Fine blanking can be considered as a manufacturing process capable of producing sheet metal parts with completely smooth edges that may be hardly obtained by conventional shear-cutting procedures. This fact, together with the considerable economic advantages offered by this process, has been responsible for the rapid acceptance of fine blanking throughout the manufacturing industry all over the world, and the discovery of many new applications. This study was performed to investigate the effect of clearance and V-ring shape on the quality of sheared surface in a fine blanking process. The critical value needed to apply the normalized Cockcroft-Latham fracture criterion to the simulation of fine blanking is obtained by correlating the result of finite element analysis and that of experiment for the uniaxial tensile test. From finite element analysis of an axisymmetric fine blanking process, it has been found that punch load, die-roll depth, burnish zone size and shape of sheared surface are considerably influenced by clearance and V-ring shape.

An experimental study was carried out in a channel cavity with square heat surface by visual¬ization equipment with Mach - Zehnder interferometer and laser apparatus. The image processing system consists of one commercial image board slit into a personal computer and 2-dimensional sheet light by Argon-Ion Laser with cylindrical lens and flow picture recording system. Instant simultaneous velocity vectors at whole field were measured by 2-D PIV system which adopted two¬frame grey-level cross correlation algorithm. Heat source was uniform heat flux(o.4W/cm$^2$, , O.8W/cm$^2$, 1.2W/cm$^2$). Obtained result showed various flow patterns such as kinetic energy distribution. Severe unsteady flow fluctuation within the cavity are remarkable and sheared mixing layer phenomena are also found at the region where inlet flow is collided with the counter-clockwise rotating main primary vortex. Photographs of Mach ~ Zehnder are also compared in terms of constant heat flux.

Lithium ion batteries are generally manufactured by laser and etching using aluminum thin sheet. These processes are relatively expensive and have low productivity. In this study, blanking process of aluminum thin sheet for lithium ion battery was employed to replace laser cutting and etching process, all to reduce the production cost and improve productivity. Mechanical properties for aluminum and coating were determined by experimental results and rule of mixture for FE analysis of blanking process. Normalized Cockcroft-Latham criteria was also applied to describe shear behavior and critical damage values were determined by comparison of analytical and experimental result. We performed FE analysis to investigate the effects of clearance and punch-die radius on sheared surface of aluminum thin sheet and to determine optimal process condition. We manufactured the die set using the determined optimal process and conducted an experiment to confirm the feasibility of blanking process. The sheared surface of manufactured product was observed by optical microscope. As a results, the proposed process conditions successfully achieved the dimensional requirement in production of lithium ion battery parts.
Bovine aortic smooth muscle cells cultured on the slide glass were exposed to sheared flow up to 120 hours in flow chamber to see the effect of shear stress on cell growth in wall shear stresses of 0 to 26dyn/$cm^2$. From lactate dehydrogenase concentration measurement of the circulating medium, it was shown that sheared flow in the shear stress range did not remove additional smooth muscle cells from the slide glass compared with cells in stationary condition. According to smooth muscle cell counting per$cm^2$ of the surface, smooth muscle cells grew fastest in the stationary condition. As the wall shear stress increased, the growth of cells became slower. When the wall shear stress increased over 17dyn/$cm^2$, cell growth was not observed throughout the experiment.

A 3-D vision system is developed to evaluate blanks' line up and monitor gap and thickness difference between blanks in tailored blank welding system. A structured lighting method is used for 3-D vision recognition. Images of sheared portion in blanks are irregular according to roughness of blank surface, shape of sheared geometry and blurring. It is difficult to get accurate and reliable informations in the case of using binary image processing or contour detection techniques in real time for such images. We propoe a new energy integration method robust to blurring and changes of illumination. The method is computationally simple, and uses feature restoration concept, different to another digital image restoration methods which aim image itself restoration and may be used in conventional applications using structured line lighting technique. Experimental results show this system measuring repeatability is .+-. pixel for gap and thickness difference in static and dynamic tests. The data are expected to be useful for preview gap control.

Blanking process is widely used fur producing various structural parts. However, fine blanking technology is frequently used as a single step blanking operation with clean cut surface of a sheared surface because the fractured surface of parts causes serious problems in the final product and therefore it must be removed by the post-processing in case of the conventional blanking. In the present investigation, a fine blanking process was designed within the framework of progressive die to produce a carrier plate assembled within the auto transmission. Finite element analysis of the shearing behavior at the respective stage of the progressive fine blanking was conducted to validate the designed die parameters. Finally the designed progressive fine blanking process was experimentally evaluated by using the machined die.

A numerical formulation is developed to solve the linear three-dimensional hydrodynamic equations which describes wind induced flows in a homogeneous shelf sea. The hydmdynamic equations are at the outset separated into two systems. namely, an equation containing the gradient of sea surface elevation and the mean flow (external mode) and an equation describing the deviation from the mean flow (internal mode). The Galerkin method is then applied to the internal mode equation. The eigenvalues are determined from the eigenvalue problem involving the vertical eddy viscosity subject to a homogeneous boundary condition at the surface and a sheared boundary condition at the sea bed. The model is tested in a one-dimensional channel with uniform depth under a steady, uniform wind. The analytical velocity profile by Cooper and Pearce (1977) using a constant vertical eddy viscosity in channels of infinite and finite length is chosen as a benchmark solution. The model is also tested in a homogeneous, rectangular basin with constant depth under a steady, uniform wind field (the Heaps' Basin of the North Sea scale).
The purposes of this study were to evaluate the microtensile bond strength of one-step adhesives accord ing to various dentin surface treatments and to observe the interface between resin(Z-100$^{TM}$) and dentin under SEM. In this study forty-five non-caries extracted human molars and three adhesive systems were used ; AlI-Bond 2(AB), One-Up Bond F(OU), AQ-Bond(AQ). ; In Group 1, 2, 3, AB was used and tooth surfaces were treated by smearing(S), ultrasonic cleansing(US), etching(E) respectively. In Group 4. 5, 6, One-Up Bond F was used and tooth surfaces were also treated as the same way above. In Groups 7, 8, 9, AQ Bond was used and tooth surfaces wet$.$e treated as the same way. Each specimen was prepared for microtensile bond testing, and were stored for 24hrs in 37$^{\circ}C$ distilled water. After that, microtensile bond strength for each specimen was measured. Specimens were fabricated to examine the failure patterns of interface between resin and dentin and observed under the SEM. The results were as follows ; 1. The results(mean$\pm$SD) of microtensile test were group 1, 25.69$\pm$4.31MPa; group 2, 40.93$\pm$10.94MPa; group 3, 47.65$\pm$8.85MPa; group 4, 35.98$\pm$9.14MPa; group 5, 39.66$\pm$8.45MPa; group 6, 43.26$\pm$13.01MPa; group 7, 25.07$\pm$4.2MPa;group 8, 30.4$\pm$4.74MPa;group 9, 33.61$\pm$7.88MPa. 2. One-Up Bond F was showed the highest value of 36.98$\pm$9.14MPa in dentin surface treatment with smearing, and there were significant differences to the other groups (p<0.05). 3. In this paper the technique to predict tool wear theoretically in shearing process is suggested. The tool wear in the process affects the tolerances of final pans, metal flows and costs of processes. In order to predict the tool wear the deformation of workpiece during the process is analyzed by using non-isothermal finite element program. The ductile fracture criterion and the element kill method are also used to estimate if and where a fracture will occur and to investigate the features of the sheared surface in shearing process. Results obtained from finite element simulation, such as nodal velocities and nodal forces, are transformed into sliding velocity and normal pressure on tool monitoring points respectively. The monitoring points are automatically generated and the wear rates on these points are accumulated during the process. It is assumed that the wear depth on the tool surface is linear function of the lot sizes based upon the known experimental results. The influence of clearance between die and punch upon tool wear is also discussed.

Automobile door latch is a fine design and assembly techniques are required in order to produce them in a small component assembly shape such as a spring, injection products, a small-sized motor. The door latch is fixed to not open the door of the car plays an important role it has a direct impact on the driver's safety. In this study, during trimming of the terminals of the connector main components of the car door latch, reduce rollover and conducted a research to find a suitable effective shear surface. Using the Taguchi method with orthogonal array of Finite Element Analysis and optimal Design of Experiments were set up parameters for the shear surface quality of the car door latch connector terminals. The design parameters used in the analysis is the clearance, the radius, and the blank holding force, the material of the connector terminal is a C2600. Trimming process optimum conditions suggested by the analysis has been verified by experiments, the shear surface shape and dimensions of a final product in good agreement with forming analysis results.Taguchi method from the above results in the optimization for the final rollover and effective shear surface improved for a vehicle door latch to the connector terminal can be seen that the applicable and useful for a variety of metal forming processes other than the trimming process is determined to be applicable.
