  • Because of the limited power resource, we need a reliable low-power media access control technique suitable for unmaned remote sensor operation condition for the unmanned sensor processor to perform the task in the remote wireless network situation. Therefore CSMA/CA and X-MAC is generally considered to effectively transmit the signal in the low-power wireless network. In this paper, we propose the more efficient low-power LP-MAC Technique which consumes the minimum power and transmits the data faster in condition that the mobile nodes' joining to and leaving from the network which consists of the fixed nodes is fluid. The fixed nodes operate in an asynchronous mode to perform the network self-configuration and transmit data faster to the mobile node which is frequently join and leave the network. When the mobile node leaves the network, the network's operation mode will be synchronous mode to achieve the minimum power consumption, thus the minimum power operation becomes possible.

  • LEACH, a layer-based routing protocol used in wireless sensor networks, sends fused data from the cluster head to the sink node in a single hop, so as the network size increases, the distance to the sink node increases significantly, which increases energy consumption. In addition, existing multi-hop transmission studies to solve this problem have problems with reverse transmission in the process of finding the next node to be transmitted and passing through this node. In this paper, we propose a multi-hop routing technique that selects a relay node based on the distance to the sink node and transmits it to a relay node via general nodes located in a straight line between the relay node and each cluster head. By reducing the transmission distance between nodes and minimizing reverse transmission occurring in the process through adjacent nodes, it was confirmed that the network life was extended compared to the previously proposed LEACH and EEACP protocols.

  • Link quality assessment is a crucial part of sensor network formation to stably operate large-scale wireless sensor networks (WSNs). A stability of path consisting of several nodes strongly depends on all link quality between pair of consecutive nodes. Thus it is very important to assess the link quality on the stage of building a routing path. In this paper, we present a link quality assessment method, Hybrid Link Quality Metric (HQLM), which uses both of LQI and RSSI from RF chip of sensor nodes to minimize set-up time and energy consumption for network formation. The HQLM not only reduces the time and energy consumption, but also provides complementary cooperation of LQI and RSSI. In order to evaluate the validity and efficiency of the proposed method, we measure PDR (Packet Delivery Rate) by exchanging multiple messages and then, compare PDR to the result of HQLM for evaluation. From the research being carried out, we can conclude that the HQLM performs better than either LQI- or RSSI-based metric in terms of recall, precision, and matching on link quality.

  • In Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), various Data-Centric Storages (DCS) schemes have been proposed to store the collected data and to efficiently process a query. A DCS scheme assigns distributed data regions to sensor nodes and stores the collected data to the sensor which is responsible for the data region to process the query efficiently. However, since the whole data stored in a node will be lost when a fault of the node occurs, the accuracy of the query processing becomes low, In this paper, we propose an in-network aggregation query processing method that assures the high accuracy of query result in the case of data loss due to the faults of the nodes in the DCS scheme. When a data loss occurs, the proposed method creates a compensation model for an area of data loss using the linear regression technique and returns the result of the query including the virtual data. It guarantees the query result with high accuracy in spite of the faults of the nodes, To show the superiority of our proposed method, we compare E-KDDCS (KDDCS with the proposed method) with existing DCS schemes without the data-loss correction method. In the result, our proposed method increases accuracy and reduces query processing costs over the existing schemes.

  • What are important in wireless sensor networks are reliable data transmission, energy efficiency of each node, and the maximization of network life through the distribution of load among the nodes. The present study proposed DSPR, a dynamic unique path routing machanism that considered these requirements in wireless sensor networks. In DSPR, data is transmitted through a dynamic unique path, which has the least cost calculated with the number of hops from each node to the sink, and the average remaining energy. At that time, each node monitors its transmission process and if a node detects route damage it changes the route dynamically, referring to the cost table, and by doing so, it enhances the reliability of the network and distributes energy consumption evenly among the nodes. In addition, when the network topology is changed, only the part related to the change is restructured dynamically instead of restructuring the entire network, and the life of the network is extended by inhibiting unnecessary energy consumption in each node as much as possible. In the results of our experiment, the proposed DSPR increased network life by minimizing energy consumption of the nodes and improved the reliability and energy efficiency of the network.

  • In this paper, we design the r-Sensor protocol for reliable data transmission in the Intelligent Home Service based on the wireless sensor network environment. The r-Sensor protocol improve the reliability of data transmission and node fairness using simple routing algorithm, congestion control, and loss recovery method that minimize the load of relay node. Reposed routing algorithm find out upstream and downstream nodes using the Network Management packet. Meanwhile, loss recovery algorithm uses the Aggregated-Nack. To apply supposed algorithm, the IHS-AMR(Intelligent Home Service - Automatic Meter Reader) and sensor node are designed and implemented in hardware. The IHS-AMR provides remote metering service and also offers home safety service by internetworking with sensor network, mobile phone network and internet.

  • One of the critical issues in a sensor network concerns the detection of changes in data streams. Recently presented change detection schemes primarily use a sliding window model to detect changes. In such a model, a distance function is used to compare two sliding windows. Therefore, the performance of the change detection scheme is greatly influenced by the distance function. With regard to sensor nodes, however, energy consumption constitutes a critical design concern because the change detection scheme is implemented in a sensor node, which is a small battery-powered device. In this paper, we present a comparative study of various distance functions in terms of execution time, energy consumption, and detecting accuracy through simulation of speech signal data. The simulation result demonstrates that the Euclidean distance function has the highest performance while consuming a low amount of power. We believe our work is the first attempt to undertake a comparative study of distance functions in terms of execution time, energy consumption, and accuracy detection.

  • In resource-constrained, low-cost, radio-frequency identification (RFID) sensor-based mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs), ensuring security without performance degradation is a major challenge. This paper introduces a novel combination of steps in lightweight protocol integration to provide a secure network for RFID sensor-based MANETs using error-correcting codes (ECCs). The proposed scheme chooses a quasi-cyclic ECC. Key pairs are generated using the ECC for establishing a secure message communication. Probability analysis shows that code-based identification; key generation; and authentication and trust management schemes protect the network from Sybil, eclipse, and de-synchronization attacks. A lightweight model for the proposed sequence of steps is designed and analyzed using an Alloy analyzer. Results show that selection processes with ten nodes and five subgroup controllers identify attacks in only a few milliseconds. Margrave policy analysis shows that there is no conflict among the roles of network members.

  • A simple modification of well known Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (LEACH) protocol is proposed to exploit cooperative diversity. Instead of selecting a single cluster-head, we propose M cluster-heads in each cluster to obtain a diversity of order M. The cluster-heads gather data from all the sensor nodes within the cluster using same technique as LEACH. Cluster-heads transmit gathered data cooperatively towards the destination or higher order cluster-head. We propose a code combining based cooperative diversity protocol which is similar to coded cooperation that maximizes the performance of the proposed cooperative LEACH protocol. The implementation of the proposed cooperative strategy is analyzed. We develop the upper bounds on bit error rate (BER) and frame error rate (FER) for our proposal. Space time block codes (STBC) are also a suitable candidate for our proposal. In this paper, we argue that the STBC performs worse than the code combining cooperation.

  • In this paper, we propose a traffic adaptive mechanism that controls the receiver's wakeup periods based on the generated traffic amounts. The proposed control mechanism is designed for military, wild animal monitoring, and forest fire surveillance applications. In these environments, a low-rate data transmission is usually required between sensor nodes. However, continuous data is generated when events occur. Therefore, legacy mechanisms are ineffective for these applications. Our control mechanism showed a better performance in energy efficiency compared to the RI-MAC owing to the elimination of the sender node's idle listening.
