  • We are concerned with a multiple replenishment contract with a purchase price discount in a supply chain. The chain is composed of one supplier, one buyer and consumers for a product. The replenishment contract is based upon the well-known (s, Q) policy but allows contracting several firmed orders at a time with a price discount. Due to a larger forecast error of the future demand, the buyer should keep a higher level of safety stock to provide the same level of service of the usual (s, Q) policy but can reduce his purchase cost by placing larger quantity. Thus there exists a trade-off between the price discount and inventory holding cost. We present a model for the contract and an algorithm to find the optimum number of the firmed orders. Computer experiments show that the algorithm finds the global optimum solution very fast.

  • The emergy (spelled with an 'm') concept was introduced to provide a new insight into ecosystem restoration efforts in Korea. The emergy is defined as the available energy of one kind previously required directly and indirectly to make a product or service. It is an effort to evaluate the true contributions of natural resources to our economy. It tries to include both contributions from natures free works and human services to develop and process natural resources. The emergy evaluation can be used to select a restoration alternative that yields more to the economy with less stress to the environment, by comparing different alternatives with indices expressed in emergy. It can also be used to assess the success of ecosystem restoration projects. Pulsing dynamics in which a slow build-up of production is followed by a frenzied consumption in relatively short time period seems to be a general feature of all systems. Any ecosystem restoration effort, therefore, should consider the whole pulsing cycle for a successful implementation.

  • Customers' evaluation of Website with satisfaction is critical in electroniccommerce. Previous research has studied in a distinct approach; especially IT oriented constructs-perceived usefulness, easy of use and marketing oriented constructs-product, shopping experience, service quality. Despite those important previous studies regarding the usage and the purchase of goods and services, how consumers are satisfied and why consumers leave Web sites without purchasing have not been extensively researched. This study explored those determinants of consumer satisfaction with Web site using expectation-disconfirmation theory (EDT). The present paper extends the range of EDT from antecedents of expectation to consequence of satisfaction. The result suggests that experience and familiarity has an impact on expectation as well as perceived performance and satisfaction. Second, higher expectation makes a negative impact on disconfirmation of expectation. Third, positive disconfirmation of expectation makes a positive impact on satisfaction. Forth. satisfaction produces loyalty and repurchasing intention. Finally, loyal customer has stronger intention to repurchase than satisfied customer.

  • Recently the POS system market expands rapidly due to the advance of global restaurant franchises into domestic market and increase of speciality restaurants. Especially, demand for low-cost models increases sharply as small and medium-sized retailers and restaurants adopt the POS system actively. According to the current trend of the POS system, in this study, we develop an embedded-type wireless POS system using Zigbee communication, which can be used efficiently in spacious stores without space and/or time limit. The POS system is designed and implemented with three objectives: first, we develop embedded-type POS system cheaper than PC-type POS system, second, we develop a competitive product with high quality and low cost and last, we focus on developing a POS system which can be used in the food service industry.

  • It is becoming very difficult for a single company to perform every process and activity required to bring its product or service to market in a competitive manner. Consequently, we are observing a dramatic paradigm shift, with companies moving from performing all activities in-house to selective outsourcing for non-core elements of their business. Through outsourcing, companies can focus on their core competencies, reduce costs, improve quality and increase flexibility. Companies today can no longer afford to ignore the potential opportunities realized through mutually beneficial outsourcing relationships with third-party suppliers. The outsourcing opportunities exist in almost every business process. Many successful companies have implemented effective outsourcing relationships with third party suppliers to gain competitive advantage in a wide range of areas. However, in terms of logistics, it is not so easy to find those companies in our country. Consequently, this paper reviews previous researches and describes several topics in third party logistics such as advantages and disadvantages, how can we select third party suppliers, and so on.

  • This study aims at examining each firm's decision-makings of complex product and system (hereafter CoPS) innovation strategy, so that it tries to reveal the nature and role of CoPS innovations strategy. And it designed a comparative case study along with qualitative methods, by having two mobile operators' digital rights management (hereafter DRM) innovation in South Korea's digital music service industry. Through literature review, this study formulated three research propositions: (i) Each firm's decision-makings of CoPS innovations strategy are analytical negotiation process among economic actors in an industry; (ii) Each firm's market power originated from its market share from the installed base through network effect and switching cost influence decision-makings of CoPS innovation strategies; (iii) Each firm's decision-makings of different CoPS innovation strategies are related to their intension of achieving better market power, consequently dominant design. Through empirical examination of two mobile operators' decision-makings of DRM innovation strategy, this study empirically verified three research propositions.

  • Six Sigma emphasizes KPI and establishes the present level as well as the goal level through statistical calculation and tries to achieve management innovation through process improvement. But in the area of new product development or service, sufficient data for statistical measurement may not be secured. On the other side, looking for contradictions through problem analysis, TRIZ is a methodology that stresses the process of solving these problems. TRIZ also has its own problems: it is hard to define its initial task, to objectify the measurement of effect, and to optimize the drawn out idea. The purpose of this report is to give a comprehensive understanding about each methodology (Sigma Six and TRIZ) through its analysis, to confirm the need of linking both methodologies, and to suggest a model for this linking process. Also, they will be verified through examples, and the synergy effect will be discussed.

  • QFD (Quality Function Deployment) was defined by the American Supplier Institute in 1987 as a system for translating consumer requirements into appropriate company requirements at every stage, from research, through product design and development, to manufacture, distribution, installation, and marketing, sales and services. Although QFD has complex and tedious procedure to complete, it has now been In use in the world for at least IS years because QFD enables us to catch a lot of fruitful information on the given system. The objective of this paper is to provide and analyze the trend on the choice of subject courses of university students using QFD. The data are collected by questionnaires. The samples for this study are randomly chosen from the universities in Seoul, Kangnung, and Samchok during 3 months (2000. 3 ~ 2000. 5) The results of this study will play an important role not only for service of students but also for opening of subject courses.

  • This paper presents a six sigma project for improving customer satisfaction of a franchise store. The project follows a disciplined process of five macro phase : define, measure, analyze, improve, and control(DMAIC). Due to the limitation of existing methodologies, numerous difficulties arise during the six sigma application to transactional processes. This paper expected to be helpful to service industry in which is very difficult to measure and implement.
