Hydrogen production through proton exchange membrane water electrolysis (PEMWE) is expeditiously receiving international attention for renewable energy sources as well as energy storage system applications due to its environmentally friendly uses. A series of $Ir_{0.2}Ru_{0.8}O_2$$Ir_{0.5}Ru_{0.8}O_2$ & $IrO_2$ catalysts were synthesized and electrochemically evaluated by using linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) technique. Furthermore, the PEMWE performances of full cells were evaluated by recording I-V Curves. The developed PEMWE stack was also operated in combination with a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) to demonstrate the discrete regenerative fuel cell (DRFC) performances. Produced hydrogen and oxygen from PEMWE were used as a fuel to operate PEMFC to establish a DRFC system.
An underwater speaker was developed for use as an acoustic deterrent device that transmits acoustic energy through the water omnidirectionally over a broadband frequency range to eliminate marine mammal attacks and to prevent physical damage to the inshore and coastal fishing grounds of Korea. The underwater speaker was constructed of two vibration caps machined from 6061-T6 aluminum alloy and a stack of PZ 26 piezoelectric ceramic rings (Ferroperm Piezoceramics A/S) connected mechanically in series and electrically in parallel. The performance characteristics of the underwater speaker were measured and analyzed in an experimental water tank of $5\;m{\times}5\;m{\times}6\;m$. The peak transmitting voltage response (TVR) was measured at 11.16 kHz with 163.45 dB re $1\;{\mu}Pa$/V at 1m. The underwater speaker showed a near omnidirectional beam pattern at the peak TVR resonance frequency. The usable frequency range was 4-25 kHz with a lower TVR limit of approximately 140 dB. We conclude that this underwater speaker could be satisfactorily used as an acoustic deterrent device against marine mammals, particularly the bottlenose dolphin, to protect catches and fishing grounds as well as the mammals themselves, for example, by keeping them away from fishing gear and/or vessels.

In this work, ultra high-voltage (17 - 50 kV AC), reliable 80 pF mica capacitors for partial discharge system application were investigated. Mica was used as the dielectric of the capacitors. Using the conservative design rule, over 3 individual $50\;{\mu}m$ thick mica sheets with a size of 30mm{\times}35mm were used with lead foils to form a parallel capacitor element and 20 mica sheets were interleaved with lead foils to form a series stack of parallel capacitor element to meet the requirements of the capacitors. The dimensions of the fabricated 80 pF capacitors for 17 kV AC and 50 kV AC were $90\;mm{\times}90\;mm$ and $95\;mm{\times}180\;mm$, respectively. The high-frequency characteristics of the capacitance (C) and dissipation factor (D) of the developed capacitors were measured using a capacitance meter. The developed capacitors exhibited C of 79.5 - 87.5 pF, had D of 0.001% over the frequency ranges of 150 kHz to 50 MHz, had a self-resonant frequency of 65 MHz, and showed results comparable to those measured for the capacitors prepared recently by $Adwel^{Tm}$. The developed capacitors also showed excellent characteristics for thermal shock test and temperature cycling test.

This paper shows a satellite battery cell voltage monitor system to make differential voltage measurements when one or both measurement points are beyond voltage range allowed by a conventional differential amplifier. This system is particularly useful for monitoring the individual cell voltage of series-connected cells that constitute a rechargeable satellite battery in which some cell voltages must be measured in the presence of high common mode voltage.

In this study the performance and humidity variation for 2 unit cells connected in series were experimentally measured. The relative flow direction of hydrogen and air was changed from parallel flow to counter flow. Internal humidity distribution was then measured by 5 embedded sensors on each channel. In all experimental conditions, the former unit cell showed a better performance and the gap is noted to be higher when counter flow is applied. The performance was noted to be higher at high humidification case in the parallel flow. However, in the counter flow, the difference of performance according to the humidification is negligible. Hydrogen and air are discharged from the PEMFC unsaturated with water vapor at parallel flow/low humidification condition, which explains lower performance of the PEMFC than other conditions. The humidities in hydrogen and air streams of counter flow were noted to increase rapidly even at low humidification condition and the consequential even hydration of membrane is the reason of higher performance.
In this paper, analysis of cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverter in DTC-SVM (Direct Torque Control-Space Vector Modulation) based induction motor drive for FCEV (Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle) is presented. Cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverter uses multiple series units of H-bridge power cells to achieve medium-voltage operation and low harmonic distortion. In FCEV, a fuel cell stack is used as the major source of electric power moreover the battery and/or ultra-capacitor is used to assist the fuel cell. These sources are suitable for utilizing in cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverter. The drive control strategy is based on DTC-SVM technique. In this scheme, first, stator voltage vector is calculated and then realized by SVM method. Contribution of multilevel inverter to the DTC-SVM scheme is led to achieve high performance motor drive. Simulations are carried out in Matlab-Simulink. Five-level and nine-level inverters are applied in 3hp FCEV induction motor drive for analysis the multilevel inverter. Each H-bridge is implemented using one fuel cell and battery. Good dynamic control and low ripple in the torque and the flux as well as distortion decrease in voltage and current profiles, demonstrate the great performance of multilevel inverter in DTC-SVM induction motor drive for vehicle application.
Previous work measurement methods need much time and effort of time study analysts because they have to measure required time through direct observations. In this study, we propose a method which efficiently measures standard times without involvement of human analysts using digital image processing techniques. This method consists of two main steps: motion representation step and cycle segmentation step. In motion representation step, we first detect the motion of any object distinct from its background by differencing two consecutive images separated by a constant time interval. The images thus obtained then pass through an edge detector filter. Finally, the mean values of coordinates of significant pixels of the edge image are obtained. Through these processes, the motions of the observed worker are represented by two time series data of worker location in horizontal and vertical axes. In the second step, called the cycle segmentation step, we extract the frames which have maximum or minimum coordinates in one cycle and store them in a stack, and calculate each cycle time using these frames. In this step we also consider methods on how to detect work delays due to unexpected events such as operator's escapement from the work area, or interruptions. To condude, the experimental results show that the proposed method is very cost-effective and useful for measuring time standards for various work environment.
This paper reports the deposition of a metal line using a multilayer stack and laser-induced forward transfer (LIFT) using a low cost continuous wave blue laser with a wavelength of 450 nm. The donor structure was composed of a light-to-heat (LTH) layer, a release layer, and a transfer layer in series. Amorphous silicon as the LTH layer absorbs photon energy and converts it to heat. A release layer was melted so that a silver transfer layer would be transferred to the receiver substrate. The transferred silver layer showed reasonable physical and electrical characteristics. A low cost fine linewidth metal layer could be achieved using this modified LIFT technique and blue laser.

In this paper, low-loss and high-power RF SP6T switch chips are designed, fabricated and measured for GSM/EGSM/DCS/PCS applications using WIN Semiconductors 0.5 ${\mu}m$ pHEMT process. We utilized a combined configuration of series and series-shunt structures for optimized switch performance, and a common transistor structure on a receiver path for reducing chip area. The gate width and the number of stacked transistors are determined using ON/OFF input power level of the transceiver system. To improve the switch performance, feed-forward capacitors, shunt capacitors and parasitic FET inductance elimination due to resonance are actively used. The fabricated chip size is $1.2{\times}1.5\;mm^2$. S-parameter measurement shows an insertion loss of 0.5~1.2 dB and isolation of 28~36 dB. The fabricated SP6T switch chips can handle 4 W input power and suppress second and third harmonics by more than 75 dBc.
Dual backlight unit incorporating a single light source integrated with a beam splitting reflector was demonstrated, providing a surface light beam for both the keypad and the display section simultaneously. The reflector was realized by aligning a groove substrate with a matching cover, and a light guiding module comprising a stack of light guide panels and prism/diffuser sheets was attached to both sides of the reflector. A light emanating from the light source-placed in the middle of the substrate-undergoes a series of reflections through the reflector to reach the input of the light guiding module. Then it is transformed into a surface light beam, which is used to irradiate the keypad and display sections simultaneously. As for the accomplished dual surface light sources, the measured average luminance and the spatial luminance uniformity were respectively about $420\;cd/m^2$ and 69% for the keypad section, and $640\;cd/m^2$ and 79% for the display section.
