The effect of silica binder content on the mechanical properties of zircon shell mold was investigated. Content of binder silica sol to refractory powder in weight[$R_W$] was adjusted from 0.18 to 0.43. Sintering of the shell mold was carried out in the temperature range of $871^{\circ}C$ to $1400^{\circ}C$. Green strength of the shell mold at room temperature increased with increasing $R_W$ and sintering temperature up to $1300^{\circ}C$. However, the mold with $R_W$ of 0.43 that sintered at $1400^{\circ}C$ for 3 hours showed relatively low strength and large level of porosity. The mechanical behavior of the shells is supposed to attributed to the difference in thermal expansion coefficient between refractory powder and binder silica. The optimum value of $R_W$ for zircon-based shell molds was found to be 0.33.

The effects of mold variable and main alloying element on the mechanical properties of ductile cast iron poured into shell stack mold were investigated. The strength and hardness of with the smaller cross-section of the diameter of 6.25mm were higher than those of 12.50mm. On the other hand, the elongation of the former was lower than that of the latter. The strength and hardness of the specimens obtained from the center layer in the 5-story stack mold were the lowest and those for other specimens were increased with increased distance from the center. The elongation of those were the highest of all. The strength and hardness of the specimens obtained from the center layer were decreased the elongation was increased with the increased number of layers. The strength and hardness were increased and the elongation was decreased roughly with the increased amounts of reaidual magnesium and carbon content added, respectively. The strength and hardness were increased and the elongation was decreased roughly with the increased amounts of silicon content added to 2.45wt% and rather decreased with that to 2.85wt%. The effect of silicon content showed the opposite tendency to those of residual magnesium and carbon content.

The efect of A1 addition and sintering condition on mutization behavior between alumina and silica in alumina-based shell mold was investigated. A1 addition and high sintering temperature increased the degree of mullitization between alumina/silica but decreased the room temperature strentgh of the shell molds. It was identified that the sintered strength of the shell molds was in range of 2.0~2.6kg/$\textrm{mm}^2$. Al addition suppressed deflection of the shell molds at high temperature. Especially, no deflection was observed in the specimen which was sintered at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 1hr with 2.5wt% Al. The specimen sintered at $1500^{\circ}C$ for 4hrs with no Al addition also displayed no deflection.
The effects of melting and casting conditions on cast structures of Cu-Sn-Pb alloys were studied. Specimens were prepared at different pouring temperatures of $1100^{\circ}C$ to $1260^{\circ}C$ with use of various kind of molds, green sand mold, $CO_2$ sand mold, shell mold, furan sand mold and metallic mold. (1) The transition of equiaxed to columnar structure greatly influenced by adding elements and mold binders. (2) The change of equiaxed structure according to pouring temperatures were expressed by separation theory. Lower pouring temperature and rapid cooling rate increase hardness and it's further increase was shown in the region of columnar structure. (3) Proper controls of pouring temperature, cooling rate and mold binder were important factors to improve wear properties of Cu-Sn-Pb alloys castings.

In this study, the measurement of FN (ferrite volume fraction) and the solution annealing ratio at a temperature of $1130^{\circ}C$ were determined with 15A elbow fittings of shell cast SSC13, and the corrosion resistance with and without austenitizing solution annealing were investigated in comparison with AISI304. The delta ferrite phase was observed in the material due to the slow cooling effect of the shell mold casting. However, the delta ferrite phase decreased gradually with the solution annealing at a temperature of $1130^{\circ}C$. The hardness generally decreased with a heat treatment; however, its corrosion resistance was improved with the heat treatment. In addition, when a passivation treatment was applied, its corrosion ratio showed the lowest value. The pattern of general corrosion decreased due to the decrease in the delta ferrite phase with the solution annealing treatment. Consequently, it is suggested that the corrosion resistance of SSC13 elbow fittings can be improved by increasing the ratio of any solution annealing treatment used and by decreasing the ferrite phase. The relationship between the ratio of solution annealing and delta ferrite is expressed as follows: SA (solution annealing ratio,%) = 98 - FN (ferrite volume fraction, %).

The maximum speed and pressure distribution close to a warhead are altered based on the warhead shape, thereby resulting in changes to the flight distance and the destructive power. In this study, flow analysis was carried out based on the warhead shell shape. The maximum flow rate was detected at the side of shell, with a lower flow rate being found at the rear of the shell. In addition, the maximum pressure was detected at the warhead. It was also found that the reduction in the flow rate between the rear and the side of the shell in model A was smaller than that in model B. The obtained results are expected to be useful in the future design of shell warhead shape.
In general, hot metal castings contract and molds expand during the cooling step of a casting process. Therefore, it is important to consider both the casting and mold at the same time in a casting process analysis. For a more accurate analysis that includes the contact characteristics, matching each node of the casting and mold in the contact area is recommended. However, it is very difficult to match the nodes of the casting and the mold when generating elements due to the geometric problem of CAD model data. The present study proposes a mesh generation technique that considers mechanical contact between the casting and the mold in a casting analysis (finite element analysis). The technique focuses on the fact that the mold surrounds the casting. After generating the 3D elements for the casting, the surface elements of the casting in contact with the mold are projected inside the mold to create contact elements that coincide with the contact surface of the casting. It was confirmed that high-quality contact element information and a 3D element net can be automatically generated by the method proposed in this study.
Restriking method is to add to process in order to get the correct size and high precision accuracy of product which is formed in pre-process. This method is widely used at bending work and drawing work. Restriking die is particularly design and used as restriking process is performed. Therefore, production cost is increasing as one process or a two process are added. In this paper, punches and die block of square shell drawing die which could be performed drawing work and restriking process by using only one die are designed in order to solve these factors. The structure of sectional die which can integrate drawing die and restriking die was developed.
A three-dimensional model was developed in order to simulate heat and fluid flow of a continuous casting billet. The model was coded with the general-purpose CFD program FIDAP, using the finite element method. The present model consists of 2 individual calculation schemes, named model 1 and model 2. Mold region only was calculated to check the pouring stream through submerged nozzle with model 1. Entire region, which consists of mold, secondary cooling, radiation cooling was calculated to predict crater end position, temperature profile and solid shell profile(model 2). Standard $k-{\bullet}\hat{A}$ turbulence model has been applied to simulate the turbulent flow induced by submerged nozzle. Enthalpy method was adopted for the latent heat of solidification. Fluid flow in mushy zone was treated using variable viscosity approach. The more casting speed and superheat increased, the more metallurgical length increased. The shell thickness at the mold exit is proved to be mainly controlled by superheat by the present simulation. It may be concluded that the present model can be successfully applied far the prediction of heat and fluid flow behavior in the continuous casting process.

The effects of Alloying Element and Heat Treatment on the mechanical properties of ductile cast iron poured into shell stack molds were investigated. The strength and hardness were increased and the elongation was decreased roughly with the increased amounts of tin and copper added, respectively. Those were greatly increased with the increased amount of tin added and the elongation was roughly decreased with it. In the simultaneous addition of copper and tin, the strength and hardness of the tin increased, but the elongation rate decreased. Those were greatly increased and this was decreased with normalizing. In the case of specimens with smaller section sizes during austempering processing, the strength and hardness were higher than those with larger sections, but the elongation rate was lower.
