The purpose of this study was confirmed the relations among the help-seeking behavior, self-disclosure and self-concealment of 343 female college students'. As a result of data analysis, positive help seeking attitude was higher when the level of self-concealment was lower and self-disclosure, but regarding help-seeking intention, consultation intention was shown to be higher in the case of lower self-disclosure and higher self-concealment. Therefore, female college students need to visit college consultation centers more often while attending college and it needs to provide those students with mediation so that they can use mental health consultation services easily.

This program was carried out 3 hrs per week for 4 weeks by 3 small groups among 10 patients. Research design was a quasi-experimental study of nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The subject of this study were 10 of experimental group and 10 of control group. Before and after 4 weeks program, quality of life, self-efficacy, depression, pain, ADL were measured. As a result, it was confirmed the self-help education was effective to increase quality of life, but self-efficacy, depression, pain, ADL were not improved. • This study was conducted to identify the effects of the comprehensive nursing aided self-help program for hypertensives. The program educates hypertensives in community areas about blood pressure, self-care, health promoting behaviors, and life satisfaction. For this purpose a one group time series design was used. Sixteen subjects were evaluated from S Community Health center of B city. Self-help programs developed by the author were given to the subjects. The program consisted of group education on hypertension and self-care including blood pressure self-monitoring, recording of self-care activities, and encouraging and reinforcing self-help. The whole program was carried out from October to December in 2002. Data was analyzed by repeated measure ANOVA, and post-hoc Turkey. The results were as follows: There were significant relationships between changes in systolic pressure(F=10.638. P=.000), diastolic pressure(F=6.783. p=.013), self-care(F=13.506. p=.000), and health promoting behavior(F=9.067. p=.001) at the 6th week and the 9th week. There were no significant relationships between changes in life satisfaction at the 6th week or 9th week. From these results, it can be concluded that the self-help program is an effective nursing strategy to promote self-care of hypertensives in community areas.

  • It is reported that self-help education is effective to increase self-efficacy for the patients with chronic illness. Also self-efficacy Is proved to be an Important variable to effect the physical and psychological health state. Based upon this theoretical framework, KRHPS (Korean Rheumatology Health Professions Society) has administered for 2 years the self-help education increasing self-efficacy for the patients with arthritis. The group had a weekly session for 6 weeks. During the session, self-efficacy was increased by 1) actually performing a behavior, 2) listening to other patients talking about a successful experience or seeing other patients performing a behavior, 3) Instructor's or another patient's verbal persuasion, and 4) physiological cues experienced by themselves. Every group had 4-15 participants and 2 instructors. Data were collected by self-administered questionaire for 211 out of 361 participants. One hundred and fifty two subjects were analyzed because of missing values. As a result, it was confirmed that self-help education was effective to increase self-efficacy and self-efficacy was an important variable to Improve pain, depression, and ADL. Also it may fairly be said that nurses were right health-professionals to lead self-help groups for the patients with chronic illness. So it is important to facilitate many other self-help education for the patients with chronic illness.

  • Purpose: This study was done to assess the effects of a self-help intervention on clinical, lifestyle and psycho-social outcomes in patients with Type II diabetes. Methods: Eligible adults with Type II diabetes were randomly assigned to either the intervention group receiving the diabetes self-help or the control group receiving usual care. Of the 36 patients who completed the study, 15 were in the intervention group and 21 were in the control group. The self-help group consisted of six weekly sessions covering aspects of diabetes self-care and using continuing education, discussion, and structured social activities. Outcomes included changes in glycemic control, knowledge, self-management behaviors, diabetes-related self-efficacy, and health-related quality of life. Analysis of covariance was used to compare outcomes between the groups, adjusting for baseline measures. Results: After the six week intervention, significant improvements from the baseline were observed in the measurements of self-management behaviors, diabetes-related self-efficacy, and health-related quality of life for the intervention group. Conclusion: The findings provide preliminary evidence that a diabetes self-help group intervention can benefit diabetes patients in self-management behaviors, diabetes-related self-efficacy, and health-related quality of life. However, larger longitudinal studies are needed to determine the most efficacious self-management methods to sustain long-term glycemic control and psychological well-being.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a 16-week Self-help Tai Chi for Arthritis (SHTC) combined with health education for Korean American older women. Methods: This research was a designed quasiexperimental pre-posttest. Forty one women aged 55~79 were recruited 20 in SHTC group 21 in control group and, but twelve in SHTC group and thirteen in control group were left after 16 weeks. SHTC group was educated for 1 hour health education and 1hour TCA, once a week during 16 wks. Measurements for comparison were taken three times, at baseline, 8 wks and 16wks. The effect were evaluated with self-efficacy, shoulder flexibility, back flexibility, both hand grip strength and standing balance with closed eyes. Results: All variables except for left hand grip strength at baseline had significant homogeneity between both groups. After 16 weeks intervention, there was a significant interaction effect of time and group on right hand grip strength by repeated measure of ANOVA (F=3.398, p=.044). No significant interaction effects were found on self-efficacy, shoulder and back flexibility, left hand grip strength and standing balance with closed eyes. Conclusion: I can suggest this self-help Tai Chi program may be effective partially, but further research is needed to establish the best times and periods to intervene for a better effect.

  • Purpose: This study was done to determine if osteoarthritis (OA) patients living in rural Korea would have a benefit from a structured group program focused on self-help strategies. Methods: A hundred and twenty-six patients with OA were recruited from nine Primary Health Care Posts. The experimental group received a 6-week self-help education program while the control group received usual care. T-tests and c2-tests were used to determine the homogeneity between the experimental and control groups. Independent sample t-tests were performed to determine the effect of the treatment program. To guard against such likelihood, the level of significance of t-test was determined by Bonferroni correction within the study constructs. When significant group differences were found in study variables at baseline, analysis of covariances (ANCOVAs) were used for group comparisons of outcome variables. Results: The experimental group reported more significant improvement in fatigue, difficulty with physical activity, depression, quality of life, self-efficacy, and health behaviors than did the control group. The experimental group also showed improvements in range of motion and muscle strength as compared to the control group. Conclusion: A self-help group education program was an effective and powerful strategy to promote physical and psychosocial health in OA patients

A survey was conducted from May 12 to August 23, 2019, on 205 male and female fire officers in the Gangwon and Daegu Provinces. The collected data was analyzed using the SPSS 20.0 version, and frequency analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were carried out. The multiple regression analysis showed that the participants had a static correlation between self-help education, job competence, job satisfaction, and quality of life. Also, the self-help education had a significant correlation with job competence (personal area), job satisfaction (personal area, organizational area, professional area) and quality of life (personal area, professional area) (p<.01, p<.001). The job competence and job satisfaction of the paramedics had a significant impact on their quality of life. Given the findings of the study, specific systems need to be developed to improve the quality of life through the invigoration of self-help education for paramedics.
