  • A simple measuring device is proposed, and its performance is examined in an adsorption process separating a gas mixture. The sensor is made of a quartz crystal resonator and solid adsorbent to detect the target component. Micro-particle carbon cryogel(MCC) is utilized as the adsorbent, and the gas mixture of air and i-butane are separated in a column containing bamboo activated carbon. Two devices are placed at the inlet and outlet of the column. The measurements are compared with those of GC outcome to prove the measurements are effective. The experimentally proved system is simple and capable to be implemented in an in-line system with on-line measurement.

  • At the LPG vehicle air intake system, most of dust particles in the air cleaner are removed. However very small particles are not removed and accumulated. The accumulation of carbon in air intake system is going to affect the idle speed control and sensor signal. It also causes engine chattering and transmission troubles of automatic transmission. This is study about cleaning up intake system using cleaning chemical. We can clean up the intake system by spraying cleaning liquid onto intake device when the engine is idling after intake hose is removed from warmed up vehicle. We can obtain the following experimental results by cleaning up ISC, surge tank, intake manifold, intake valves and combustion chamber. According to this results, the stroll valve works correctly and power rate of engine is up to the standard, it is smoothy to control the idling speed when a vehicle pulls up. After cleaning up CO grow down about 0.15%, HC does about 20~100 ppm.

  • This study presents the remote control of a board robot using a Sensing glove based on Bluetooth communication. The board robot is a kind of riding robot controlled by an user. The user wears the proposed remote glove controller, and changes a direction of the robot by different kinds of finger actions. Bluetooth is used for wireless communication between the board robot and its user. CdS cell Sensors and a LED in the glove are used for recognition of a number of finger actions, which are measured as analog signals. The finger actions have five commands ('1'right '2'neutrality '3'left '4'operation '5'stop), which are transmitted from the user to the board robot through Bluetooth communication. Experimental results show that proposed a Sensing glove can effectively control the board robot.

  • Objects Internet-based healthcare services provide healthcare and healthcare services, including measurement of user's vital signs, diagnosis and prevention of diseases, through a variety of object internet devices. However, there is a problem that new security vulnerability can occur when inter-working with the security weakness of each element technology because the internet service based on the object Internet provides a service by integrating various element technologies. In this paper, we propose a user privacy protection model that can securely process user's healthcare information from a third party when delivering healthcare information of users using wearable equipment based on IoT in a mobile environment to a server. The proposed model provides attribute values for each healthcare sensor information so that the user can safely handle, store, and store the healthcare information, thereby managing the privacy of the user in a hierarchical manner. As a result of the performance evaluation, the throughput of IoT device is improved by 10.5% on average and the server overhead is 9.9% lower than that of the existing model.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to develop a measurement system for determining photosynthetic photon flux (PPF) distribution and illumination efficiency of LED lamps. Methods: The system was composed of a linear moving sensor part (LMSP), a rotating part to turn the LMSP, a body assembly to support the rotating part, and a motor controller. The average PPF of the LED lamp with natural cooling and water cooling was evaluated using the measurement system. Results: The PPF of LED lamp with water cooling was 3.1-31.7% greater than that with natural cooling. Based on the measured value, PPF on the horizontal surface was predicted. Illumination efficiency of the LED lamp was slightly increased with water cooling by 3.4%, compared with natural cooling. A simulation program using MATLAB was developed to analyze the effects of the vertical distance from lighting sources to growing bed, lamp spacing, and number of LED lamps, on the PPF distribution on the horizontal surface. The uniformity of the PPF distribution of the LED lamps was fairly improved with 15 cm spacing, as compared to the 5 cm spacing. By simulation, PPF of $217.0{\pm}27.9{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$ was obtained at the vertical distance of 40 cm from six LED lamps with 12 cm spacing. This simulated PPF was compared to the measured one of $225.9{\pm}25.6{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$. After continuous lighting of 346 days, the relative PPF of LED lamps with water cooling and natural cooling was decreased by 6.6% and 22.8%, respectively. Conclusions: From these results, it was concluded that the measurement system developed in this study was useful for determining PPF and illumination efficiency of artificial lighting sources including LED lamp.

  • A detector for monitoring carbon monoxide (CO) in ambient air by nondispersive infrared (NDIR) spectroscopy has been developed and investigated its sensitivity and stability. The essential parts of the absorption cell are three spherical concave mirrors so as to improve the sensitivity by increasing the light path length in the cell. The radius and center of curvature of mirrors and position in the cell was calculated by computer simulation in order that the light path length may be 16m into the 50cm cell. The number of traversals and optical path properties were confirmed by laser beam alignment in transparent absorption cell. The photoconductive type lead selenide (PbSe) was used as CO sensing material, which was cooled to increase the responsibility by thermoelectric cooling method. The detection limit and span drift of the developed CO detector was 0.24ppm and 0.03ppm(v/v) respectively.

  • One of the most important elements in satellite attitude control is sensor technology. Generally, inertial sensors introduce drift and noise which cause continuous errors. Absolute reference is needed to eliminate the problem of the inertial sensors. Star trackers are used primarily for such a purpose. There has been relatively less research effort or ground feasibility test experience on star trackers in the domestic side despite the importance of the associated technologies. In this paper, we re-introduce the basic concept of a star tracker and present the S/W simulator for the star tracker. The star simulator may be used ground test of a star tracker for the basic functioning test or the whole spacecraft test with the star tracker assembled.

  • Atmospheric visibility is one of the indicators used to evaluate the status of air quality. Based on a conceptual definition of visibility as the maximum distance at which the outline of the selected target can be recognized, an image analysis technique is introduced here and an algorithm is developed for visibility monitoring. Although there are various measurement techniques, ranging from bulk and precise instruments to naked eye observation techniques, each has their own limitations. In this study, a series of image analysis techniques were introduced and examined for in-situ application. An imaging system was built up using a digital camera and was installed on the study sites in Incheon and Seoul separately. Visual range was also monitored by using a dual technology visibility sensor in Incheon and transmissometer in Seoul simultaneously. The Sobel mask filter was applied to detect the edge lines of objects by extracting the high frequency from the digital image. The root mean square (RMS) index of variation among the pixels in the image was substantially correlated with the visual ranges in Incheon and Seoul with correlations of $R^2$=0.88 and $R^2$=0.71, respectively. The regression line equations between the visual range and the RMS index in Incheon and Seoul were VR=$2.36e^{0.46{\times}(RMS)}$ and VR=$3.18e^{0.15{\times}(RMS)}$, respectively. It was also confirmed that the fine particles ($PM_{2.5}$) have more impacts to the impairment of visibility than coarse particles.

  • The purpose of study was to evaluate effects for repetitive use of thumb according to two different input types (button and touch) of mobile phones. A total of eight young and healthy subjects (6 males and 2 females: $24.63{\pm}8.04$ years) volunteered, and force measurement on thumb using film type pressure sensor was carried out for an hour. Before the experiment De Quervain's syndrome test were performed to check the left and right muscles related with thumb motion and after measuring the pressing force fatigue feeling survey achieved. For a statistical analysis, 1-to-5 ranking scale was used to score the fatigue feeling. From the result of pressure measurement, forces acting on thumb in button type were 3.36 times (the right thumb) and 3.16 times (the left thumb) for the touch type. And the result of survey, fatigue by using the button type of mobile phone was largely triggered than by using touch type. The abductor pollicis brevis and the flexor pollicis brevis were found as common part of fatigue for repetitively using thumb during texting messages. In the further study, some quantitative fatigue comparisons for various input motions are required to analyze repetitive strain injury syndrome.

  • The development of technology has led to ubiquitous health care service, which enables many patients to receive medical services anytime and anywhere. For the ubiquitous health care environment, real-time measurement of biomedical signals is very important, and the medical instruments must be small and portable or wearable. So, such devices have been developed to measure biomedical signals. In this study, we develop the biomedical monitoring device which is sensing the PPG signal, one of the useful signal in the field of ubiquitous healthcare. We design a watch-like biomedical signal monitoring system without a finger probe to prevent the user's inconvenience. This system obtains the PPG from the radial artery using a sensor in the wrist band. But, new device developed in this paper is easy to get the motion artifacts. So, we proposed new algorithm removing the motion artifacts from the PPG signal. The method detects motion artifacts by changing the degree of brightness of the light source. If the brightness of the light source is reduced, the PPG pulses will disappear. When the PPG pulses have disappeared completely, the remaining signal is not the signal that results from the changing blood flow. We believe that this signal is the motion artifact and call it the noise reference signal. The motion artifacts are removed by subtracting the noise reference signal from the input signal. We apply this algorithm to the system, so we can stabilize the biomedical monitoring system we designed.
