  • A new MAC protocol, MT-MAC(Multi-Tier Medium Access Control) by name, is proposed for dense sensor networks. Depending on the density of nodes in a virtual cluster, the cluster header performs the splitting to several tiers in nodes of virtual cluster. MT-MAC split the tiers to use modfied-SYNC message after receiving the beacon message from the cluster header. Because only the sensor nodes in the same tier communicate each other, less power is consumed and longer network life time is guaranteed. By a simulation method with NS-2, we evaluated our protocol. In dense nodes environments, MT-MAC protocol shows better results than S-MAC in terms of packet delivery rates throughput and energy consumption.

  • Wireless sensor networks are comprised of sensor nodes with resource-constrained hardware. Nodes in the sensor network without adequate protection may be compromised by adversaries. Such compromised nodes are vulnerable to the attacks like false reports injection attacks and false data injection attacks on legitimate reports. In false report injection attacks, an adversary injects false report into the network with the goal of deceiving the sink or the depletion of the finite amount of energy in a battery powered network. In false data injection attacks on legitimate reports, the attacker may inject a false data for every legitimate report. To address such attacks, the probabilistic voting-based filtering scheme (PVFS) has been proposed by Li and Wu. However, each cluster head in PVFS needs additional transmission device. Therefore, this paper proposes a fuzzy logic-based false report detection method (FRD) to mitigate the threat of these attacks. FRD employs the statistical en-route filtering scheme as a basis and improves upon it. We demonstrate that FRD is efficient with respect to the security it provides, and allows a tradeoff between security and energy consumption, as shown in the simulation.

  • Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) is one of the key technologies that make it possible to provide u-service in a ubiquitous society, however, it has disadvantages such as difficulty of managing sensor nodes and weaknesses of stability or mobility in large-scale WSNs. In order to solve these problems, 6LoWPAN that integrates with WSNs and IP networks has been studied widely. In this paper, we propose a Location Tracking Service Based on Google Map (LTSGM) system using 6LoWPAN. Since LTSGM system provides visual location information of sensor nodes through Google Map, it is possible to makes it easier than ever to manage sensor nodes in large-scale WSNs. Moreover, LTSGM can be used for various services such as applications for disaster or crime because it can trace the location of mobile nodes. Implementation of LTSGM system will be a test platform for 6LoWPAN.

  • In this paper we propose the QAC-MAC that supports Quality of Service(QoS) and saves energy resources of the sensor node, and hence prolonging the lifetime of the sensor network with multiple sink nodes. Generally, the nodes nearest to the sink node often experience heavy congestion since all data is forwarded toward the sink through those nodes. So this critically effects on the delay-constraint data traffics. QAC-MAC uses a hybrid mechanism that adapts scheduled scheme for medium access and scheduling and unscheduled scheme based on TDMA for no data collision transmission. Generally speaking, characteristics of the real-time traffic with higher priority tends to be bursty and has same destination. QAC-MAC adapts cross-layer concept to rearrange the data transmission order in each sensor node's queue, saves energy consumption by allowing few nodes in data transmission, and prolongs the network lifetime.

  • Sensor network applications need synchronized time extremely such as object tracking, consistent state updates, duplicate detection, and temporal order delivery. This paper describes reliable time synchronization protocol (RTSP) for wireless sensor networks. In the proposed method, synchronization error is decreased by creating hierarchical tree with lower depth and reliability is improved by maintaining and updating information of candidate parent nodes. The RTSP reduces recovery time and communication overheads comparing to TPSN when there are topology changes owing to moving of nodes, running out of energy and physical crashes. Simulation results show that RTSP has about 20% better performance than TPSN in synchronization accuracy. And the number of message in the RTSP is $20%{\sim}60%$ lower than that in the TPSN when nodes are failed in the network. In case of different transmission range of nodes, the communication overhead in the RTSP is reduced up to 40% than that in the TPSN at the maximum.

  • 6LoWPAN (IPv6 over Low Power Wireless Sensor Network) standardized by IETF does not support the mobility of wireless sensor nodes. Since the wireless sensor node, subject to a lot of constraints in the CPU, memory, a battery is not easy to apply to existing protocols such as Mobile IPv6. In this paper, we propose a novel mobility management architecture and methods to work with 6LoWPAN based on the analysis on FPMIPv6 (Fast PMIPv6) the host is not a handover procedure performed in order to support the mobility of such sensor nodes. It was suggested the use of a dispatch code pattern that is not currently used in 6LoWPAN for inter-working, MAG and MAC, MAC in order to reduce packet loss caused as the authentication delay in the handover process to minimize the power consumption of a sensor node that is caused by the re-transmission the new concept of temporary guarantee (temporary guarantee) and trust relationships (trust relationship) between AAA and introduced.

  • Wireless sensor networks (WSN) can be more reliable and easier to program and use with the help of sensor database management systems (SDMS). SDMS establish a user-friendly SQL-based interface to process declarative user-defined queries over sensor readings from WSN. Typical queries in SDMS are ad-hoc snapshot queries and long-running, continuous queries. In SDMSs queries are flooded to all nodes in the sensor net, and query results are sent back from nodes that have qualified results to a base station. For query flooding to all nodes, and result flooding to the base station, a lot of communication energy consuming is required. This paper suggests an efficient in-network index solution, named Distributed Information Gathering (DIG) to process range queries in a sensor net environment that can save energy by reducing query and result flooding.

  • In this study, a technique that uses wireless impedance sensor nodes is proposed to monitor tensile force of structural cable. To achieve this goal, the following approaches were implemented. First, a wireless impedance sensor node was designed for automated and cost-efficient prestress-loss monitoring. Second, an impedance-based algorithm was embedded in the wireless impedance sensor node for autonomous structural health monitoring of structural cables. Third, a tensile force monitoring technique that uses an interface plate for structural cables was proposed to overcome the limitations of the wireless impedance sensor node such as its narrow-band measurable frequency ranges. Finally, the applicability of the wireless impedance sensor node and the technique that uses the interface washer were evaluated in a lab-scaled prestressed concrete (PSC) girder model with internal and external tendons for which several prestress-loss scenarios were experimentally monitored with the wireless impedance sensor nodes.

  • Sensor networks are composed of a great number of sensor nodes. Since all sensor nodes are energy-restricted and hard to recharge, it is very important. However, the energy consumption may significantly increase if mobile sources or sinks exist in sensor networks. The reason is that the routing information for mobile sources and sinks needs to be update frequently for efficientdata delivery. The routing algorithm supporting mobile sinks should consider not only continuous data delivery but also the energy consumption of sensor nodes. However, most of the existing research focuses on even energy consumption while the mobility of sinks and sources is rarely consider. In this paper, we propose an efficient routing protocol with multiple virtual grids to reduce energy consumption and improve packets delivery efficiency. Then this paper considers the mobility. Simulation results show that our algorithm can guarantee high data delivery ratio and lower average delivery delay, while consuming lower energy than existing routing protocols in sensor networks.

  • The goal of this research is to enhance the maintenance and monitoring system of ship environment using sensor network. It is important to know the location information of sensor nodes to control the sensors and to obtain the sensor data from sensor network inside the ship. In this paper, we address the grouping and routing mechanism according to the relative distance of sensor nodes, based on LEACH and PEGASIS. We also consider the fault tolerant mechanism using the location information of sensor nodes.
