  • This paper presents the development of digital robust fuzzy controller for uncertain nonlinear systems. The proposed approach is based on the intelligent digital redesign(IDR) method with considering the relaxed stability condition of fuzzy control system. The term IDR in the concerned system is to convert an existing analog robust control into an equivalent digital counterpart in the sense of the state-matching. We shows that the IDR problem can be reduced to find the digital fuzzy gains minimizing the norm distance between the closed-loop states of the analog and digital robust control systems. Its constructive conditions are expressed as the linear matrix inequalities(LMIs) and thereby easily tractable by the convex optimization techniques. Based on the nonquadratic Lyapunov function, the robust stabilization conditions are given for the sampled-data fuzzy system, and hence less conservative. A numerical example, chaotic Lorentz system, is demonstrated to visualize the feasibility of the proposed methodology.

  • The increasing computational capability of processors is driving the need for high bandwidth links to communicate and store the information that is processed. Such links are often an important part of multi processor interconnection, processor-to-memory interfaces and Serial-network interfaces. This paper describes a 0.11-${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ CMOS 4 Gbp s/pin 3-Level transceiver using RSL/(Rambus Signaling Logic) for high bandwidth. This system which uses a high-gain windowed integrating receiver with wide common-mode range which was designed in order to improve SNR when operating with the smaller input overdrive of 3-Level. For multi-gigabit/second application, the data rate is limited by Inter-Symbol Interference (ISI) caused by low pass effects of channel, process-limited on-chip clock frequency, and serial link distance. In order to detect the transmited 4Gbps/pin with 3-Level data sucessfully ,the receiver is designed using 3-stage sense amplifier. The proposed transceiver employes multi-level signaling (3-Level Pulse Amplitude Modulation) using clock multi phase, double data rate and Prbs patten generator. The transceiver shows data rate of 3.2 ~ 4.0 Gbps/pin with a 1GHz internal clock.

  • The distance in load parameter space to the closest voltage collapse point provides the worst case power margin and the left eigenvector identifies the most effective direction to steer the system to maximize voltage stability under contingency. This paper presents the results of the comparative performance study of the algorithms, which are applicable to a large scale power system, for computing the closest saddle node bifurcation (CSNB) point. Dobson's iterative method converges with robustness. However the slow process of updating the load increasing direction makes the algorithm less efficient. The direct method converges very quickly. But it diverges if the initial guess is not very close to CSNB. Zeng's method of estimating the approximate critical point in the pre-determined direction is attractive in the sense that it uses only using load flow equations. However, the method is found to be less efficient than Dobson's iterative method. It may be concluded from the above observation that the direct method with the initial values obtained by carrying out the iterative method twice is most efficient at this time and more efficient algorithms are needed for on-line application.

  • Ground-borne noise and vibration generated by underground transit system has been recognized as an important environmental problem. This study reviews several of the procedures that have been used to predict ground-borne vibration. The vibration responses are measured at three sites that have different soil qualities. The measured vibration levels are compared with the predicted results by previously used vibration level prediction models. There are some drawbacks to apply these prediction models to selected sites because most of the existing prediction models are primarily based on empirical data and all of them lack of analytical models for the mechanism of ground-borne vibration generation. radiation, and propagation. In this study a numerical method, which is based on explicit differential method, is used to compensate for the shortcomings of existing prediction models. Although numerically computed results are not quantitatively in good agreement with the measured results, the trends are comparable in the sense that vibration level does not decrease monotonically with distance. Also, the site with the deepest tunnel gives the highest vibration level.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore children and robot interaction in distant language learning environments using three different video-conferencing technologies-two traditional screen-based videoconference technologies and a telepresence robot. One American and six Korean elementary school students participated in our case study. We relied on narratives of one-on-one interviews and observation of nonverbal cues in robot assisted language learning. Our findings suggest that participants responded more positively to interactions via a telepresence robot than to two screen-based video-conferencings, with many citing a stronger sense of immediacy during robot-mediated communications.

  • As the demand for higher data-rate chip-to-chip communication such as memory-to-controller, processor-to-processor increases, low cost high-speed serial links\ulcorner become more attractive. This paper describes a 0.25-fm CMOS 1.6Gbps/pin 4-level transceiver using Stub Series Terminated Logic for high Bandwidth. For multi-gigabit/second application, the data rate is limited by Inter-Symbol Interference (ISI) caused by channel low pass effects, process-limited on-chip clock frequency, and serial link distance. The proposed transceiver uses multi-level signaling (4-level Pulse Amplitude Modulation) using push-pull type, double data rate and flash sampling. To reduce Process-Voltage-Temperature Variation and ISI including data dependency skew, the proposed high-speed calibration circuits with voltage swing controller, data linearity controller and slew rate controller maintains desirable output waveform and makes less sensitive output. In order to detect successfully the transmitted 1.6Gbps/pin 4-level data, the receiver is designed as simultaneous type with a kick - back noise-isolated reference voltage line structure and a 3-stage Gate-Isolated sense amplifier. The transceiver, which was fabricated using a 0.25 fm CMOS process, performs data rate of 1.6 ~ 2.0 Gbps/pin with a 400MHB internal clock, Stub Series Terminated Logic ever in 2.25 ~ 2.75V supply voltage. and occupied 500 * 6001m of area.

  • The Japanese 'H' motor company is the one of a few engine makers for F1 racing machine in the world. And it has a tradition and ability to make a humanoid walking robot 'Asimo'. But 'H' motor company is known as a motorcycle maker not a car in Korea. It wanted to reinforce the brand image and identity to Korean consumer. And it needed a powerful marketing tool for the brand image distinguished from other global motor companies. It demanded a stand design to show their powerful and unique identity for surpass other rivals in 2007 Seoul Motor Show. This stand for 'H' motor company in 2007 SMS has an area of 1,250m2 and located between huge domestic motor companies, K and SR. The design was planed to show its unique identity and image, overcoming its relatively small size. I designed a round-shape ceiling structures covered whole booth space for enclosure and vortical space sense. That made a strong brand image by light and sharp structures completely distinguished from other stands. And it has a main logo sign for recognizing the stand from a distance.

  • Local probe techniques such as scanning probe microscopy (SPM) or atomic force microscopy (AFM) extended our perception into ultra small world. Specially, the sense of touching was extended by AFM into the micro- and nanoworld and has provided complementary new insights of the microscopic world. In addition, touching objects is an essential step before trying to manipulate things. SPM as a touch sensor not only measure the mechanical properties but also detect different properties such as magnetic, electrical, ionic, thermal, chemical and biophysical properties in nanoscale and even less. Obtaining biophysical measurements, monitoring dynamics and processes together with high-resolution imaging of the biomolecules and cells with rather simpler sample preparation than any other techniques give great attractions to the scientists experimenting with biological samples. Among the many AFM capabilities we will specifically introduce the force plot which is used to measure tip-sample interactions and its application this time.
