisting of a network analyzer and a device that serves as a sample holder and at the same time as a transmission medium of incident electromagnetic waves. The measurements of SE were carried out in a frequency range from 100 MHz to 2 GHz. The results of the EMI shielding experiments showed that the maximum electromagnetic shielding effectiveness (EMSE) values of sandwich type C/A/C (carbon fiber sheet/aluminum foil tape/carbon fiber sheet) and C/Ni/C (carbon fiber sheet/magnetic shielding foil/carbon fiber sheet) samples were 55 dB and 113 dB, respectively, at a frequency of 1.9 GHz.
For the continuous operation of a nuclear reactor, burnt fuel needs to be replaced with fresh fuel, where appropriate (ex-vessel) fuel handling is required. Particularly for the Sodium-cooled Fast Reactor (SFR) refueling, its process has unique challenges due to liquid sodium coolant. The ex-vessel spent fuel transportation should concern several design features such as the radiation shielding, decay-heat removal, and inert space separated from air. This paper proposes a new design optimization methodology of cask shielding to transport the spent fuel assembly in a prototype SFR for the first time. The Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm had been applied to design trade-offs between shielding and cask weight. The cask is designed as a double-cylinder structure to block an inert sodium region from the air-cooling space. The PSO process yielded the optimum shielding thickness of 26 cm, considering the weight as well. To confirm the shielding performance, the radiation dose of spent fuel removed at its peak burnup and after 1-year cooling was calculated. Two different fuel positions located during transportation were also investigated to consider a functional disorder in a cask drive system. This study concludes the current cask design in normal operations is satisfactory in accordance with regulatory rules.

This study shows the process design and forming analysis of permalloy shielding can that support the automobile multi-display parts to indicate the accurate information of car. This study is particularly important, since the accuracy of permalloy shielding can is known to affect the magnetic properties such as coercivity and permeability quite sensitively. The objective functions are defects such as hemming wind, hemming length, hemming wrap and tightness in prehemming process. The pre-hemming angle is considered as design parameter. The commercial finite element program PAM-STAMP™ was used to simulate the pre-hemming and hemming process. The ANN (Artificial Neural Network) has been implemented for minimizing of objective function and for investigating effect of punch angle relevant to the pre-hemming process. The results of analysis to validate the proposed design method are presented.
Radiation shields used in medical institutions mainly use lead to manufacture products and fitments. Although lead has excellent processability and economic efficiency, its use is being reduced due to environmental issues when it is disposed of. In addition, when used for a long time, there is a limit to using it as a shielding film, shielding wall, medical device parts, etc. due to cracking and sagging due to gravity. To solve this problem, copper, tin, etc. are used, but tungsten is mostly used because there is a difficulty in the manufacturing process to control the shielding performance. However, it is difficult to compare with other shielding materials because the characteristics according to the type of tungsten are not well presented. Therefore, in this study, a medical radiation shielding sheet was manufactured in the same process using pure tungsten, tungsten carbide, and tungsten oxide, and the particle composition and shielding performance of the sheet cross-section were compared. As a result of comparison, it was found that the shielding performance was excellent in the order of pure tungsten, tungsten carbide, and tungsten oxide.
