  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the degrees of and relationships between self-leadership, stress of clinical practice and self-disclosure in a group of college female students. Methods: Data were collected from 258 participants with self-report questionnaires in August, 2011. Results: There were significant differences in the level of 'self-leadership' depending on 'interpersonal relationships', 'application motivation', 'satisfaction with nursing as a major' and 'satisfaction in clinical practice'. And also there was significant difference in the level of 'self-disclosure' depending on 'interpersonal relationships'. But there was no significant difference in the level of 'stress of clinical practice' depending on general characteristics of participants. There were significant correlations between 'self-leadership' and self-disclosure, 'stress of clinical practice' and 'self-disclosure'. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that it is needed to develop diverse programs that can reduce the stress of clinical practice by strengthening the capacity of self-leadership and self-disclosure.

간호대학생의 자기표출과 임상수행능력간의 관계 (The Relationship Between Self-Disclosure and Clinical Competency in Nursing Students)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the level of self-disclosure and clinical competency and the relationships between self-disclosure and clinical competency in nursing students. The subjects were consisted of 662 nursing students from six universities and five junior colleges. The data were collected conveniently by self reporting questionnaires given to the students from September 13 to October 23, 1999. The instruments for this study were JSDQ and clinical competency measurement tool. The data were analyzed by SAS/PC program using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient. The results of this study are as follows : 1. The mean score for the level of self- disclosure was 3.29$\pm$0.98. 2. The mean score for the level of clinical competency was 3.93$\pm$1.00. The mean score for the dimension of skills, professional attitudes, teaching and coordinating, nursing process, interpersonal relationships were 4.09$\pm$0.77, 4.08$\pm$0.82, 3.97$\pm$ 0.90, 3.77$\pm$0.76 and 3.37$\pm$0.75 respectively. 3. The statistically significant difference in the score of the self-disclosure according to the educational background (F=9.42, p<.01), grade (F=5.59, p<.01), religion (F=2.68, p<.05), satisfaction of nursing major (F=14.20, p<.0001), and satisfaction of nursing practice (F=5.42, p<.01) was obtained. 4. The statistically significant difference in the score of the clinical competency according to the grade (F=32.44, p<.0001), achieved performance records (F=3.52, p<.05), satisfaction of nursing major (F=12.06, p<.0001), satisfaction of nursing practice (F=27.35, p<.0001) was obtained. 5. The data shows the positive correlations between self-disclosure and skill (r=.3231, p<.0001), between self- disclosure and teaching/coordinating (r=.1912, p<.0001), between self-disclosure and interpersonal relationship (r=.3064, p<.0001), between self-disclosure and professional attitude (r=.2789, p<.0001), between self-disclosure and nursing process (r=.2766, p<.0001).

자기개방과 부부적응에 관한 상관연구 (A Study on the Relationship between Self-Disclosure and Marital Adjustment)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the relations between spouse's self-disclosure and marital adjustment. A measurement tools used for this study are self-disclosure scale, which was adapted and reproducted from Jourard's Self-Disclosure! Questionnaire(JSDQ), and marital adjustment scale, which was modified and supplemented form Dyadic Adjustment Scale (D.A.S). developed by Spanier. The subjects were 154 married couples dwelling in Seoul and questionnaires are recorded separately by both spouses. Statistical methods such as frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, one way ANOVA and pearson correlation were used for data analysis. The results of this study are as follows; 1) For husband, self-disclosure degree was significant difference according to level of education. That is, the more husband was higher level of education, the more husband tended to disclose to wife. 2) Among the variables to have influence on the marital adjustment, level of education and marriage pattern had influence on wive's martial adjustment and family income and marriage pattern had influence on husbands' marital adjustment. 3) Wives were higher disclosed than husbands and wives were more disclosed than perceived husbands' disclosure. 4) There were positive correlation between the self-disclosure of husbands and the marital adjustment of wives. (r+.3872, p<.005) And there were positive correlation between the self-disclosure of wives and the marital adjustment of husbands. (r=.4997, p<.005) 5) For wives, the perception of husbands' disclosure correlates with wives' marital adjustment. (r=.4592, p<.005) For husbands, the perception of wives' disclosure correlates with husbands' marital adjustment.(r=.5610, p<.005) From this results, full and honest self-disclosure is needed for high marital adjustment of a married couple. In the future, a study on the relationship between self-disclosure and marital adjustment is need to various measure of many subject.

Self-Disclosures on Facebook: The Two Faces of Narcissism

  • Individual personality traits are key factors that affect users' self-disclosure on SNS. We examined the relationship between an individual personality trait (i.e., narcissism) and three dimensions of self-disclosure behavior on Facebook (i.e., intention, level, and control of self-disclosure). A total of 261 Facebook users completed an online survey. The findings showed that more narcissistic individuals engage in deeper levels of self-disclosure and do so with greater intentionality than previous research indicated. More interestingly, narcissistic users simultaneously tend to control their expressions in public by concealing who they really are. Overall, these findings suggested that the self-disclosures on Facebook must not investigated by a single dimensions for better understanding of psychological dynamics of it users. In addition, the present research suggested that the narcissism should not be regarded as a predictor which simply gives either a positive or negative influence on self-disclosing behaviors in SNS.

The Effects of Chatbot Anthropomorphism and Self-disclosure on Mobile Fashion Consumers' Intention to Use Chatbot Services

  • This study investigated the effects of the chatbot's level of anthropomorphism - closeness to the human form - and its self-disclosure - delivery of emotional exchange with the chatbot through its facial expressions and chatting message on the user's intention to accept the service. A 2 (anthropomorphism: High vs. Low) × 2 (self-disclosure through facial expressions: High vs. Low) × 2 (self-disclosure through conversation: High vs. Low) between-subject factorial design was employed for this study. An online survey was conducted and a total of 234 questionnaires were used in the analysis. The results showed that consumers used chatbot service more when emotions were disclosed through facial expressions, than when it disclosed fewer facial expressions. There was statistically significant interaction effect, indicating the relationship between chatbot's self-disclosure through facial expression and the consumers' intention to use chatbot service differs depending on the extent of anthropomorphism. In the case of "robot chatbots" with low anthropomorphism levels, there was no difference in intention to use chatbot service depending on the level of self-disclosure through facial expression. When the "human-like chatbot" with high anthropomorphism levels discloses itself more through facial expressions, consumer's intention to use the chatbot service increased much more than when the human-like chatbot disclosed fewer facial expressions. The findings suggest that chatbots' self-disclosure plays an important role in the formation of consumer perception.

Relationships Among User Group, Gender and Self-disclosure in Social Media

  • In recent years the privacy issue on social media is often being discussed. The purpose of this study is to explore the relationships among user gender, user group according to user activity level (highly active vs less active) and self-disclosure in social media. We collected a total of 180 million tweets issued by 13 million twitter users for 12 months and investigated attributes of tweet (user's profile, profile image, description, geographic information, URL) which are related to self-disclosure and boundary impermeability. The results show there are significant (p<0.001) interactions between user gender, user group and each attribute of tweet that are related to self-disclosure and show that the patterns of self-disclosure are different across attributes. The results also show that the mean self-disclosure scores and boundary impermeability of top 10% highly active users are significantly higher than other less active users for all genders.

고등학생의 자기애, 정서적 자기개방이 우울과 행복감에 미치는 영향 (The Influences of Narcissism and Emotional Self-Disclosure on the Depression and Happiness Levels of High School Students)

  • This study investigates the influences of narcissism and emotional self-disclosure on depression and happiness levels of high school students. The participants comprised of 334 high school 1st-graders. The results indicated that: (1) Girls showed higher levels of both narcissism and emotional self-disclosure than boys, but there was no gender difference evident in the levels of depression and happiness. (2) The more the students felt depressed, the less they experienced happiness. Additionally, the more the students disclosed emotionally about themselves, the less they experienced depression. (3) High levels of narcissism and low levels of emotional self-disclosure increased depression, but the interactional effect between narcissism and emotional self-disclosure on depression was not statistically significant for either gender. Moreover, low levels of narcissism and high levels of emotional self-disclosure tended to see increased levels of happiness for both genders, however the interactional effect between narcissism and emotional self-disclosure on happiness was statistically significant only for boys. That is, for boys, the negative effects of narcissism on happiness can be reduced if the level of emotional self-disclosure is high.

  • The college students were faced with not just technical challenges that require skill acquisition but adaptive challenges that require transforming one's mindset to a more complex way of making meaning. The purpose of this study was confirmed the relations among the help-seeking behavior, self-disclosure and self-concealment of 343 female college students'. As a result of data analysis, positive help seeking attitude was higher when the level of self-concealment was lower and self-disclosure, but regarding help-seeking intention, consultation intention was shown to be higher in the case of lower self-disclosure and higher self-concealment. Therefore, female college students need to visit college consultation centers more often while attending college and it needs to provide those students with mediation so that they can use mental health consultation services easily.

  • Nowadays, personal media is a new tool for communication as digital cameras and mobile phones are developing rapidly. We are concerned over Cyworld users who could have different personal characteristics which will influence on buying patterns in on line shopping behaviors. The purpose of this research was to observe fashion attitudes and purchase behavior of Cyworld mini homepage users, for establishing marketing strategies by understanding consumers. For this study, one line survey was used for 500 male and female subjects who are 20 to 40 years old. Only reliable 441 questionnaires were used for analysis. The SPSS program was used for frequency, K-means cluster, t test, and chi-square test. A total of 441 respondents were clustered on the basis of 8 item self-disclosure scale, using the K-means procedures. The results indicated that respondents were clustered into two segments; 267 respondents(active attitude towards self-disclosure) and 164 ones(not active). We examined fashion attitudes in mini home page and buying behavior by self-disclosed variable. Those who are involved actively in self expression and self-disclosure considered more fashion style and trend. The major motivates of web surfing was finding a good design, and good price. High self-disclosure group tends to search many shopping mall for right design and low self disclosure group tends to search them for the right price. High self-disclosure group tend to shop the fashion products more, while low self disclosure group tend to purchase books more through the internet. We realized that active group in self-disclosure purchased their clothing accidently when they visit Cyworld.

  • Purpose - Recently, Mobile technologies and devices including smart phones and tablets have increased the possibility of communicating with other people and sharing personal information without time and space restriction. In order to realize the market potential related to mobile technologies, a large number of internet services have been incorporated into mobile platforms. Especially, The number of MIM(Mobile Instant Messenger) users has been increasing dramatically and services using MIM platform also have diversified. In spite of drastic growth in markets related to MIM, there is little empirical research on MIM and users' behaviors. This study designed to examine the structural relationships among belongingness, loneliness, self-disclosure intention, system quality, and self-disclosure behavior in context of MIM. Research design, data, and methodology - Three hypotheses were about the relationship among belongingness, loneliness and self-disclosure intention. The other two hypotheses were about the moderating effect of system quality in the causal relationship between self-disclosure intention and self-disclosure behavior. The data was analyzed by structural equation modeling. Research data were obtained from 330 undergraduate students who were KakaoTalk users and total 314 valid questionnaires were used in the final analysis. Results - The results from this study are as follow. First, the belongingness and the loneliness had a significant impact on self-disclosure intention in MIM. Second, the self-disclosure intention in MIM also had a positive impact on the self-disclosure behavior. Lastly, there is a moderating effect of the system quality in the relationship between the self-disclosure intention and self-disclosure behavior in MIM. Specifically, the higher system quality level was perceived, the positive effect of the self-disclosure intention in MIM on the self-disclosure behavior was greater. Conclusions - Based on the results from this study, academic and practical implications can be drawn. First, the study extends the scope of research about SNS through focusing on MIM to be classified by closed type SNS and identifies the relationship between emotion, behavioral intention and behaviors in MIM. Second, this study provides strategic guidelines to increase the efficiency for promotion activity. Limitations for the study also should be discussed.
