The purpose of this study is to investigate the degree of influence on the elderly’s life adjustment and decision making in the family. For these research tasks the data were collected through interview. the respondents were 296 of man and woman elderly who lived in JeonJu. It was analyzed by various statistical methods such as Frequency, Percentile, ANOVA, correlate, t-test, Multiple Regression Analysis. The finding of this study are as follows; 1) Decision-making of the elderly in family had significant differences I the area of sex, the sum of monthly personal expenses, satisfaction level of personal expenses, subjective economic level and self-esteem in the order named. 2) Elderly life-adjustment had significant differences in the area of the residential district, the present job, the situation of a apouse, religion, education, the sum of the monthly personal expenses, health, satisfaction level of personal expenses, subjective economics level and self-esteem. 3) When we observe relationship with the elderly decision-making in family and life-adjustment, relation decision-making in family and life-adjustment appeared positively. 4) Decision-making of the elderly in family had the significant differences according to the variables such as sex, the sum of monthly personal expenses, and self-esteem in the order named, and the most influential factor among them was sex. 5) Elderly life-adjustment had the significant differences according to the variables such as self-esteem, decision-making, religion, health, the sum of the monthly personal expenses, the residential district in the order named. The most influential factor was self-esteem and the explanary of those variables for the elderly life-adjustment was 55.1%.
The purpose of the study was to investigate whether there were differences between the Paternal child rearing Involvement and the Parental Satisfaction according to child's sex, father's age and the birth order of child. The subjects surveyed were 271 fathers 132 in their thiries and 139 in their forties who live in Kwang-ju. And the children considered are 128 boys and 143 girls. Among them, first-born children are 143 members, second-born are 103, and third-born are 25. Factor analysis, frequencies, mean, standard deviation, Cronbach's α, one way-ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and step-wise regression are used for data-analysis. The main results were as follows : (1) There were some significant differences in the Paternal child rearing Involvement according to the child's sex, while there was no difference as related the father's age and the birth-order of child. (2) The were some significant differences in the father's Parental Satisfaction which is involved child's sex and the father's age, but there was no difference as to the birth-order of child. (3) There were some significant differences between the Paternal Child rearing Involvement and the Parental Satisfaction, and between its subfactor and the Parental Satisfaction, too. (4) The result of the step-wise regression, which analyses the Paternal child rearing Involvement and the background variables as to father's Parental Satisfaction, shows the Parent-child relationship variable (accounted for about32% of the general variation), spouse support, support of children, general satisfaction, and parent's role conflict at intensity in order. Of the above mentioned five fields, house-activities were the first factor in determining this order. And the personal interaction plays an important role in fulfilling general satisfaction and the support of children. The leisure-action factor was the second explanatory factor in establishing the parent-child relationship. Finally father's age was the fourth explanatory factor in assessing the parent-child relationship variable considering the background variables.
The present study was designed to answer the following questions : The first overall question had to do with the relationship between sex-role identity and self-esteem-more specifically, is androgyny or masculinity more importamt in explaining the variation in self-esteem? The second overall question had to do with the degree to which the relationship between sex-role identity and self-esteem is a universal or a culturally specific phenomeon-more specifically, is the relationship between sex-role identity and self-esteem the same in Korean and American cultures? The Bem Sex Role Inventory and the Coopersmith Self Esteem Inventory were administered to 208 American college students and 207 Korean college students, respectively, in introductory sociology classes. The BSRI and SEI are standardized for American subjects and written in English. Prior to administering these instruments to Korean subjects, they were translated ito the Korean Language. In order to fully explore the data, qualitative as well as quantitative measurement of the BSRI were used, and both factorial and regression analyses were performed in this study. The most important cross-cultural differences found in the present study are directly related to the two research questions. In the U.S. sample, masculine attributes were found to be more important in explaining self-esteem. On the other hand, androgynous attributes were positively related to self-esteem in the Korean sample. These findings also provide the answer to the second question. That is, different cross-cultural patterns of relationship were found between sexrole identity and self-esteem, providing some support for a culture-bound relationship. These cross-cultural differences were discussed in terms of both confucian values held by Koreans and Bakan's suggestion of a positive relationship between agentic characteristics and modernization.

The present investigation was carried out to study the possible cause for reciprocal difference in silkworm hybrids. By utilising the polyvoltine race Pure Mysore (PM) and newly evolved breeds (CSR2, CSR5, CSR16 and CSR17), the direct and reciprocal crosses of polyvoltine ${\times}$ bivoltine and also bivoltine hybrids were studied. The hybrids of polyvoltine ${\times}$ bivoltine (direct) are superior to their reciprocal crosses in respect of cocoon yield, cocoon weight and filament length. The reciprocal crosses of polyvoltine ${\times}$ bivoltine are superior to their direct crosses in respect of fecundity and short larval duration. No significant differences were observed in the characters like cocoon shell ratio, raw silk percentage, denier, reelability and neatness in both polyvoltine ${\times}$ bivoltine direct crosses and their reciprocals. The expression of cocoon characters as a function of sex revealed that direct crosses (polyvoltine ${\times}$ bivoltine) showed higher cocoon weight, pupal weight, shell weight and longer filament length in females than the reciprocal crosses (bivoltine ${\times}$ polyvoltine), where as these characters in males were almost the same in both direct and reciprocal crosses, indicating that the sex-linked genetic factor played a more important role. it was clear that difference in cocoon yield observed in reciprocal crosses of polyvoltine ${\times}$ bivoltine was due to the low cocoon and shell weight in females which was turn due to presence of early maturity genes (Lme) linked with sex-chromosome (X) which effect on larvae period of the silkworm. In bivoltine hybrids, i.e., both direct and their reciprocals crosses, all the characters viz., hatching percentage, larval duration, survival, cocoon weight, cocoon shell weight, cocoon shell ratio, raw silk percentage, filament length, denier, reelability and neatness did not show any significant difference (except number of eggs laid by moth) which could account for presence of same maturity genes (Lm) in both direct and reciprocal crosses. it was clear that reciprocal differences occur when the hybrids are prepared from the parental strains with different voltinism.
Background and Aims : Nerve conduction study is invaluable in clinical neurology, especially for assessing peripheral neuropathies. Abnormal nerve conduction studies may result not only from peripheral nerve dysfunction itself, but also from other various mechanical, technical, and physiological factors such as age, sex, height and temperature. So we conducted this study to establish the our own normal values. Methods : In this study, from March. 1997 to July. 1998, 40 Korean adults among person came to Health Promotion Center over the age of 20 without any suspicion of neurological deficits were analysed to determine the effect of compound effects of several physiological factors. Results : The nerve conduction velocities of the upper extremity and proximal segments were faster than those of the lower extremity and distal segments. Physiological factors such as age, height and temperature affect the results of nerve conduction studies in multiple regression analysis. The sex difference is recognized over peroneal motor nerve. There are no sex differences in amplitude transformed into normal distribution. The significant physiological factor affecting the amplitude of nerve conduction is age, whereas height and temperature play no role. Conclusions : In multiple regression analysis, height is widespread variable for the nerve conduction velocities and temperature is important variable for lower extremities. The parametric statistical analysis cannot be applied to the amplitude of the compound muscle or nerve action potentials because of marked left shift in distribution. Sqareroot transformation of the CMAP and CNAP may be useful in normalizing the distribution. The most significant physiological factor affection the amplitude is age. Sex differences are not seen in nerve conduction study.
Purpose : This retrospective study was performed to investigate the prevalence of the idiopathic osteosclerosis (IO) in Korean malocclusion patients according to age, sex, and the Angle's classification of malocclusion. Materials and Methods : This study consisted of 2,001 randomly selected patients from the Department of Orthodontics at the Gangneung-Wonju National University Dental Hospital, Korea. The prevalence of IO in Korean malocclusion patients was recorded using their panoramic radiographs, and the following parameters were surveyed; age, sex, and the Angle's classification of malocclusion. The chi-square test was analyzed to determine the statistical significance of differences in the prevalence of IO between age, sex, and the Angle's classification of malocclusion. Results : The prevalence of IO in the jaws was 6.7% in a total of 2,001 examined orthodontic patients. The majority of IO was found in the mandible (96.58%). The 30-39 age group showed the highest prevalence of IO (9.60%). There was a higher prevalence in females (6.89%) than in males (6.45%). The prevalence of IO in Angle Class I group (7.07%) was the most frequent, followed by Angle Class II group (6.72%), and Angle Class III group (6.40%). However, there was no statistical significance in sex and Angle's classification of malocclusion. Conclusion : The prevalence of IO in malocclusion patients showed the differences between various age groups and most of them were found in the mandibular posterior area. However, sex and the type of malocclusion are not to be considered as a contributing factor of IO.

Background/Aims: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is less prevalent in females than males, but it affects mortality in females. There may be sex differences in the clinical characteristics of COPD. Methods: We analyzed the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey dataset from 2007 to 2018. We compared the clinical characteristics and comorbidities in subjects with COPD according to sex. We adjusted the multivariate logistic regression of lung cancer prevalence according to COPD and sex by age and smoking amount. Results: Females with COPD tended to be older than males with COPD (64.1 ± 0.4 yr vs. 62.3 ± 0.2 yr, respectively, p < 0.001). Approximately 89% of males with COPD had a smoking history, while 86% of females with COPD were non-smokers (p < 0.001). Household income was lower (p < 0.001) and asthma and overall malignancy were more prevalent in females with COPD than males with COPD (25.5 vs. 11.6%, respectively, p < 0.001; (6.3 vs. 5.4%, respectively, p < 0.001). However, lung cancer was more common in males with COPD than females with COPD (0.9 vs. 0.1%, respectively, p < 0.001). Lung cancer prevalence increased in males with moderate COPD compared to subjects without COPD (OR, 4.409; 95% CI, 1.741-9.419). Conclusions: Females with COPD had a lower smoking rate, household income, and lung cancer prevalence than males with COPD. More active COPD screening is needed for women of low socioeconomic status, even if they do not smoke.
The purpose of the study was to investigate relationships among self-esteem of the elderly men and women in the economic state, health state, and degree of sex role identity. The subjects were 246 elderly men and women living in Chonnam. Statistics were Frequency, Percentage. Mean, Standard Deviation, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, ANOVA and Regression analysis. Major results obtained were as follows ; 1) The mean scores of self-esteem in the elderly men and women were 19.26 and 18.84 respectively 2) There were meaningful differences in self-esteem according to health state. economic state. sex role identity in both elderly men and women. And. in the elderly men and Women. the highest influencing variables on their self-esteem were the economic state and health state, and the sex role identity respectively.
The purposes of this research were to find the general trends of sexual harassment at work and to investigate the differences of related variables. The data were obtained through 321 employee living in Kwangju. The major findings were as follows : 1) 53.0% of respondents reported that they had experienced the offence of sexual harassment at work at least once. And 57.9% of respondents reported that they had experienced the victimization of sexual harassment at work at least once. 2) The most apparent response of victimization at work was ‘anger’. And the most frequent coping behavior was ‘smiling or joking’. 3) The offence style of sexual harassment was different by sex, men's marriage, and sex-role attitude. The victimization style of sexual harassment was different by sex, job, women rate in workplace, attitude toward sexual harassment, and sex-role attitude.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate suicidal ideation and its associated factors according to sex in the elderly, by focusing on socio-demographic and health characteristics. Methods: Data were derived from the fifth Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES V-2, 2011). The subjects were 1,464 elderly aged 65 years or more (620 male and 844 female). The SPSS/WIN 21.0 program was used for data analysis. Results: Suicidal ideation was positively associated with depression and stress in both male and female subjects. For elderly men, those aged 75 years or more, had no spouse, and had activity limitations showed a higher suicidal ideation risk. For elderly women, those who had low a education level and were perceived to be unhealthy showed a higher suicidal ideation risk. Conclusion: Nurses should consider sex differences when designing suicide prevention programs for the elderly.
