  • DS-CDMA is used to widely spread spectrum for a cellular mobile digital communication that maximizing users- capacity at the limited frequency bandwidth, solving technical matters with the channel. Especially, the capability of a spread spectrum receiver relied on fast code acquisition time at the demodulation. In this paper, we considered that fast code acquisition time when a spread spectrum system is designed, and existed code acquisition system set up one code epoch on a position at initial processing, but the proposed code acquisition system improved that two code epoch are set up at the same time, therefore code acquisition time is diminished in effect. • This study introduced the concept of Primacy Effect for the analysis of the observation characters by time so as to analyze the characters of information which the users observing the lobby in a public space get when they encounter the space. From the viewpoint that the first impression on any space can motivate the judgement of space and continuous activities, the time range with the observation characters which can be regarded as Primacy Effect was analyzed in the aspects of continuity and saccade. First, with the case of alignment by time on three times of continuous observation, the perception attributes of subjects were shown to be very different among one another depending on which time range was applied for alignment. Second, the subjects with low average value of continuous observation times were found to be relatively stable in "ii~iii time ranges" and the time range of "0~5.10 seconds" was known to be the time range of relatively stable analysis for the characters of subjects' primacy effect to be analyzed. Third, the change of the amount of acquired information could be examined concretely through the analysis of observation attributes by time range, and the time range of "iii time range" showed more stable changing characters than other time ranges. Fourth, in the "iii time range" set up as a proper time range for the analysis of primacy effect had higher average value of 3.9 times of observation frequency compared with 6 times of continuous observation. As a grand average, 6 times(19.3) of average observation value was between 3 times(21.3) and 9 times(16.9), which enabled to set up 6 times of continuous observation as the number of observation times for stable analysis of primacy effect.

  • PURPOSES: The purpose of this paper is to estimate expected effects on traffic operational and economic aspects of 2+1 roads application in Korea. METHODS : Micro simulation study using VISSIM 5.0 was used to analyze the operation efficiency of 2+1 roads compared to two-lane highways and four-lane highways. Some scenarios for various traffic volumes were set up in order to analyze the effect of 2+1 roads under various traffic situations. Also imaginary road networks were set up for each type of roads. The MOEs to measure the operation efficiency were selected with average travel speed and delay. For analyzing economic effect of 2+1 roads, construction cost of a specific imaginary 2+1 road was compared to construction cost of a four-lane highway with same conditions. RESULTS: The results of study show that a 2+1 road is more effective with 19 percents higher average travel speed and 39 percents lower average delay than a two-lane highway. In the economic analysis, construction costs to construct a 2+1 road are saved as approximately 26.4~40.7 percents when compared to construction of four-lane highway. CONCLUSIONS: It can be concluded that 2+1 roads can improve the traffic operational level of service for two-lane highways and 2+1 roads can be applied as an effective design alternative for higher-volume two-lane highways in Korea.

  • We proposed an in situ measurement set-up and technique to measure the various electro-optic(E-O) properties of the E-O polymer. Using the proposed measurement set-up, the electro-optic effect and birefringence of unpoled side-chain E-O polymer induced by the strong dc and ac electric field were observed. The dependence of the E-O coefficients on the various poling conditions were measured with real time. To evaluate the thermal stability of the poled polymer the relaxation of the E-O effect was measured and the result was compared with well known polymer materials. The proposed measurement reduces the number of experimental steps and saves measurement time.

  • A good understanding of normal modal variability of civil structures due to varying environmental conditions such as temperature and wind is important for reliable performance of vibration-based damage detection methods. This paper addresses the quantification of wind-induced modal variability of a cable-stayed bridge making use of one-year monitoring data. In order to discriminate the wind-induced modal variability from the temperature-induced modal variability, the one-year monitoring data are divided into two sets: the first set includes the data obtained under weak wind conditions (hourly-average wind speed less than 2 m/s) during all four seasons, and the second set includes the data obtained under both weak and strong (typhoon) wind conditions during the summer only. The measured modal frequencies and temperatures of the bridge obtained from the first set of data are used to formulate temperature-frequency correlation models by means of artificial neural network technique. Before the second set of data is utilized to quantify the wind-induced modal variability, the effect of temperature on the measured modal frequencies is first eliminated by normalizing these modal frequencies to a reference temperature with the use of the temperature-frequency correlation models. Then the wind-induced modal variability is quantitatively evaluated by correlating the normalized modal frequencies for each mode with the wind speed measurement data. It is revealed that in contrast to the dependence of modal frequencies on temperature, there is no explicit correlation between the modal frequencies and wind intensity. For most of the measured modes, the modal frequencies exhibit a slightly increasing trend with the increase of wind speed in statistical sense. The relative variation of the modal frequencies arising from wind effect (with the maximum hourly-average wind speed up to 17.6 m/s) is estimated to range from 1.61% to 7.87% for the measured 8 modes of the bridge, being notably less than the modal variability caused by temperature effect.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a life planning program for retired elderly people. This program is not a preparation program for elderly people prior to their retirement but a readjustment and re-planning their life after retirement. This program help retired elderly people to solve the life problem and set up a affirmative ones future image. Also this program pay regard to social, home backgrounds of this generation. The program consists of four session curriculums session 1 is entitled to &Make my future by oneself&, session 2 is &Enjoy healthy life as much as one can&, session 3 is &Have a heart for family& and session 4 is &Set up a mature old age&. A fled study has been conducted with ten retired elderly people who want to participated in the program voluntarily. 4 sessions each of which consists of 2 hours were performed at Korean Association of Retired Persons. Field test for program evaluation is designed to three steps: pre-test, post-test and one month follow-up test to measure the effectiveness of the program. According to evaluation results, the program shows a significantly positive effect on the improvement of elderly people's understanding about elderly life. At the one month follow-up assessment, the effect of program is still remained strongly even though there is a Partial slight increase or reduction which is not statistically significant. Most of the program participants have expressed high level of satisfaction with the program. For further study, we need various contents which are suited to larger group with diverse socio0-demographic backgrounds. At the same time, the program has diverse instruction methods which are pertinent to levels of participants. Also, the program needs to continuous adjustment to the next generation with their social, home backgrounds.

  • Purpose: This study examined the effects of curl-up using XCO® on trunk muscle activation in healthy adults. Methods: This study design was a single-blind randomized controlled trial. Twelve participants were enrolled in this study. The subjects were instructed to perform curl-up exercise in STCU (straight curl-up), LTCU (left twist curl-up), RTCU (right twist curl-up), TWCU (twist curl-up), and PPCU (power push curl-up). Electromyography was used to assess the percent maximal voluntary isometric contraction (%MVIC) of the rectus abdominis (RA), external oblique (EO), internal oblique (IO), and erector spinae (ES) muscles. The data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA with a repeated measure. The statistical significance level was set to α=0.05 Results: The IO showed significant differences in the main effect of the group and the interactions between the group and exercise (p<0.05). In particular, the IO represented the interactions between group and exercise in the RTCU and PPCU (p<0.05). The RA, EO, and ES did not show significant interactions between the group and exercise (p>0.05). The RA, IO, and EO showed significant differences in the main effect of the group (p<0.05). The EO showed a significant difference in the main effect of exercise (p<0.05). Conclusion: These findings suggest that XCO® can be used to increase the muscle activation of the internal oblique, which is the lumbar stabilizing muscle, when XCO® is combined in the curl-up exercise with rotation. In the future, research on the intensity, frequency, and duration of XCO® exercise will be needed according to the individual characteristics and preferences.
