Confidence region of identified parameters and optimal sensor locations based on sensitivity analysis

  • This paper presents a computational method for a confidence region of identified parameters which are affected by measurement noise and error contained in prescribed parameters. The method is based on sensitivities of the identified parameters with respect to model parameter error and measurement noise along with the law of error propagation. By conducting numerical experiments on simple models, it is confirmed that the confidence region coincides well with the results of numerical experiments. Furthermore, the optimum arrangement of sensor locations is evaluated when uncertainty exists in prescribed parameters, based on the concept that square sum of coefficients of variations of identified results attains minimum. Good agreement of the theoretical results with those of numerical simulation confirmed validity of the theory.

Thick-film ammonia gas sensor with high sensitivity and excellent selectivity

  • A highly sensitive ammonia gas sensor using thick-film technology has been fabricated and examined. The sensing material of the gas sensor is FeOx-$WO_{3}-SnO_{2}$ oxide semiconductor. The sensor exhibits resistance increase upon exposure to low concentration of ammonia gas. The resistance of the sensor is decreased, on the other hand, for exposure to reducing gases such as ethyl alcohol, methane, propane and carbon monoxide. A novel method for detecting ammonia gas quite selectively utilizing a sensor array consisting of an ammonia gas sensor and a compensation element has been proposed and developed. The compensation element is a Pt-doped $WO_{3}-SnO_{2}$gas sensor which shows opposite direction of resistance change in comparison with the ammonia gas sensor upon exposure to ammonia gas. Excellent selectivity has been achieved using the sensor array having two sensing elements.

광섬유를 이용한 고감도 압력센서 개발 (Development of high sensitivity pressure sensor using optical fiber)

  • This paper presents the system demonstrator for an optical fiber sensor system developed as a technological evaluator suitable for generic sensric sensing applications. The new type of fiber-optic sensor employed a diaphragm displacement transforms pressure into optical intensity. Form this sensing technique, we can know the variation of source intensity, the loss of a optical fiber, and the reflectivity of the diaphragm surface. Experimental results are applied to the low-pressure transducer suitable for measuring miniature pressure.

  • Surface roughness measurement system with capacitance type gap sensor. Tentative result from the calibration measurement showed the potential applicability of the sensor to the processed specimen. In order to test the sensitivity of the measurement system, several parameters including valley depth, width of the specimen have been changed. Effect of the charge area between sensor and specimen surface has been also analyzed.

  • A silicon microbridge flow sensor has been developed. The heat transfer within silicon microbridge is modeled to predict the characteristics of the sensor. The flow sensor shows high sensitivity at small flow rate. This device is simple to fabricate, using standard IC and micromachining technology.

  • An experimental investigation of the basic characteristics of a micro-cantilever sensor was performed by inspecting the amplitude and frequency characteristics using a commercial tuning fork. Application of acetone and ethanol with a volume of $1 {\mu}l$ on the tine of a vibrating tuning fork cause immediate response in its amplitude and frequency. It has shown that the tuning fork has ability to recognize a chemical agent with high sensitivity.

Solid Electrochemical Method of Measuring Hydrogen Concentration with O2-/H+ Hetero-Ionic Junction

  • A novel method for measuring hydrogen concentration is introduced, along with its working principle and a novel detection algorithm. This configuration requires no additional reference compartment for potentiometric electrochemical measurements; therefore, it is the most suitable for measuring dissolved hydrogen in the liquid phase. The sensor's electromotive force saturates at a certain point, depending on the hydrogen concentration during the heating process of the sensor operation. This dynamic temperature scanning method provides higher sensitivity than the constant temperature measurement method.

A development of map building sensor system for mobile robot using low cost photo sensor

  • Mobile robot has various sensors for describing the external world. The ultrasonic sensor widely applied to the most mobile robot to detect the obstacle and environment owing to low cost, its easy to use. However, ultrasonic sensor has major problems: the uncertainty information of sensor, false readings caused by specular reflection, multi path effect, low angular resolution and sensitivity to changes in temperature and humidity. This paper describes a sensor system for map building of mobile robot. It was made of low cost PSD (Position Sensitive Detector) sensor array and high speed RISC MPU. PSD sensor is cost effective and light weighting but its output signal has many noises. We propose heuristic S/W filter to effectively remove these noises. The developed map building sensor system was equipped on a mobile robot and was compared with ultrasonic sensor through field test.

  • ISFET를 바탕으로 한 포도당 센서일 경우에 저감도, 드리프트 현상, 긴 응답시간의 문제점들을 가지고 있다. 이러한 이유로, ISFET 포도당센서에 백금 엑츄에이터(Pt actuator)를 내장시켜 반응부산물인 $H_2O_2$를 전기분해하는 전류법적인 엑츄에이션(amperometric actuation) 기법을 도입하여 감도를 높였다. 또한 출력신호의 기준선(baseline)을 확인한 후, $H_2O_2$ 전기분해에 의한 pH 변화분만을 검출하여 출력신호로 사용하는 새로운 측정법을 고안하여 심각한 드리프트를 배제하였다. 이러한 전류법적 엑츄에이션과 측정 기술로써 ISFET 포도당 센서의 동작특성이 개선되었다. 제작된 ISFET 포도당센서는 포도당 농도에 따른 응답의 크기가 30mM의 인산완충용액인 PBS(phosphate buffer solution)에서 약 26mV/decade의 높은 감도와 선형성을 보였다. 이 센서를 사용하여 높은 정밀도를 갖는 휴대용 포도당 측정기를 개발하고 그 특성을 평가하였다.

생물학적 분석용 IMI 하이브리드 다중레이어 구조 기반 성능 향상된 표면 플라즈몬 공명 센서의 설계 및 특성 분석 (Design and Evaluation of IMI Multilayer Hybrid Structure-based Performance Enhanced Surface Plasmon Resonance Sensor for Biological Analysis)

  • 표면 플라즈몬 공명 센서에서 센서의 성능은 민감도(nm/RIU)와 분해능인 공명 픽의 형태에 의해서 결정된다. 이러한 특성은 센서에 활용되는 구조체의 물질과 구조적 특성에 따라 달라진다. 본 연구에서는 insulator-metal-insulator (IMI) 다중 층 구조를 기반으로 한 표면 플라즈몬 공명 센서 구조의 최적화 과정을 통해 센싱 레이어의 굴절률 변화에 대한 높은 민감도 달성과 동시에 좁은 full width at half maximum (FWHM)과 픽의 깊이 이 두 가지의 요소를 기반으로 한 분해능이 큰 공명 픽을 형성하도록 하는 구조를 찾았다. 이 구조를 통해 센싱 레이어의 굴절률이 1.45-1.46 범위에서 변화할 때 FWHM = 11.92 nm, 픽 깊이 93.1%의 공명 픽이 형성되었고 최대 8,390 nm/RIU의 민감도 성능을 확인했다. 특히 금 박막을 활용한 파장 기반의 표면 플라즈몬 센서는 공명 픽의 너비 확장이 발생하나 금 박막을 사용하고도 좁은 FWHM을 달성함에 의의가 있다. 본 연구에서 제안하는 다중 층 설계를 기반으로 한 센서는 미세한 굴절률 변화 값에 대한 높은 민감도와 더불어 높은 분해능을 가지는 파장 기반 표면 플라즈몬 센서로 활용 가능하다.
