This study investigated the architectural characteristics and preservation status of traditional houses, designated as cultural assets in Jecheon. It aimed to provide basic information for cultural assets preservation policy in Jecheon by finding architectural characteristics of traditional houses. This study was conducted using the research methods of the existing literature and field survey to compare a current status of traditional houses. The result are as followings. Firstly, measures to protect the archetype of traditional houses are urgently needed. For systematic maintenance of local cultural assets, the relevant informations have to be constantly updated with ongoing management. Secondly, the site of traditional houses show the typical appearance of Baesanimsu(背山臨水). They were built with the hill or mountain in the north and agricultural land in the south. Types of placement are mostly closed type of 'ㅁ' shape. Thirdly, An-chae is found various type of 'ㄱ' shape, and Toet-khan was developed. Lastly, Sarang-chae is a mostly type of 'ㄴ' shape, and the traces of confucian thinking is found in floor plan.

Shape-preserving property is the important method that controls the complex free form curve/surface. Interpolation method for the existed Shape-Preservation had problems that it has needed the minimization of a curvature-related functions for calculating single-valued data. Solving this problem, in this paper, it proposed to the algorithm of generalizing C piecewise parametric cubic that has shape-preserving property for both Single-value data and Multivalue data. When there are the arbitrary tangents and two data, including shape-preserving property, this proposed method gets piecewise parametric cubic polynomial by checking the relation between the shape-preserving property and then calculates efficiently the control points using that. Also, it controls the initial shape using curvature distribution on curve segments.
Natural convection in agricultural-products storage system was analysed theoretically, The storage system was modelled by Internally heated fluid saturated porous layer. Darcy's law was used to explain characteristics of fluid motion. Stability equations were obtained under the linear stability theory and transfer characteristics were modelled by the shape assumption. Based on the modelling of transfer characteristics, heat trasnfer correlations were derived theoretically.
This paper presents a novel approach for non-iterative surface smoothing with feature preservation on arbitrary meshes. Laplacian operator is performed in a global way over the mesh. The surface smoothing is formulated as a quadratic optimization problem, which is easily solved by a sparse linear system. The cost function to be optimized penalizes deviations from the global Laplacian operator while maintaining the overall shape of the original mesh. The features of the original mesh can be preserved by adding feature constraints and barycenter constraints in the system. Our approach is simple and fast, and does not cause surface shrinkage and distortion. Many experimental results are presented to show the applicability and flexibility of the approach.

Chirisan National Park, the first and largest one out of 20 national parks in Korea, is divided into five zones. They are composed of nature preservation zone, natural environment zone, natural residential zone, concentrated residential zone, and collective facility zone. However, the park is not a continuous habitat: roads, trails, local residences, and various facilities created the habitat mosaics severely fragmented. We investigated the fragmentation pattern of the park due to roads and mountain trails using GIS. Based on perimeter length, area, and the ratio of perimeter to area of each patch, we obtained landscape analysis indices which reflect the regularity of the patch shape. The 1 m-wide hiking trails divided the park into 491 fragments. The legal trails with 1.5 m - 3 m width which have been heavily used by hikers generate 58 fragments. Even the nature preservation zone, corresponding to a core zone comprising 31.8% of the park area, was divided into 37 fragments because of the roads and mountain trails. With the different widths of buffer applied, the core sizes of the fragments were reduced. When the 60 m buffer was applied, the patch interior areas ranged from 0.0001 to 47.77 $km^2$ with a mean of 7.08 $km^2$. The landscape shape indices were far greater than 1 for most of the cases with a maximum value of 25. These results clearly indicate that Chirisan National Park is not a continuous habitat, but mosaics of small, irregularly shaped habitat fragments. It is necessary to take the size and shape of the fragmented habitats into consideration when nature conservation is planned, especially for large wildlife such as brown bears.
Preservation processing for two combat boots was executed through application of 3-dimensional digital technology and with use of preservation materials providing outstanding reversibility and stability. The aim of this was to establish a method to preserve the relics of fallen Korean War soldiers that had been excavated by the soldiers remains excavation corps of the Ministry of National Defense. It was possible to estimate the foot size of the soldiers who would have worn the combat boots via 3-dimensional digital scanning and modeling of the boots. In this process, the original form of the combat boots was restored through the use of 3D-printed structures. The original form was restored through a process of removing contaminants from the excavated relics and performing a conditioning treatment, and through use of an antique-color treatment after bonding and filling in the sections that had been ripped or deteriorated. Following the aforementioned preservation processes, it was possible to confirm that both of the combat boots had soles and top sections made of rubber, and portions of the top section and ankle section of the boots were made of synthetic rubber. As such, it was confirmed that these were similar to the Shoe Pac(M-1944, 12-inch) winter boots that had been manufactured for the purposes of waterproofing and/or protection against cold, and introduced in 1944. Such results confirmed that it is possible to discover the manufacturing techniques, materials, and uses of relics excavated through application of preservation processing, thereby illustrating the importance of the convergent research of scientific preservation processing and 3-dimensional digital technology.

The objective of this research is to study the method to produce biotope map by using GIS. Surveying and analyzing the situation of biotope map in the country, it was found that biotope map should be produced to be utilized in establishing urban plan and environment preservation plan. Considering the history of materials, preparation method and type of use, the types of original materials can be classified into 3 types, namely, data based on configuration map, the existing thematic map and materials of surveying natural ecology. Biotope map is composed of configuration thematic map that shows the shape and position of surface, urban thematic map that is the standard of unit biotope shape and urban ecology map that shows the urban ecologic situation. Extracted and processed from the original material, each thematic map is produced as biotope map that shows the type of biotope. It is expected that biotope map can be utilized in the area of urban plan including establishment of basic urban plan and urban management plan as well as environment planning area including evaluation of environment influence, establishment of environment preservation plan, consolidated environment management for natural environment and life environment.
Gas hydrate studies are attracting attention of many researchers as an innovative, economic and environmentally friendly technology when it is applied to $CO_2$ capture, transport, and storage. In this study, we investigated whether $CO_2$ hydrate shows the self-preservation effect or not, that is the key property for developing a novel $CO_2$ transport/storage method. Especially the degree of self-preservation effect for $CO_2$ hydrate was studied according to the particle size of $CO_2$ hydrate samples. We prepared three kinds of $CO_2$ hydrate samples varying their particle diameter as millimeter, micron and nano size and measured their change of weight at $-15{\sim}-30^{\circ}C$ under atmospheric pressure during 3 weeks. According to our experimental result, the lower temperature, larger particle size, and compact structure for higher density are the better conditions for obtaining self-preservation effect.
In recent years, a film restoration has gained increasing attention by many researchers, to emergence of variety multimedia and to importance of video preservation. Blotch is the most frequent degradation in old film. This paper presents a blotch detection method using color and shape feature. The proposed method is two major modules: a SROD detector using impulsive feature and NN-based detector using shape feature. To assess the validity of the proposed method, the experiments have been performed on several old films.
In this paper, we propose a mesh smoothing method for mesh models with noise. The proposed method enables not only the removal of noise from the vertexes but the preservation and smoothing of shape recognized as edges and comers. The magnitude ratio of 2D area and 3D volume in mesh data is adopted for the smoothing of noise. Comparing with previous smoothing methods, this method does not need many iteration of the smoothing process and could preserve the shape of original model. Experimental results demonstrate improved performance of the proposed approach in 3D mesh smoothing.
