Selective Continuous Adsorption and Recovery for Gold-Cyanide Complex in Industrial Wastewater Using Dowex 21K XLT Resin (Dowex 21K XLT 수지를 이용한 산업폐수 내의 금-시안 착화합물의 선택적인 연속흡착 및 회수)

  • Continuous adsorption and recovery characteristics for gold and lead-cyanide complexes in industrial wastewater were investigated by the Dowex 21K XLT resin. The Dowex 21K XLT resin could continuously remove over 95% for gold-cyanide complex until 520 bed volumes at the 0.5 mL/min of influent flow rate, however, could not remove lead-cyanide complex at all. The 96% of gold-cyanide complex adsorbed onto Dowex 21K XLT resin could be recovered by mixed solvent with HCl and acetone (7:3 ratio) within 8 bed volumes. Also, the bed volume for gold-cyanide complex using secondly reused Dowex 21K XLT resin was maintained as the 490, therefore, continuous process using Dowex 21K XLT resin can be sufficiently applied to the industrial wastewater containing gold ions.

A Selective Error Control Scheme based on Timely Retransmission in Multimedia Communications (멀티미디어통신에서 적시 재전송에 기반한 선택적인 오류 제어 방법)

  • 기존의 오류 제어 방법들은 실시간 특성과 신축적인 신뢰성을 가지는 멀티미디어 통신 응용의 특징을 충분히 반영하지 못하고 있다. 본 연구는 기존의 재전송을 기반으로 하는 방법에 두 가지 기법을 추가하여 이 문제에 접근하였다. 첫째, 실시간 데이타의 마감 시간을 고려하여 미리 재전송을 실시하는 사전 재전송과 시간적으로 불가능하다고 판단될 때 복구를 포기하는 재전송 포기를 통한 적시 재전송 기법이다. 둘째, 요구되는 신뢰성에 근접하도록 오류가 많이 발생하였을 때만 재전송을 하는 선택적 오류 제어 기법이다. 본 연구는 두 기법을 적용한 오류 제어 프로토콜을 구현하고 네트워크 환경을 바꾸어 가며 성능을 검사하였다. 실험 결과, 제안된 오류 제어 방법은 전체적인 오류 제어 부하는 감소시키면서 오류 복구율을 높인다는 점을 확인하였다.Abstract The current error control schemes do not fit well to the characteristics of multimedia communications: real-time transmission and flexible reliability requirements. This research proposes a new error control scheme, which extends the retransmission-based error control with the following two mechanisms. First, error recovery is performed in two timely fashions: one is retransmission in advance where a retransmission is performed early enough for the deadline if an error is suspected, and the other is retransmission abort where a retransmission is given up if its recovery within the deadline seems to be impossible. Second, error control is selectively performed only when an actual error rate approaches to the threshold on a given reliability requirement. The proposed scheme has been implemented and experimented in various network environments. The performance results show that it has lower control overhead and higher error recovery than the existing schemes.

  • Cementation is one of economical and efficient recycling method precipitating the metal ion in solution by adding another active metal. In this study for optimizing cadmium recovery efficiency, it was performed as a function of the effect of pH, temperature, particle size, and input amount of zinc in 0.1 M $CdSO_4$ solution and Ni-Cd battery leaching solutions, respectively. The particle size of zinc and temperature were key factors for Cd cementation and it was confirmed that the input amount of 2.6 of Zn/Cd ratio using granular-type zinc was optimal condition for selective Cd recovery efficiency at $25^{\circ}C$.

Recovery of Ammonia Nitrogen using Gas-permeable Membranes (기체투과막을 이용한 암모니아성 질소 회수방안)

  • Ammonia nitrogen can be effectively recovered from livestock manure waste, etc. by using the gas permeable membrane technology. In this case, ammonia gas in the waste passes through the pores in one-side of membrane, impregnated in waste, and then reach the opposite side of the membrane. The permeated ammonia gas molecules are captured and recovered by acid (such as sulfuric acid) in the solution existing on the opposite side of the membrane. In order to improve ammonia nitrogen removals in the inlet part, high pH should be maintained in the feed waste including ammonia nitrogen to recover, which requires the cost of the chemical. To resolve this issue, previous studies tested various methods, for example, utilization of cheap calcium hydroxide or aeration together with inhibition of unwanted nitrification. The gas permeable membranes used for the recovery of ammonia nitrogen may be characterized, not only by proper heat and chemical resistance, but also by hydrophobicity, allowing selective ammonia gas permeation through the hydrophobic membrane pores. Future research should consider the relevant pilot or upscale processes using on-site wastes with various properties, and identify the optimal design/operation conditions as well as economic feasibility improvement plans.

  • A simple and sensitive high performance liquid chromatographic method to quantitate ursodeoxycholic acid in crude drug pharmaceuticals was investigated. Ursodeoxycholic acid react with 2-bromoacetyl-6-methoxynaphthalene (Br-AMN) in the presence of triethylamine to form highly fluorescent derivative. The derivatization procedure was performed at 7$0^{\circ}C$ and completed within 30 min. The optimal wavelength of the fluorescence detector are λ$_{ex}$=300 nm and λ$_{em}$ = 460 nm. The LOD of the ursodeoxycholic acid was 25 ng/mι based on the S/N =3, and the LOQ was 80 ng/mι based on S/N = 10. Crude drug pharmaceuticals pretreated by solid phase extraction (Sep-pak $C_{18}$ cartridge) which were shown very good separation and recovery values for the compound.d.

  • Poly(crown ether)s as a functional polymer materials have powerful and selective complexation properties with a large number of metal cations and have advantage of facility of their recovery and modification of their complexation properties in contrast to their monomeric analogues. Poly(crown ether)s having pendant macrocyclic groups can easily form 2:1-type crown ether ring-to-cation complexes with particular metal ions which are a little larger than the cavity of the crown ether ring.   • The prepartion of various metal oxide nanostructures via hydrothermal method, hydrolysis, thermal evaporation and electrospinning and their applications to chemoresistive sensors have been investigated. Hierarchical and hollow nanostructures prepared by hydrothermal method and hydrolysis showed the high response and fast responding kinetics on account of their high gas accessibility. Thermal evaporation and electrospinning provide the facile routes to prepare catalyst-loaded oxide nanowires and nanofibers, respectively. The loading of noble metal and metal oxide catalyst were effective to achieve rapid response/recovery and selective gas detection.

  • Analytical method of 4-nitrotoluene (4-NT) in water was developed by 9as chromatography/mass selective detector/selected ion monitoring (GC/MSD/SIM). 4-NT was extracted with diethyl ether. Organic layer was washed with 5 % sodium chloride solution. The influence of solvent and evaporation condition on extraction of 4-NT were examined. The retention time of 4-NT peak was 7.72 min. Coefficient of variation (CV) of 4-NT (ng) within day and day-to-day was ranged from 7.0 to 14.6% and from 7.7 to 20.8%, respectively. Recovery of 4-NT was ranged from 84 to 109%, and detection limit of 4-H was lese than 1 ng/㎖.

Delay Performance Analysis of the NAK-based SR-ARQ Protocol with the Reverse Acknowledgment (RA) Scheme

  • The reverse acknowledgment (RA) scheme supports a fast loss recovery for negative acknowledgment (NAK)-based selective repeat automatic repeat request (SR-ARQ) by detecting a retransmission failure quickly before a retransmission timer expires. In this paper, we evaluate the performance of a NAK-based SR-ARQ protocol with the RA scheme and compare it with the conventional NAK-based SR-ARQ protocol. Particularly, we propose a simple analysis model for the transport delay of the NAK-based SR-ARQ protocol considering the traffic condition, the retransmission persistence, the timer-based retransmissions and the RA scheme's behavior. Both NAK-based SR-ARQ protocols with and without the RA scheme are implemented by using the OPNET simulator. We verified the analysis model's accuracy through the simulation results. Also, we evaluate the performance of the NAK-based SR-ARQ protocol with the RA scheme based on analysis and simulation results.

Synthesis and Shuttling Behavior of Rotaxanes Consisting of Crown Ether Wheel and Disulfide Dumbbell with Two Ammonium Centers

  • Several [2]- and [3]rotaxanes bearing some functional groups on their wheel components and spacers with different lengths between two ammonium centers on their dumbbell components were prepared in good yields from dibenzo-24-crown-8-ether derivatives and dumbbell-shaped bis(sec-ammonium salt)s having a centrally located disulfide linkage, by utilizing the reversible thiol-disulfide interchange reaction. The shuttling behaviors of the [2]rotaxanes were investigated by $^1H$ NMR by use of the spin polarization transfer-selective inversion recovery technique. It was found that the change in spacer length in the axle resulted in a drastic change in shuttling rate of the [2]rotaxanes, although the introduction of the functional groups to the wheels did not affect the shuttling behavior at all.
