  • This paper presents a neural network based self-tuning fuzzy PID control scheme with variable learning rate for sensorless vector controlled induction motor drives. MRAS(Model Reference Adaptive System) is used for rotor speed estimation. When induction motor is continuously used long time. its electrical and mechanical parameters will change, which degrade the performance of PID controller considerably. This paper re-analyzes the fuzzy controller as conventional PID controller structure, introduces a single neuron with a back-propagation learning algorithm to tune the control parameters, and proposes a variable learning rate to improve the control performance. The proposed scheme is simple in structure and computational burden is small. The simulation using Matlab/Simulink and the experiment using DS1102 board show the robustness of the proposed controller to parameter variations.

  • In this paper, we propose a self-tuning PID controller for unknown systems with time-varying delay. Using pole placement equations, we derive the controller that can be extended to the multi-step time delay case. The time-varying delays are estimated by a prediction error delay method using multiple predictors. Since the order of the estimation vector is not increased, the persistant exciting condition of control input is alleviated. Since the least square method gives biased parameter estimates for colored noise cases, the recursive instrumental variable method is used to estimate system parameters. The computational burden of the proposed method is less than the conventional adaptive methods. Computer simulations are performed to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed method.

  • The PID controller is widely used due to its fast response and robustness. But its performance is not so good compared with modem controllers such as adaptive, robust, fuzzy, neural controller. Therefore, it is natural to replace PID controller by modem controllers. But, the problem is that modem controller can not be easily applied to the real time process. Hence, this paper proposes such a structure that PID controller and Self-Learning Fuzzy Controller(SLFC) are in parallel with each other. The parameter of SLFC will be updated by gradient descent method using neuro - identifier. The usefulness of this hybrid controller will be proved by simulation results.

  • The mutation operation is the main operation in the evolutionary programming which has been widely used for the optimization of real valued function. In general, the mutation operation utilizes both a probability distribution and its parameter to change values of variables, and the parameter itself is subject to its own mutation operation which requires other parameters. However, since the optimal values of the parameters entirely depend on a given problem, it is rather hard to find an optimal combination of values of parameters when there are many parameters in a problem. To solve this shortcoming at least partly, if not entirely, in this paper, we propose a new mutation operation in which the parameter for the variable mutation is theoretically estimated from the self-adaptive perspective. Since the proposed algorithm estimates the scale parameter of the Cauchy probability distribution for the mutation operation, it has an advantage in that it does not require another mutation operation for the scale parameter. The proposed algorithm was tested against the benchmarking problems. It turned out that, although the relative superiority of the proposed algorithm from the optimal value perspective depended on benchmarking problems, the proposed algorithm outperformed for all benchmarking problems from the perspective of the computational time.

  • This paper presents a novel smart MEMS accelerometer which employs a hybrid control algorithm and an estimator. This scheme is realized by adding a sliding-mode controller to a conventional PID closed loop system to achieve higher stability and higher dynamic range and to prevent pull-in phenomena by preventing finger displacement from passing a maximum preset value as well as adding an adaptive nonlinear observer to a conventional PID closed loop system. This estimator is used for online estimation of the parameter variations for MEMS accelerometers and gives the capability of self testing to the system. The analysis of convergence and resolution show that while the proposed control scheme satisfies these criteria it also keeps resolution performance better than what is normally obtained in conventional PID controllers. The performance of the proposed hybrid controller investigated here is validated by computer simulation.

  • In this paper, we present a reliability-based iterative proportionality-logic decoding algorithm for two classes of structured low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes. The main contributions of this paper include: 1) Syndrome messages instead of extrinsic messages are processed and exchanged between variable nodes and check nodes, which can reduce the decoding complexity; 2) a more flexible decision mechanism is developed in which the decision threshold can be self-adjusted during the iterative process. Such decision mechanism is particularly effective for decoding the majority-logic decodable codes; 3) only part of the variable nodes satisfying the pre-designed criterion are involved for the presented algorithm, which is in the proportionality-logic sense and can further reduce the computational complexity. Simulation results show that, when combined with factor correction techniques and appropriate proportionality parameter, the presented algorithm performs well and can achieve fast decoding convergence rate while maintaining relative low decoding complexity, especially for small quantized levels (3-4 bits). The presented algorithm provides a candidate for those application scenarios where the memory load and the energy consumption are extremely constrained.

  • This paper presents an adaptive fuzzy controller using an neural network and adaptation algorithm. Reference-model following neuro-fuzzy controller(RMFNFC) is invesgated in order to overcome the difficulty of rule selecting and defects of the membership function in the general fuzzy logic controller(FLC). RMFNFC is developed to tune various parameter of the fuzzy controller which is used for the discrete nonlinear system control. RMFNFC is trained with the identification information and control closed loop error. A closed loop error is used for design criteria of a fuzzy controller which characterizes and quantize the control performance required in the overall control system. A control system is trained up the controller with the variation of the system obtained from the identifier and closed loop error. Numerical examples are presented to control of the discrete nonlinear system. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed controller.

  • The field oriented control of induction motors is widely used in high performance applications. However, detuning caused by parameter disturbance still limits the performance of these drives. In order to accomplish variable speed operation, conventional PI-like controllers are commonly used. These controllers provide limited good Performance over a wide range of operation, even under ideal field oriented conditions. This paper is proposed model reference adaptive fuzzy control(MFC) and artificial neural network(ANN) based on the vector controlled induction motor drive system. Also, this paper is proposed control of speed and current using fuzzy adaption mechanism(FAM), MFC and estimation of speed using ANN. The proposed control algorithm is applied to induction motor drive system using FAM, MFC and ANN controller. Also, this paper is proposed the analysis results to verify the effectiveness of this controller.

  • The development of future aircraft that involves the expanded flight envelop will place increased performance requirements on the design of the flight control system. Maneuvering areas are expanding into flight envelopes characterized by significantly larger levels of modeling uncertainty than encountered in present flight control designs. Conventional flight control techniques that ignore the effects of large parameter variations, modeling uncertainties and nonlinearities, will likely produce designs with poor performance and robustness. Recent advances in modern control theories called advanced control theories, most notably the H$\_$.inf./ synthesis technique, adaptive control and neural network application, offer the promise of a design technique that can produce both high performance and robust controllers for next generation aircraft. This special lecture will survey the recent development in advanced flight control and review the possible application of advanced control theories.

  • Edge detection is an important process in low level image processing. But many proposed methods for edge detection are not very robust to the image noise and are not flexible for different images. To solve the both problems, an algorithm is proposed which eliminate the noise by mean shift algorithm in advance, and then adaptively determine the double thresholds based on gradient histogram and minimum interclass variance, With this algorithm, it can fade out almost all the sensitive noise and calculate the both thresholds for different images without necessity to setup any parameter artificially, and choose edge pixels by fuzzy algorithm.
