Epoxy Planarization Films for the Stainless Steel Substrates for Flexible Displays (플렉시블 디스플레이용 Stainless Steel 기판의 에폭시 평탄막 연구)

  • This paper reports the first results of a series of planarization film study for the stainless steel (SS) substrates for flexible displays. Diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) and octa(dimethylsiloxypropylglycidylether) silsesquioxane (OG) were chosen for the organic and the hybrid epoxies respectively and diaminodiphenylmethane (DDM) was used as a curing agent at 1:2 stoichiometric ratio. These materials were spin-coated on SS substrates and thermal-cured. TGA study indicated that both the pristine and the cured OG were more thermally stable than DGEBA. AFM study showed that the smooth surfaces of $1{\sim}2\;nm$ roughness can be prepared for both DGEBA and OG when the films were thick ($>\;1\;{\mu}$). The electrical properties such as dielectric constant, capacitance and the leakage current with respect to the applied voltage were all stable even after the stress of $100\;V/100^{\circ}C$ was applied for $0{\sim}10000$ seconds indicating that the insulating properties of DGEBA and OG films were very reliable.

  • The HMM-Net is a neural network architecture that implements the computation of output probabilities of a hidden Markov model (HMM). The architecture is developed for the purpose of combining the discriminant power of neural networks with the time-domain modeling capability of HMMs. Criteria of maximum likehood(ML) and minimization of mean squared error(MMSE) are used for learning HMM-Net classifiers. The criterion MMSE is better than ML when initial learning condition is well established. However Ml is more useful one when the condition is incomplete[3]. Therefore we propose an efficient learning method of HMM-Net classifiers using a hybrid criterion(ML/MMSE). In the method, we begin a learning with ML in order to get a stable start-point. After then, we continue the learning with MMSE to search an optimal or near-optimal solution. Experimental results for the isolated numeric digits from /0/ to /9/, a training and testing time-series pattern set, show that the performance of the proposed method is better than the others in the respects of learning and recognition rates.

Evaluation on in-situ Heat Exchange Efficiency of Energy Slab According to Pipe Materials and Configurations (파이프 재질 및 형태에 따른 에너지 슬래브의 현장 열교환 성능 평가)

  • The energy slab is a ground coupled heat exchanger equipped in building slab structures, which represents a layout similar to the horizontal ground heat exchanger (GHEX). The energy slab is installed as one component of the floor slab layers in order to utilize the underground structure as a hybrid energy structure. However, as the energy slab is horizontally arranged, its thermal performance is inevitably less than the conventional vertical GHEXs. Therefore, stainless steel (STS) pipes are alternatively considered as a heat exchanger instead of high density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes in order to enhance thermal performance of GHEXs. Moreover, not only a floor slab but also a wall slab can be utilized as a heat-exchangeable energy slab in order to maximize the use of underground space effectively. In this paper, four field-scale energy slabs were constructed in a test bed, which consist of the STS and HDPE pipe, and a series of thermal response tests (TRTs) was conducted to evaluate relative heat exchange efficiency per unit pipe length according to the pipe material and the configuration of energy slabs. The energy slab equipped with the STS pipe shows higher thermal performance than the energy slab with the HDPE pipe. In addition, thermal performance of the wall-type energy slab is almost equivalent to the floor-type energy slab.

  • A UV camera is being used in various application regions such as industry, medical science, military, and environment monitoring. A ROIC(ReadOut IC) is developed and can read the responses from UV photodiode sensors which are made with III-V nitride semiconductors of GaN series haying high resolution and high efficiency. To design FPA(Focal Plane Array) UV $8{\times}8$ ROIC, the photodiode type sensor devices are modeled as the capacitor type ones. The ROIC reads out signals from the detector at)d outputs sequentially pixel signals after amplifying and noise filtering of them. The ROIC is fabricated using the $0.5{\mu}m$ 2Poly 3Metal N-well CMOS process. And then, it and photodiode array are hybrid bonded by gold stud bumping process using ACP(Anisotropic Conductive Paste). After the packaging, UV images appearing on PC verified the operations of the ROIC.

  • Since no single routing-switching combination performs the best under various different types of applications, a flexible network is required to support a range of polices. This paper introduces an implementation of a look-up table routing engine offering flexible routing and switching polices without performance degradation unlike those based on microprocessors. By deciding contents of look-up tables, the engine can implement wormhole routing, virtual cut-through routing, and packet switching, as well as hybrid switching, under a variety of routing algorithms. Since the routing engine has a piplelined look-up table architecture, the routing delay is as small as one flit, and thus it can overlap multiple routing actions without performance degradation in comparison with hardwired routers dedicated to a specific policy. Because four pipeline stages do not induce a hazard, expensive forwarding logic is not required. The routing engine can accommodate four physical links with a time shared cut-through bus or single link with a cross-bar switch. It is implemented using Xilinx 4000 series FPGA.

  • This study focuses on mechanical property enhancement and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) reduction characteristic of environmentally-friendly waterborne coatings. We synthesized a series of organic-inorganic hybrid waterborne polyurethanes by using poly(tetramethylene glycol) 2000, polycarbonate diol 2000, isophorone diisocyanate, dimethylolpropionic acid and titanium dioxide. The study on the effects of the R ratio([NCO]/[OH]) and inorganic contents on environmentally-friendly waterborne coatings showed that the R ratio with more than 1.5 is appropriate due to arrangement of hardsegments. The applied $TiO_2$ on films reduced volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

  • The linear motor has not only no backlash and less friction, resulting in very high accuracy, but also mechanical simplicity, higher reliability, and longer lifetime. In this study, a large-capacity hybrid mass damper using linear motor principle has been developed to suppress vibration of large structures. It is designated linear motor damper in this paper. The LMD has been designed to be able to move the auxiliary damper mass of 155kg up to $\pm$250mm stroke. A series of performance tests for LMD control system with $H_{winfty}$ robust controller have been carried out on the full-scale steel frame structure. Through the performance tests, it is confirmed that vibration response levels are reduced down 10dB for the first and second modes of the test structure.

  • In recent years, the performance and functions of portable devices has increased. so it requires more power efficiency and energy density while using the battery for a long time. therefore Battery pack which are made up from several battery cells in series in order to achieve higher operating voltage is being used. when using a Li-ion battery, we need a protection circuit to protect from overcharge, over discharge, high temperature and over current. Also, when using battery pack, we need to Cell voltage balancing circuit that each cell in tune with the balancing. In this paper, the proposed IC is applicable by mobile devices as well as E-bike, hybrid vehicles, electric vehicles, and is expected to contribute to the development of domestic PMIC.

Identification of a Domain in Yeast Chitin Synthase 3 Required for Biogenesis of Chitin Ring, But Not Cellular Chitin Synthesis

  • It hab been proposed that CHS3-mediated chitin synthesis during the vegitative cell cycle is regulated by CHS4. To investigate direct protein-protein interaction between their coding products, we used yeast two hybrid system and found that a domain of Chs3p was responsible for interaction with Chs4p. This domain, termed MIRC3-4 (maximum interacting region of chs3p with chs4p), spans from 647 to 700 residues. It is well conserved among CHS3 homologs of various fungi such as Candida albicans, Emericella nidulans, Neurospora crassa, Magnaporthe grisea, Ustilago maydis, Glomus versiforme, Exophiala dermatitidis, Rhizopus microsporus. A series of mutaion in the MIRC3-4 resulted in no appearance of chitin ring at the early G 1 phase but did not affect chitin synthesis in the cell wall after cytokinesis. Absence of chitin ring could be caused either by delocalization of Chs3p to the septum or by improper interaction with Chs4p. To discriminate those two, not mutually exclusive, alternatives, mutants cells were immunostained with Chs3p-specific antibody. Some exhibited localization of chs3p to the septum, while others failed. These results indicate that simultaneous localization and activation Chs3p by Chs4p is required for chitin ring synthesis.

Optimal Location of FACTS Devices Using Adaptive Particle Swarm Optimization Hybrid with Simulated Annealing

  • This paper describes a new stochastic heuristic algorithm in engineering problem optimization especially in power system applications. An improved particle swarm optimization (PSO) called adaptive particle swarm optimization (APSO), mixed with simulated annealing (SA), is introduced and referred to as APSO-SA. This algorithm uses a novel PSO algorithm (APSO) to increase the convergence rate and incorporate the ability of SA to avoid being trapped in a local optimum. The APSO-SA algorithm efficiency is verified using some benchmark functions. This paper presents the application of APSO-SA to find the optimal location, type and size of flexible AC transmission system devices. Two types of FACTS devices, the thyristor controlled series capacitor (TCSC) and the static VAR compensator (SVC), are considered. The main objectives of the presented method are increasing the voltage stability index and over load factor, decreasing the cost of investment and total real power losses in the power system. In this regard, two cases are considered: single-type devices (same type of FACTS devices) and multi-type devices (combination of TCSC, SVC). Using the proposed method, the locations, type and sizes of FACTS devices are obtained to reach the optimal objective function. The APSO-SA is used to solve the above non.linear programming optimization problem for better accuracy and fast convergence and its results are compared with results of conventional PSO. The presented method expands the search space, improves performance and accelerates to the speed convergence, in comparison with the conventional PSO algorithm. The optimization results are compared with the standard PSO method. This comparison confirms the efficiency and validity of the proposed method. The proposed approach is examined and tested on IEEE 14 bus systems by MATLAB software. Numerical results demonstrate that the APSO-SA is fast and has a much lower computational cost.
