This paper describes a Band-Selective Charge-Pump PLL(CPPLL) for clock recovery and clock generator. The proposed PLL satisfies fast acquisition time and low jitter characteristics simultaneously by reducing initial frequency error. The acquisition time of the designed Band-Selective CPPLL can be decreased down to 55% of a conventional CPPLL.

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems utilizing direct conversion receiver suffer from frequency selective (FS) and frequency independent (FI) phase and gain imbalances caused by imperfect local oscillator and low pass filter. In this paper, we analyze the impacts of the transmit/receive IQ imbalances on the system and propose the estimation and compensation schemes for those imbalances. The preamble signals coded by Alamouti scheme in the frequency domain could be used in the estimation of relatively large IQ imbalances with FS and FI characteristics and the estimation results are used for the compensation of distortions caused by the FI and FS IQ imbalances. The optimal maximum likelihood (ML) receiver or suboptimal ordered successive interference cancallation (OSIC) receiver utilizing the estimation results show symbol error rate (SER) performance improvement compared to zero-forcing (ZF) technique due to diversity gain inherent in the frequency domain IQ imbalances combined with the frequency selective channels.

Fiber-reinforced composites transmitting microwaves of certain frequencies or bands were proposed. These frequency selective fabric composites(FSFCs) are fabricated by weaving carbon fibers and dielectric fibers that build periodic patterns. Design parameters affecting the electromagnetic characteristics of FSFCs were widely discussed, Then the electromagnetic characteristics of a fabricated plain-weave FSEC were investigated with regard to the electrical conductivities of carbon roving, the fiber undulation, and the aperture-to-cell ratio, for the electrical conductivities, its dependence on frequency as well as on the fiber volume fraction of carbon roving was taken into account. Constituent material properties and the fiber undulation had little effect on the EM properties of the fabricated FSFC, while the aperture-to-cell ratio made a profound effect on them.

In this paper, a double-layered frequency selective surface(FSS) superstrate was built and tested. The unit cell of the proposed FSS consists of a ring slot and a dipole-shaped structure and shows a complementary frequency response. Each unit cell is printed on two sides of a substrate. By using these double-layered structures, the first resonant frequency of the pass-band can be lowered. As a result, the size of the unit cell is minimized and the spacing between the other cells is reduced. The proposed FSS-dipole composite antenna is designed for the gain enhancement of wide-band code division multiple access(WCDMA) frequency bands(1.92~2.17 GHz) with a low quality factor(Q=0.17). To verify the gain enhancement performance of the FSS, an FSS-dipole composite antenna was created. Although the FSS layer enhances the gain of the primary radiation source of the dipole antenna, the FSS-dipole complex antenna cannot show a uniform gain over the entire desired frequency band. The experimental results show a gain enhancement of 3 dBi with an FSS superstrate in the WCDMA frequency band.

In this paper, a miniaturized frequency selective surface(FSS) for bandstop operation that provides stability for an angle of incidence and polarization is presented. The proposed miniaturized FSS has the unit cell of hexagonal structure with triangular loops and size of the unit cell is $0.081{\lambda}{\times}0.081{\lambda}$ at 2.5 GHz operating frequency, which is very small compared to operating wavelength. In addition, unlike the conventional design, which requires complicated design parameters, the proposed FSS is easily expanded to the desired operating frequency for 2~8 GHz, by controlling the specific design parameters. To validate the simulation results, the FSS structures having different operating frequencies, 2.5 GHz, 5 GHz and 8.2 GHz were designed, fabricated and measured. The comparisons between the simulation and the measured results show good agreement. The proposed miniaturized FSS can provide better frequency stability for different incidence angles and polarizations.

This paper describes the fabrication techniques and analysis of hybrid composite plates with an active frequency selective surface (FSS). For fabricating hybrid composite plate with active FSS, an active FSS with a resonance frequency located in the C band can obtained using varactor diodes. The hybrid composite plate was first designed and simulated to determine its electromagnetic properties using the commercial software HFSS. After simulation, active FSSs and hybrid composite plates were fabricated by mounting with varactor diodes. After fabrication, free space measurement was used to determine the electromagnetic properties of active FSS and the hybrid composite plates. The simulation and experimental results were in good agreement.

In is well-known that system performance in the high speed digital radio communication system is usually deteriorted due to the frequency selective fading distortion. In this paper, bit error rate(BER) performance by the reception phase error in cellular mobile communication systems is derived and analyzed. The system is modeled as a frequency selective fast Rayleigh fading channel corrupted by additive white gaussian noise(AWGN) and co-channel interference(CCI). Our numerical results show that for the 24KBaud(48Kb/s) $\pi$/4-DQPSK operated at carrier frequency 800 MHz and C/I<20 dB, the BER will be dominated by CCI if the vehicular speed is below 100 Km/h. The results show that performance, when reception phase error is below $\pi$/12, is deterioreted less than 3 dB, and that performance, when reception phase error is above $\pi$/12, is degraded over 3 dB.
Terahertz dual-band frequency selective surface filters made by perforating two different rectangular holes in molybdenum have been designed, fabricated and measured. Physical mechanisms of the dual-band resonant responses are clarified by three differently configured filters and the electric field distribution diagrams. The design process is straightforward and simple according to the physical concept and some formulas. Due to the weak coupling between the two neighboring rectangle holes with different sizes in the unit cell, good dual-band frequency selectivity performance can be easily achieved both in the lower and higher bands by tuning dimensions of the two rectangular holes. Three samples are fabricated, and their dual-band characteristics have been demonstrated by a THz time-domain spectroscopy system. Different from most commonly used metal-dielectric structure or metal-dielectric-metal sandwiched filters, the designed dual-band filters have advantages of easy fabrication and low cost, the encouraging results afforded by these filters could find their applications in dual-band sensors, THz communication systems and other emerging THz technologies.

The performance of a multi-carrier CDMA system is analyzed considering frequency selective multipath fading and Near/Far effects. The number of multicarrier, multiuser, and arms of RAKE receiver, and the decay ratio of frequency selective multipath fading are used as a parameter for the performance analysis. More over, the distribution and the strength of multiuser interference are also considered. To evaluated the Near/Far effects in a multi-carrier CDMA system, three distribution models are assumed. In the first model. interference to carrier Ratio, I/C, ranges form -4 dB to 4dB, and at each 2 dB interval 20 % of multiuser is assumed to be uniformly distributed. In the second one, I/C ranges from -2 dB to 2 dB, and 33.3% of multiuser is assumed to be equally dispersed at each 2dB interval. The third model is 0 dB of I/C, that is, with perfect power control, multiuser are assumed to be evenly located. In this paper, multi-carrier CDMA system adoption RAKE receiver is proposed to mitigate the frequency selective multipath fading. Form the results, the third model(i.e. perfect power control)shows the best performance, and the narrower range of I/C causes the less effects to the desired signal, which reads to the better performance.

In this paper, we present a design of AEM radome with frequency selective surface using unit-cell EM simulation method and verified the performance of AEM radome by the radiation pattern measurements of $16{\times}16$ array-antenna. Measured results under near-field condition showed a good agreement with the simulation and far-field measured ones. And there were no radiation pattern variation between antenna only and antenna with AEM radome. From these results, we verified that AEM radome with frequency selective surface can be a solution to reduce the RCS of conventional mast and radar.
