Prototype Fabrication and Performance Evaluation of Metal-oxide Nanoparticle Sensor for Detecting of Hazardous and Noxious Substances Diluted in Sea Water (해수 중 유해위험물질 검출을 위한 금속산화물 나노 입자 센서의 시작품 제작 및 성능 평가)

  • To detect harmful chemical substances in seawater, we fabricated a prototype sensor and evaluated its performance. The prototype sensor consisted of a detector, housing, and driving circuit. We built the detector by printing an Indium-Tin-Oxide (ITO) nanoparticle film on a flexible substrate, and it had two detection parts for simultaneous detection of temperature and HNS concentration. The housing connected the detector and the driving circuit and was made of Teflon material to prevent chemical reactions that may affect sensor performance. The driving circuit supplied electric power, and display measured data using a bridge circuit and an Arduino board. We evaluated the sensor performances such as response (ΔR), the limit of detection (LOD), response time, and errors to confirm the specification.

  • Social costs analysis seeks to reveal the environmental effects of transportation policy. It delivers a sense of the effects of the public's daily travel and the costs that are or would be incurred from individual trips. Moreover, the accumulated total number of trips will uncover the effects of travel on society. This article shows the quantitative analysis of the economic outcomes of travel using social costs estimation methods. In order to support urban planning tasks, this research implemented analysis tool for social costs estimation by travel behavior. For a case study, a jave based application which can convert people's trip data into social costs is developed. the application used for simulating student-housing effects by estimating social costs changes. The analysis included the attributes, building scale and locational changes of the student housing as well as transforms of the students' trips.

  • In this study, a mathematical model for analyzing the shifting transients of the passenger car with an automatic transmission is proposed. The proposed model comprises a power transmission system and a vehicle system, which are coupled. In order to extract the modeling parameters, on-road car test is carried out. The model is composed of a detailed powertrain, an engine/AT housing, a simplified suspension system, tires and a vehicle body model. On the test, the vehicle accelerations and pitch ratio are measured by using accelerometers and a gyro sensor. The speeds, the brake signal, and the throttle position are taken from sensors which already exist in the vehicle. Considering natural ftequencies, which is calculated from the measured accelerations, and the characteristic equation, vehicle model parameters are identified. Dynamic behaviors during upshift or downshift are simulated using the proposed vehicle model. By comparing and analyzing the simulation result and on-road car test data, the vibration of the Engine/AT housing influences the shifting transients. The effect of model parameters are also studied. Among model parameters, the location of engine mountings influences the vibration of the vehicle body.

Structural Analysis of RIROB(Reactor Inspection Robot) (원자로용 수중탐상기의 구조해석)

  • This paper presents the structural analysis of RIROB(Reactor Inspection Robot). Actually, several analyses such as kinetodynamics analysis, fluid mechanics analysis and structural mechanics analysis etc. should be carried out in the design of RIROB. These analyses are executed through the use of com-puter aided engineering(CAE) systems. The kinetodynamics analysis is carried out using a simple fluid dynamic analysis model for the water flow over the sensor support surface instead of difficult fluid mechanics analysis. Simultaneously the structural mechanics analysis is carried out to obtain the mini-mum thickness of the RIROB housing. The minimum thickness of the RIROB housing is evaluated to be 1.0 ㎝ for the safe design of RIROB. The kinetodynamics analysis of RIROB is performed using ADAMS and the static structural mechanics analysis of RIROB is performed using NISA.

  • In this study, a new airbag sensor packaging technique of directly attachment by adhesive to the automobile frame is introduced. To assess the feasibility for the packaging, a test instrument was manufactured to examine the impact sensibility by drop tests. The conventional sensor module attached mechanically by bolts with plastic housing and the new sensor packaging were installed to aluminum channel, and the results were compared with each other. Numerical analysis was also performed to investigate the signal characteristics created by the sensors. The preliminary results showed that the pattern of the MEMS sensor signal was strongly dependent on the structural behavior of the frame where the sensors were installed, which indicated the complexity of the packaging design for proper airbag deployments.

  • In this paper, we designed the novel capacitive sensor and system for measuring the position of the piston in hydraulic cylinder. The magnetic or LVDT sensors have been widely used to measure the position of the piston because of its high accuracy, but these types of sensor are very expensive and have difficulty in use because of its complexity. To overcome these disadvantages, we studied the optimized non-contact capacitive sensor and designed detecting system for accurate measuring the location of piston in hydraulic cylinder. The proposed capacitive sensor and detecting system have the possibility of practical use for hydraulic cylinder through experiments.

Development of a Moisture Content Sensor for Rapeseed as Biodiesel Raw Material (바이오디젤 원료용 유채 함수율 센서 개발)

  • This study was conducted to develop a moisture sensor for rapeseed, a bio-diesel material. A typical rapeseed, SUNMANG, was used as a raw material. The rapeseed moisture content sensor consists of three components, such as upper and bottom electrodes, a test material dish, and a fixing housing. To evaluate the performance, a data acquisition system was equipped with the rapeseed moisture sensor, computer, printer, and main board. The findings of this study were: 1) the rapeseed moisture content was inversely proportional to electric resistance, and 2) values of electric resistance were recorded in a range of $10{\sim}100\;M{\Omega}$, depending upon a change of the moisture content. The determination of coefficient ($R^2$) and standard error between rapeseed moisture content and electric resistance were 0.9921 and ${\pm}0.289$, which indicated a highly correlative relationship. The response of rapeseed moisture sensor to temperature change was also observed for further performance test. Satisfying results were obtained, such as the determination of coefficient ($R^2$) of 0.9918, predicted standard error of ${\pm}0.373%$, deviation of 0.103%, measurement error of $0.14{\sim}0.48%$, standard deviation of $0.01{\sim}0.22%$, and measurement time of 28.3 s per point, respectively.

  • The estimation of crack damages is studied using the radio frequency system and tilt switch sensors in RC beams. If load is received on the center of the flexible specimen, sensor housing using cement mortar of the flexible specimen will be destroyed, and these are become to send signals of damages at the radio frequency system connected with tilt switch sensors. This study is fundamental research for the estimation of the damage using tilt switch sensors in RC beams.

Fabrication and Characteristics of Pyroelectric IR Sensor Using $1.6{\mu}m$ P(VDF/TrFE) thin film

  • A pyroelectric senior using P(VDF/TrFE) film for sensing materials has been fabricated and evaluated with other commercial pyroelectric sensors that use ceramic materials for sensing. The device was mounted in a TO-5 housing to detect infrared light of $5.5{\sim}14\;{\mu}m$ wavelength. The NEP (noise equivalent power) and specific detectivity $D^*$ of the device were $2.13{\times}10^{-8}\;W$ and $9.37{\times}10^6\;cm/w$ respectively under emission energy of $13\;{\mu}W/cm^2$ respectively. These result shows a better characteristics than other commercial pyroelectric sensors NEP $8.08{\times}10^{-7}\;W$ and $D^*$ $2.47{\times}10^5\;cm/w$.
