This study was designed to compare the perception of dental hygiene students and general public with respect to minor variations in maxillary anterior tooth size, alignment and their relation to the surrounding soft tissues. Maxillary anterior teeth were intentionally diagrammed in varying degree of deviation with respect to one of three common anterior esthetic discrepancies including variations in crown length, shape of gingival margin, and length of interproximal contact. Seventeen images were generated to be preferentially selected by 2 groups consisting of dental hygiene students and lay people in Busan(total of 216). The obtained results were as follows; 1. Both group preferred gingival margin of lateral incisor to be 0.5mm lower than that of central incisor. 2. Both group preferred the gingival margin shape of central incisor has 1/9 horizontal component of the crown width. 3. Both group preferred length of the interproximal contact has 1/2 of the crown length. The results of this study may be considered to influence the decision making process by dental professionals with respect to designing the anterior esthetic gingival line.
An active contour model called snake is powerful tool for object contour extraction. But, conventional snakes require exhaustive computing time, sometimes can´t extract complex shape contours due to the properties of energy function, and are also heavily dependent on the position and the shape of an initial snake. To solving these problems, we propose in this paper an improved snake called "shaking snake", based on a greedy algorithm. A shaking snake consist of two steps. According to their appropriateness, we in the first step move each points directly to locations where contours are likely to be located. In the second step, we then align some snake points with a tolerable bound in order to prevent local minima. These processes shake the proposed snake. In the experimental results, we show the process of shaking the proposed shake and comparable performance with a greedy snake. The proposed snake can extract complex shape contours very accurately and run fast, approximately by the factor of five times, than a greedy snake.

We propose a novel direct writing technique with a femtosecond laser enabling selective modification of not only the morphology of conducting polymer thin films but also the orientation and alignment of the polymer crystal. Surface relief gratings resulting from photoexpansion on P3HT:PCBM and PEDOT:PSS thin films were fabricated by femtosecond laser direct writing. The photoexpansion was induced at laser fluence below the ablation threshold of the thin film. The morphology (size and shape) of photoexpansion could be quantitatively controlled by laser writing parameters such as focused beam size, writing speed, and laser fluence. GIWAX results showed that face-on P3HT crystals were largely increased in the photoexpansion in comparison with pristine region of the thin film. In addition, the face-on P3HTs in the photoexpansion were aligned with their orientation along the polarization of the laser. The micro-RAMAN spectra confirmed that neither chemical composition change nor the polymer chain breaking was observable after femtosecond laser irradiation. We believe that this laser direct writing technique opens a new door to the fabrication of more efficient OPVs via non-contact, toxic-free approach.
Hallux valgus is a lateral deviation of the first phalanx and medial deviation of the first metatarsal at the first metatarsophalangeal (MP) joint. Its incidence has increased due to developing footwear. The etiologies include fashion footwear, genetic causes, anatomical abnormality around the foot, rheumatoid arthritis, and neuromuscular disorders. Physiologic alignment of the first MP joint is maintained by congruent and symmetric alignment of the articular surface of the first proximal phalanx and first metatarsal head, physiologic relationship of the distal first metatarsal articular surface and the first metatarsal shaft axis, and stable balance of soft tissue around the first MP joint and stable tarsometatarsal joint. Several factors have been associated with hallux valgus, including pes planus, hypermobility of the first tarsometatarsal joint, flattened shape of the first metatarsal head, increased distal metatarsal articular angle, and deformation of the medial capsular integrity. History and physical examination are very important to diagnosis of hallux valgus. Simple radiography provides information on deformity, particularly in weight-bearing anteroposterior and lateral radiographs. Understanding the etiologies and pathophysiology is very important for success in treatment of patients with hallux valgus.

The Patterned vertical alignment (PVA) mode has many advantages such as perfect dark state at the normal direction and wide viewing angle. However, PVA mode needs additional process to pattern electrodes of both substrates and complicated assembly process. Moreover, this mode shows slow response time. To overcome these problems, we use plane shape ITO on top substrate instead of patterned electrode and form proper tilt angle of LC director on the surface while maintaining these original merits. Consequently, we achieve fast response time and improve transmittance.

EDM is the manufacturing process that uses the thermal energy to machine electrically conductive part. Despite a lot of research has been conducted for decades, the best aspect ratio of the micro hole using micro-EDM has not been over 30, yet. In the present study, new fabrication scheme was introduced to increase the aspect ratio of micro hole dramatically. Micro holes with less than 10 aspect ratio were aligned and welded together to manufacture a micro hole with extreme aspect ratio. Alignment of the micro hole with over 380 aspect ratio was conducted by the home-made apparatus installed with microscope and laser beam. The micro hole with extreme aspect ratio was used to shape pencil beam from proton beam generated from MC-50 cyclotron. The pencil beam was utilized to machine test specimen whose result was compared with GEANT4 computer simulation. It was shown that the experimental and simulation result were closer as the aspect ratio of the micro hole was bigger.

In order to obtain the effective length factor of beam-column members of plane frames, this paper extensively used an alignment chart approach, based on the nomograph given in LRFD-AISC specification commentaries. However, it should be noted that various simplifications and assumptions were introduced in constructing the alignment chart. To overcome the practical limitations of the alignment chart, this paper proposes a simple but accurate procedure that determined the effective buckling length for stability design of main members of cable-supported bridges. This method requires the full system buckling analysis. The numerical examples showing the suitability of the present scheme are discussed and some conclusions are drawn.
Purpose: In this study, the effect of lens fitting status on the contact area between spherical/aspherical RGP lens and the cornea having different astigmatic degree and corneal type was investigated for guiding the proper selection of RGP lens. Methods: Spherical and aspherical RGP lenses were applied on ninety eyes $(25.12{\pm}3.52years)$ having with-the-rule astigmatism by different fitting status. Then, their central, mid-peripheral and peripheral areas of fluorescein pattern were calculated and compared for the quantitative evaluation of the contact area between spherical/aspherical RGP lens. Results: The central and peripheral areas with the alignment fitting was significant different based on lens design. However, the central area didn't show any significant difference by lens design and corneal type when fitted in steep or flat. When analyzed by the corneal shape, both lenses with alignment and flat fitting had significant difference in central and peripheral areas. However, the central, mid-peripheral and peripheral areas with steep fitting didn't show the difference by corneal types. When analyzed by the astigmatic degree, the central and peripheral areas with alignment fitting changed proportionally to the increase of corneal astigmatism regardless of corneal shape. With steep and flat fitting, however, the central, mid-peripheral and/or peripheral areas in round- and symmetric bowtie-typed corneas showed the conflicting result when compared to those of alignment fitting when analyzed by the astigmatic degree. Conclusions: In this study, it was confirmed that the contact areas of cornea and RGP lens fitted steep and flat status were largely affected by the corneal type and corneal astigmatism rather than RGP lens fitted in alignment status. Also, this result commonly occurred in both spherical and aspherical RGP lenses.

We designed and fabricated a bidirectional optical transceiver module for low cost access network. An integrated chip forming a pin-PD on an 1.3 urn FP-LD was assembled by flip-chip bonding on a Si optical bench, a single mode fiber with an angled end facet was aligned passively with the integrated chip on V-groove of Si-optical bench. Gaussian beam theory was applied to evaluate the coupling coefficients as a function of some parameters such as alignment distance, angle of fiber end facet, vertical alignment error. The theory is also used to search the bottle-neck between transmittance and receiving coupling efficiency in the bi-directional optical system. Tn this paper, we confirmed that reduction of coupling efficiency by the vertical alignment error between laser beam and fiber core axis can be compensated by controlling the fiber facet angle. In the fabrication of sub-module, a'||'&'||' we made such that the fiber facet have a corn shape with an angled facet only core part, the reflection of transmitted laser beam from the fiber facet could be minimized below -35 dE in alignment distance of 2: 30 /J.m. In the same condition, transmitted output power of -12.1 dEm and responsivity of 0.2. AIW were obtained.

Recently, the social requirement of personal identification techniques has been increasing. Fingerprint recognition is one of the biometries methods that has been widely used for this requirement. This paper proposes the fingerprint matching algorithm that uses the information of the ridge shapes of minutiae. In which, the data of the ridge shape are expressed in one-dimensional discrete-time signals. In our algorithm, we obtain one-dimensional discrete-time signals for ridge at every minutiae from input and registered fingerprints, and find pairs of minutia which have the similar ridge shape by comparing input fingerprint with registered fingerprint, thereafter we find candidates of rotation angle and moving displacement from the pairs of similar minutia, and obtain the final rotation angle and moving displacement value from those candidates set by using clustering method. After that, we align an input fingerprint by using obtained data, and calculate the matching rate by counting the number of corresponded pairs of minutia within the overlapped area of an input and registered fingerprints. As a result of experiment, false rejection rate(FRR) of $18.0\%$ at false acceptance rate(FAR) of $0.79\%$ is achieved.
