The purpose of this study is to explore improving ways of screening of self-directed learning in self-governing high schools for expanding self-initiated learning screening system. To achieve the above aim, it was used survey method to 99 admission teachers of 12 self-governing high schools and analyzed responses with SPSS program. The research findings are as follows. To expand self-initiated learning screening system in self-governing high schools, it needs to obtain admission members of entrance committee, pooling of external screening members, quick decision of school admission members, increasing payment, training and understanding of the system and consideration of admission documents and study plan. Some improving ways of the expanding of self-initiated learning screening may be listed as follows: 1) development of screening model for self-governing schools 2) policy consideration for self-governing public high school 3) expanding autonomy of school 4) supporting budget 5) sharing of operation case and reinforcement of public relations.
The aim of this study is to provide the fundamental information on satisfaction for school food service and dietary habits of middle school students in Sejong Special Self-Governing City. Generally, the subjects had a high satisfaction level for school food service. The boys had comparatively more satisfactory days for school food service than the girls. The most dissatisfactory factors of school food service were the taste and variety of menu for the girls, and the time and place for lunch and the service of employee for the boys. The intersexual differences existed with a significant difference in the irregular intake of meals, the reasons to skip meals, and the eating speed. For the boys, the main reason to skip meals was due to lack of appetite, and for the girls, it was the weight-control. The boys finished each meal within 5~10 min and ate more than the amount the girls eat in general. The main components of breakfast for the subjects were a cooked rice, soup, and side dish in 65.9%, and the frequency of skipping breakfast was high with 32.8%, which was once per week. The favorite snacks for the middle school students were cookies and beverages in 29.4%, instant foods in 24.3%, and hamburger and pizza in 21.4%. The intake frequency of snacks was once or twice per week in 46.5% of the subjects. In addition, the subjects had a very high intake frequency of fastfoods with once or twice per week in 72.7%, and the most favorite fastfood was ramen in 57.7%. The subjects in 45.3% took dairy food every day. In conclusion, the middle school students need nutrition education to improve their eating habit and to increase the frequency of breakfast.
This study aims to understand the phenomenon related to private schools and present the implication for policy about private school, network text analysis about newspaper editorials in conservative and progressive media was conducted. The main results are as follows. First, in newspaper editorials, there were many issues about private university and there was a distinction between private elementary secondary school and private university. Second, in newspaper editorials, 'encouraging perspective' such as financial assistance and new private school like self-governing private high school and 'controlling perspective' such as withdrawal of problem private schools were both appeared. As a result, this study presents that the perspective for private schools needs to be re-established by 'accountability' as the educational institution and 'school capacity building' away from the past frame.
In order to improve the effectiveness of carbon neutrality in Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, this study identifies the current state of social environmental education through literature research, excluding school environmental education being implemented in elementary, middle, and high schools in the province, and identifies shortcomings or problems. The purpose is to establish a plan to systematically and integratedly operate social environmental education, and the derived plan can be used as a guide to change environmental awareness and induce eco-friendly behavior to improve the effectiveness of carbon neutrality. As a result of the study, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province established a consultative body with environmental education institutions, organizations and expert groups operating dispersed throughout the province through the substantial operation and support of the environmental education center currently being entrusted, to identify the current status and develop content necessary for establishing environmental education policies, establishing a platform to enable information sharing, role division, regular communication, empathy, and policy feedback, and on-site environmental education centered on the field to stimulate emotions and personalize environmental problems so that environmental problems can be properly recognized. The present study addresses the flow characteristics involved in the self-induced oscillations of the underexpanded jet impinging upon a cylindrical body. Both experiment and computational analysis are carried out to elucidate the shock motions of the self-induced oscillations and to find the associated major flow factors. The underexpanded sonic jet is made from a nozzle and a cylindrical body is placed downstream to simulate the impinging jet upon an obstacle. The computational analysis using TVD scheme is applied to solve the axisymmetric, unsteady, inviscid governing equations. A Schlieren system is employed to visualize the self-induced oscillations generated in flow field. The data of the shock motions are obtained from a high-speed video system. The detailed characteristics of the Mach disk oscillations and the resulting pressure variations are expatiated using the time dependent data of the Mach disk positions. The mechanisms of the self-induced oscillations are discussed in details based upon the experimental and computational results.
Today, apartment houses account for a very high proportion of the types of residence. This study aims to present basic data for preparing a reasonable distribution plan by identifying factors considered in calculating the amount of collection of management fees. After reviewing previous studies on common management fees and long-term repair allowances, various data on apartment houses subject to mandatory management in Busan in 2020 were collected from the Apartment Management Information System to analyze the differences in influencing factors according to type of apartment management(self-governing management, consignment management). As a result of statistical analysis, the number of households and many construction elapsed periods had a negative(-) effect on long-term repair allowances, and many construction elapsed periods had a negative(-) effect on common management fees. In addition, the degree to which many construction elapsed periods had a negative(-) effect on long-term repair allowances and common management fees had less impact on consignment management than on self-governing management. And the long-term repair allowances were imposed less by consignment management, common management fees were charged less by self-governing management. The results of this study will serve as basic data for rational distribution of long-term repair allowances and common management fees to residents and managers of apartment houses subject to mandatory management in Busan.
Background: The tuberculin skin test (TST) has limitations in diagnosing a latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI). The interferon-gamma release assay (IGRA) was introduced to middle- and high-school students since 2009 by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The aim was to evaluate the utility of IGRA in diagnosing LTBI in middle- and high-school students. Methods: From August 2007 to July 2009, among suspected LTBI students showing TST induration with a 10 mm diameter and over with a normal chest x-ray in school students of Jeju city, 341 students underwent a Quanti FERON-TB Gold In-Tube (QFT-IT) test to confirm LTBI. Results: From 348 students showing a positive TST, a QFT-IT test was carried out on 341 students. The positive QFT-IT rate was 52.8% (=180/341). The positive QFT-IT rate was higher in high-school boys with a 15~19 mm diameter of induration in TST. Conclusion: With the introduction of IGRA for diagnosing LTBI in middle- and high-school students, approximately 47% of students who show a TST induration with a 10 mm diameter and over can avoid taking unnecessary preventive chemotherapy. These results suggest that IGRA is useful for diagnosing and controlling LTBI in Korean students.

Although women's economic participation has been increasing in Korea, the utilization of educated women's labor is still low. Therefore, vocational training programs for women are both important and necessary. This study examines the vocational training programs for women offered by the three largest vocational training centers in Jeju: the Woman Resources Development Center, the Jeju Women's Development Center, and the Seogwipo City Women's Cultural Center. This study also analyzes the students' satisfaction with these vocational training programs and identifies the related variables that cause differences in their levels of satisfaction. The sample includes 397 respondents who were surveyed from June 23 to September 12, 2008. Moreover, the data are analyzed by conducting a one-way ANOVA, t-test, and Duncan's Multiple Range(DMR)test. The major results of the study are as follows. First, the vocational training programs in Jeju consist of lectures that cover various subjects. The programs mainly focus on work that offers relatively low wages and requires few skills, and the duration of the programs is short. Second, the original goal of the programs does not meet the needs of women who are seeking employment. The participants respond that they want more appropriate programs that are designed by considering their need for employment, support them in finding a job, and re-educate them. Third, most of the participants are satisfied with their vocational training experiences, and their satisfaction with the instructors is especially high. The differences in their levels of satisfaction are caused by economic characteristics such as the location of the student's residence, home ownership, and the level of life. The results of this study suggest that there is a need to separate vocational/employment training from general education for women. Moreover, the vocational training programs for women should be more specialized according to the different needs of each group.
Restricted by time and space, formal environmental education has a limit in accommodating fast changing socal phenomena and quickly spreading environmental problems. Therefore, to carry out more efficiently the environmental education for middle and high school students, this study is intended to search for a way to establish a network of formal and nonformal environmental education. More than 80% of civil environmental organizations replied they agree to establish a network of environmental education. As for the establishment of a network, they preferred the establishment in which middle and high school, civil environmental organizations, government, the environment-related departments of the universities. They preferred ‘civil environmental organizations’ for the operator, ‘local municipal or provincial level for the scale, ‘direct personal relations’ for the interchange method. To establish a network, they replied that ‘funding’, ‘specialists in environmental education’, ‘staff to proceed educations’, ‘reform of law and systems’ are required. They also preferred ‘funding from government budget’ for a way to fund a network. We can draw the following conclusions from the survey, We need a training program for environmental education staff not to make those educational programs by civil environmental organizations temporary Also, more studies should be done to establish more organized network of environmental education and nonformal environmental education by civil environmental organizations. Environmental problem varies depending on the local characteristics, and thus environmental education should be carried out locally at the network center for environmental education. Besides, local self-governing bodies should support it administratively and financially.
To understand the characteristics of vanadium leaching from soils formed by the weathering of basalts, paleo soil at Gosan, Jeju Island, Korea, and several present-day soils from neighboring areas were collected. Leaching experiments were carried out by two approaches: 1) batch experiments under various geochemical conditions (redox potential (Eh) and pH) and 2) continuous leaching experiments under conditions similar to those of natural environments. From the batch experiments, leached vanadium concentrations were highest under alkaline (NaOH) conditions, with a maximum value of $2,870{\mu}g/L$, and were meaningful (maximum value, $114{\mu}g/L$) under oxidizing ($H_2O_2$) conditions, whereas concentrations under other conditions (acidic-HCl, $neutral-NaHCO_3$, and $reducing-Na_2S_2O_3$) were negligible. This indicated that the geochemical conditions, in which soil-water reactions occurred to form groundwater with high vanadium concentrations, were under alkaline-oxidizing conditions. From the continuous leaching experiments, the pH and leached vanadium concentrations of the solution were in the ranges of 5.45~5.58 and $6{\sim}9{\mu}g/L$, respectively, under $CO_2$ supersaturation conditions for the first 15 days, whereas values under $O_2$ aeration conditions after the next 15 days increased to 8.48~8.62 and $9.7{\sim}12.2{\mu}g/L$, respectively. Vanadium concentrations from the latter continuous leaching experiments were similar to the average concentration of groundwater in Jeju Island ($11.2{\mu}g/L$). Furthermore leached vanadium concentrations in continuous leaching experiments were highly correlated with pH and Al, Cr, Fe, Mn and Zn concentrations. The results of this study showed that 1) alkaline-oxidizing conditions of water-rock (soil) interactions were essential to form vanadium-rich groundwater and 2) volcanic soils can be a potential source of vanadium in Jeju Island groundwater.
