In this study, we produced heat-shield coating materials using surface-treated Ga-doped ZnO (GZO) and investigated the dispersity of particle, visible light transmittance, ultraviolet light cut off, infrared light cut-off, heat-shielding property by surface-treating compounds and treatment conditions. In the case of using IPA or acryl binder for heat-shield coating, the dispersity of inorganic oxide particles was poor but in the case of using surface-treated inorganic oxide particles by hybrid compound having urethane (urea) group, acryl group and silica, dispersity of particle, visible light transmittance and haze were improved. We used the measurement kit and sunlamp for measuring heat-shielding property and confirmed that the internal temperature of the measurement kit using heat-shield film was lower more than $4.8^{\circ}C$ in comparison with using PET film for itself.

Tunnel boring machines combined with the earth pressure balanced shield method (EPB shield TBMs) have been adopted in urban areas as they allow excavation of tunnels with limited ground deformation through continuous and repetitive excavation and support. Nevertheless, the expansion of TBM construction requires much more minor and exquisitely controlled surface settlement to prevent economic loss. Several parametric studies controlling the tunnel's geometry, ground properties, and TBM operational factors assuming ordinary conditions for EPB shield TBM excavation have been conducted, but the impact of excessive excavation on the induced settlement has not been adequately studied. This study conducted a numerical evaluation of surface settlement induced by the ground loss from face imbalance, excessive excavation, and tail void grouting. The numerical model was constructed using FLAC3D and validated by comparing its result with the field data from literature. Then, parametric studies were conducted by controlling the ground stiffness, face pressure, tail void grouting pressure, and additional volume of muck discharge. As a result, the contribution of these operational factors to the surface settlement appeared differently depending on the ground stiffness. Except for the ground stiffness as the dominant factor, the order of variation of surface settlement was investigated, and the volume of additional muck discharge was found to be the largest, followed by the face pressure and tail void grouting pressure. The results from this study are expected to contribute to the development of settlement prediction models and understanding the surface settlement behavior induced by TBM excavation.

Hardware attacks involve physical reverse engineering efforts to steal sensitive information, such as encryption keys and circuit designs. Encryption and obfuscation are representative countermeasures, but they are nullified if adversaries manage to find the key. To address this issue, we propose e-Cryptex, which utilizes a Physically Unclonable Function (PUF) as an anti-tampering shield. PUF acts as a random number generator and relies on unique physical variants that cannot be replicated or restored to enhance anti-tampering mechanisms. e-Cryptex uses PUF as a shield to protect the system's structure and generate the key. Tampering with the shield will result in the destruction of the key. This paper demonstrates that e-Cryptex meets PUF security requirements and is effective in detecting of tampering attempts that pierce or completely destroy the shield. Each board consistently generates the same key under normal conditions, while also showing key uniqueness across different boards.

The EPB (Earth Pressure Balanced) shield TBM method restrains the ground deformation through continuous excavation and support. Still, the significant surface settlement occurs due to the ground conditions, tunnel dimensions, and construction conditions. Therefore, it is necessary to clarify the settlement behavior with its influence factors and evaluate the possible settlement during construction. In this study, the analytical model of surface settlement based on the influence factors and their mechanisms were proposed. Then, the parametric study for controllable factors during excavation was conducted by numerical method. Through the numerical analysis, the settlement behavior according to the construction conditions was quantitatively derived. Then, the qualitative trend according to the ground conditions was visualized by coupling the numerical results with the analytical model of settlement. Based on the results of this study, it is expected to contribute to the derivation of the settlement prediction algorithm for EPB shield TBM excavation.

In this study, model test equipment was developed to evaluate the hydraulic pressure reduction in appling the drainage shield tunnel and the model test for hydraulic pressure difference was performed in case of drainage and undrained conditions. In the result of model test, increase ratio of pore water pressure was decreased in drainage condition and total stress in drainage condition was smaller than that in undrained condition, so the hydraulic pressure was reduced by the groundwater inflow into the model tunnel. In the result of field instrumentation, the hydraulic pressure in the back ground of shield tunnel was small by 11~22% in comparison with the calculated hydraulic pressure ($r_w{\cdot}H$) in same groundwater level. In the result of model test and field instrumentation, it was appeared in drainage and undrained conditions that the difference between the theoretical hydraulic pressure and the real hydraulic pressure. It shows that it is possible to apply the reduced hydraulic pressure in applying the drainage shield tunnel and to reduce the segment section due to hydraulic pressure reduction.

In many countries, most of the tunneling works have been ordered by the shield TBM, and also Korean companies are actively bidding and execute in this project. In case of Korea, refurbished machines are mainly using in power cable, gas pipelines, and water and sewage tunnel. Also in metro projects, shield TBM of over diameter 7m is required mainly by using brand new machine. Since the shield TBM is not easy to change once it is produced, it is necessary for the client to provide sufficient information on the production conditions so as to satisfy various characteristics of the construction. In this study, to manufacturing optimal shield TBM, the Client's TBM requirements of tunnel construction in Hong Kong and UK was analyzed and compared with the domestic requirements. The results are expected to provide as client's guidelines for bidding stage and manufacturing for shield TBM tunneling in Korea in the future.

Mechanized tunneling methods, including shield TBM, have been increasingly used for tunnel construction because of their relatively low vibration and noise levels as well as low risk of rock-falling accidents. In the excavation using the shield TBM, it is important to design penetration rate appropriately. In present study, both subsurface investigation data and shield TBM excavation data, produced for and during ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}{\sim}{\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ high-speed railway construction, were analyzed and used to compare with shield TBM penetration rates calculated using existing penetrating rate prediction models proposed by several foreign researchers. The correlation between thrust force per disk cutter and uniaxial compressive strength was also examined and, based on the correlation analysis, a simple prediction model for penetration rate was derived. The prediction results using the existing prediction models showed approximately error rates of 50~500%, whereas the results from the simple model proposed from this study showed an error rate of 15% in average. It may be said, therefore, that the proposed model has higher applicability for shield TBM construction in similar ground conditions.

We have studied on welding dissimilar materials of Carbon steel SCP1-S by using laser beam. In this research we have performed some experiments to know the possibility of welding dissimilar materials using laser beam and magnetic fields by adjusting the power output of 35W laser. Other conditions of the experiments were as follows : the welding speed was varied in the range 10 m/min nitrogen gas was used as shield gas, the flow value of shield gas was ranged 10 L/min. In order to ascertain of the welded surface, we have done the tensile strength testing, the hardness testing and the microscope observation. As a result, we have found that tensile strength was the highest at the condition of the welding speed of 10mm/s, the flow value of 10 L/min, the gap of two materials 0, and the use of nitrogen gas. Above testings have also showed that the tensile strength was generally satisfactory since the penetration of welding was almost complete due to the thinness of the materials. In addition, the formation of the welded area was excellent when it had the highest tensile strength.
A disc cutter is an excavation tool on a tunnel boring machine (TBM) cutterhead; it crushes and cuts rock mass while the machine excavates using the cutterhead's rotational movement. Disc cutter wear occurs naturally. Thus, along with the management of downtime and excavation efficiency, abrasioned disc cutters need to be replaced at the proper time; otherwise, the construction period could be delayed and the cost could increase. The most common prediction models for TBM performance and for the disc cutter lifetime have been proposed by the Colorado School of Mines and Norwegian University of Science and Technology. However, design parameters of existing models do not well correspond to the field values when a TBM encounters complex and difficult ground conditions in the field. Thus, this study proposes a series of machine learning models to predict the disc cutter lifetime of a shield TBM using the excavation (machine) data during operation which is response to the rock mass. This study utilizes five different machine learning techniques: four types of classification models (i.e., K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Support Vector Machine, Decision Tree, and Staking Ensemble Model) and one artificial neural network (ANN) model. The KNN model was found to be the best model among the four classification models, affording the highest recall of 81%. The ANN model also predicted the wear rate of disc cutters reasonably well.

Radiological impact analyses were carried out for a near-surface radioactive waste repository at Gyeongju in South Korea. The RESRAD-ONSITE code was applied for the estimation of maximum exposure doses by considering various exposure pathways based on a land area of 2,500 ㎡ with a 0.15 m thick contamination zone. Typical influencing input parameters such as shield depth, shield materials' density, and shield erosion rate were examined for a sensitivity analysis. Then both residential farmer and industrial worker scenarios were used for the estimation of maximum exposure doses depending on exposure duration. The radiation dose evaluation results showed that 60Co, 137Cs, and 63Ni were major contributors to the total exposure dose compared with other radionuclides. Furthermore, the total exposure dose from ingestion (plant, meat, and milk) of the contaminated plants was more significant than those assessed for inhalation, with maximum values of 5.5×10-4 mSv·yr-1 for the plant ingestion. Thus the results of this study can be applied for determining near-surface radioactive waste repository conditions and providing quantitative analysis methods using RESRAD-ONSITE code for the safety assessment of disposing radioactive materials including decommissioning wastes to protect human health and the environment.
