  • Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the current status of treatments and patients with interstitial cystitis, and then map out a strategy for development of generalized-treatments for interstitial cystitis in Traditional Korean Medicine. Methods: We selected research paper from various databases such as PubMed, Google, KStudy, KoreanTK, OIM, and KOMS. Also, to understand current tendencies of medical cost related with interstitial cystitis, we requested Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service clinical data from 2007 to 2011. Results: It was reported that treatment of interstitial cystitis using Traditional Korean Medicine was effective. However, patients of this usually visit a Western medical center rather than seek Traditional Korean Medicine. To take charge of clinical fields related with interstitial cystitis by Traditional Korean Medicine, we need more research and experiments of interstitial cystitis using Traditional Korean Medicine, and we must make a standardized protocol. Conclusions: Various studies related with interstitial cystitis using Traditional Korean Medicine will have to be undertaken. We expect that Traditional Korean Medicine will play a role in treatment of interstitial cystitis.

Methods : We searched from Korean Traditional Knowledge Portal(KTKP), Reserach Information Sharing Service(RISS), National Discovery for Science Leader(NDSL) and PubMed. We selected among the papers published from 2005 to 2019 using terms related to 'Atopic dermatitic & Allergy diseases & Probiotics'. Results : 41 papers were selected from the database worldwidely. In these collected 41 related theses, there were 14 experimental studies(34.1%), 16 clinical studies( 39.0%), 11 review studies (26.9%). 23 papers(76.7%) insisted that the effects is but 9 papers(30%) said not effective. Conclusion : The effects of probiotics in atopic dermatitis is investigated positively, however, we have to consider the methods to approach the result including the sort, amount of probiotics, how to culture, how to eat and so on.

  • Due to lack of an information system regarding the status of using home-visit nursing (HVN), it has barriers of providing improvement of the HVN for management of elderly health care in Korea. The twofold aims of the current review are to expose the existing agendas for HVN and to suggest the political implications for HVN of Korea based on the transition process and revised HVN system of Japan. This review suggests that an information evaluation system has to precede for HVN services in detail. And, the service provided per manpower should be assessed by separating the code of manpower (registered nurse, nurse aide, dental hygienist) as well as securing detailed and precise information on the HVN services. The other suggestion, development of a community-based home health care nursing model in order to provide necessary services for long-term health insurance beneficiaries. In addition, a master plan for health care for elderly should be established at the national level in order to establish an effective home health nursing delivery system.

The study also proposed suggestions for establishing and expanding the role of nurse care coordinators in community health practice. Methods: This study derived its conclusions by conducting a literature review. Results: The definition of care coordination is a comprehensive concept that includes case management and transitional care, and can be summarized as organizer and integrator of care. According to the literature review, 12 activities and 6 roles of nurse care coordinator were identified such as a collaborator, an individualized care planer, an educator/counselor, a direct nursing care providers, a population care coordinator, and a program evaluator. Training for nurse care coordinators is currently addressed in the Primary Medical Chronic Disease Management Program. Visiting nurses working at the Eupyeong-dong visiting health and welfare service are expected to act as nurse care coordinators, and the role of nurse care coordinators will, in the future, gradually increase in various nursing facilities. Conclusion: In addition to developing competencies to act as a nurse care coordinator, there is need for approaches to health policy that develop both independent role and population focused role as care coordinators.

  • Objectives This study is aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Chuna therapy for spondylolisthesis. Methods We searched th following 10 online databases without a language restriction (National Digital Science Library [NDSL], Research Information Sharing Service [RISS], Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System [OASIS], KMBASE, MEDLINE/PubMed, Cochrane library, Ebscohost, EMBASE, Ovid, China National Knowledge Infrastru [CNKI]) to find randomized controlled trials that used Chuna therapy for spondylolisthesis. The methodological quality of each randomized controlled clinical trial was assessed using the Cochrane risk of bias tool and meta-analyses were perfomed. Results Eleven randomized controlled trials were included. Chuna therapy showed statistically significant reduction of symptoms. Meta-analysis showed positive results for Chuna therapy for spondylolisthesis in terms of therapeutic effects to traction, chinese medicine, therapeutic exercise. Conclusion In this study, we reviewed studies about Chuna therapy used for spondylolisthesis. The studies showed that Chuna therapy can significantly effective on spondylolisthesis. But according to Cochrane risk of bias evaluation method, most of the studies's risk of bias were unclear. Therefore, more high-quality studies will be needed.

  • Purpose: The objective of this study was to analyze the effects of medical staffing level as bed-to-medical staff ratio on patient outcomes as length of stay (LOS) among hospitals in Korea. Methods: Two hundred and fifty one hospitals participated in the study between January and March 2008. Data for the study was requested by an electronic data interchange from the Health Insurance Review Agency in 2008. In data analysis, SPSS WIN 15.0 program was utilized for descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression. Results: The mean score for length of stay was 13.6 days. The mean of operating bed-to-nurse ratio was 7.93:1. The predicting factors for LOS were bed-to-nurse's aide ratio, bed-to doctor's ratio, severely ill patient rate, and hospital type. These factors explained 28.9% of the variance in patient outcomes. Conclusion: This study results indicate that the relationship between medical staffing level and patient outcomes is important in the improvement of the quality of patient care. Thus, improvements in the quality of the nurse practice environment could improve patient outcomes for hospitalized patients.

  • Objective : The purpose of this study is to analyze research trends on the cost-effectiveness in acupuncture for patients with allergic rhinitis. Methods : The literature and research in allergic rhinitis was searched in electronic databases, such as National Health Service Economic Evaluation Database(NHS EED) and the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews(CDSR). The general characteristics and the results of each economic analysis such as incremental cost-effectiveness ratios(ICERs) were extracted. Results : In total, thirty seven studies were searched, and two studies were analyzed. They were cost-utility analysis(CUA)s that measured quality-adjusted life years(QALYs). One study showed that the ICER was €22,798 per QALY and was robust in sensitivity analysis. Another showed that the ICER was between €31,241 and €118,889 from society's perspective and between €20,807 and €74,585 from a third-party payer's perspective. Conclusions : Any generalization of these results needs to be made with caution given the specific effects of acupuncture and the difference of cost data in the various countries. Further studies are needed on this topic in order to demonstrate the cost-effectiveness clearly.
