  • This paper improves Sherman's two-pulse method for angle estimation of two unresolved targets in phase comparison monopulse radar. The proposed method provides the angle information with only a single-pulse measurement instead of two pulses. The proposed method can estimate a single-target angle by single-target indicator, in contrast with previous techniques. The accuracy of angle estimation for proposed method is demonstrated by simulations.

  • As a society gets digitalized, world of simulation will expand. The world of simulation is a forced, human-making world where we are going on our lives. It is power that dominates human beings. It is a main discourse producing forces. We are using violence to ourselves to escape this forcing phenomenon. Cindy Sherman is being paid attention as an artist who expresses physical human being in the world of simulation - human who desires something, is sacrificed by violence and is using violence to himself. She is casting a question about the violence of power in the world - who are you right now in the border between the real world and the fake one? - Her method is by various symbols: masks and makeup in her works, human desires and violent realities in symbolic packages. Only when we see the world as flesh, that is a specific body, not as separated organs, can this world be something we can feel. This world is something simulacre and at the same time is bearing violence in it. She sacrifices herself to violence to avoid the very violence. This behavior is to refine or avoid gigantic violence. She is saying that the others' pains, birth and death of flowers are not only theirs but also ours.

  • Four algorithms for damage detection of trusses are presented in this paper. These approaches can detect damage by using both complete and incomplete measurements. The suggested methods are based on the minimization of the difference between the measured and analytical static responses of structures. A non-linear constrained optimization problem is established to estimate the severity and location of damage. To reach the responses, the successive quadratic method is used. Based on the objective function, the stiffness matrix of the truss should be estimated and inverted in the optimization procedure. The differences of the proposed techniques are rooted in the strategy utilized for inverting the stiffness matrix of the damaged structure. Additionally, for separating the probable damaged members, a new formulation is proposed. This scheme is employed prior to the outset of the optimization process. Furthermore, a new tactic is presented to select the appropriate load pattern. To investigate the robustness and efficiency of the authors' method, several numerical tests are performed. Moreover, Monte Carlo simulation is carried out to assess the effect of noisy measurements on the estimated parameters.

  • Objective : This study was designed to examine the effects of orally administered Prunus persica water extract (PPE), which is used as herbal medicine, for treatment of Yu Xue (stasis of blood) and tacrine on the basal concentration of extracellular acetylcholine in the hippocampus of rats. Methods: To investigate the effects of PPE and tacrine on concentration of extracellular acetylcholine in the hippocampus of rats, the microdialysis technique, under the same experimental conditions, was used. And we used male Wistar rats which were 7 weeks of age and 210-290 g. PPE was extracted with boiling water, and the rats were anesthetized with pentobarbital Na. Their skulls were exposed and a hole was drilled for implantation of a microdialysis probe. In order to increase the recovery of acetylcholine, a probe with a long membrane was used. One day after surgery, the microdialysis probe was perfused with Ringer's solution at a flow rate of 1.5 l/min. The acetylcholine concentration in dialysis samples was measured by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with electrochemical detection. AChE activity was measured using the radiometric method, as described by Sherman. Results : The comparative effects of PPE and tacrine on hippocampal extracellular acetylcholine concentration was that these cholinesterase inhibitors produced dose-dependent increases in the extracellular acetylcholine concentration. And the effect of PPE and tacrine on rat brain AChE activity was that PPE produced maximal inhibition at 1 h after administration, when AChE activity was 44% of the intact level. AChE activity gradually recovered thereafter, and reached 78% of the intact level at 12 h after administration. Conclusion : In this study, PPE has a potent activity and a long-lasting effect on the central cholinergic system, in terms of the basal concentration of extracellular acetylcholine in the hippocampus and the AChE activity in the brain of rats. And oral administration of PPE increased dose-dependently the basal concentration of extracellular acetylcholine in the hippocampus of rats. PPE may be one of the more useful cholinesterase inhibitors for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease.

  • The characteristic of rainfall intensity in short duration is very important to calculate short-term runoff in small watershed by Rational method. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to derive the most proper formula on the probable rainfall intensity in each return period in Daejeon area. And the results of this study could be utilized for the design of drainage-structures in small watershed, drainage system in urban area and flood control in small river basin. The result s of this study are summerized as follows. 1. Gumbel-Chow method which shows the mean value was chosen to calculate the probable rainfall in tensity in each return periods. 2. According to statistical judgement, probable rainfall intensity formula of Japanese type($I={\frac{a}{t+b}}$, see Table-6) shows the most proper one among other types of formula like Talbot type, Sherman type and Characteristic coefficient method. Probable rainfall in tensity value of Japanese type in Daejeon area shows well coincidence with the one obtained by applying prof. Park's n-coefficient to Monobe formula $I=({\frac{R_{24}}{24}})({\frac{T}{t}})^{0.5486}$. On the other hand, the value by Monobe formula with n-coefficient of 2/3 which is being used as a disign criterison by M. O. C. shows large difference from the fore-mentioned results (see Table-7). Consequently the value by Monobe formula might be judged that it is too much overestimated one as a design criterion. 3. Short-term runoff in small water shed could be calculated more reasonably in Daejeon area through this probable rainfall in tensity formula.
