  • Selection of efficient supplier is a very important process as risk or uncertainty of a supply chain and its environment are increasing. Previous deterministic DEA and probabilistic DEAs are very limited to handle various types of risk and uncertainty. In this paper, I propose an improved probabilistic DEA which consists of two steps; Monte Carlo simulation and statistical decision making. The simulation results show that the proposed method is proper to distinguish supplier's performance and provide statistical decision background.

  • Selecting a railroad line requires the comparative evaluation of various elements. As a systematic approach to this selection it will be necessary to apply the VE study and the LCC analysis. This study proposes a methodology for selecting the optimum line of the ralroad using VE-LCC analysis. The VE study is performed by following four steps : Information analysis, Function analysis, Alternative evaluation, and Optimum plan selection. The economics evaluation in VE study is using LCC analysis and Sensitivity analysis. Cost items in LCC analysis are classified into bridge, tunnel, rail, and earthwork. We could select the optimum alte-rnatives considering not only cost elements hut also various evaluation element in VE-LCC analysis. • This paper presents the choice of appropriate sets of input variables for large-scale linear multivariable systems. It is shown that the selection of a good set of input variables for control may become important when both strong and weak input variables are available. The transmission of information from the inputs to the outputs is investigated and appropriate scaling procedures to derive a scaled input matrix are proposed. Singular value decomposition methods facilitate the quantification of the systems excitation stemming from the various input variables, and thus the selection of an appropriately strong and orthogonal set of input variables. The need for and the implementation and benefits of reducing the number of input variables are illustrated by a large-scale steam generator model of a real process.

  • Software reliability growth models are used in testing stages of software development to model the error content and time intervals betwewn software failures. In this paper, using priors for the number of fault with the negative binomial distribution nd the error rate with gamma distribution, Bayesian inference and model selection method for Jelinski-Moranda and Goel-Okumoto and Schick-Wolverton models in software reliability. For model selection, we explored the sum of the relative error, Braun statistic and median variation. In Bayesian computation process, we could avoid the multiple integration by the use of Gibbs sampling, which is a kind of Markov Chain Monte Carolo method to compute the posterior distribution. Using simulated data, Bayesian inference and model selection is studied.

  • Medical device performance management is an activity that allows a device to be safely used and maintained even after it is put on the market. The purpose of this study is to provide procedures and criteria for selection of medical device items that should manage the safety and performance among medical devices in hospital. Investigate the performance management status of medical devices in hospitals and identify the performance management status by domestic and advanced regulatory agencies. Provides selection procedures and test methods for medical devices subject to performance management in hospitals based on medical device risk management and reliability. In addition, a case study on drug infusion pumps was conducted.

  • This paper presents a link adaptation scheme for adaptive full duplex (AFD) systems. The signal modulation levels and communication link patterns are adaptively selected according to the changing channel conditions. The link pattern selection process consists of two successive steps such as a transmit-receive antenna pair selection based on maximum sum rate or minimum maximum symbol error rate, and an adaptive modulation based on maximum minimum norm. In AFD systems, the antennas of both nodes are jointly determined with modulation levels depending on the channel conditions. An adaptive algorithm with relatively low complexity is also proposed to select the link parameters. Simulation results show that the proposed AFD system offers significant bit error rate (BER) performance improvement compared with conventional full duplex systems with perfect or imperfect self-interference cancellation under the same fixed sum rate.

  • The strengths of two-photon transitions from the ground state to excited vibronic states in benzene are calculated by using the CNDO/2-U wave functions. The role of vibronic coupling in two-photon absorption process is discussed. The $A_{1{\bar{g}}}-A_{2g}^+$ two-photon transitions, which are forbidden by the identity-forbidden selection rule in single frequency two-photon absorption, are too weak to be experimentally observed even when two photons of different energies are used. It is because the transitions are forbidden also by the pseudo-parity selection rule which are applicable for alternant hydrocarbons such as benzene. It is also shown that the vibronic coupling is not very effective in altering the pseudo-parity property of the electronic state. The strength of the vibronically induced two-photon absorption is strongly affected by the presence of an electronic state from which two-photon absorption can borrow the intensity. It is pointed out that the pseudo-parity selection rule may be violated in such cases.

  • This paper describes a novel zero-stress member selecting method for sizing optimization of truss structures. When a sizing optimization method with static constraints is implemented, the member stresses are affected sensitively with changing the variables. However, because some truss members are unaffected by specific loading cases, zero-stress states are experienced by the elements. The zero-stress members could affect the computational cost and time of sizing optimization processes. Feature selection approaches can be then used to eliminate the zero-stress member from the whole variables prior to the process of optimization. Several numerical truss examples are tested using the proposed methods.

  • An efficient demolition process requires the optimum method selection considering stability, economic feasibility, environment, and workability. In reality the construction cost and period are priority concerns, and safe construction methods are neglected. In addition, the choosing demolition method is often determined subjectively by experienced field engineers. This research paper presents a multi-criteria decision-making method using Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) to select the optimum demolition method. Three experienced demolition engineers' opinions were used to develop the TOPSIS model. The case study showed that the preferences of ten attribute measurements for demolition method selection. Authors suggested the most preferable demolition method for the case study project.
