  • In recent years, the research and development for the photovoltaic(PV) energy system are making rapidly progress around the world and specially this country, too due the deregulation law for the renewable energy system seems to be born sooner or later. In PV generation system, the partially shaded PV array is the one of the worst case which reduces the efficiency of the total PV generation system. The partial shaded condition is the result of shadowing by cloud and dust building of on the surface of the panel. Some structural elements, such as antennas, booms etc. is also the reason of the shadowing. Even if only a small part of PV is shaded, the overall generation power of PV is significantly decreased. Therefore, several researchers who are focusing on the PV generation system take a time for the research related with the shadowing problem of PV array. In this paper, authors have developed the method which users can achieved the modeling of partially shaded PV array with. With several papers authors have already announced the availability of the EMTDC/PSCAD PV panel model component. This research result is the developed version of the previous papers.

  • A single-phase induction motor with it's stator winding splitted into two series windings, of which the terminals of one winding is switched pulsationally by a thyristor type ON-OFF device so that the motor may operate as a pulsational shaded-pole motor, can modulate current waveforms of it's two series windings. In view of current waveform modulation method, a single-phase single-winding motor operates as a two-phase induction motor with asymmetrical axis windings where the starting torque can be obtained effectively without an auxiliary capacitor attached and it's running speed controlled by shifting phase between current waveforms differently. Equivalent circuit for analysis is modified from a double revolving field equivalent circuit of a single-phase induction motor with asymmetrical windings whose angle is 45.deg.C elet. degrees. Analysis and test results show that ON-OFF action of the pulsational shaded-pole winding has the same effect of a series capacitor, and then at heavy loads this motor operates with a small amonut of the input current than that having the fixed shaded-pole winding.

  • There are some degradation factors for amorphous silicon solar cells. Light inducing is one of the factor that explained by Staebler-Wronski effect. Also, hotspot heating could be the reason that makes amorphous silicon solar cell degrade. Hotspot heating is occurred when a solar cell is shaded so this work is investigated into two types of shading condition and how these affect to solar cell differently. Reduced irradiance for whole cell and partially shaded as 0($W/m^2$) while the other part of cell is soaking as 1000($W/m^2$) of irradiance are two conditions that are experimented. The two types of shading show different characteristics of degradations. The result shows that partially shaded cell dropped maximum powerless and slower. Also sudden drop points have shown that should be concerned to decide the number of cells for a string. Otherwise, the current through a shaded cell might flow more than cell's capability. It makes cell and module damaged. This work would help to manufacture modules.

  • Experiments were conducted to investigate the relationships between the soil freezing depth and the accumulated degree-day of temperature below $0^{\circ}C$ at 17 locations during 1989-1990 winter season in kangwon province. The observed results are as follows : 1.When accumulated degree-day of temperature below at was 141t at late January soil freezing depth of sunny place was 46.5cm, that of shaded lot was 59 cm, and that of marginal place sunny or shaded area was 55cm, in Chun cheon. 2.Accumulated degree-day of temperature below at of Dae gwangryong area was more than that of Un-du, whereas soil freezing depth of Dae gwangryong was lower that of Un-du. It was considered that snow covering worked as heat insulator. 3.Soil freezing depth of vinyl mulching on Zoysia turf was less by around 2Ocm than that of non-vinyl mulching. Rice hulls covering of 4Ocm showed the great heat insulation effects with the soil freezing depth of 1.5cm at sunny place and 6.5cm at shaded lot compared to that of 47cm at sunny and 59.5 cm at shaded place bare ground. 4.Among investingated areas, Dunae, Honeg seong gun was the deepest soil freezing, 89cm with $569^{\circ}C$ of accumulated degree-day of temperature below $0^{\circ}C$ at late February. 5.dehydration of Juniperus C. var. Kaizuca, Euonymus japonica, and Chamaecyparis pisifira at winter season was around 5 %, however dehydration of Vinca minor was more than 10 %. • PURPOSE. The aim of the study was to evaluate the optical properties of new generation (3Y-TZP) monolithic zirconia (MZ) with different abutment types and resin cement shades. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A1/LT MZ specimens were prepared (10 × 12 × 1 mm, N = 30) and divided into 3 groups according to cement shades as transparent (Tr), yellow (Y) and opaque (O). Abutment specimens were obtained from 4 different materials including zirconia (Group Z), hybrid (Group H), titanium (Group T) and anodized yellow titanium (Group AT). MZ and abutment specimens were then cemented. L*, a*, and b* parameters were obtained from MZ, MZ + abutment, and MZ + abutment + cement. ∆E001* (between MZ and MZ + abutment), ∆E002* (between MZ and MZ + abutment + cement) and ∆E003* (between MZ + abutment and MZ + abutment + cement) values were calculated. Statistical analyses included 2-way ANOVA, Bonferroni, and Paired Sample t-Tests (P < .05). RESULTS. Abutment types and resin cements had significant effect on L*, a*, b*, ∆E001*, ∆E002*, and ∆E003* values (P < .001). Without cementation, whereas zirconia abutment resulted in the least discoloration (∆E001* = 0.68), titanium abutment caused the most discoloration (∆E001* = 4.99). The least ∆E002* = 0.68 value was seen using zirconia abutment after cementation with yellow shaded cement. Opaque shaded cement caused the most color change (∆E003* = 5.24). Cement application increased the L* values in all groups. CONCLUSION. The least color change with/without cement was observed in crown configurations created with zirconia abutments. Zirconia and hybrid abutments produced significantly lower ∆E002* and ∆E003* values in combination with yellow shaded cement. The usage of opaque shaded cement in titanium/anodized titanium groups may enable the clinically unacceptable ∆E00* value to reach the acceptable level.

  • The proposed scheme is based on the modified perturb and observe (P&O) algorithm combined with the sliding mode technique. A modified P&O algorithm based sliding mode controller is developed to study the effects of partial shade, temperature, and insolation on the performance of maximum power point tracking (MPPT) used in photovoltaic (PV) systems. Under partially shaded conditions and temperature, the energy conversion efficiency of a PV array is very low, leading to significant power losses. Consequently, increasing efficiency by means of MPPT is particularly important. Conventional techniques are easy to implement but produce oscillations at MPP. The proposed method is applied to a model to simulate the performance of the PV system for solar energy usage, which is compared to the conventional methods under non-uniform insolation improving the PV system utilization efficiency and allowing optimization of the system performance. The modified perturb and observe sliding mode controller successfully overcomes the issues presented by non-uniform conditions and tracks the global MPP. Compared to MPPT techniques, the proposed technique is more efficient; it produces less oscillation at MPP in the steady state, and provides more precise tracking.

  • This paper proposes the reconfiguration of PV module considering shadow influence of photovoltaic system. The PV system is consisted series-parallel connection of PV module. The voltage and current between PV modules become unbalance when shadow occurs to PV module. If shadow occurs to the series connection PV module, the output current is limited to current of shaded PV module. Also if shadow occurs to the parallel connection PV module, the output voltage is limited to voltage of shaded PV module. These problems are caused power loss. Therefore, the PV module in this paper consist using the fixed module and variable module by shaded conditions. The reconfiguration of PV module can compensates the shadow influence by changing connection of a variable module when shadow is occurred to PV module. A validity of the reconfiguration of PV module proposed in this paper proves through comparing with performance of conventional PV module.

  • PURPOSE. Translucency of all-ceramic restorations is an important factor which affects the final appearance and esthetic outcome of the restoration. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the shade of coloring liquid on the translucency of zirconia framework. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Thirty zirconium oxide core plate ($15{\times}12{\times}0.5$ mm) were divided into 6 groups of 5 plates each. Each group was classified according to the shade of coloring liquid based on Vita Classic Scale (A2, A3, B1, C2, and D2), and each sample was immersed in coloring liquid for 3 seconds as recommended by the manufacturer, except for the control group. Contrast ratio, as a translucency parameter, was calculated using a spectrophotometer and the data were analyzed with oneway analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey's honestly significant differences (HSD) tests (${\alpha}$=.05). RESULTS. Significant differences in translucency among the control and test groups, and the B1 shaded group and other shades was observed. There were no significant differences among A2, A3, C2, and D2 shaded groups. CONCLUSION. The translucency of the zirconium oxide cores was affected by the coloring procedure and significant differences in the translucency measurements were identified between specific shades.
