Synthesis of Quinoxaline Derivatives at Room Temperature Using Magnetic Material Separated from Coal Fly Ash

  • An efficient synthesis of quinoxalines derivatives is described using magnetic material separated from coal fly ash. Coal fly ash is a waste material generated in huge amount by burning of coal for the generation of electricity in thermal power station. It contains $SiO_2$, $Al_2O_3$ and magnetic material in significant amounts, from which magnetic material was separated by using magnetic separation method. These separated magnetic material further characterized by XPS, XRD, EDS, FTIR, SEM, TEM and BET techniques. The merits of present method are mild reaction conditions, and also excellent yields and short reaction times.

매립지내 환경에너지단지의 무방류 시스템 구축방안 (Construction Method of Zero Discharge System for Environmental Energy Complex in Landfill)

  • A research was performed for zero discharge system of waste water which is produced from energy recovery process of waste and biomass. Leachate and all kinds of waste water should be separated and integrated into three categories in addition to converting existing leachate treatment facility into waste water treatment facility as well as introducing a management system of reverse osmosis membrane facility and bioreactor landfill. Following these conditions to better water treatment process, it was likely to produce over 3,000 tons of low-grade recycling water and 2,000 tons of high-grade recycling water per day when zero discharge system of waste water is applied starting from 2016. Economical efficiency was also surveyed in total treatment fee. Present system costs 18,129 million won per year, and suggested zero discharge system would cost 15,789 million won per year.

  • This research suggested the hygienic spatial composition of sell-service restaurants applying HACCP(Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point System). The circulation of the food, dishes, waste, workers and customers were each fractionated and arranged according to the hygienic sequence of cooking food in kitchen and process for eating food within the customer space. The spaces were separated by the degree of cleanness(clean area, semi-clean area, contaminated area). After that, hygiene facilities to remove contamination and pass facilities intended to control moving were added at the possible points of cross-contamination in oder to prevent the cross-contamination. For hygienic spatial composition of self-service restaurant, the following should be acknowledged: In the kitchen, spaces in which the food is handled after being heated should be located in the clean area. As of the customer space, spaces where dishes are prepared, food and water is received, and the table hall should be located in the clean area. Food circulation should flow from the contaminated area to the clean area. Food, dishes, waste should be moved through pass facilities so that workers do not have to come and go between other areas of cleanness. Also lockers for private clothes and lockers for uniforms should be separated. Hygiene facilities should be easily accessible so that workers can use them whenever they enter their working area. The contaminated area where dirty dishes are dealed with should be separated from the clean area. Waste should be thrown out without crossing cooking areas. As of customer circulation, the hygiene facility for hand washing should be located near the space where dishes for self-service are placed. The customer circulation should lead customers to leave restaurants after giving back the dirty dishes in the contaminated area.

음식물류 폐기물 처리를 위한 준 회분식 액순환 건식 혐기성 소화법에 대한 기초연구 (Preliminary Study of Semi-continuous Liquid Recirculating Anaerobic Digestion for Source Separated Food Waste)

  • 본 연구에서는 학교 식당에서 배출되는 음식물류 폐기물을 준 회분식 액순환 건식 혐기성 소화를 이용해서 메탄가스를 생산하였다. 두 시스템이 운전되었는데, 각 시스템은 생물반응조와 액 저장조로 구성되었다. 각 생물반응조 바닥은 스크린이 설치되어 있어 2.5L의 분리된 액체는 액 저장조로 30분 동안 이송되고 이송이 끝나자마자 이송된 액은 반응조 상부로 투입된다. 이 같은 순환은 고농도의 VFAs를 가지는 액체를 반응조 상부로 공급하는 역할을 한다. 실험 초기에는 음식물류 폐기물/식종 미생물의 부피 비는 2:8이고 이는 9g VS/L의 유기물 부하로 나타낼 수 있다. 음식물류 폐기물 투입은 2주에 한번이었고, 평균 수분, 휘발물질, 회성분은 각각 65.91%, 32.73%과 1.36%로 파악되었다. 두 개의 고형물 부하가 연구되었는데, 각각 3.51g VS/d (System A)와 3.86g VS/d(System B)이다. 음식물류 폐기물 당 메탄 발생량은 각각 $6.30m^3CH_4/kgVS{\cdot}d$(System A)와 $4.94m^3CH_4/kgVS{\cdot}d$(System B)이다.

폐기물 관리시설 설계를 위한 재활용성 생활폐기물의 겉보기밀도 평가에 관한 연구 (Estimation of the Bulk Density for Recyclable Residential Wastes)

  • 본 연구에서는 생활폐기물 내 재활용성 물질을 대상으로 선별품목별 겉보기밀도와 조성비로 산정한 혼합폐기물의 겉보기밀도치를 평가함으로써 재활용성 폐기물의 관리 및 시설설계에 활용할 수 있도록 겉보기밀도에 대한 기초자료를 제공하고자 하였다. 4회에 걸쳐 선별장에 반입된 1,800 kg의 재활용성 폐기물을 대상으로 선별품목별 중량 및 부피조성비, 선별 전 후의 겉보기밀도를 조사하였다. 선별품목별 겉보기밀도는 병류가 $379.0kg/m^3$로 가장 높았으며, 고철류, 잡쓰레기, 기타, 캔류, 플라스틱류의 순으로 나타났다. 또한 선별품목별 조성비는 중량기준으로는 병류와 플라스틱류가 40.6%, 32.6%를 차지하였으나 부피기준 적용 시 플라스틱류는 60.2%로 대폭 증가하는 반면에 병류는 8.9%로 크게 낮아져 조성비 적용방식에 따라 품목별 조성비의 변동폭이 다르게 나타났다. 또한 재활용성 혼합폐기물의 겉보기밀도는 조성비를 부피기준으로 적용하는 방식이 중량기준 적용방식보다 실측치에 유사하게 나타났다. 이러한 조사결과를 바탕으로 폐기물 처리설비 설계에 사용되는 재활용성 혼합폐기물의 겉보기밀도 산정 시에는 부피기준 조성비를 적용하는 방식이 적절한 것으로 평가되었다.

폐슬러지를 이용한 흡착·부상 공정에 의한 중금속 제거 (Removal of heavy metals using waste sludge by biosorptive flotation)

  • Waste sludge may be used to recovery wastewater contaminated with heavy metals. The waste sludge is an inexpensive readily available source of biomass for biosorption with metal-bearing wastewater. The biosorption of heavy metals such as Pb(II), Cu(II), Cr(II), and Cd(II) onto waste sludge was investigated in batch ex­periments and waste sludge loaded heavy metals was separated by dissolved air flotation. The biosorption equi­bria of heavy metals could be described by Langmuir and Freundich isotherms. The adsorption capacity for waste sludge was in the sequence of Pb(II)>Cr(II)>Cu(II)>Cd(II). The system attained equilibrium about 20 min. The Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption model effectively described the biosorption equilibrium of Cu(II) and Cr(II) ions on waste sludge. Maximum adsorption capacity of Cu(II) and Cr(II) were 196.08 and 158.73 mg/g, respectively. Solid-liquid separation efficiencies were kept above $95\%$ on waste sludge loaded heavy metals, and were decreased with pH increasing.

VOLUME REDUCTION OF DISMANTLED CONCRETE WASTES GENERATED FROM KRR-2 AND UCP

  • As part of a fundamental study on the volume reduction of contaminated concrete wastes, the separation characteristics of the aggregates and the distribution of the radioactivity in the aggregates were investigated. Radioisotope $^{60}Co$ was artificially used as a model contaminant for non-radioactive crushed concrete waste. Volume reduction for radioactively contaminated dismantled concrete wastes was carried out using activated heavy weight concrete taken from the Korea Research Reactor 2 (KRR-2) and light weight concrete from the Uranium Conversion Plant (UCP). The results showed that most of the $^{60}Co$ nuclide was easily separated from the contaminated dismantled concrete waste and was concentrated mainly in the porous fine cement paste. The heating temperature was found to be one of the effective parameters in the removal of the radionuclide from concrete waste. The volume reduction rate achieved was above 80% for the KRR-2 concrete wastes and above 75% for the UCP concrete wastes by thermal and mechanical treatment.

  • In woody waste separated from municipal solid waste, medium density fiberboard was major contributors with particleboard, paper, plywood and log, with different composition based on collected period. In chemical compositional analysis of woody waste, it was similar to softwood based on carbohydrate composition analysis. Based on the carbohydrate composition, saccharified solution from MWW could be good resource for biorefinery.

Analysis on Calcination of Cementitious Powder of Waste Concrete for Raw Cement

  • The purpose of this study is to examine whether cementitious powder separated from waste concrete can be used as an alternative raw material to limestone and reduce the usage of natural resource (limestone) and $CO_2$ emission based on recycling cementitious powder from waste concrete. Experiments actually analyzed the chemical composition of cementitious powder and performed hyperthermia analysis, measurement of free CaO and XRD analysis to measure the degree of recovery of hydration in the model of cementitious powder manufactured based on chemical composition. These were performed in each cementitious powder model at different calcination temperatures such as $900^{\circ}C$, $1200^{\circ}C$, $1300^{\circ}C$, $1400^{\circ}C$ and $1450^{\circ}C$. Through the experiments, it was found that the recovery of hydration was at a level which can be used as the alternative raw material for limestone, but the replacement ratio was directly affected by the degree of mixing of fine aggregate in less than $150{\mu}m$, which cannot be separated from cementitious powder. It was shown that there was no difference in the production of compounds involved in hydration at calcination temperatures of $1200^{\circ}C$ or higher. Therefore, to pursue the replacement of limestone and reduction of greenhouse gas by recycling cementitious powder, the development of technology to efficiently separate aggregate fine powder is required.

Content and Distribution of Transition Metals and Rare Earth Elements in Magnetically and Mechanically Separated Brown Coal Ash

  • Coal ash is known to contain a noticeable amount of valuable elements, including transition metals and lanthanides. Therefore it is quite actual problem to extract them for metallurgy and other applications. This paper presents the results of high gradient magnetic and mechanical separation, microscopy, element analyses and optical spectroscopy of brown coal ash taken from the combustion camera and chimney-stalk of Angren thermal power station. The separated magnetic fraction was 3.4 wt.%, where the content of Fe in ferrospheres increased to 58 wt.%. The highest contents of Fe and rare earth elements were found in the fine fractions of $50-100{\mu}m$. Optical absorption spectroscopy of water solutions of the magnetic fractions revealed $Fe^{2+}$ and $Fe^{3+}$ ions in the ratio of ~1:1. The separated coal ash could be used for cleaning of technological liquid waste by means of the high gradient magnetic field.
