In order to examine the primary trends and characteristics of geological lineaments along the southwestern boundary of Okcheon zone, we carried out the analysis of geological lineament trends over six selected sub-areas using Landsat-5 TM images and digital elevation model. The trends of lineaments is determined by a minimum variance method, and the resulting geological lineament map can be obtained through generalized Hough transform. We have corrected look direction biases reduces the interpretability of remotely sensed image. An approach of histogram modification is also adopted to extract drainage pattern specifically in alluvial plains. The lineament extracting method adopted in this study is very effective to analyze geological lineaments, and that helps estimate geological trends associated various with the tectonic events. In six sub-areas, the general trends of lineaments are characterized NW, NNW, NS-NNE, and NE directions. NW trends in Cretaceous volcanic rocks and Jurassic granite areas may represent tension joints that developed by rejuvenated end of the Early Cretaceous left-lateral strike-slip motion along the Honam Shear Zone, while NE and NS-NNE trends correspond to fault directions which are parallel to the above Shear Zone. NE and NW trends in Granitic Gneiss are parallel to the direction of schitosity, and NS-NNE and NE trends are interpreted the lineation by compressive force which acted by right-lateral strike-slip fault from late Triassic to Jurassic. And in foliated Granite, NE and NNE trends are coincided with directions of ductile foliation and Honam Shear Zone, and NW-NNW trends may be interpreted direction of another compressional foliation (Triassic to Early Jurassic) or end of the Early Cretaceous tensional joints. We interpreted NS-NNE direction lineation is related with the rejuvenated Chugaryung Fault System.

High resolution aerial photographs and digital elevation models for Bangpo beach using UAV were generated in this study to analyze the thematic and geometric characteristics of coastal features. Based on 728 aerial images acquired on September 10, 2016 by the UAV, a image mosaic at 2.2 cm spatial resolution and a digital elevation model at 4.4 cm spatial resolution were developed. This study found out that Bangpo beach consisted of intertidal zone and supratidal zone. The intertidal zone can be subdivided into lower part and upper part with distinctive geomorphological characteristics. While the lower part included sand bars and ripple marks along the coastline, the cusps and sand dunes were the major coastal features of the upper part. Part of the intertidal zone was occupied by shore platform with average slope of 0.9 degree containing various sizes of gravels. The supratidal zone slanted toward ocean with berms on the surface with an interval of 15 m. These coastal features indicated the flow intensity towards to the land and tidal effect. It validated that the UAV application in coastal research was very effective analyzing to examine coastal processes.
Using a computationalfluid dynamics(CFD) model, thisstudy evaluated the representativeness of an air quality monitoring system (AQMS) in an urban area and presented a methodology to determine the suitable AQMS locations for specific purposes. For this, we selected a 1.6 km × 1.6 km area around the Eunpyeong-gu AQMS (AQMS 111181) as a target area. We conducted simulationsfor two emission scenarios (scenario one: air pollutants transported from inflow boundaries, scenario two: air pollutants emitted from roads). Urban airflows were markedly influenced by mountainous terrain located in the northeast and southeast of the target area, and complicated airflow patterns occurred around the buildings. The distributions of air pollutants were dependent on the terrain (mountain) in scenario one, but the road location and building height in scenario 2. We evaluated whether the AQMS could represent the air quality in the target area based on the simulations for two scenarios. The concentrations simulated at the AQMS were similar in magnitude to the layer mean concentrations, which indicated good representativeness for the air quality in the target area. We also suggested which locations were suitable for different measurement purposes (hot spots, clean zones, average zones, shelter zones, equi-background zones).
The Southern Volcanic Zone (SVZ) of Chile consists of many volcanoes, including the Mt.Villarrica and Mt.Llaima, and the two volcanoes are covered with snow at the top of Mountain. The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between the ice caps and the volcanic activity of the two volcanoes for 25 years by using the satellite image data are available in a time series. A total of 60 Landsat-5 TM and Landsat-7 ETM + data were used for the study from September 1986 to February 2011. Using NDSI (Normalized Difference Snow Index) algorithm and SRTM DEM, snow cover and snowline were extracted. Finally, the snow cover area, lower-snowline, and upper-snowline, which are quantitative indicators of snow cover change, were directly or indirectly affected by volcanic activity, were extracted from the satellite images. The results show that the volcanic activity of Villarrica volcano is more than 55% when the snow cover is less than 20 and the lower-snowline is 1,880 m in Llaima volcano. In addition, when the upper-snowline of the two volcanoes is below -170m, it can be confirmed that the volcano is differentiated with a probability of about 90%. Therefore, the changes in volcanic snowfall are closely correlated with volcanic activity, and it is possible to indirectly deduce volcanic activity by monitoring the snow.

Both ends of welding line are often closed by wall in the welding of ship blocks. In this research, seam tracking sensing system for butt welding in the condition with wall was developed. Seam tracking sensing system measures position of carriage from wall and detects root-pass of welding line. The system consists of the laser displacement sensors and ultrasonic sensors. The laser displacement sensor reciprocal1y rotates by the motor and measures a distance from laser sensor to the welding material. The ultrasonic sensor measures a distance between welding system and walls. The distance measured by the ultrasonic sensor is used to get X(driving) position and to determine initial and end point of the weld line. Y(weaving) and Z(height) of the weld line are obtained by the distance measured by the laser displacement sensor and the orientation of the sensor. The sensing system includes the controller that is independent from the welding carriage. The seam tracking sensing system is attached to both side of welding carriage so that interference between welding torch and sensing system can be avoided during the welding. And both side sensing system minimize dead zone. Finally, developed sensing system was adhered to welding carriage and verified usefulness by experiments.

This study aims to develop the floating debris detection algorithm using a Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) and multispectral sensors. In addition, the occurrence range of floating debris was estimated by applying the algorithm. An aerial photograph using an unmanned aerial vehicle was used to generate an orthoimage that can calculate the area. A spectrum survey of water, plants litter, polystyrene foam etc. was conducted. After obtaining spectroscopic characteristics of floating debris and water, the River Floating Debris (RFD) index was calculated. And we detected the floating debris through band combination of sensor using RFD. As a result of the RFD application, accumulation zone of floating debris was confirmed at three sites in the orthoimage. It was estimated that a lot of floating debris was accumulated at 0.82 ha ($8,200m^2$), which is corresponding to 3.6% including the accumulation zone.

An integrated Mach-Zehnder interferometric sensor operating at 632.8 nm was designed and fabricated by the technology of planar rib waveguides. Rib waveguide based on silica system ($SiO_2-SiO_xN_y-SiO_2$) was geometrically designed to have single mode operation and high sensitivity. It was structured by semiconductor fabrication processes such as thin film deposition, photolithography, and RIE (Reactive Ion Etching). With the power observation, propagation loss measurement by cut-back method showed about 4.82 dB/cm for rib waveguides. Additionally the chromium mask process for an etch stop was employed to solve the core damaging problem in patterning the sensing zone on the chip. Refractive index measurement of water/ethanol mixture with this device finally showed a sensitivity of about $\pi$/($4.04{\times}10^{-3}$).
Coastal erosion happens frequently in many different types. To control coastal erosion zone effectively and establish response plans, we need to accumulate data indicating topography changes through monitoring the erosion situation continuously. UAV photogrammetric systems, which can fly autonomously at a low altitude, are recommended as an economical and precision means to monitor the coastal zones. In this study, we aim to verify the accuracy of the generated orthoimages and DEM as a result of processing the UAV data of a coastal zone by comparing them with various reference data. We established a verification routine and examined the possibilities of applying the UAV photogrammetric systems to monitoring coastal erosion by checking the analyzed accuracy by the routine. As a result of verifying the generated the geospatial information from acquired data under various configurations, the horizontal and vertical accuracy (RMSE) were about 2.7 cm and 4.8 cm respectively, which satisfied 5 cm, the accuracy required for coastal erosion monitoring.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of land-use and population change in rural area by new expressway. Chungbu expressway constructed in 1987, going through the south area of Kyunggi province from Seoul, was selected as a case expressway, and also 2 cities and 18 subdivisions of county in its surrounding area, as a case study area. To analyze the change characteristics before and after the construction, land-use maps of 1986 and 1996 were collected, including the census data for the years in cities and counties yearbooks. Remote sensing technology was applied to classify the land-use maps with six types of land use. Geographic information system was also used for spatial analysis, such as the land-use and accessibility changes. A 5 km buffer zone from interchange of the expressway showed about two times increase of urbanized built-up area than a 5 km buffer zone from the expressway. Accessibility from Seoul and cities was improved in most areas, which is accessing to Seoul through existing Youngdong expressway. Ten rural areas showed increased population with accessibility of average 52 minutes to Seoul and 19 minutes to cities, while eight areas showed decreased population with average 73 minutes to Seoul and 35 minutes to cities. This shows that the threshold value, which is time distance to Seoul and cities for population increase or decrease, one and half hours, respectively. Urbanized area was increased in most areas, even in population decrease areas, so this indicates that there are thinning rural areas, increasing urbanized area while decreasing population.
To evaluate the feasibility of using lineaments for the interpretation of regional geological structures, the extracted lineaments from satellite image and surveyed surface geological features mapped in the field were analyzed for the Euiseong Sub-basin. The lineaments extracted from Landsat-5 TM images show primary directions of N20$^{\circ}$~30$^{\circ}$E, N60$^{\circ}$~70$^{\circ}$E, N60$^{\circ}$~70$^{\circ}$W, which represent the trends of faults, strikes, and joints. In the sedimentary formation in the northern part of Palgongsan Uplift Zone, primary directions of the lineaments are NNE and NWW, and NEE in southern parts. The analysis of satellite lineaments is proved to be very useful to study the large-scale structures and surface geology of the Euiseong Sub-basin, whereas the previous research using brittle tectonics approach was advantaged in the outcrop scale in interpretation.
