The purpose of this study was to identify the factors which explain consumer's information search behavior. Data were analyzed by utilizing factor analysis and multiple-regression to investigate the relationship among information sources, benefit, and actual and ideal self- image and demographics. Based on the results, information sources for benefit, actual and ideal self-image were developed. Predictors of information sources, benefits, and self-image were identified. Marketing implication about information sources were discussed. The results were as follows. 1. Actual and ideal self-images and information sources were devised into three factors. And benefits were devised into five factors. 2. Actual self-image has more predicting power than ideal self-image to the benefits which consumer sought. Among five benefits, character pursuit was the best predicted factor according to the self-image. 3. Among three information sources, mass communication was the most effective source which can be explained by the benefit and self-image. Fashion pursuit factor was the most significant factor to the mass communication oriented source.
The purposes of this study were (1) to segment the men in twenties and thirties according to apparel shopping orientation and (2) to create a profile for each group with regard to importance of store attributes, self-image and demographic variables. The questionnaire was administered to men in twenties and thirties living in Seoul and data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, factor analysis, cluster analysis, χ²-test, and one-way ANOVA. The results were as follows : 1) By cluster analysis of apparel shopping orientation factors, three groups were identified : (1) ostentatious shopper(44.5%), (2) practical shopper(21.8%), and (3) individuality-pursuit shopper(33.7%). 2) Three groups were compared on store attributes and self-image. Significant differences were found among the three groups on two variables. Ostentatious shoppers pursued the masculine and sophisticated image and tended to prefer the store image and reputation, convenient transportation and parking place, and variety of products. Practical shoppers pursued the self-image which reflected the conservative and not-noticeable image and considered the moderate price of the products most importantly. Finally, individuality-pursuit shoppers preferred the sexy and noticeable image and considered the display and accommodation of the trendy products. 3) In terms of the demographic variables the significant differences were found on education, occupation, monthly income, and marital status. In general ostentatious shoppers tended to earn higher monthly income than those of the two groups. Practical shoppers tended to be well-educated and individuality-pursuit shoppers tended not to be married.

This study verified the effect of self-image pursuits by female consumers for clothing purchase values and fashion images as well as the role of age regulations as a measurement invariance. We surveyed 717 women aged 20-60 residing in Seoul, Gyeonggi province and Incheon city. The survey showed that pursuit affects clothing purchase values, which subsequently affect fashion images. However, expressive value was not shown to affect urban style fashion images for clothing purchase values. Age (one of main parameters for market segmentation) was also shown not regulate the effect of self-image pursuits on clothing purchase values and fashion images. The results of this study can provide fundamental data to establish fashion image-based marketing to help predict consumer's purchase behavior and suggest practical advice for effective marketing strategies by applying marketing based on differentiated fashion images to fashion marketing programs.

The object of this study was to find out the influence of female consumers' cosmetics purchase experience on image-making efficacy and cosmetics pursuit benefits. Total 405 surveys of women working at the industrial complex in Daegu-Kyoungbuk area were used for data analysis. Frequency, factor analysis, reliability analysis, regression analysis, and ${\chi}^2$-test were used for data analysis. Our findings are as follows. Cosmetics purchase experience of female consumers had factors as recognition experience, relationship experience, emotional experience, visit experience, and sensual experience. The factors of image-making efficacy were self-confidence in displaying, ability of facial expression and display ability while those of cosmetics purchase experience turned out to be trend/brand pursuit, appearance improvement pursuit, functionality pursuit and economic feasibility pursuit. Cosmetics purchase experience was found to have significant effects on the factors of image-making efficacy, and cosmetics purchase experience on factors of cosmetics pursuit benefits. The differences by ages variable was examined with relation to the level of make-up and how they chose products when buying.
The purposes of this study were to investigate the images on the alpha numeric brand name of fashion products, to identify the influences of clothing pursuit benefit on the brand name image and to determine the significant images on the attitude and purchasing intention. The data were collected via a self-administered questionnaire from 270 male and female students of undergraduate school in Kyongnam province during the March, 2004. Using SPSS 12.0 package, Cronbach's a, frequency analysis, factor analysis, and multiple regression analysis were performed. The results could be summarized as follows: First, the image dimensions of alpha-numeric brand name were composed of natural, new, active, urban, impactive and interesting image. Clothing pursuit benefits were composed of the brand value, attractiveness, fashion, individuality and economic value pursuit, Second, Clothing pursuit benefits had an significant effect on the image preference of alpha-numeric brand name. Especially, individuality pursuit and attractiveness pursuit have influenced on the natural, new, active, urban images. Third, the new, active, impactive, natural images had significant effects on the attitude, purchasing intention and conformity of products.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the grandparents' clothing image perceived by adolescents. Self-administered questionnaires were distributed and collected from 547 middle school and high school students from March to April in 2000. Frequencies, percentages, mean. and standard deviation were calculated. χ²-test, t-test, F-test, and ANOVA were used for group differences, and Duncan's multiple range test was used. The results were as follows : 1. Grandparents' clothing images were classified into four images of elegant, comfortable, fashionable and active. 2. Adolescents in middle school, in high economic status, in higher academic achievement, and who pursuited fashion perceived favorable grandparents' clothing images as more favorable. Adolescents perceived clothing images of younger grandparents with higher economic status, or grandmother as more favorable. Adolescents who had a good affection and a good-cognition to their grandparents perceived their clothing images as more favorable. Adolescents perceived their mother-side-grandparents clothing images as more favorable. 3. Grandparents were segmented into 3 groups of the fashion pursuit, the utility pursuit, and the stagnated according to their adolescents' clothing image perception. The adolescents in higher economic status, who pursuited fashion, and had a favorable cognition to their grandparents tended to perceive their grandparents as the fashion pursuit. Adolescents who had a high affection to their grandparents tended to Perceive their grandparents as the utility pursuit. Adolescents perceived their mother side grandparents as the utility pursuit.
The purpose of the present study was to investigate images pursued and purchase behaviors for clothing as determined by self-image. Data were collected through a self-administered questionnaire survey from March 3 to March 11, 2003 from 600 female students attending universities in Seoul; 514 were used for the data analysis. Data were analyzed by chi-square analysis, t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis, tics, cluster analysis and Duncan's multiple range test. Self image was defined six factors: social image, gay image, intellectual image, girlish image, iron nerves image, image like a man and was classified three group avail of six factor: commonness type, social brilliance type, immature boldness type. The results showed significant differences in images of actual clothing worn by self and in the clothing image pursued among the groups determined by the self image. Significant differences were also found in clothing purchase behaviors such as monthly clothing expenditure, shopping frequency, store types, and the clothing items often used for expressing self-image among the groups divided by self-image.
The college students selected by random sampling were classified into several groups by their impulse buying pattern and the psychological characteristics that cause them. Their life styles, fashion leadership, self-confidence and self-image in clothing were the subjects of comparative analysis. The results of this research can be summarized as follows. 1. The college women students could be classified into several groups by their impulse buying orientations. 2. The student life styles were different by their shopping orientations. The high shopping involved shopping type and the leisure pursuit shopping type attached great importance to material life and modern life style. The economic shopping type took the intellectual self-image seriously, and the low shopping involved type thought much of the traditional life style. 3. The high shopping involved type and the leisure pursuit shopping type were more impulse buying oriented. They showed the tendencies to the fashion innovativeness and fashion opinion leadership. But the economic shopping involved shopping type and low shopping involved shopping type showed quite different tendencies. The high shopping involved shopping type and low shopping involved shopping type were contrast in their self-confidence in shopping. The former showed the highest self-confidence and the latter showed the lowest self-confidence. 4. The high shopping involved shopping type were more extroversive, dominant, sensitive and pioneering. These psychological characteristics were supposed to contribute to their impulse buying. 5. The high shopping involved shopping type and the leisure pursuit shopping type perceived themselves as more sophisticated, modern, creative and sociable. They thought they had diverse life styles. These two groups were more impulse buying oriented, and their self-images were different from economic shopping type and low shopping involved shopping type.
This study investigated the integrated effects of family, school, internet, and mass culture factors on the identity formation of adolescents. Specifically, the purposes of this study were to categorize adolescents into groups by what they do during the time except the life in school and to investigate differences among the groups regarding the identity information(body image, self-esteem, self-identity) and the influences of environmental factors on identity formation of adolescent. The study distributed questionnaires to middle and high school adolescents of five representative cities in South Korea. The total respondents were 2240(960 from Seoul/Kyongki, and 320 each from Taegu, Pusan, Kwangju, and Taejon). The response rate was 98.7%. The data were analyzed by factor analysis, cluster analysis, ANOVA, Duncan test, and multiple regression. The results showed that Korean adolescents were segmented into five groups : TV preference group, computer preference group, friends and family involvement group, homework and study preference group, and study institute involvement group). The five groups were significantly different in regard to body image pursuit, self-esteem, and self-identity. The body image pursuit, self-esteem, and self-identity of adolescents were significantly different in regard to each environmental factors, in each adolescent group.
The purpose of the study was to identify the motives of women's appearance-management behavior, and examine how women perceived the appearance -management behavior and pursuit of ideal body image. The depth interview method was managed to five female subjects who had experiences in plastic surgery and obesity treatment. The instance analysis used in this study. The results were as follows : There were four types of women's appearance-management behavior. First, women perceived themselves by using other people's evaluation, and it was the first motive of appearance-management behavior. It shows that appearance is not based on the real self-image but is the evaluated self-image by others. Second, women were willing to suffer the pain in the plastic surgery and obesity treatment by the expectation of appearance improvement. It means the result of reducing the difference between the actual self-figure and the ideal self-image. Third, the sexual discrimination culture had an influence on appearance-management behavior. It seems the sense of male superiority spreaded over the Korean society. Lastly, women improved self-satisfaction and self-esteem through their physical appearance as an alternative method for better life.
