As the occurrence of a crime is dependent on different factors, their correlations are beyond the ordinary cognitive range. Owing to this limitation, systems face difficulty in correlating various factors, thereby requiring the assistance of artificial intelligence (AI) to overcome such limitations. Therefore, AI has become indispensable for crime prediction. Crimes can cause severe and irrevocable damage to a society. Recently, big data has been introduced for developing highly accurate models for crime prediction. Prediction of night crimes should be given significant consideration, because crimes primarily occur during nights, when the spatiotemporal characteristics become vulnerable to crimes. Many environmental factors that influence crime rate are applied for crime prediction, and their influence on crime rate may differ based on temporal characteristics and the nature of crime. This study aims to identify the environmental factors that influence sex and theft crimes occurring at night and proposes an artificial neural network (ANN) model to predict sex and theft crimes at night in random areas. The crime data of A district in Seoul for 12 years (2004-2015) was used, and environmental factors that influence sex and theft crimes were derived through multiple regression analysis. Two types of crime prediction models were developed: Type A using all environmental factors as input data; Type B with only the significant factors (obtained from regression analysis) as input data. The Type B model exhibited a greater accuracy than Type A, by 3.26 and 9.47 % higher for theft and sex crimes, respectively.
This is a descriptive research study to explore factors related to the perception of digital sex crimes among university students of the MZ generation in Korea. Data were collected by conducting a survey of 150 university students in Korea. As a result, the variable that showed the highest relevance to the recognition of digital sex crimes among MZ generation university students was sexual perception (β=-0.390, p<.001). Total explanatory power was 25.2% after adding gender (β=0.207, p=.018) and sexual attitude (β=0.157, p=.045). Our results suggest that customized education in consideration of factors related to digital sex crime perception is needed to form and improve a correct perception of digital sex crimes among MZ generation university students.
The interest in the prevention of sex crimes and social secure is growing as the number of cases by sexual offences becomes higher. Although various punishable ways have been introduced so far, increasing sex crime is still going on. Thus, effectiveness of legal systems for preventing crimes is questionable. More recently, the approach for environmental criminology has been paid attention for reducing criminal opportunities through environmental design and management of crimes. This study attempts to look over the spatial distribution of sexual crimes in the context of environmental criminology, and examine the correlation between regional environmental factors and the occurrence of sexual crimes empirically. To do this, we visualized the map for sex crimes at the macro-scale and explored the spatial distribution of sexual crimes and spatial clusters based on various spatial statistics using sex crime data published online by the ministry of gender equality and family. Also, we derived the environmental characteristics of sexual crimes by multivariate regression analysis on a large number of explanatory variables of regional environment. Our results will help to understand the current situation and spatial aspects of sex crimes in the nation more realistically. Further, it is respected that our results might be useful basic information for establishing regional policies and plans for the prevention of the sexual crime and enhanced public policing.
The definition of Crime Indictable Upon Complaint (CIC) is crimes which can be prosecuted only with complaints from the victim or his/her direct parents. Sex crimes are the representative examples, rapes and indecent assaults. According to the research referenced in this paper, 74% of sex crimes which had been penalized based on Republic of Korea (ROK) Criminal Code amounts rape and indecent assault are CIC. However, only 20% of perpetrators were confined, and the rest received non-confinement or non-prosecution determination. The review of criminal history checks reveals that 67% of the perpetrators had criminal histories and 39% of them had more than three documented offenses. The CIC was established in order to protect the victim's rights and dignity, respecting the victim's opinion regarding the incident. All kinds of sex crimes then should have been the CIC, but those crimes such as Injury Resulting from Rape, Special Rape, Rape by Special Modus Operandi, Sexual Assault among Relatives and Domestic Violence which have to guarantee the opinion of the victims are prescribed as non-CIC. We therefore conclude that the CIC should be abolished. The abolition of CIC will play an important role in crime prevention because severe penalties for sex crimes will be imposed on the perpetrators. In addition, it will help the sex crime victims retrieve their dignity by spreading recognition widely through the community that sexual assault is not only a social assault but an infringement against human rights.
This study collected and analyzed articles related to military sex crimes covered in the news from February 2019 to May 28, 2022 in order to identify problems arising from sexual crimes in the military. In order to understand the current status of military sexual violence reported in the media, articles were collected using BIGKinds, a news big data analysis system, and using the Textom program, the study was conducted using frequency analysis by period, word cloud, and semantic network analysis techniques for keywords. The study was conducted using the technique. As a result of data analysis, first, it was confirmed that the public's attention was focused on the victims in reports related to sex crimes within the military. Second, the problem of the lukewarm system of the relevant authorities in responding to sex crimes was revealed. Third, there was a lack of support for victims of sex crimes.
In this study, actual contact status to cyber obscene materials of high school students was grasped and the influence of contacts to cyber obscene materials on sex crime was analyzed. For this purpose, actual contacts status to cyber obscene materials, influence of cyber obscene materials, attitude of sex, and consciousness of sex crime were surveyed and accordingly correlation between each survey result were totally analyzed. This study result revealed that there is a close correlation between contacts to cyber obscene materials and sex crime. Obscene materials wrongly lead students who have big sexual curiosity to create distorted sexual behaviors and also commit sex crimes.
Although juvenile delinquency has been continually decreasing, property and traffic crimes have been increasing. The age of delinquents or adolescent criminals are getting younger, and the number of female involved in delinquency or crimes has been increasing. The most frequently researched topic has been factors of causal effects on juvenile delinquency and development of counseling programs for the delinquents. Other studies have been investigating descriptive data, analyzing differences by sex, or categorizing delinquency behaviors by type, and suggesting political alternatives for restoration of juvenile delinquency. There have been several academic issues on the conceptual definition of delinquency, shift in research topics, and research methods. There have been further discussions on the imminent values of making relevant policies based on the results of multi-disciplinary research, developing the preventive and therapeutic programs and career counseling programs, and working with the experts from local communities.
It is a newly defined concept of digital sex crimes as the sex crime pattern in Korea is integrated with digital technology. After examining the current status and response of digital sex crimes in Korea, legal and institutional gaps are identified. It is also aimed at drawing up appropriate responses to domestic situations compared to cases in major foreign countries. This study adopted the mode of literature research. It used related data from government agencies, various statistics and survey data, seminar data organized by the National Assembly office, women's organizations, and research reports. The ultimate goal is to derive the problem situation by analyzing the current system. The results of this study are to discuss digital sex crimes that are being expanded and reproduced by the development of digital media. It also points out that the legal vacuum caused by the law's failure to keep up with the law needs to be continued. Our conclusion is that we should actively accept best practices from abroad. In addition, it is necessary to create a community value in which all members of society become "monitors" in the recognition that they may be perpetrators or victims.

With the advent of the non-face-to-face era, a new type of digital sexual crime with avatars is emerging on the Metaverse virtual reality platform. Due to the lack of clearly established in legal and regulatory systems, it is challenging to punish offenders and acquire digital proof for sexual crimes using these avatars. This research aims to suggest a service and technological solution is development platform that may assist crime prevention and the collection of digital evidence, with a particular emphasis on digital sex crimes that occur in the metaverse, a virtual reality realm. This study explores the reasons behind the difficulty of legal application in the metaverse and then determines the types of digital sex crimes that may occur in the metaverse. In addition, it is suggested what service components the metaverse should contain from the stage of construction and design, can be utilized what element of metaverse in order to prevent illegal activity of avatars.
This study proposes a sex crime prevention application for single female households. After analyzing the current status of single-person households, crime status in Gimhae, and existing sex crime applications, 15 women in their 20s and 30s living alone were surveyed by users, including cultural probes and contextual inquiry. Insight obtained through user research using the service design tool confirmed that it has a positive effect on user satisfaction in the production of the application. Based on the results of usability assessment, it is a follow-up research task to propose and commercialize actual production outputs for the prevention of sex crimes against single-person household women by further developing the sex crime prevention mobile applications that are the output of this study.
