A Framework of Medical Tourism as a Niche Trade Item: A System Approach

  • Purpose - The purpose of this research is to develop two medical tourism system models which explain medical tourism phenomenon with a systemic approach. Design/methodology - This research was conducted by using a qualitative data analysis which mainly refers to previous references of medical tourism in the areas of tourism and medicine. Leiper's tourism system model was utilized as a conceptual framework. In-depth interviews with experts in the field were conducted in order to pretest the models. Findings - This research suggests a medical tourism system framework and a medical service provision framework. The first model presents medical tourism components and their relationships within a framework presented in a diagram. The second model shows the relationships among medical services required by medical tourists, the service providers, and service human resources along with movements of medical tourists. Originality/value - The first model presents a spatial composition of medical tourism components and their relationships, whereas the second model shows the linkage among medical services, the service providers, and relevant service human resources along with time sequential steps of medical tourists. These two models are complementary and may be used as useful tools to observe medical tourism phenomenon with a systemic and holistic approach. These two models may enable stake holders avoid unnecessary confusions and conflicts that result in duplication of government policies and a waste of budget and human resources.

  • This study suggests that it dynamically generates semantic Web services from Java and C++ components in order to supporting semantic Web service by using ontology. And the semantic Web should enable greater access not only to content but also to services on the Web. It needs semantic service discovery for components. So, we add ontology-based framework to Web service generation system from components. Especially, components and ontologies are transformed UML model so that it makes WSDL documents to support a generation of dynamic Web service using object modeling. The main contribution of this study is to generate web service dynamically from components and to support semantic Web environment by using ontology. In other words, this study integrates semantic Web service based on ontology and CBD method.

Hierarchical Fair Queueing: A Credit-based Approach for Hierarchical Link Sharing

  • In this paper, we propose a hierarchical packet scheduling technique to closely approximate a hierarchical extension of the generalized processor sharing model, Hierarchical Generalized Processor Sharing (H-GPS). Our approach is to undertake the tasks of service guarantee and hierarchical link sharing in an independent manner so that each task best serves its own objective. The H-GPS model is decomposed into two separate service components: the guaranteed service component to consistently provide performance guarantees over the entire system, and the excess service component to fairly distribute spare bandwidth according to the hierarchical scheduling rule. For tight and harmonized integration of the two service components into a single packet scheduling algorithm, we introduce two novel concepts of distributed virtual time and service credit, and develop a packet version of H-GPS called Hierarchical Fair Queueing (HFQ). We demonstrate the layerindependent performance of the HFQ algorithm through simulation results.

  • It is proposed in TINA, the open information telecommunication network architecture, that the definition of object group which is collection of objects provides a decrease of complex networking and a facility of object managing by service executing of application on distributed computing environment. Based on a new distributed object group model[13] we have been researched according to TINA specification, this paper proposed the object group model with the scheduler object and objects management mechanisms that can support real-time services on CORBA. To do this, we described the definition of object grouping and the requirements to suggest the object group model supporting real-time service, designed the object group structure and functional components containing in an object group using James Rumbaugh's modelling[12], and showed a class diagram of components in an object group. This paper designed IDLs of an object group manager and scheduler among the components, and finally showed the procedures of management and service interconnections between objects in the different object groups vi ETD.

  • The creep life fraction can be evaluated by the degree of grain deformation since the grain of Cr-Mo base metal deforms in the direction of stress. The grain deformation method using image processing technique is developed for life assessment of in-service high-temperature components. The new assessment model of grain deformation method is presented to apply to in-service components and is verified by interrupted creep test for ex-serviced material of 1Cr-0.5Mo steel. The proposed model, which is irrespective of stress direction, is to evaluate mean of the absolute deviation for the measured ratios which are diametrical maximum to minimum dimensions for grains.

  • Guide robots that provide services in public places have recently emerged as a non-face-to-face solution with the spread of COVID-19 and are growing. However, most guide robots provide only the same level of intelligence and the same interaction in different and changing environments. Therefore, its usefulness is limited and customers' interest is quickly lost. To solve this problem, it is necessary to develop social intelligence that can improve the robot's environment and situational awareness performance, and to continuously maintain customer interest by providing personalized and situational services. In this study, we developed guide robot services based on social HRI components that provides multi-modal context-aware. We evaluated service usefulness by measuring user satisfaction and frequency of use of the service through the survey. We analyzed the service quality attributes to identify the differentiating factors of guide robot based on social HRI components.

  • The importance of brand and brand equity has greatly increased not only in the professional perspectives but also in academic viewpoints. Especially, lots of related studies have been focused on the components of brand equity itself. However, this study concentrates on the relationships of brand equity components for understanding consumers' attitudes toward the brands of the food-service businesses. The basic research model consists of 4 brand equity components: brand awareness, perceived quality, brand image, and brand preference. Research data are gathered through survey questions responded by university students. For statistical analysis, correlation analysis, factor analysis, and covariance structure analysis are carried out. The result of this study are summed up as follows. Among the brand equity components, brand awareness had a great effect on perceived quality(path coefficient; 0.476). Brand image highly influenced brand preference(path coefficient; 0.439).

  • Recently, Service-oriented computing is the emerging computing paradigm. In this paradigm, we require the practical process model to support service oriented software development. The well-known development methods e.g., Unified Software Development Process, UML components have been proposed focused on component. So, these methods cannot support service-oriented computing concepts such as service definition, binding and composition concepts using Business Process Execution Language (BPEL). Also, a few proposed service-oriented approach, for example Service Oriented Unified process (SOUP), and Service Oriented Modeling and Architecture (SOMA) have appeared. However, these approaches do not explicitly represent detailed guideline, artifacts and approach. Therefore, in this paper we propose a practical and simple process model to support service oriented software development. Also, we explicitly represent process model and artifact using Software Process Engineering Metamodel (SPEM) which is proposed by OMG. By using our approach, it can enhance systematization and effectiveness for service-oriented software development.

A Study on the Development of the Research Support Service Model of the University Library based on the Research Life Cycle (연구 수명주기 기반 대학도서관 연구지원서비스 모형 개발 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the research support service model of a university library, which prepares for the changing research environment and supports the entire research process. In particular, components of the research support service at each stage of research are developed based on 'the research lifecycle' to support the entire research process. First, constructed elements of research support services that should be supported at each stage of the study through literature reviews and surveys of service demand. Next, a survey and in-depth interview were conducted with service providers to ensure effective service operation. This research support service model developed through the processes above are proposed as 'the research support service component model' that consists of six steps and 50 components including 20 core elements and as 'the research support service operation system model' that is composed of the organic system among government and related organizations, university libraries and organizations inside universities.

Establishment and Application of a Comprehensive Business Model Framework : Focusing on Healthcare Business Models (포괄적 비즈니스 모델 프레임워크 구축 및 적용 : 헬스케어 비즈니스 모델을 중심으로)

  • A business model (BM) can be developed based on a business model framework (BMF) consisting of key components such as value proposition, customers, and resources. To systematically generate and analyze emerging BMs such as healthcare BM, an integration of diverse BMF components is needed. The present study is to establish a comprehensive BMF and evaluate its applicability to healthcare BMs. Based on a review of eight BMF studies, ten BMF components were identified and classified into five major components (value proposition, resources, organizing model, customers, and revenue model) and five minor components (technology, service platform, delivery, competitive strategy, and growth/exit) by analyses of frequency and functional importance. Lastly, the BMs of three emerging healthcare companies (WellDoc, Inc., CFW Shops, and Aravind Eye Care System) were analyzed and compared in terms of the proposed BMF components. The comprehensive BMF components presented in the study can be of help for developing new BMs and analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of BMs.
