MOUSE TRAP 모델을 이용한 하수관거내 수질변화 예측 (Estimation of Water Quality Variation in Sewer Network using MOUSE TRAP Model)

  • One of the major problems associated with operation of domestic sewer lines involves hydraulic problems such as insufficient conveyance capacity, exceeding maximum velocity, and deficiency of minimum velocity. It has also been pointed out that influent concentration lower than design concentration of pollutants, which is mainly caused by unidentified inflow and infiltration, degrades the operational efficiency of many sewage treatment plants (STPs). A computer-added analysis method supporting a coupled simulation of sewage quality and quantity is essentially required to evaluate the status of existing STPs and to improve their efficiency by a proper sewer rehabilitation work. In this study, dynamic water quality simulations were conducted using MOUSE TRAP to investigate the principal parameters that governs the changes of BOD, ${NH_4}^+$, and ${PO_4}^{3-}$3- concentrations within the sewer networks based on data acquired through on-site and laboratory measurements. The BOD, ${NH_4}^+$ and ${PO_4}^{3-}$3- concentrations estimated by MOUSE TRAP was lower than theoretical pollution loads because of sedimentation and decomposition in the sewer. The results revealed that sedimentation is a most important factor than other biological reactions in decreasing pollutant load in the sewers of C-city. The sensitivity analysis of parameters pertaining to water quality changes indicated that the effect of the BOD decay rate, the initial DO concentration, the half-saturation coefficient of dissolved BOD, and the initial sediment depth is marginal. However, the influence of settling rate and temperature is relatively high because sedimentation and precipitation, rather than biological degradation, are dominant processes that affect water quality in the study sewer systems.

Diversity and Abundance of Ammonia-Oxidizing Bacteria in Activated Sludge Treating Different Types of Wastewater

  • The diversity and abundance of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB) in activated sludge were compared using PCR-DGGE and real-time PCR assays. Activated sludge samples were collected from five different types of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) mainly treating textile, paper, food, and livestock wastewater or domestic sewage. The composition of total bacteria determined by PCR-DGGE was highly diverse between the samples, whereas the community of AOB was similar across all the investigated activated sludge. Total bacterial numbers and AOB numbers in the aerated mixed liquor were in the range of $1.8{\times}10^{10}$ to $3.8{\times}10^{12}$ and $1.7{\times}10^6$ to $2.7{\times}10^{10}$ copies/l, respectively. Activated sludge from livestock, textile, and sewage treating WWTPs contained relatively high amoA gene copies (more than $10^5$ copies/l), whereas activated sludge from food and paper WWTPs revealed a low number of the amoA gene (less than $10^3$ copies/l). The value of the amoA gene copy effectively showed the difference in composition of bacteria in different activated sludge samples and this was better than the measurement with the AOB 16S rRNA or total 16S rRNA gene. These results suggest that the quantification of the amoA gene can help monitor AOB and ammonia oxidation in WWTPs.

GC/MS를 이용한 수질환경시료 중 personal care products의 분석 (Determination of personal care products in aquatic environmental samples by GC/MS)

  • 항균제 및 자외선 차단물질, 유기인계 난연제 등과 같은 personal care products는 개인이 일상생활에서 광범위하게 사용하는 비누, 화장품, 치약 등에 포함된 합성유기화합물로 하 폐수 처리시설에서 완벽하게 제거되지 않고 생활하수에 포함된 상당수의 양이 환경 중으로 배출되고 있다. 외국사례의 경우 하천, 해양, 토양, 저질, 생물상 등 다양한 환경매체에서 검출되고 있으며, 잔류성 생물농축성이 있어 지속적으로 노출시 생태계 및 인간의 건강에 심각한 영향을 끼칠 우려가 있다. 본 연구에서는 수질환경시료 중 15종의 personal care products를 액-액추출하여 GC/MS로 분석하였으며, 방법검출한계는 $0.004\sim0.273\;{\mu}g/L$의 범위를 나타내었다. 하천수에서는 TCEP, TCPP 등 2종이 검출되었으며, 하수처리장 시료에서는 triclosan, 4-MBC, EHMC, BP-3, TCEP, TPP, TBEP 등 7종이 검출되었다.

유수소통을 통한 태화강 적조해결 방안 연구 (A Study on Taehwa River Red Tide Solution through Stream Flow)

  • 최근 하수관거 매설과 하수종말처리장 등의 건설로 인해 도시하천의 수질이 크게 개선되고 있으나, 하 폐수 처리시설의 부족으로 하천으로 유입되는 다양한 오염물질은 수중생태계 교란과 적조를 발생시키고 있다. 울산 태화강의 하류부는 하폭이 크고 하상경사가 매우 완만한 감조하천으로써 갈 저수기에는 유속이 매우 느리게 된다. 게다가 약 1.2km 떨어져 있는 2개 교량의 전면기초로 된 교각보호공으로 인해 흐름이 정체되고 오염물질이 퇴적되어, 수년전부터 발생하고 있는 태화강 적조의 원인이 되거나 적조를 활성화 시키고 있다. 본 연구에서는 RMA2모형을 이용하여 두 교량의 교각을 독립기초로 개선하고 흐름을 소통시킬 수 있는 통수단면을 확보했을 때, 수리학적으로 개선될 수 있는 유속과 유량의 변화폭을 모의하였다. 그 결과 유속은 최대 약 103%, 유량은 최대 61% 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 적조를 직접 소멸시킬 수는 없으나 적조발생을 억제하거나 감소시킬 수 있으며, 오염물질의 퇴적을 막아 적조발생 원인을 근원적으로 제어할 수 있는 것으로 판단된다.

친환경형 식물 정화조 시스템 개발 (The Development of An Environmentally Friendly Constructed Wetland System)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop environmentally friendly constructed wetland system in order to improve the environment. This system was constructed with two constructed wetlands andone pond. The size of the first and second wetland was 2.5m in length, 2.5m in width and 0.7m in depth for the first wetland and 0.6m in depth for the second wetland. Those were filled with pebbles with about 16~32mm in diameter from bottom to 20cm depth and onto the pebbles with about 0.5 mm in diameter sand in depth 40cm. The first constructed Wetland was planted with pragmites communis. The second was planted with Iris pseudoacorus and Acorus calamus var. aneustatus.A vertical flow system was used in the first constructed wetland and a horizontal flow system in the second. The water of outflow from the second wetland flowed into the pond. This system was installed in Yangpyeong, Kyunggi Province. The Quality of inflow and outflow were analyzed at the first time from May 20 to May 30, 2002 and at second time from June 10 to July 18, 2002. At the second period wetland was implanted with microbes in order to improve the efficiency of constructed wetlands. Following standard methods for wastewater, BOD, COD, SS, T-N and T-P were analyzed. This system was effective in reducing COD, BOD, SS, T-N and T-P level. The result shows that wastewater was purified through constructed wetland system with plants and highly purified with microbes especially in T-P. The Average total phosphorous concentration of influent and effluent in constructed wetland with microbes was 2.8mg/${\ell}$ L and 0.21mg/${\ell}$ respectively. This system can be used in rural community because this is not only effective on purification of sewage but also is harmonized with the surrounding nature.

우리나라 농업용수 수질오염 현황과 개선대책 (A Status of Agricultural Water Quality and Improvable Countermeasure in Korea)

  • The water quality in the rural areas is degrading due to a variety of causes such as the increase of the urban sewage and industrial wastes, the disposal of solid wastes, the growth of livestock waste, the growth of leisure facilities, the establishment of agricultural industry estates and etc. The water pollutants are scarce while the effluent is increasing from wide scattered sources. The technology specifically designed for the rural wastes water treatment plant needs to be implemented with improvement of agricultural water quality. 1. An integrated management measures against water pollution sources. The prevention of water pollution is the best measures in the environmental pollution. Hence, the most effective measures needs to be against the sources. Small-scale water treatment plants needs to be constructed in each village in the rural areas. As for the industrial effluent, the effluent discharge needs to be strictly monitored. Government subsidy for the establishment of treatment plant for livestock wastes is necessary. 2. The establishment of national-wide network for agricultural water quality. The network for agricultural water quality have been operated to conserve the agricultural water quality, and to develop management policies by the assessment of water pollution in the rural areas. The results of agricultural water quality network indicates that the water quality is degrading not only around urban areas but also in the distant rural areas, and the water quality at the pumping stations and weirs is worse than that of reservoirs. 3. The legal, systematic, and technical approaches for the agricultural water quality management. The actions currently implemented for the improvement of agricultural water quality involve temporary measures such as the improvement of irrigation facilities. These contingency measures are not effective in the long-term, and sometimes bring secondary pollution. Therefore, integrated measures covering the whole water environment such as the flow, quality, river morphology, aquatic ecosystem, and the surrounding environment, need be invented and implemented. Besides, the legal, systematic, and technical frameworks for the management are not fully established so far. The technology for the treatment of rural water pollution should be refined afterwards, and the research for the development of rural waste water treatment plant should be carried out.

하수오니 시용이 옥수수 및 배추 생육과 토양의 화학성 변화에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Sewage Sludge Application on Growth of Corn and Chinese Cabbage and Chemical Properties of Soil)

  • 본 연구는 하수오니의 농경지 이용 가능성을 밝히고자 중랑, 가좌, 나주 및 용인 하수 종말 처리장에서 채취한 하수오니를 처리한 토양에서 옥수수와 배추를 재배하여 생육 및 토양의 화학성 변화에 미치는 영향을 검토하였다. 옥수수의 생육조사결과 오니 처리율이 증가할수록 초기 생육이 저조하였다. 배추의 생육 조사 결과 초기 3주간은 12.5 및 $25Mg\;ha^{-1}$ 처리구가 좋은 생육을 보였고 후기에는 50및 $100Mg\;ha^{-1}$처리구의 생육이 더 좋은 결과를 나타내었다. 그러나 최대 생장을 보인 처리구도 화학비료 시용구에서의 생육에는 미치지 못했다. 양이온치환용량, 유기물 및 질소의 경우는 처리간의 차이는 뚜렷하였지만 재배 전후에는 큰 차이가 없었다. Na, K, Ca, Mg 등의 염기류들도 비슷한 경향을 보였다. 토양포화침출액의 EC는 재배 전과 비교하여 재배후에 감소하였고 오니처리량이 많을수록 감소폭이 커서 재배전보다 오니 처리량 간의 차이가 줄었으나 유료인산 함량은 재배중 뚜렷한 증가 경향이 나타났다. 따라서 오니시용기준은 질소가 아닌 인산을 기준으로 하여 처리량을 결정하며 부족분은 화학비료로 보충하도록 하는 것이 바람직한 것으로 사료된다.

하수처리오니 알칼리 안정화 처리시설에서의 암모니아 발생특성 (Characteristics of Ammonia in Alkaline Stabilization Facility of Sludge from Sewage Treatment Plant)

  • 본 연구는 하수처리시설의 유기성슬러지가 알칼리 안정화 처리시설을 거쳐 발생되는 암모니아의 특성을 조사하였다. 암모니아 검지관을 통해 알칼리 안정화 처리시설의 혼합 및 양생 공정에서 87.78 ppm($66.62mg/m^3$) ~ 1,933 ppm($1,467.01mg/m^3$) 으로 높은 농도의 암모니아가 검출 되었다. 이는 하수처리오니의 질소산화물이 생석회와 혼합되며 암모니아로 변환되는 것으로 예상된다. 일부 시설에서는 황화수소, 메틸메르캅단이 비교적 높은 농도로 검출되었으나, 대부분의 시설에서는 암모니아를 제외한 악취 물질은 검출되지 않았다. 공정 중 암모니아의 농도는 일반적으로 혼합 > 양생 > 반출 > 저장 > 건조 > 입고 순으로 높게 나타났다. 현재 운영 중인 5개 알칼리 안정화 처리시설에서 발생된 악취 물질들은 황산과 차아염소산 등을 사용하여 습식처리하는 것으로 조사되었다. 각 시설은 1 ppm($0.76mg/m^3$), 50 ppm($37.95mg/m^3$) 또는 100 ppm($75.89mg/m^3$)으로 방출되도록 설계되었으나 설계 기준을 만족하지 못하는 것으로 나타났다. 암모니아의 경우, 일부 알칼리 안정화 처리시설은 노동부가 정한 노출기준을 초과하는 것으로 조사되었다. 이것은 향후 근로자의 안전을 위해 적절한 환기가 필요함을 의미하고 있다. 또한, 암모니아를 포함한 악취물질이 시설의 부지경계선에서 검지관으로 검출되지 않았으나, 현재의 운전상태로 볼 때, 미량의 악취물질이 존재할 것으로 판단된다.

Rule-Based Fuzzy-Neural Networks Using the Identification Algorithm of the GA Hybrid Scheme

  • This paper introduces an identification method for nonlinear models in the form of rule-based Fuzzy-Neural Networks (FNN). In this study, the development of the rule-based fuzzy neural networks focuses on the technologies of Computational Intelligence (CI), namely fuzzy sets, neural networks, and genetic algorithms. The FNN modeling and identification environment realizes parameter identification through synergistic usage of clustering techniques, genetic optimization and a complex search method. We use a HCM (Hard C-Means) clustering algorithm to determine initial apexes of the membership functions of the information granules used in this fuzzy model. The parameters such as apexes of membership functions, learning rates, and momentum coefficients are then adjusted using the identification algorithm of a GA hybrid scheme. The proposed GA hybrid scheme effectively combines the GA with the improved com-plex method to guarantee both global optimization and local convergence. An aggregate objective function (performance index) with a weighting factor is introduced to achieve a sound balance between approximation and generalization of the model. According to the selection and adjustment of the weighting factor of this objective function, we reveal how to design a model having sound approximation and generalization abilities. The proposed model is experimented with using several time series data (gas furnace, sewage treatment process, and NOx emission process data from gas turbine power plants).

수질오염총량관리 합류식지역의 우기시 관거이송 변화유형 (Patterns on Sewer Transfer Flow for Rain Weather Period in the Area with Combined Sewer System for the Management of TMDLs)

  • Discharged pollution load is varied as rainfall changes in the area with combined sewer system. Changes in discharged pollution load are directly related with those of sewer transfer flow. Therefore, it is important to identify the pattern of sewer transfer flow for the analysis of changes in discharged pollution load. This study reviewed the type of distribution of sewer transfer flow for 17 sewage treatment plants and developed simple formular to estimate sewer transfer flow as rainfall changes. 11 facilities showed to have some relation with rainfall in the change of sewer transfer flow but 6 facilities to have no relation. Relationships between rainfall amount and sewer transfer flow showed that 6 facilities out of 11 had relatively strong relationships above R2=0.5, which were considered to be affected directly by rainfall changes. The formular which explain the relationship between rainfall and sewer transfer flow can be applied in the analysis of rainfall effects on discharged pollution load, therefore, the more appropriate evaluation will be done.
