Calibration chamber tests were conducted on open -ended model piles driven into dried siliceous sands with different soil conditions in order to clarify the effect of soil conditions on plug capacity, The model pile used in the test series was devised so that the bearing capacity of an open -ended pile could be measured out into three components , outside shaft resistance. plug resistance and tip resistance. Under several assumption, the value of earth pressure coefficient in the soil plug is calculated. It is gradually reduced with increase in the longitudinal distance from the pile tip. At the bottom of soil plug, it tends to decrease with increase in the penetration depth and relative density, and to increase with the increase of ambient pressure. In comparison of measured and calculated plug capacities using the one -dimensional analysis, we note that API code and one -dimensional analysis combined with P suggested by Randolph et al. and O'Neill et al. result in great underestimation of the plug capacity. Therefore, based on the test results, an empirical equation was suggested to compute the earth pressured coefficient to be used in the calculation of plug capacity using the one -dimensional analysis. and it produces proper plug capacities for all soil conditions.

Recently, numerous structures have been constructed near the Nakdong river estuary, with pile foundations embedded in sand and gravel layers. In this study, the side resistance for six drilled shafts embedded in that region was evaluated based on the results of bi-directional and static axial compressive pile load tests. Subsequently, these results were compared with the side resistance calculated using domestic and foreign design codes such as FHWA (1999), KDS (2021), and AIJ (2004). Based on the test results, the evaluated side resistances ranged from 120 to 444kPa. However, the estimated values obtained from the design codes ranged from 69.3 to 170kPa, which were less than 50% of the evaluated values. It was observed that the empirical methods and correlations used in design codes provide a conservative estimation of the side resistance for drilled shafts embedded in sand and gravel layers. It implies that a suitable domestic approach should be developed to accurately estimate the side resistance of pile in sandy gravel and gravel layers near the Nakdong river estuary.
The pressure penetrating steel pipe pile method which can be constructed in a narrow space using the hydraulic jack is used on the foundation reinforcement, extension of the structure and basement, restoration of the differential settlement etc.. This method is possible to construct in narrow areas and low story height, the non-noise and non-vibration works, and it is possible for the construction site to be clean without slime. And it is possible to confirm the bearing capacity of pile due to penetrating the pile with the compression load of hydraulic jack. In this study, the static load test with the load-transfer test was carried out to investigate the bearing behavior characteristics of the pressure penetrating steel pipe pile. Four series of static load test were executed to investigate the variation of bearing behavior of the pressure penetrating steel pipe pile. As a result of these tests, the allowable load of the pressure penetrating steel pipe was evaluated more than 637 kN, and the shaft resistance corresponding to 81~86% of each applied load was mobilized with only a small portion of the base resistance acting. And it was also evaluated that the unit skin friction was mobilized to maximum value after two months.

In this study, a modified empirical formula for estimating the bearing capacity of the steel pipe prebored and precast pile was proposed by performing 20 cases of real-scale field pile loading tests. The proposed formula will be based on expanded SPT N-value in order to consider the realistic condition of the surrounding soil. The formula is proposed based on a statistic approach of the data points from the field pile loading test, in order to ensure safe engineering practice while finding a reliable formula. The statistical analysis of the data points from the loading test indicated that the existing formula has been underestimated the bearing capacity of the prebored and precast pile. The proposed formula estimates 15% and 20% higher pile End bearing capacity (qt=230Pdriven(kN/m2)) and the shaft resistance (fmax=3.0NsE(kN/m2)) compared to the existing formula. The accuracy and the stability of the proposed formula was verified by comparing the estimated results with additional field test data. The verification process showed that the proposed formula was estimated to be more accurate than the existing formula.

Different methods are used for determining the output of engines to obtain the indicated horsepower by measuring the combustion pressure of cylinders, and to obtain the shaft horsepower by measuring the shaft torque. It is difficult to examine the shaft torque using the condition of the cylinder, and the most accurate method used for determining the combustion pressure involves examining the combustion state of the cylinder to evaluate the engine performance and analyze the combustion of the cylinder. During the measurement, the combustion pressure is the most important parameter used for accurately determining the cylinder angle because the cylinder pressure is indicated based on the angle of the crankshaft. In this study, an encoder was used as the crank angle sensor to measure the cylinder pressure on the generator engine of the actual operating ship. The reasons for the differences between the top dead center (TDC) recognized by the encoder (TDCencoder) and the TDC recognized by the compression pressure (TDCcomp) were considered. The dif erences between the TDCcomp and TDCencoder of the cylinders measured at idle running, 25 %, 50 %, and 60 % loads were analyzed to determine for the crankshaft production effect, the crankshaft torsion effect owing to the increased rotational resistance from the increased load, and the coupling damping effect between the engine and generator. It was confirmed that the TDC error occurred up to 3° crank angle as the load of the generator increased.
Ground in extremely cold and hot regions can sink by various environmental factors. Ground settlement can generate the negative skin friction to pile shaft, increase the base load of pile, and cut the stability of the pile. This study proposed a member responding ground deformation which can be inserted inside the pile. The member slightly compresses according to the ground settlement to reduce the negative skin friction. As the member materials, this study considered spring and spring-dashpot. To assess the ability of the member, the present research performed model tests for piles with or without the member within settled ground. In the model tests, the base load, total shaft resistance, and horizontal earth pressure were monitored and analyzed. Experimental results show that the pile with spring member can reduce the negative skin friction under small settlement conditions whereas it acts similar to the pile without the member under large settlement conditions as the spring was no longer compressed. However, the pile with the spring-dashpot member can reduce the negative skin friction continuously upon the ground settlement as the dashpot delays the load transfer to the spring and locates friction force on the unloading path.
Open-ended pipe piles are often used for the foundations of both land and offshore structures because of their relatively low driving resistance. In this study, load tests were performed on model pipe piles installed in calibration chamber samples in order to investigate the effects of pile installation method on soil plugging and bearing capacity. Results of the test program showed that the incremental filling ratio (IFR), which is used to indicate the degree of soil plugging in open-ended piles, decreased (i) with increasing hammer weight for the same driving energy and (ii) with increasing hammer weight at the same fall height. The base and shaft resistance of the piles were observed to increase (i) with increasing hammer weight for the same driving energy and (ii) with increasing hammer weight at the given same fa11 height. The jacked pile was found to be have higher bearing capacity than an identical driven pile under similar conditions, mostly due to the more effective development of a soil plug in jacking than in driving.

The very erosive cavitation is simulated by an inclined propeller dynamometer in the medium-size cavitation tunnel of MOERI. The inclined shaft for propeller makes strong cavitaion, which occurs around the root of a propeller blade. The cavitation begins at the leading edge of the propeller and contracted toward the trailing edge through the reentrant jet action. The cavity focused on the region near the trailing edge collapsed over the blade surface. As the impact pressure by the cavitation collapsing is too strong, it can damage the blade surface in the form of pit. This cavitation impacts created by the collapsing process are similar to the full-scale ones and are different from those by other erosion test methods. The newly developed cavitation erosion test method can be applied to evaluate the materials such as metals, ceramics and coatings in terms of cavitation resistance.

As increasing demand on marine structures and skyscrapers, a deep shaft pile foundation is more to be used for the place having weak ground strength. Because heavy horizontal force is generally applied on upper part of pile foundation used in civil or architectural construction, steel pile is largely used with its high resistance to shear force and bending moment, and its capability to carry heavy loads. The steel pile has advantage in good constructibility, high applicability on site and easy handing, but has disadvantage in cost, more expensive than other material pile. This study is about the Composite pile that makes economical construction possible by reducing material cost of pile; using steel and PHC pile simultaneously while preserving the advantage of steel pile that large resistance to horizontal force and bending moment. A Non Welding connection method is applied to this composite pile and this method could reduce the cost and period of construction and could increase the quality of construction by solving the problem of current welding method and by improving the workability of pile connection. In this study, characteristics of driveability of non welding composite pile is analyzed prior to main project while the purpose of main project is proving the applicability of Non Welding Composite Pile by conducting various kind of loading test to analyze the characteristics behaviour of Non Welding Composit Pile and by verifying stability of non welding connection pile.

The objective of the This study is to access the speed performance employing the sea trial test and CFD with the our own designed and manufactured one-man boat. The overall design process including hull form design was explained. The sea trial was carried out with a manufactured boat in the clam sea. Brake power at the design speed of a boat through the sea trial was measured as 1680 W. The flow computation was conducted considering free surface and dynamic trim using a commercial CFD code(STAR-CCM+). The result of computation provided the information that residual resistance is bigger than fraction's at design speed. The total efficiency were predicted based on the sea trial and CFD. The Total efficiency was divided into shaft efficiency and quasi-propulsive efficiency. By using quasi-propulsive efficiency, it becomes possible to predict speed performance of boat in future. The results can provide information regarding hull form design, performance analysis and development of a boat in future.
