Purpose: The purpose of study was to identify the relationship between body image and self-esteem in patients with chronic renal failure. Method The subjects of study were 97 patients with chronic renal failure who were outpatients at K medical center. B hospital, H hospital in Busan. Data were collected from Nov 15th to Dec. 17th, 1999. The instruments used for study were the Body Cathexis Scale and Rogenberg's Self-esteem Scale. Collected data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe test, and Pearson's correlation coefficients. Result: 1 The mean score for body image was $137.46{\pm}22.21$, the mean mark $2.92{\pm}0.47$, and the mean score of self-esteem was $30.80{\pm}8.76$, the mean mark $3.08{\pm}0.87$. 2. There was a significant difference in the score for body image according to educational level (F=5.189, P=.002) and type of residence (F=6.095. P=.001). 3. There was a significant difference in the score for self-esteem according to age (F=3.615, P=.009), educational level (F= 4.772, P=.004), marital status (F=3.498 P=.019) and presence of children (F=2.511, P=.014). 4. Body image in patients with chronic renal failure patients showed significant correlation with self-esteem (r=.519, P=.000). Conclusion: From this study, a relationship between body image and self-esteem in patients with chronic renal failure was identified. Therefore, nursing interventions are needed to promote body image and self esteem in patients with chronic renal patients.
Purpose: This study examines and compares the differences between self-esteem and health promotion behavior of health department and non-health department college students. Method: The research instruments were as follows : The first one is RSES developed by Rosenberg and translated into Korean by Jeon. The second one is HPLP developed by Walker et al, and including six subareas by Lee and modified to be suitable to Korean culture by Suh. Data were statistically analyzed with SPSS PC/12.0. Results : 1. Comparison of self-esteem had no significant difference(p=.190) and health promotion behaviors had significant differences(p=.000) between the two groups. 2. According to general characteristics and health-related characteristics, the differences of self-esteem in health department showed significant differences in grade(p=.020), sex(p=.000), age(p=.000), parents' economic conditions(p=.048), and smoking(p=.030) while non-health departments revealed significant differences in grade(p=.003), sex(p=.000), age(p=.000) and smoking(p=.001). 3. According to general characteristics and health-related characteristics, the differences of health promotion behaviors in health department showed significant differences in grade(p=.008), sex(p=.021), age(p=.000) and parents' economic conditions(p=.017) while non-health department revealed significant differences in sex(p=.000) and age(p=.000). 4. There were positive correlations between self-esteem, health promotion behaviors and subareas in health department (r=.422) and non-health department (r=.383). Conclusion: There were significant positive correlations between self-esteem and health promotion behaviors in health and non-health department college students. Therefore, health related programs should be developed to enhance self-esteem and health management by college students can influence themselves on self-esteem and health promotion behaviors.

Objective : The purposes of this study were two-fold; First it investigated self-esteem, stress and coping behaviors of mothers with handicapped children as a function of their and their children's characteristics; Second it examined the relationship among these variables. Method : The subjects were 294 mothers of handicapped children who were receiving treatment in one of the sixteen special therapy institutions in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, and Gangwon-do. Rosenberg's(1965) Self-Esteem Scale translated by Jeon Byung-Jea(1974) was used to measure the degree of mothers' self-esteem. Mothers' stress was assessed using the Support Burden Scale revised by Seong Jong-sook(2000) and their coping behavior was examined using Folkman's(1986) Coping Scale translated by Jeon Sung-hye. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA and Pearson's Correlation. Result : The major results of this study were as follows; First, working mothers of handicapped children showed higher self-esteem and problem solving coping behavior more than non-working mothers. Self-esteem was found higher with high-income mothers than with low-income ones. Stress was shown more intense to low- and middle-income mothers than to high-income ones. Problem solving coping behavior was preferred more by high-and middle-income mothers than by low-income ones. Second, mothers with the mild-handicap children showed higher self-esteem than those with the first-degree handicap ones. Mothers of children with first-, second- and third-degree handicap perceived more stress than those with mild handicap. Coping behavior was significantly different depending on the severity of children's handicap, but no significant difference was found among the groups. Third, the higher the self-esteem of mothers was, the less they perceived stress and used more of problem solving coping behavior. When mothers perceived a great deal of stress, they used more of emotion-oriented coping behaviors.
Recent domestic university has emerged need to convergence education. Health related department College students must deal with a lot of exams. The test anxiety can cause physiological and psychological problems. To solve this problem, it is necessary examine the relationship between test anxiety and self-esteem. This study Health related department College students conducted questionnaire survey of 301 students. In general the overall average is 2.98 according to the characteristics of self-esteem and gender, boys, if older, the older the more self-esteem was higher. Test anxiety of the general characteristics showed little higher this year. Test anxiety is higher self-esteem was low. The effect o the general characteristics and test anxiety self-esteem, in the case of boys, seniors, if I choose this self-esteem was higher, the higher the anxiety test were analyzed by low self-esteem. Therefore, need to a systematic curriculum approach and academic environment.

The purpose of this study to derstand the relationship between family support and self-esteem among middle-aged Korean women immigrants in Australia with a focus on the effects of depression, which seems to likely mediate these two variables. For the purpose of this study, 147 middle-aged Korean women who live and work in Sydney, Australia, were studied. A statistical method was carried out using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and reliability analysis by using SPSS ver.18.0. To verify the hypothesis of the research model that was suggested in this study, with the structural equation, AMOS ver.7.0 program was used. The analytical results are as follows. Firstly, family support had an influence on depression and self-esteem and depression had an effect on self-esteem. Secondly, family support had an influence on self-esteem by having depression as a mediation. This outcome not only offers information on self-esteem, which is the psychological welfare of Korean middle-aged women who live in Australia, but also enhances the self-esteem of all middle-aged Koreanwomen who abroad, not just in Australia. Therefore, the study provide basic data support a program related to the welfare of immigrant women who live overseas along with policies for those immigrant women to have successful lives as immigrants. In addition to this, an exploratory research on relevant variables that influence self-esteem will have significant implications even to policies on multi-cultural families that have immigrate into South Korea.
This study is designed to provide some basic materials for finding better ways to promote student-parent communication in order to elevate the sense of self-esteem among middle school students and to talk about the importance of communication between students and parents through looking at the current student-parent communication reality resulting from socio-demographic changes among male and female middle school students and analyzing some influences student-parent communication has on students' self-esteem. To attain the aforementioned purpose, total 650 2nd grade and 3rd grade middle school students were asked to fill out the questionnaire. The schools that they are attending are 2 schools in Gwangju City and 2 schools in a township in Jeonnam. 617 students responded to the survey. In order to see the general characteristics and the distribution of major variables of the respondents, the data were used to produce frequency. percentile, standard deviation and correlation quotient. and t-test. one-way Anova, Duncan's multiple range test and multiple regression analysis techniques were put to use. The results from this study are as follows: student groups that have good relations with other students seemed to be more open and active in their communication with their mother and father. Female students and students in their 2nd grade had more open talking relations with their mothers than male students and students in their 3rd grade. Students had more open talking relations with their father when father's occupation is office worker. In the difference of self-esteem that results from variables in communication between students and parents, a significant variance was presented in the level of the self-esteem of middle school students. When they had open communication with both parents, they had a high sense of self-esteem. and when their communication style was problematic, they had a low sense of self-esteem. When they had better relations with other students, when they had more open communication styles with their mother, when they had better school records, when they felt more satisfaction with communication With their father, they showed a higher level of self-esteem.

Purpose: This study was performed to identify the relationship between self-esteem and satisfaction in major of nursing students. Methods: Data were collected from the 10th to the 14th of April in 2006, from 281 nursing students in Jeollabuk-Do area. The collected data were analysed by using the SPSS WIN 11.0. Results: The results of this study were as followings: 1) The mean score for self-esteem was $2.89({\pm}.42)$, self-esteem was significantly different according to the general characteristics of grade(F=4.718, p=.010), satisfaction of pocket money(F=11.241, p=.000), satisfaction of present life(F=9.875, p=. 000) and hope for the employment field(F=2.583, p=.026). 2) The mean score for satisfaction in major was $3.79({\pm}.49)$, satisfaction in major was significantly different according to the general characteristics of satisfaction of pocket money(F=5.280, p=.006), motivation of entrance(F=7.384, p=.000), satisfaction of present life(F=27.000, p=.000), hope for the employment field(F=3.019, p=.011) and one of family (t=2.416, p=.017). 3) There was a significant correlation between self-esteem and satisfaction in major(r=.353, p=.000). 4) The most important variables affected satisfaction in major could explain a total 27.9%, were accounted for 22.7% in the satisfaction of present life and 5.2% in the self-esteem by the stepwise multiple regression analysis. Conclusion: As a result, self-esteem was correlated with satisfaction in major in nursing students. Therefore we need to develop various self-esteem program for nursing students.
Purpose: In order to evaluate effects of horticulture program on self-esteem of hospice patients, this study was conducted. Methods: Study population consists of 31 patients who had been registered in hospice care of "G" church and hospice unit of "G" hospital in G-city from Oct. 3rd 2007 to Dec. 3rd. As estimation method of self-esteem, self-esteem scale of Rosenberg(1965) was used. Results: The data were analyzed by frequency, paired t-test of SPSS. Self-esteem score before horticulture program was 5.31 and self-esteem score after horticulture program was 5.97. Conclusion: We concluded that horticulture programs had positive effect in self-esteem improvement, and it could be replaced with an intervention method of self-esteem improvement in hospice patients.
The purpose of this study was to identify the mediating effects of self-esteem in the relationship between marital conflict and school adjustment among adolescents. This study used data collected from 482 middle school students in Seoul. Multiple regression analysis was used to examine the mediating effects of self-esteem in the relationship between marital conflict and school adjustment. The results of this study revealed that there were sex differences in self-esteem of adolescents. For both male and female adolescents, marital conflict was found to have negative effects on self-esteem. School adjustment of adolescents was found to be positively influenced by self-esteem. Marital conflict had negative direct effects on school adjustment only for male adolescents. Results indicated that self-esteem mediated in the effects of marital conflict on school adjustment for male and female adolescents. Implications for understanding the associations among marital conflict, children's self-esteem and adjustment in school contexts were discussed.
Analyses were performed with Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale. The population was 1,391 Korean workers in total. Subjects who get scores of self-esteem lower than those before the accidents were 539 people(42.34%). On the other hand, subjects who get the same or higher scores of self-esteem than those before the accidents were 802 people(57.66%). The average score of the whole showed 30.09 point that is higher than 29.99 points that were analyzed from primary panel data. The odds ratio of self-esteem is analyzed to find that what is the most important factor for improving self-esteem of the workers group. The result of odds ratio analysis was 1.60 in the not-to-return-to-work group, significantly higher of the score of self-esteem than the return-to-work group. The statistically significant odds ratio of unemployed workers group from the group of workers who return to work prove the academically conventional social norms. This result shows that the workers condition, whether or not they can return to their work, affects the workers' self-esteem. Therefore, the workers' condition for returning to the work should be considered the most important service for Korean workers' compensation and welfare services.
