Baseplate Design to Improve Swaging Performance of Actuator in a HDD (HDD 액추에이터의 스웨이징성능향상을 위한 베이스플레이트 최적설계)

  • In the manufacturing process of HDD, ball swaging method is commonly used to joint the Head Gimbal Assembly(HGA) with the arm of the actuator. The hub on the HGA is placed into the hole of the actuator arm, and the hub and arm is bonded by the pressure of steel ball. The pressure for plastic deformation on the baseplate causes the undesirable deformation on HGA, such as tilting, flying height change of head. After obtaining the key parameters that have large sensitivity on the swaging process, the optimal shape of baseplate is proposed to increase the static performance during swaging process. Contribution of the proposed design for the swaging performance is verified by contact simulation with elasto-plastic deformation.

  • An engine cradle is a quite important structural assembly for supporting the engine, suspension and steering parts of vehicle and absorbing the vibrations during the drive and the shock in the car crash. Recently, the engine cradle having structural stiffness enough to support the surrounding parts and absorbing the shock of collision has been widely used. The hydroforming technology may cause many advantages to automotive applications in terms of better structural integrity of parts, reduction of production cost, weight reduction, material saving, reduction in the number of joining processes and improvement of reliability. We focus on increasing the durability and the dynamic performance of engine cradle. For realizing this objective, several optimization design techniques such as shape, size, and topology optimization are performed. This optimization scheme based on the sensitivity can provide distinguished performance improvement in using hydroforming.

Ray tracing simulation of SCOTS test for GMT secondary mirror

  • We present SCOTS test simulation for on axis segment of the GMT secondary mirror that is ellipsoidal shape surface of 1.064m in diameter, 4.166747m in radius of curvature, -0.7154 in conic constant and $18.023{\mu}m$ P-V in asphericity. SCOTS test comprises a screen(diffusing sinusoidal fringe source), test surface(GMT secondary mirror), and a camera(CCD detector). We report ray tracing simulation result that is distorted sinusoidal fringe pattern detected at the camera. This simulation is to be used for analysis of experimental design, sensitivity from uncertainty, errors on fabrication and design.

  • Fashion have been expressed by a face through various a period, social change, and various culture changing. Human expresses as "Transformation" by applying these needs of changing to the fashion. A origin tribe expressed its own self by using direct body transformation and extreme decorations in the past. However, human express creative and esthetic desire based on shape, material, and transformation method in the present time characteristics of the body. Exceptional transformation breaking a existing fixed idea appeared frequently due to dissolution through transformation which is positive expression method in the fashion from 20th century. As a results, followings are obtained in this study. First, human body transforms by using a tool or intermediation in investigation of aesthetic meaning for human body. The object, Transformation, is stably transformed by disintegration, distortion, exaggeration and simplification reduction, as design's sensitivity. Second, transformation from relation of clothing composition is expressed by extension, reduction, simplification, and dissolution. In transformation from original tribe's sensitivity, past decorative desire lead to transformation of human body. To give variable change from past to present fashion, external formative will is introduced. Then, extreme expression is made by direct transformation of clothing type. It seems to be accomplished that human body's expression method is continuously changed into extension, exaggeration, reduction, and dissolution from transformation method as described before. Transformation of modem fashion is expression method by creative supervision. Extreme transformation substituted body's each part is based on immanent play and representative satisfaction. Through these transformation, it is judged that variety of creative type is achieved.

The Optimum Design of Airfoil Shape with Parallel Computation (병렬연산을 이용한 익형의 최적 설계)

  • The aerodynamic optimization method for airfoil design was described in this paper. The Navier-Stokes equations were solved to consider the viscous flow information around an airfoil. The Modified Method of Feasible Direction(MMFD) was used for sensitivity analysis and the polynomial interpolation was used for distance calculation of the minimization. The Message Passing Interface(MPI) library of parallel computation was adopted to reduce the computation time of flow solver by decomposing the entire computational domain into 8 sub-domains and one-to-one allocating 8 processors to 8 sub-domains. The parallel computation was also used to compute the sensitivity analysis by allocating each search direction to each processor. The present optimization reduced the drag of airfoil while the lift is maintained at the tolerable design value.

Level Set Based Shape Optimization of Linear Structures using Topological Derivatives (위상민감도를 이용한 선형구조물의 레벨셋 기반 형상 최적설계)

  • Using a level set method and topological derivatives, a topological shape optimization method that is independent of an initial design is developed for linearly elastic structures. In the level set method, the initial domain is kept fixed and its boundary is represented by an implicit moving boundary embedded in the level set function, which facilitates to handle complicated topological shape changes. The "Hamilton-Jacobi(H-J)" equation and computationally robust numerical technique of "up-wind scheme" lead the initial implicit boundary to an optimal one according to the normal velocity field while minimizing the objective function of compliance and satisfying the constraint of allowable volume. Based on the asymptotic regularization concept, the topological derivative is considered as the limit of shape derivative as the radius of hole approaches to zero. The required velocity field to update the H-J equation is determined from the descent direction of Lagrangian derived from optimality conditions. It turns out that the initial holes are not required to get the optimal result since the developed method can create holes whenever and wherever necessary using indicators obtained from the topological derivatives. It is demonstrated that the proper choice of control parameters for nucleation is crucial for efficient optimization process.

  • Considering uncertainties of random input data, it is more reasonable to use probabilistic method than the conventional deterministic method for the design of structures or for the assessment of the responses of structures, which are designed as safe even under extreme loads. Therefore, to assess the quantitative effects of the constructed cable stayed bridge by the input random variables, a sensitivity analysis is studied. Using perturbation method, an analysis program is developed for the iterative probabilistic finite element analyses and sensitivity analyses of the cable stayed bridge, except the initial shape analysis. Monte-Carlo Simulations were used for the verification of the developed program. The results of sensitivity analysis shows the governing effects of external loads.   • This study was designed to satisfy induced voltage limits considering drive's specifications and optimize design reducing usage of permanent magnet, by increasing salient poles ratio, when designing 150kW IPMSM. In order to achieve these objectives, design plans were determined, based on Ld and Lq parameters of a basic design model, according to changes in salient poles ratio and flux linkage using IPMSM's voltage equation and torque equation and then, required torque and induced voltage were analyzed using Sensitivity Analysis. Based on analysis data, the optimum design was performed and basic model's characteristics were compared to final model's through Gradient-Based Optimization Technique.

Using Topology Optimization, Light Weight Design of Vehicle Mounted Voltage Converter for Impact Loading (위상 최적화 기법을 이용한 충격하중에 대한 차량 탑재형 전력변환장치의 마운트 경량화 설계)

  • In this study, it is describe to an optimization analysis process for the weight reduction of the voltage converter in the electric vehicle charging systems. The optimization design is a technique that finds the optimal material distribution under a given material quantity constraint by combining the design sensitivity with the material properties and the mathematical optimization. Among the topology optimization, a lightweight design is performed by a solid isotropic material with penalization with simple formula and well-convergence. The lightweight design consists of three steps. As a first step, a finite element model for the basic design of the on-board voltage converter was constructed and static analysis was performed on the load. In the second step, the optimum shape is obtained for the lightweight by performing the topology optimization using the solid isotropic material with penalization applying the stiffness coefficient of the isotropic material to the static analysis result. As a final step, impact analysis was performed by applying a half-sinusoidal pulse shape impact load which satisfies the impact test standard of the vehicle-mounted part with respect to the optimum shape. In the topology optimization, the design domain was defined as the mounting bracket area, and the design technology was finally achieved by optimizing the mounting bracket to achieve a weight reduction of 20% over the basic design.

  • In this research, a multilevel decomposition technique to enhance the efficiency of the configuration optimization of truss structures was proposed. On the first level, the nonlinear programming problem was formulated considering cross-sectional areas as design variables, weight, or volume as objective function and behavior under multiloading condition as design constraint. Said nonlinear programming problem was transformed into a sequential linear programming problem. which was effective in calculation through the approximation of member forces using behavior space approach. Such approach has proven to be efficient in sensitivity analysis and different form existing shape optimization studies. The modified method of feasible direction (MMFD) was used for the optimization process. On the second level, by treating only shape design variables, the optimum problem was transformed into and unconstrained optimal design problem. A unidirectional search technique was used. As numerical examples, some truss structures were applied to illustrate the applicability. and validity of the formulated algorithm.
