Word Network Analysis based on Mutual Information for Ontology of Korean Rural Planning (한국농촌계획 온톨로지 구축을 위한 상호정보 기반 단어연결망 분석)

  • There has been a growing concern on ontology especially in recent knowledge-based industry and defining a field-customized semantic word network is essential for building it. In this paper, a word network for ontology is established with 785 publications of Korean Society of Rural Planning(KSRP), from 1995 to 2017. Semantic relationships between words in the publications were quantitatively measured with the 'normalized pointwise mutual information' based on the information theory. Appearance and co-appearance frequencies of nouns and adjectives in phrases are analyzed based on the assumption that a 'noun phrase' represents a single 'concept'. The word network of KSRP was compared with that of $WordNet^{TM}$, a world-wide thesaurus network, for the verification. It is proved that the KSRP's word network, established in this paper, provides words' semantic relationships based on the common concepts of Korean rural planning research field. With the results, it is expecting that the established word network can present more opportunity for preparation of the fourth industrial revolution to the field of the Korean rural planning.

  • This paper reports on the application of network analysis approaches to investigate the characteristics of graph representations of Japanese word associations. Two semantic networks are constructed from two separate Japanese word association databases. The basic statistical features of the networks indicate that they have scale-free and small-world properties and that they exhibit hierarchical organization. A graph clustering method is also applied to the networks with the objective of generating hierarchical structures within the semantic networks. The method is shown to be an efficient tool for analyzing large-scale structures within corpora. As a utilization of the network clustering results, we briefly introduce two web-based applications: the first is a search system that highlights various possible relations between words according to association type, while the second is to present the hierarchical architecture of a semantic network. The systems realize dynamic representations of network structures based on the relationships between words and concepts.

A Word Sense Disambiguation Method with a Semantic Network (의미네트워크를 이용한 단어의미의 모호성 해결방법)

  • In this paper, word sense disambiguation methods utilizing a knowledge base based on a semantic network are introduced. The basic idea is to keep track of a set of paths in the knowledge base which correspond to the inctemental semantic interpretation of a input sentence. These paths are called the semantic paths. when the parser reads a word, the senses of this word which are not involved in any of the semantic paths are removed. Then the removal operation is propagated through the knowledge base to invoke the removal of the senses of other words that have been read before. This removal operation is called recusively as long as senses can be removed. This is called the recursive word sense removal. Concretion of a vague word's concept is one of the important word sense disambiguation methods. We introduce a method called the path adjustment that extends the conctetion operation. How to use semantic association or syntactic processing in coorporation with the above methods is also considered.

The Method of the Evaluation of Verbal Lexical-Semantic Network Using the Automatic Word Clustering System (단어클러스터링 시스템을 이용한 어휘의미망의 활용평가 방안)

  • For the recent several years, there has been much interest in lexical semantic network. However, it seems to be very difficult to evaluate the effectiveness and correctness of it and invent the methods for applying it into various problem domains. In order to offer the fundamental ideas about how to evaluate and utilize lexical semantic networks, we developed two automatic word clustering systems, which are called system A and system B respectively. 68,455,856 words were used to learn both systems. We compared the clustering results of system A to those of system B which is extended by the lexical-semantic network. The system B is extended by reconstructing the feature vectors which are used the elements of the lexical-semantic network of 3,656 '-ha' verbs. The target data is the 'multilingual Word Net-CoreNet'.When we compared the accuracy of the system A and system B, we found that system B showed the accuracy of 46.6% which is better than that of system A, 45.3%.

Segmenting Chinese Texts into Words for Semantic Network Analysis

  • Unlike most languages, written Chinese has no spaces between words. Word segmentation must be performed before semantic network analysis can be conducted. This paper describes how to perform Chinese word segmentation using the Stanford Natural Language Processing group's Stanford Word Segmenter v. 3.8.0, released in June 2017.

The Extraction of Head words in Definition for Construction of a Semi-automatic Lexical-semantic Network of Verbs (동사 어휘의미망의 반자동 구축을 위한 사전정의문의 중심어 추출)

  • Recently, there has been a surge of interests concerning the construction and utilization of a Korean thesaurus. In this paper, a semi-automatic method for generating a lexical-semantic network of Korean '-ha' verbs is presented through an analysis of the lexical definitions of these verbs. Initially, through the use of several tools that can filter out and coordinate lexical data, pairs constituting a word and a definition were prepared for treatment in a subsequent step. While inspecting the various definitions of each verb, we extracted and coordinated the head words from the sentences that constitute the definition of each word. These words are thought to be the main conceptual words that represent the sense of the current verb. Using these head words and related information, this paper shows that the creation of a thesaurus could be achieved without any difficulty in a semi-automatic fashion.

A Semantic Representation Based-on Term Co-occurrence Network and Graph Kernel

  • This paper proposes a new semantic representation and its associated similarity measure. The representation expresses textual context observed in a context of a certain term as a network where nodes are terms and edges are the number of cooccurrences between connected terms. To compare terms represented in networks, a graph kernel is adopted as a similarity measure. The proposed representation has two notable merits compared with previous semantic representations. First, it can process polysemous words in a better way than a vector representation. A network of a polysemous term is regarded as a combination of sub-networks that represent senses and the appropriate sub-network is identified by context before compared by the kernel. Second, the representation permits not only words but also senses or contexts to be represented directly from corresponding set of terms. The validity of the representation and its similarity measure is evaluated with two tasks: synonym test and unsupervised word sense disambiguation. The method performed well and could compete with the state-of-the-art unsupervised methods.

Word Sense Distinction of Middle Verbs for Korean Verb Wordnet (한국어 동사의 어휘의미망 구축을 위한 중립동사의 의미분할)

  • This study aims to discuss the word sense distinction of Korean middle verbs for restructuring KorLexVerb 1.0. Despite the duality of its meaning and syntactic structure, the word senses of middle verb are not clearly distinguished in current dictionaries. The underspecification causes very often mismatches that a same Korean word sense is used for two different English verb senses. A close examination on the syntactic and semantic properties of middle verb shows us that the word sense distinction and the reconstruction of hierarchical structure are indispensable. Finally, by doing this fine grained word sense distinction, we propose an alternative way of classification and description of the verb polysemy for KorLexVerb 1.0 as well as for dictionary-like language resources.

  • The Sejong Electronic(machine readable) Dictionary, which was developed by the 21 century Sejong Plan, contains a systematic of immanence information of Korean words. It helps in solving the problem of electronical presentation of a general text dictionary commonly used. Word sense disambiguation problems can also be solved using the specific information available in the Sejong Electronic Dictionary. However, the Sejong Electronic Dictionary has a limitation of suggesting structure of sentences and selection-restricted nouns. In this paper, we discuss limitations of word sense disambiguation by using subcategorization information as suggested by the Sejong Electronic Dictionary and generalize selection-restricted noun of argument using Korean Lexico-semantic network.

Network Analysis between Uncertainty Words based on Word2Vec and WordNet (Word2Vec과 WordNet 기반 불확실성 단어 간의 네트워크 분석에 관한 연구)

  • Uncertainty in scientific knowledge means an uncertain state where propositions are neither true or false at present. The existing studies have analyzed the propositions written in the academic literature, and have conducted the performance evaluation based on the rule based and machine learning based approaches by using the corpus. Although they recognized that the importance of word construction, there are insufficient attempts to expand the word by analyzing the meaning of uncertainty words. On the other hand, studies for analyzing the structure of networks by using bibliometrics and text mining techniques are widely used as methods for understanding intellectual structure and relationship in various disciplines. Therefore, in this study, semantic relations were analyzed by applying Word2Vec to existing uncertainty words. In addition, WordNet, which is an English vocabulary database and thesaurus, was applied to perform a network analysis based on hypernyms, hyponyms, and synonyms relations linked to uncertainty words. The semantic and lexical relationships of uncertainty words were structurally identified. As a result, we identified the possibility of automatically expanding uncertainty words.
