  • In order to Mine Countermeasure (MCM), the search is carried out for the expected mine zone. At this time, mine hunting uses Autonomous Unmanned Vehicle(AUV), taking into account the danger of mine and the stability of our forces. Sonar system for identifying buried mines are equipped with Side Scan Sonar(SSS) or Synthetic Aperture Sonar(SAS). This paper describes the analysis of mine hunting effects according to the commercial SSS characteristics. Based on the characteristics of each SSS, the insonified area and recognition probability were modeled, and the analysis was performed according to the search pattern of the AUV. AUV's search pattern defines three patterns depending on the presence or absence of SSS or shaded areas. The analysis results derived search time and detection probability for each search pattern, and finally, the improvement of search depending on the presence or absence of side injection or shaded area.

  • Prunus mume is a culturally significant fruit tree in East Asia that is widely used in traditional foods and medicines. The present study investigated the effects of sunlight exposure and leaf position on the photosynthetic efficiency of P. mume using SPAD values. The study was conducted at Cheongju National University of Education, Korea, under contrasting conditions between sunny (Site A) and shaded (Site B) areas on P. mume trees. Over three days, under varied weather, photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) and SPAD measurements were collected using a SPAD-502 plus chlorophyll meter and a smartphone PPFD meter application. The SPAD values of the 60 leaves were measured in triplicate for each tree. The results indicated that trees in sunny locations consistently exhibited higher SPAD values than those in shaded areas, implying greater photosynthetic efficiency. Moreover, leaves positioned higher in the canopy showed increased photosynthetic efficiency under different light conditions, underscoring the significance of leaf placement and light environment in photosynthetic optimization. Despite the daily sunlight variability, these factors maintained a consistent influence on SPAD values. This study concludes that optimal leaf positioning, influenced by direct sunlight exposure, significantly enhances photosynthetic efficiency in P. mume. These findings highlight the potential of integrating smart farming techniques, especially open-field smart farming technology, to improve photosynthesis and, consequently, crop yield and efficiency. The findings also highlight the need for further exploration of environmental factors affecting photosynthesis for agricultural advancement.

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze the relationship between the location of the epicenter of a medium-sized earthquake(magnitude 4.8) that occurred on January 20, 2007 in the Odaesan area with lineament features using a shaded relief map(1/25,000 scale) and satellite images from LANDSAT-8 and KOMPSAT-2. Previous studies have analyzed lineament features in tectonic settings primarily by examining two-dimensional satellite images and shaded relief maps. These methods, however, limit the application of the visual interpretation of relief features long considered as the major component of lineament extraction. To overcome some existing limitations of two-dimensional images, this study examined three-dimensional images, produced from a Digital Elevation Model and drainage network map, for lineament extraction. This approach reduces mapping errors introduced by visual interpretation. In addition, spline interpolation was conducted to produce density maps of lineament frequency, intersection, and length required to estimate the density of lineament at the epicenter of the earthquake. An algorithm was developed to compute the Value of the Relative Density(VRD) representing the relative density of lineament from the map. The VRD is the lineament density of each map grid divided by the maximum density value from the map. As such, it is a quantified value that indicates the concentration level of the lineament density across the area impacted by the earthquake. Using this algorithm, the VRD calculated at the earthquake epicenter using the lineament's frequency, intersection, and length density maps ranged from approximately 0.60(min) to 0.90(max). However, because there were differences in mapped images such as those for solar altitude and azimuth, the mean of VRD was used rather than those categorized by the images. The results show that the average frequency of VRD was approximately 0.85, which was 21% higher than the intersection and length of VRD, demonstrating the close relationship that exists between lineament and the epicenter. Therefore, it is concluded that the density map analysis described in this study, based on lineament extraction, is valid and can be used as a primary data analysis tool for earthquake research in the future.

  • This research has been conducted to collect regional ecotypes of Poa pratensis throughout the southern part of korean peninsula during 2000~2002. 227 local ecotypes of Poa pratensis were collected mostly from roadsides, riversides and rice paddies. The $35^{\circ}$ latitude was supposed to be the southern limit of native Poa pratensis habitat. 130 ecotypes of Poa pratensis found from the poor environmental condition such as roadsides showed Poa pratensis naturally grew throughout the country. When surveyed the habitat environment, it was concluded that native Poa pratensis were mostly found on open fields or half shaded areas, on sandy soil or sandy loam soil, and in the individual patch type.

  • In this paper, an algorithm for recovering the 3-D shape from a single shaded image is proposed. In the proposed algorithm, by using the relation between the height and surface gradient (p, q), a set of linear equations is derived from the linearized reflectance function. Then the 3-D surface is recovered by employing the conjugate gradient technique. In order to improve the convergence speed of the solution, we also employ the hierarchical basis function and multiresolution images in the algorithm. A method for determining the regularization parameter, which is determined by trial and error in the conventional approach, is also introduced. In addition, the proposed algorithm attempts to recover the 3-D surface without requiring the boundary conditions, making it suitable for a real-time implementation. Simulation results for real image as well as synthetic image are provided to demonstrate the performance of the proposed algorithm.

  • In order to investigate the light fastness of Korean knotweed extract, the concentrate were prepared and dyed to silk fabric under the various conditions, such as kinds of mordants, methods of mordanting, and the dye concentration. After the deed fabrics were irradiated for several hours, the color differences and K/S values were measured. Additionally, the light fastness of Korean knotweed extracts and Emodin in liquid solution was compared. The light fastness of silk fabrics deed with Korean knotweed extract was improved by the Introduction of Fe-mordant, but the surface colors on the dyed fabrics shaded into reddish and dark yellow by 80hours irradiation. Color difference of fabrics were increased wish concentrations of Korean knotweed extracts. So inconsistent fading behaviour was observed. Color difference of dyed fabrics increased remarkably at the early stage of fading and became slowly down except for Fe-mordanted fabric. Absorbance of Korean knotweed extracts and Emodin in liquid solution were extremely decreased with concentrations of colorants, so inconsistent fading behaviour was observed too.

  • Lineament extraction from mountain area often provides valuable geological information. In many cases, the lineaments correspond to a series of continuous large valleys. This paper introduces a new lineament extraction method from Digital Elevation Model (DEM) using Raindrop Tracing Algorithm (RTA). The main advantage of this algorithm over conventional Segment Tracing Algorithm (STA) is that it utilizes DEM directly unlike the STA Which utilizes the shaded relief of DEM. The RTA simulates the real life of raindrops that converge into a large valley. The simulation has been done by sprinkling the randomized raindrops over DEM and counting the number of raindrop path that follows the negative gradient of the DEM. The large counting number indicates the location of a big valley where the raindrops converge. With the help of the counting number array (accumulator array) recording the flowing path information, RTA can produce perfectly unbiased binary image of the lineament.

  • In this paper, the techniques for graphic simulation of material removal process are described. The concepts of the bounding box and base plane are proposed. With these concepts, a real-time shaded display of a Z-map model being milled by a cutting tool following an NC path can be implemented very efficiently. The base planes make it possible to detect the visible face of Z-map model effectively. And the bounding box of tool sweep volume provides minimum area of screen to be updated. The proposed techniques are suitable for implementation in raster graphic device and need a few memories and a small amount of calculation. Proposed method is written in C and executable on MS-Windows95 and Window-NT.

  • To assess deep geological environment for the research and development of hish-level radioactive waste disposal, six boreholes of 3" in diameter were installed in two granitic areas. An areal extent of the rock block scale in the study sites was estimated by the lineament analysis from satellite images and shaded relief maps. The characterization of fracture system developed in rock block scale was carried out based on the acoustic televiewer logging in deep boreholes. In the Yuseong site, the granite rock mass was divided into the upper and lower zones at around -160m based on the probabilistic distribution characteristics of the geometric parameters such as orientation, fracture frequency, spacing and aperture size. Since the groundwater flow is dependent on the fracture system in a fractured rock mass, the correlation of the fracture frequency and cumulative aperture size to the hydraulic conductivity was also discussed.

  • This paper provides the up to date review of the shading effects on PV module performance and the associated detection algorithm related to the maximum power point tracking. It includes the brief explanations of the MMP variations due to the shading occurrence on the PV modules. Review of experimental and simulation studies highlighting the significant impacts of shading on PV efficiencies were presented. The literature indicates that even the partial shading of a single cell can greatly drop the entire module voltage and power efficiency. The MMP tracking approaches were also reviewed in this study. Both conventional and advanced soft computing methods such as ANN, FLC and EA were described for the proper tracking of MMP under shaded conditions. This paper would be the basic source and the comprehensive information associated with the shading effects and relevant MPP tracking technique.
