Analysis tool for the diffusion model using GPU: SNUDM-G (GPU를 이용한 확산모형 분석 도구: SNUDM-G)

  • In this paper, we introduce the SNUDM-G, a diffusion model analysis tool with improved computational speed. Although the diffusion model has been applied to explain various cognitive tasks, its use was limited due to computational difficulties. In particular, SNUDM(Koh et al., 2020), one of the diffusion model analysis tools, has a disadvantage in terms of processing speed because it sequentially generates 20,000 data when approximating the diffusion process. To overcome this limitation, we propose to use graphic processing units(GPU) in the process of approximating the diffusion process with a random walk process. Since 20,000 data can be generated in parallel using the graphic processing units, the estimation speed can be increased compared to generating data through sequential processing. As a result of analyzing the data of Experiment 1 by Ratcliff et al. (2004) and recovering the parameters with SNUDM-G using GPU and SNUDM using CPU, SNUDM-G estimated slightly higher values for certain parameters than SNUDM. However, in term of computational speed, SNUDM-G estimated the parameters much faster than SNUDM. This result shows that a more efficient diffusion model analysis for various cognitive tasks is possible using this tool and further suggests that the processing speed of various cognitive models can be improved by using graphic processing units in the future.

Accelerated Convolution Image Processing by Using Look-Up Table and Overlap Region Buffering Method (Loop-Up Table과 필터 중첩영역 버퍼링 기법을 이용한 컨벌루션 영상처리 고속화)

  • Convolution filtering methods have been widely applied to various digital signal processing fields for image blurring, sharpening, edge detection, and noise reduction, etc. According to their application purpose, the filter mask size or shape and the mask value are selected in advance, and the designed filter is applied to input image for the convolution processing. In this paper, we proposed an image processing acceleration method for the convolution processing by using two-dimensional Look-up table (LUT) and overlap-region buffering technique. First, based on the fixed convolution mask value, the multiplication operation between 8 or 10 bit pixel values of the input image and the filter mask values is performed a priori, and the results memorized in LUT are referred during the convolution process. Second, based on symmetric structural characteristics of the convolution filters, inherent duplicated operation region is analysed, and the saved operation results in one step before in the predefined memory buffer is recalled and reused in current operation step. Through this buffering, unnecessary repeated filter operation on the same regions is minimized in sequential manner. As the proposed algorithms minimize the computational amount needed for the convolution operation, they work well under the operation environments utilizing embedded systems with limited computational resources or the environments of utilizing general personnel computers. A series of experiments under various situations verifies the effectiveness and usefulness of the proposed methods.

Impact of social relationships on self-related information processing and emotional experiences (사회적 관계가 개인의 정보처리와 정서경험에 미치는 효과)

  • Do social situations have an impact on an individual's information processing and emotional experiences? Two studies were conducted to investigate relationships between self-reference effects, emotional experiences and social information processing. Study 1 examined whether biases favoring self-related stimuli could occur automatically. Participants had to judge whether sequential geometric shape-label pairs matched or mismatched. The results showed that self-related stimuli are more rapidly processed than friends/others-related stimuli. In Study 2, the participants had to recall items which were presented with different instructions (either chosen by a friend or by the computer). Here we explored whether the self-reference effect is reduced in a social learning condition. When comparing the social learning condition (seated in pairs) with the nonsocial learning condition (seated alone), the participants recalled more self-related words in the nonsocial learning condition than in the social learning condition. Importantly, the automatic self-reference effect disappeared in the social learning condition. More friends-related words were recalled in the social condition than self-related words. In addition, while tasting chocolates, the participants judged them to be more likeable in the social condition than in the nonsocial condition. These results implicated that social processing can be useful for reducing the automatic self-reference effects and shared experiences are perceived more intensely than unshared experiences.

Contents of Homogentisic acid and 3,4-Dihydroxybenzaldehyde in the Pinellia ternata by Various Processing Method and Its Safety Estimate (포제방법에 따른 반하의 Homogentisic acid와 3,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde 함량 및 안정성 평가)

  • This study was carried out for establishment of toxicological monitoring system in oriental medicinal plants. Hence on our research, we used Banha(Pinellia ternata) and Kangbanha, Bubbanha, Jaebanha, Geokbanha by distinguished processing methods. These are frequently used in Bangyakhabpeon, which is one of the most well-known clinical book in oriental medicine. As we reviewed the reported documents, we judge homogentisic acid(HA) and 3,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde(3,4-DBA) as poisonous substance and to verify its existence, we established analysis condition of HPLC by gaining sequential fraction extracts and studied the degree of its virulence to provide basic information on the guidelines of using this medicine. Optimum condition of HPLC was H₂O : MeOH : CH₃COOH (57:35:8) in HA and 3,4-DBA analysis. HA content of raw Banha was 11.03mg/100g and HA contents of its processed product were decreased. Exceptionally, Jaebanha was increased in 175.97% than raw Banha. 3,4-DBA content of raw Banha was 2.93mg/100g and 3,4-DBA contents of its processed product were decreased. These results will be applies in intake guideline establishment, quality control and stability evaluation of oriental medicinal plants.

Gene Expression Data Analysis Using Parallel Processor based Pattern Classification Method (병렬 프로세서 기반의 패턴 분류 기법을 이용한 유전자 발현 데이터 분석)

  • Diagnosis of diseases using gene expression data obtained from microarray chip is an active research area recently. It has been done by general machine learning algorithms, because it is difficult to analyze directly. However, recent research results about the analysis based on the interaction between genes is essential for the gene expression analysis, which means the analysis using the traditional machine learning algorithms has limitations. In this paper, we classify the gene expression data using the hyper-network model that considers the higher-order correlations between the features, and then compares the classification accuracies. And also, we present the new hypo-network model that improve the disadvantage of existing model, and compare the processing performances of the existing hypo-network model based on general sequential processor and the improved hypo-network model implemented on parallel processors. In the experimental results, we show that the performance of our model shows improved and competitive classification performance than traditional machine learning methods, as well as, the existing hypo-network model. We show that the performance is maximized when the hypernetwork model is implemented on our parallel processors.

Comparison and Performance Validation of On-line Aerial Triangulation Algorithms for Real-time Image Georeferencing (실시간 영상 지오레퍼런싱을 위한 온라인 항공삼각측량 알고리즘의 비교 및 성능 검증)

  • Real-time image georeferencing is required to generate spatial information rapidly from the image sequences acquired by multi-sensor systems. To complement the performance of position/attitude sensors and process in real-time, we should employ on-line aerial triangulation based on a sequential estimation algorithm. In this study, we thus attempt to derive an efficient on-line aerial triangulation algorithm for real-time georeferencing of image sequences. We implemented on-line aerial triangulation using the existing Given transformation update algorithm, and a new inverse normal matrix update algorithm based on observation classification, respectively. To compare the performance of two algorithms in terms of the accuracy and processing time, we applied these algorithms to simulated airborne multi-sensory data. The experimental results indicate that the inverse normal matrix update algorithm shows 40 % higher accuracy in the estimated ground point coordinates and eight times faster processing speed comparing to the Given transformation update algorithm. Therefore, the inverse normal matrix update algorithm is more appropriate for the real-time image georeferencing.

Performance Evaluation and Optimization of NoSQL Databases with High-Performance Flash SSDs (고성능 플래시 SSD 환경에서 NoSQL 데이터베이스의 성능 평가 및 최적화)

  • Recently, demands for high-performance flash-based storage devices (i.e., flash SSD) have rapidly grown in social network services, cloud computing, super-computing, and enterprise storage systems. The industry and academic communities made the NVMe specification for high-performance storage devices, and NVMe-based flash SSDs can be now obtained in the market. In this article, we evaluate performance of NoSQL databases that social network services and cloud computing services heavily adopt by using NVMe-based flash SSDs. To this end, we use NVMe SSD that Samsung Electronics recently developed, and the SSD used in this study has performance up to 3.5GB/s for sequential read/write operations. We use WiredTiger for NoSQL databases, and it is a default storage engine for MongoDB. Our experimental results show that log processing in NoSQL databases is a major overhead when high-performance NVMe-based flash SSDs are used. Furthermore, we optimize components of log processing and optimized WiredTiger show up to 15 times better performance than original WiredTiger.

  • A sequential system composed of hydroxylapatite chromatography and gel permeation chromatography was developed to purify the IgM type monoclonal antibody against the colon cancer cell SC-1 from the ascitic fluid of mice injected with the murine hybridoma CH07E02. In the hydroxylapatite chromatographic step the band dilution could be reduced by controlling the gradient and flow rate of the eluent, the sodium phospate buffer, the optimum values for these variables being 5.82$\times$10$^{-3}$M/cm and 0.2$m\ell/\textrm{cm}^2$/min, respectively. A degree of purity better than 99.99% as judged from silverstaining of the SDS-PAGE bands, was obtained by adding the gel permeation chromatographic step in tandem.

  • The concept of a hyperpresmtation, as an extension of a hypermedia, is the presentation in which time-varying multimedia presentations are dynamically linked together and a hyperlink's context can be changed over time at any time during a continuous presentation. Problems caused by integrating the hyperpresentation into an existing multimedia system which handles a sequential presentation only are, how to describe the hyperprcsentation, how to set up a hyperlink on a continuous media, and how to check the consistency of the synchronized presentations. In this paper. a new synchronization description method for the hyperpresentation and a method for setting a hyper link on a continuous media during" presentation are proposed after havin!; SHrvey of existing methods, The proposed method deals with only the DC value in a stream ut a DCT based compressed data for checking a condition of te link. Finally, the method for checking the consistency of mixed presentations before actual play of the hnlerpresentation is described. Proposed methods are implemented on MuX(Multimedia IO Server) where a sample scenario is tested.

  • One of the reasons that debugging distributed programs is much more difficult than sequential programs is the communication among processes. Even though there are many debuggers constructed on distributed system environment, no available debugger provides an efficient way to debug communication events.. In this paper, we show the way to debug RPC communication, which is regarded as one of the most popular communication protocol in distributed system development. This paper presents the implementation of the RPC event trace function based on the RPC event model, which is proposed to accommodate communication events into debugging objects. Analyzing conventional RPC protocols, we formalized library function calls as corresponding actions to sending and receiving of messages. B recognizing the locations of library calls the debugger can detect all occurrences of communication events, This RPC event trace function is implemented on the on-line distributed debugger UniVIEW system.
