Evaluation of the Heavy Metal Tolerance of Saxifraga stolonifera, Shade Groundcover Plant, to Different Concentrations of Cd, Pb and Zn in Soil (토양 내 카드늄, 납, 아연 농도에 따른 내음성 바위취(Saxifraga stolonifera)의 중금속 내성 평가)

  • This study attempted to facilitate various groundcover plants, related to phytoremediation material, and advance shade plants with a heavy metal tolerance to contaminated soil in an urban shade space. Saxifraga stolonifera, which has commonly been used a landscape shade plants, was evaluated to determine its heavy metal tolerance to different concentrations(Control, $100mg{\cdot}kg^{-1}$, $250mg{\cdot}kg^{-1}$ and $500mg{\cdot}kg^{-1}$ treatment) of Cd, Pb and Zn in soil. The growth of Saxifraga stolonifera showed no significant tendency after the initial transplantation, but showed distinct changes with the respective treatment heavy metal types and concentrations over time. Especially, severe chlorosis, with more yellowish green leaves, was observed, with inhibition at Cd concentrations greater than $100mg{\cdot}kg^{-1}$. Conversely, no external symptoms or growth retardation were observed with Pb and Zn concentrations less than $500mg{\cdot}kg^{-1}$. Therefore, Saxifraga stolonifera can be applied as a long term phytoremediation species in soil contaminated with low concentrations of heavy metal in urban shade spaces.

Effects of Shading material of Rain Shelter on Growth and Quality in Panax Ginseng C. A. Meyer (비누수 해가림 재배가 인삼의 생육 및 품질에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the optimum shading material of rain shelter in Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer. Results obtained from our experiment can be summarized as follows. From photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) as shade materials on sunny day, temperature under rain shelter was low in comparison with that under polyethylene net. It was ranged from 3 to $5^{\circ}C$ Survival rate of 3,4, and 5 year-old ginsengs under shade materials of rain shelter was lower than that under polyethylene net. Root fresh weight in ginseng grown under rain shelter was increased into about 5.0g in 3 year-old, 10g in 4 year-old and 8g in 5 year-old ginsengs. From investigating root grade of 3, 4, and 5 year-old ginsengs, we confirmed that rain shelter was more effective than the other as shading materials. Root size of 3, 4, 5 year-old ginsengs grown under rain shelter is distributed in bigger size than that grown under polyethylene net. Also, in the case of saponin contents, the ginseng grown under the shade material of rain shelter was higher than that under polyethylene net.

SHADE PERCEPTION ABILITY AMONG DIFFERENT DENTAL PERSONNEL (치과 종사자간의 색조 식별 능력)

  • Statement of problem: Many factors influence shade determination in clinical practice and shade matching is highly affected by the viewing conditions. Purpose : This study investigated the differences in shade perception among distinct groups of dental personnel (10 prosthodontists, 10 general practitioners, 10 last-year dental students and 10 dental technicians) Material and method: Four groups of dental personnel were investigated. They were tested to eliminate color blindness. To compare shade selection ability, they were asked to match four test tabs of shades A3, B2, C2 and D4 (VITAPAN$^{(R)}$ Classical shade guide. The identification codes of the shade tabs were masked to prevent shade memory. ) against another full set of VITA$^{(R)}$ PAN$^{(R)}$ Classical shade guide under similar lighting conditions. Shade selections were randomly repeated five times every week and then the repeatability between dental personnel was evaluated. To compare value perception ability, they were asked to arrange randomly selected five test tabs (Bl, A2, D2, C3, A4) in descending order from the brightest to the darkest. To compare hue determination ability, they were asked to divide selected eight test tabs (n, A3, B2, B3, C2, C3, D2, D3) into four groups by manufacturer as follows : Group A-Reddish brown, Group B-Reddish yellow. Group C-Grey. Group D-Reddish grey. Results and conclusion : The obtained results were as follows : 1. For the value perception ability and hue determination ability. there was no significant difference among 4 groups: prosthodontists, general practitioners, dental students, dental technicians (P>.05). 2. For shade selection ability, the prosthodontists and dental technicians were significantly higher than dental students(P<.05). 3. The repeatability of selected shade in the dental technicians was significantly higher than that of general practitioners and dental students(P<.05). 4. The prosthodontists and dental technicians had significantly higher selection ability than dental students for shade B2 (P<.05).

Comparison on accuracy of porcelain color reproducibility using two colorimeters (2종의 측색기에 의한 도재 색조 재현의 정확성 비교)

  • Statement of problem: Although the use of colorimeter to improve the accuracy of tooth color measurement has increased, it is real situation that there is almost no comparative study about the accuracy among various colorimeters. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compare the accuracy of porcelain color reproducibility using ShadeEye-Ncc dental chroma meter (Shofu Inc., Kyoto, Japan) and Shadepilot$^{TM}$ system (Degudent Inc., Hanau, Germany). Material and methods: Color of 2M2 and 3M2 shade tap of Vitapan 3D Master shade guide were measured using the above two colorimeters. Porcelain specimens were fabricated through this data. The porcelain systems used were Vintage Halo Porcelain system with ShadeEye-Ncc dental chroma meter, and VitaOmega900 Porcelain system with Shadepilot$^{TM}$ system. Colors of shade tap models and porcelain specimen were measured with spectrophotometer, and calculated delta E based on the results. Results: The following results were obtained. 1. Shadepilot$^{TM}$ system showed more suitable porcelain color reproducibility compared to ShadeEye-Ncc dental chroma meter (P <.05). 2. The result showed the difference of porcelain color reproducibility according to shade of Shade tap which is model. More suitable porcelain color reproducibility was shown at 3M2 shade tap than at 2M2 shade tap (P <.05). 3. The average of ${\Delta}E*$ of porcelain specimens which was made by the two colorimeters was 4.44-6.14, so the difference of shade was shown through the naked eye. Conclusion: Shadepilot$^{TM}$ system showed more suitable porcelain color reproducibility. When using ShadeEye-Ncc dental chromameter, it will be necessary to improve accuracy through coloring various parts of the whole tooth.

Optical characteristics of resin composite before and after polymerization (광중합 전후 복합레진의 광학적 특성)

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the optical characteristics such as color and translucency changes before and after light curing, to quantify the CQ and to measure refractive indices of body and opaque shade of resin composites materials. Materials and Methods: Resin composites used in this study were A2 body and A2 opaque shade of Esthet-X, Filtek supreme, Gradia Direct, Clearfil Majesty and Beautifil II. Color and translucency changes before and after light curing were evaluated by colorimeter, the CQ was quantified by GC-MS and refractive index changes were measured by spectroscopic ellipsometer. Results: Translucency parameter (TP) was significantly increased after curing. The CQ content of body shades are higher than that of opaque shades in all resin composites. Refractive index increased after polymerization in all materials and significant difference in ${\Delta}$refractive index was found between body and opaque shade (significance level 0.05). Conclusions: For an accurate shade match, direct shade matching of resin composite should be performed by using the cured material.

A Study of the shade of between maxillary and mandibular anterior teeth in the Korean (한국인의 상하악 전치부 색조에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to spectrophotometrically evaluate the shade difference between of maxillary and mandibular anterior teeth in the Korean by the standard of vita classical shade guide using $SpectroShade^{TM}$. Material and methods: In this study, the shades of healthy anterior teeth were examined and analyzed using the digital shade analysis of $SpectroShade^{TM}$. This study examined 80 individuals in their twenties, thirties, fourties, fifities ages and 40 males and 40 females, presenting 12 healthy, unrestored maxillary and mandibular anterior teeth. Tooth brushing and oral prophylaxis were performed prior to evaluation. The $SpectroShade^{TM}$ was used to acquire images of the 12 maxillary and mandibular anterior teeth. These images were analyzed using $SpectroShade^{TM}$ Software, and shade maps of each tooth were acquired. The shade difference of upper and lower, and gender differences and ages difference were investigated and analyzed with CIE $L^{*}a^{*}b^{*}$ color order system. One-Way ANOVA test was used to find out if there were significant differences between groups tested and Sheffe multiple comparison was used to identify where the differences were. Results: 1. Shade differences were significant (P < .05) between maxillary and mandibular central incisor, lateral incisor, canine. 2. No significant differences in shade distribution were seen between lateral incisors and central incisors. 3. Canine's shade difference were more significant than central incisor's and lateral incisors's. 4. No significant differences in shade distribution were seen between genders in maxillary and mandibulr central incisor, lateral incisor, canine. 5. No significant differences in shade distribution were seen in order of years in maxillary and mandibulr central incisor, lateral incisor, canine. Conclusions: The results of this study show that 1. Shade difference was founded in maxillary and mandibular anterior teeth and ${\Delta}E^{*}$ value was more than 2.0. 2. Canine's shade difference were more significant than central incisor's and lateral incisors's and between central incisors and lateral incisors shade differences were no significant. 3. No significant differences in shade distribution were seen between genders in maxillary and mandibular anterior teeth. 4. No significant differences in shade distribution were seen in order of years grade in maxillary and mandibular anterior teeth.

Comparison of Growth Characteristics and Ginsenoside Contents of 3-Year-Old Ginseng (Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer) by Drainage Class and Shade Material in Paddy Soil (논토양에서 해가림 유형별 3년생 인삼의 생육과 진세노사이드함량 비교)

  • To select optimal shade material in paddy soil, growth characteristics and ginsenoside contents were investigated in new cultivar, 'Cheonpoong' of three-year-old ginseng cultured under three kinds of shade materials such as three-layered blue and one-layered black PE (polyethylene) net (TBPN), blue PE sheet (BPSS), and aluminium-coated PE sheet (APSS). The order of light transmission ratio and air temperature by shade materials were BPSS > APSS > TBSB among three shade materials. Average soil water tension in PDC and IDC was 64 mbar (absolute soil moisture, 25%) and 123 mbar (absolute soil moisture, 17%), respectively, and soil water tension in IDC was changed more distinctly than that of PDC by season and shade materials. Yield in PDC was distinctly decreased more than that in IDC because of the increase of discolored-leaf and rusted-root ratio. BPSS and TBPN among three shade materials were the most effective on the increase of yield in PDC and IDC, respectively. Ratio of rusty-colored root showed not significant difference by drainage class and shade materials. Contents of panaxatriol ginsenoside (Rg1, Re and Rf) were decreased in PDC, while it of panaxadiol ginsenoside (Rb1, Rc and Rd) were increased in IDC. Total ginsenoside contents of IDC was distinctly higher than that of PDC, and BPSS showed the highest contents among three shade materials regardless of poorly and imperfectly drainage class.

Dynamic Behavior of an Electric Sun Visor for Automotive Windshields (차량 윈드실드용 전동 선바이저의 동특성 연구)

  • In this study, we proposed a novel concept of electric sun visor comprising a dark, see-through sun shade material that ensures unimpaired driver's vision with continuous control of the shade position. The shade extending from the windshield base along its surface may be subjected to severe vibration during driving unless the design parameters are carefully selected. A prototype was tested to collect acceleration data during driving. Based on the test data, an ADAMS dynamics model was validated. The mechanism of sun visor was optimized to minimize vibration based on the dynamics model, experimental design, and response surface method.

Possible Factors Affecting Crack Development in Ginseng Roots (인삼뿌리의 균열발생에 관한 연구)

  • The development of cracking in ginseng roots was studied to elucidate the factors affecting it in the field. The cracking of 6-year-old ginseng roots harvested in late October callld be induced in 2 days after soaking in water or in watersatllrated soil. However, it callld be slowed down by approximately 10 days when the roots were kept at a low temperature(5$^{\circ}C$). Roots excavated in late May did not develop cracking tinder the conditions tested. There was no significant difference between rice-straw shade and P.E. net shade in the rate of cracked ginseng roots. Which varied with ginseng varieties in relation to shade material. The rate of cracked roots was about 40% in 6-year plants, but it was extremely high (55.6%) in rusty roots. Healing of the wound formed by cracking was generally low but varied between harvest years.

Effect of CAD/CAM ceramic thickness on shade (CAD/CAM 세라믹의 두께가 색조에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives: The purpose of the study was to investigate the effect of CAD/CAM ceramic thickness on shade. Methods: 24 disk-shaped ceramic specimens (E.Max CAD & Empress CAD, $12mm{\times}12mm$) were prepared and divided into 4 groups (n=6). Ceramic specimens in 2 thicknesses (0.8 mm, 1.0 mm) were made low translucency(LT) shade A2. All specimens were measured as L*, a*, b* using spectrophotometer. The color differences(${\Delta}E$ values) between the specimen and a control target block ($12{\times}12{\times}1.2mm$) were calculated. Two-way ANOVA performed between 2 groups(material and thickness). Results: As the thickness increased, the $L^*$ (for all groups) and $b^*$ value (for all groups) increased and the $a^*$ value(for LR group) decreased. The mean color differences caused by thickness was acceptible (${\Delta}E$ > 2) for group LD1. But the mean color differences by thickness were not selected (${\Delta}E$ < 2) for group LD2, LR1, LR2. Conclusions: The different thickness can influence the final color of CAD/CAM ceramic.
