  • The semantic information provided through the semantic-based IoT system will produce new high value-added products that are completely different from what we have known and experienced. From this point of view, the key issue of current IoT technology and applications is the development of an intelligent IoT platform architecture. The proposed system collects the IoT data of the sensors from the cloud computer, converts them into RDF, and annotates them with semantics. The converted semantic data is shared and utilized through the ontology repository. We use KT's IoTMakers as a cloud computing environment, and the ontology repository uses Jena's Fuseki server to express SPARQL query results on the web using Daum Map API and Highcharts API. This gives people the opportunity to access the semantic IoT mash-up service easily and has various application possibilities.

  • Since the study of deep convolutional neural network became prevalent, one of the important discoveries is that a feature map from a convolutional network can be extracted before going into the fully connected layer and can be used as a saliency map for object detection. Furthermore, the model can use features from each different layer for accurate object detection: the features from different layers can have different properties. As the model goes deeper, it has many latent skip connections and feature maps to elaborate object detection. Although there are many intermediate layers that we can use for semantic segmentation through skip connection, still the characteristics of each skip connection and the best skip connection for this task are uncertain. Therefore, in this study, we exhaustively research skip connections of state-of-the-art deep convolutional networks and investigate the characteristics of the features from each intermediate layer. In addition, this study would suggest how to use a recent deep neural network model for semantic segmentation and it would therefore become a cornerstone for later studies with the state-of-the-art network models.

  • In this paper, we proposed a DeepLabv3+ based encoder-decoder model utilizing an attention mechanism for precise semantic segmentation. The DeepLabv3+ is a semantic segmentation method based on deep learning and is mainly used in applications such as autonomous vehicles, and infrared image analysis. In the conventional DeepLabv3+, there is little use of the encoder's intermediate feature map in the decoder part, resulting in loss in restoration process. Such restoration loss causes a problem of reducing segmentation accuracy. Therefore, the proposed method firstly minimized the restoration loss by additionally using one intermediate feature map. Furthermore, we fused hierarchically from small feature map in order to effectively utilize this. Finally, we applied an attention mechanism to the decoder to maximize the decoder's ability to converge intermediate feature maps. We evaluated the proposed method on the Cityscapes dataset, which is commonly used for street scene image segmentation research. Experiment results showed that our proposed method improved segmentation results compared to the conventional DeepLabv3+. The proposed method can be used in applications that require high accuracy.

  • The purpose of this study is to describe major concepts related to W3C OWL and ISO Topic Maps and to provide the result of comparison and analysis regarding semantic expression power between two ontology languages. This paper is comprised of the following parts: 1) describing URI and namespace concepts that are fundamental building block of effective ontology construction; 2) offering detailed explanation of major Topic Map concepts such as topics, associations, and occurrences; 3) providing how to accomplish the second purpose of cataloging(grouping related items when displaying the search result) using Topic Map; and 4) finally explaining the difference between two ontology languages in terms of semantic expression power.

  • This paper presents a new method to estimate the pose of a moving object accurately using a monocular camera and a low-end GPS+IMU sensor system. For this goal, we adopted a deep neural network for the semantic segmentation of input images and compared the results with a semantic map of a neighborhood. In this map matching, we use weight tables to deal with label inconsistency effectively. Signals from a low-end GPS+IMU sensor system are used to limit search spaces and minimize the proposed function. For the evaluation, we added noise to the signals from a high-end GPS-IMU system. The results show that the pose can be recovered from the noisy signals. We also show that the proposed method is effective in handling non-open-sky situations.

  • This paper suggests a method to refine a massive collective intelligence data, and visualize with multilevel sentiment network, in order to understand information in an intuitive and semantic way. For this study, we first calculated a frequency of sentiment words from each movie review. Second, we designed a Heatmap visualization to effectively discover the main emotions on each online movie review. Third, we formed a Sentiment-Movie Network combining the MDS Map and Social Network in order to fix the movie network topology, while creating a network graph to enable the clustering of similar nodes. Finally, we evaluated our progress to verify if it is actually helpful to improve user cognition for multilevel analysis experience compared to the existing network system, thus concluded that our method provides improved user experience in terms of cognition, being appropriate as an alternative method for semantic understanding.

  • This study develops an effective method for sentiment analysis of user-generated content on drug review websites, which has not been investigated extensively compared to other general domains, such as product reviews. A clause-level sentiment analysis algorithm is developed since each sentence can contain multiple clauses discussing multiple aspects of a drug. The method adopts a pure linguistic approach of computing the sentiment orientation (positive, negative, or neutral) of a clause from the prior sentiment scores assigned to words, taking into consideration the grammatical relations and semantic annotation (such as disorder terms) of words in the clause. Experiment results with 2,700 clauses show the effectiveness of the proposed approach, and it performed significantly better than the baseline approaches using a machine learning approach. Various challenging issues were identified and discussed through error analysis. The application of the proposed sentiment analysis approach will be useful not only for patients, but also for drug makers and clinicians to obtain valuable summaries of public opinion. Since sentiment analysis is domain specific, domain knowledge in drug reviews is incorporated into the sentiment analysis algorithm to provide more accurate analysis. In particular, MetaMap is used to map various health and medical terms (such as disease and drug names) to semantic types in the Unified Medical Language System (UMLS) Semantic Network.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel method for estimating a vehicle's current position, even on roads that have similar patterns. In the proposed method, we classified the semantic information of the nodes in detail and added the semantic information of the link to solve the problem due to similar and repeated patterns. We also improved the mapping method by comparing the result of the duplicated matching with that of the only matching obtained just before corresponding duplicated matching. From the simulation results, we verify that the performance of the proposed method is better than that of the existing method.

  • The Semantic Web introduces the next generation of the Web by establishing a semantic layer of machine-understandable data to enable machines (i.e intelligent agents) retrieve more relevant information and execute automated web services using semantic information. Ontology-related technologies are very important to evolve the World Wide Web of today into the Semantic Web in representation and share of semantic data. In this paper, we proposed and implemented the efficient ontology management system, K-Box, which constructs and manages ontologies using topic maps. We can use K-Box system to construct, store and retrieve ontologies. K-Box system has several components: Topicmap Factory, Topicmap Provider, Topicmap Query Processor, Topicmap Object Wrapper, Topicmap Cache Manager, Topicmap Storage Wrapper.
